I acquired mine in a more somber way. My son died in a hit and run on his 2007 FZ1 in September of last year. It has sat at the tow yard since, till this weekend. I am finding a calling to my healing process with him (his spirit), and finally brought the bike home this weekend. Looking to rebuild it. This was his most prized possession, and the last thing he was sitting on before leaving this earth. There is no way I am letting this thing go. It will be with me for the rest of mine, so when MY time comes, and I meet him up there, we can share stories of rides on the same bike. Miss you, son!
😢
My deepest condolences.
How is the project going?
Love that most people want nothing to do with the memory of something like that. But the fact that you want to cherish the bike as he did is beautiful💙
You are a strong brave man to deal with his bike after loosing him that way.
Rest in peace I hope you find peace God bless 🙏🏿
its 2020 and the fz1 is still perfect
I'm about to get one, hopefully, myself
Just got one 2 days ago and its great!
@@jimmeyer9116 I'm considering getting one.
Just bought a 2007 fz1 naked and it is awesome. Would recommend
You love it don't you shaun.🏍
Finally a rider position profile on a motorcycle review! This is rarely done , but should be standard for all motorcycle reviews. Please continue with this in future reviews as it is very helpful IMHO. Thank you.
FZ1 2006 here. Best bike I ever owned. Still riding it at 56. 😉
2008 here.
Im picking up an 06 as well.
Mine is a 06 too. What tires do you like to run? Mine came with Conti’s on it. They were alright, but will be getting something better. I need something to hook up better then those Conti-Motion cheap tires... lol
Owned my 2007 FZ1 since new. Has about 20,400 miles on it.
@@ttbjammn Did you fix that stator issue ?
All the Power with No Gimmicks.
Always been a Yamaha fan. Bought my Yamaha FZ1 in 2009. It has 27 thousand miles on it and I still love this bike. I'm 57 and still LOVE going fast. Mine has the FMF apex slip on muffler on it and it has the bottom fairing on it. I love the look of it and probably will never sale it. Just can't see myself in a Harley Davidson yet.
I just bought an FZ1 and I love it...
I’ve absolutely loved my time with the 2008 FZ1, they’re so good for the price now.
This is one of the best videos you've done IMHO. Incredibly in depth, great comparisons, back story, etc. I remember when the TL1000S was doing what the FZ1 did for the inline version of the same design concept.
I love the Peter Griffin knee pain
me too...
shhhhhh, ahhhhhhh, shhhhhhhhhhhhhh ahhhhhhhhhhhhh, shhhh ahhhhhhh, shhhhhhh ahhhhhhh
Bought myself a 2009 a few days after this video came out 😂
“Just cuse I HAVE it doesn’t mean I’m gonna spend it” that bike is all about that 95% of the time your cruising but don’t forget you HAVE an R1 engine under there lol
some manufacturers slap on some new stickers and call it the all new... anyways
Who does that? Most seem to keep the same gen severl years with only paint and graphics and THEN do a real update. The FZ begain with a steel wobbly frame then finally was updated to aluminum R1 type frame and has been the basis for significantly changed generations after the FZ1....FZ10 , MT10 latest MT-10....all kinda similar though I wish the MT10 had a fairing like the FZ1 did @@tharalalnun4364
Totally agree, mind blowing value!! I bought a brand new 2014 leftover, delivered to me in Florida for $7k!! I was an R1 guy, couldn't take the riding position any more unless your on a track.. Fz1 very comfortable for 200+ miles, great power, bullet proof, crazy easy to change oil and work on, cheap to run. Bang for the buck very hard to beat. Yes, the mirrors need to be bent out level with road, mirrors are good and i like them on the fairing, not on the bars. I throw some light stiff luggage bags on and you have an instant tour bike. I did the tail kit with the led strobe brake light. Love the bike, owes me nothing.
How is your FZ1 in the corners/canyons? Thank you
I got a 2012 in 13 for 8 cash . Love it !
@@EEEBA1 mine is kiler
@@jeffreyyeater1780 Awesome, Thank You!
@@EEEBA1 Just got mine after having a '08 Ninja 500cc, the handling and turning on the FZ is better than the ninja.. Just have to be mindful of the throttle, mine came ECU flashed but it's still really tight.
I have the 2007 Yamaha FZ1, and it’s very comfortable for everything: commuting, group spirited riding, and comfort. I’ve owned 2005 Yamaha R6, and rode it to Illinois for a huge group ride. After two days, my lower back was killing me. I sold that, picked up this bike, and to ride to Minnesota and back to Wisconsin in one day. It was a 500 mile-one day trip. I would recommend this bike for others.
Just bought a 2008 FZ1 today. Can’t wait to ride it!
Your videos keep getting better and better dude, great review
I love the speedometer blur haha
Started out on a 2012 FZ-1 and I still love it so freakin much. Still scares me years later above 9k after over 10k miles.
Also yes, terrible mirrors compared to the factory ones that came on mine.
Had my 2008 for seven years and love it, best bike I've owned and comfortable, you can ride it hard or you can be lazy, great all round
I own FZ1 since last year, and is my first bike after been passed licence and I love it. I don't want anything else. Is comfortable to drive and always I have some spare power to take over anyone I want to.
I'm 65 I'm still on my 2011 FZ1 . I bought it after I totaled my goldwing. I love my bike hands down the best bike I've owned !
I'm in my late 50s and you are my hero! I saw a couple of these bikes on Craigslist with low miles in the low $3K range. I'm currently riding a Nighthawk 750 that also has an inline 4. Thinking of switching over to the FZ1! :)
My new hip doesn't allow me to high side kick stand side is the only way
im thrilled that you posted this..Ive been eyeing a rather inexpensive 2004 FZ1 w/ 23k mileage from a local dealer, this will probably help me pull the trigger on it
How much are they asking? I got my 03 with 1,600 miles for 3k
on the fence about this bike or another and this video has completely stolen my heart and given it to the FZ-1, to hear and see you talk about how much you love this bike has convinced me
Thanks for the video, it was very helpful and stay safe out there
I love the FZ1 i rode mine 50k km last year
I've got a 2002 and love it! Pretty dang fast, very comfortable, and affordable.
I bought my 03 with 15000 miles and when reved up it terrifies me.
I love it.
I have always been curious about these bikes! Thank you for shedding some light on this bike for me. I an 06 CBR1000RR and love the power and feel.
I have owned my 2008 ABS FZ1 for 3 years (30.000km) and it never had any issues. Did all the service myself in my small backyard. It can keep it with most 1000cc bikes till this day while offering such a comfortable ride, I'm still amazed.
I'm still riding my 2002 fz1,great bang for your buck bike.
Yeah I have one 2002 too. Its cool but fuel consumption of a 4 cyl car
@@Pizdzirynka1 40 to 44mpg for mine,it has been rejetted by previous owner.
02 fz1 42mpg ivans, slip on, airbox mod, still faster than most or all of the new naked bikes, just no electronics (abs, tcs) raced and owned 13 years
I liked the self adjusting mirror system. From cool to race mode. 😀
Been on mine for just over a year and still love it
Have 2008 Fz1 since new. Great motorcycle!
It’s like a combo of sport, sport touring , and naked!!! Thanks 🙏 I went to moto quote they are awesome and cheap!!!!!! Thanks 🙏
4 cyl version of an sv1000s. Depends on your sound preference. Love the almost sport touring bikes.
@@ryanwalker3509 The SV is just not as comfy. I owned one for s couple of years and it's not really suitable for touring unless you put on some bar risers or whatnot. A great bike and great fun still.
Always get on a bike from the kickstand (lower) side
Stay safe !
I have the 2013 model (had two 600s beforehand) and it’s a brilliant all rounder. Great review.
I've been riding since 1977 and I just got to FZ1 2011 three months ago with 30,000 miles one of my favorite bikes I've ever owned so much fun so minor intake work done and exhaust about 150 out of the rear tire. Lots of power lots of torque
inline 4 engines powerful and smooth its a beauty.i tried last summer a YAMAHA MT-10 and boy what a bike i know its not the same motor its a crossplane engine its a beast of a bike.
About 8 yrs ago I saw Scott Russell at 50 yrs old, on a stock FZ1 do the same lap times as Motoamerica Superbikes. FZ1's are awesome!
Just bought a 2006 fz1 per your recommendation and I couldn't be happier. I always wanted a supersport but I have back problems so the fz1 was perfect for me.
I’ve had two of them they’re a smile a mile I loved them
The up right of my fz1 is amazing my back loves me for it and if I need to get low I can
I have one of these in this year and cant beat it for the price only 2800 and yes those mirrors are meant to be down lol
The gen 1 is still the best hands down
I picked up an 05 for 1500
C Baxter how many miles?
I miss mine.

It would look killer with a straight Renthal handlebar and bar-end-mirrors 😏
thanks for the quote from Luke brother,, dig it... and my older fazer.... Glory to

Great video man
Obliterated knee....”I hate that bike” lols love it man
Im going to have to buck your saying there; " Its not where your going that matters if you enjoy what your riding there " and you were right not to many people are familiar with the FZ1 myself included. I'm old school and ride a 2000 ZRX 1100 and once your hooked on the purr of a inline 4 motor its hard to enjoy the rattle of other motors.
I picked up a 2005 fz1 for $800. It only needed a water/oil pump rebuild. Runs awesome. Soo comfortable and crazy fast. I plan on keeping it forever!
Picked up one of these recently and it is awesome!
Bought a red 06' FZ1 in showroom condition this summer, and I love it. Flashed ECU, full Yoshi exhaust, +2 rear sprocket, and quick-shifter make it a blast to ride. My only issue is that at speeds over 60, I feel like the bike wants to sit up and go straight. I'm more aware of leaning and counter-steering at higher speeds than I've been on previous bikes. Riding around town, it handles beautifully.
do you still own it? Is it snatchy and reliable?
@@jerryx2000 i dont know about him but i currently own one and it has been very reliable, even in the cold. it also has never had a check engine light, even after 22000 miles. power-wise i would say that
low end power = really good
medium range = average
high end = good
usually if i am going highway speeds and want to speed up i will drop a gear or two to reach the high end power because the middle end is very average in my opinion. still the fastes bike i have ever had and its not even tuned right now.
@@easedcookie8434 I went for the 2010 Speed triple. It has more low end grunt. High end gets you in jail where I live
Also if you want to you can put bar risers and sit more upright also the insurance companies don’t know they are fast sport bikes when it comes to charge high insurance they are cheaper to insure then most other sport aggressive riding positions bikes!!! Awesome content!
Sold! Bought my first liter bike 3 days ago because of this video. 2006 FZ1 with 18,000 miles, 2 brand new Pirelli tires plus a spare front and K&N for $3100. Thinking about going full naked with it down the road. Going to take some long trips and see how I like the ferring. Super comfortable and dam fast. Absolutely love it. Thanks for the videos and I love the scripture! You have my dream job!!
I sold bikes for 35 years and retired from the business. I had the chance to ride almost every thing there was in those years. The original FZ1 was in the top 10 in my book
As it should be, Gen1 commands respect
That says a lot for me! I was inches away from getting back on a bike when I sat on one of these! Only thing that really stopped me was my young kids & wife! That’s a beautiful bike! Even to this day! My friend has a Hayabusa 1300 & surely this would keep up or hang around!
Love the comfort of the FZ1!
New Sub! Luv your channel Shawn plus your scripture quotes which help me focus my mind on Higher things!
Love that you kept the outtake of you hitting your leg! I was considering this for my first bike but decided on the FZ07
Southpaw Scientific dude this bike is a terrible first bike. You did right with the 07. It’s a nice piece of kit.
I got the FZ1 as a first bike. Definitely too much power for a beginner.. But after 3 years, I’ve learned that power is to be used, not abused.

I had the fz6 , the baby fz1 with a short loud pipe about 3 years back around Lancaster. Loved it!
I've had my 07 fz1 for 6 years awesome bike plenty of power especially with full exhaust,pc5 and aftermarket high flow air filter. I highly recommend this bike to anyone who enjoys riding a fast bike and wants a comfortable ride. My bike has 33000 miles and you can't tell it still pulls the front tire with ease under acceleration. Handles good plenty of power and comfortable whats not to like!
Good review. I like my 1st gen FZ1 enough I kept it when I bought my mt-10. The 1st 2nd and 3rd gen FZ1 are all wonderful all around bikes that handle very good. There are some very good deals out there on the 1st and 2nd gen bikes. All these FZ1 will run good for a lot of miles.

@@KM-os4be ok man, thanks, appreciate it!
I'm 5'11" 250lbs and toured around on a FZ1 and LOVED that bike, getting around anything was never a concern. The guy's I travelled with had a 250 and 300 ninja and they thought fuel wise they would have the upper hand but with long stretches we actually got very similar mileage. I had to laugh when you hit your knee because I would have a tank bag and a pack on the rear seat giving me the smallest area to slide onto the bike, many laughs ensued.
Can confirm my ninja 400 loves drinking gas going 80 in 6th
best way to get on such bikes? cowboy style! from the LEFT side of bike.....lol NEVER from the right side EVER!....well maybe if some arsehole parked 2" from left side....I cat imagine intentionally trying to mount from right side? on camera?
AAHAHAH LOVE the edits on this one! great vids Sean ( or Shawn, Shaun, Shone, Chone... idk )
I bought a brand new one in 2004...black with a silver stripe. Best bike I owned. 2 kids and a mortgage later, other things took priority. Man, I miss that thing.
I have an 09 FZ1. It has been my favorite bike, comfort like a touring, power like a super. The only thing I don't like about it is it has the Euro headlight from the previous owner. If anyone out there has a stock front I'm looking to buy. This is a killer bike!
I will buy that headlight assembly off of you! I have stock and it’s red
The FZ1 is more like a light weight sport touring bike
not mine.
Tyler Braden 😂 would be fun on the track but far from a track bike
Enjoy your videos.
Happy New year from Los Angeles California USA 🇺🇸
I love my FZ-1! The sound is amazing and I ride it for hours on end!
I've said it before, MSF school teaches to approach the bike from the left, and grab the front brake for stability, that way the bike is leaning toward you, and even for taller riders, better clearance.
Love Love Love my 2009 Blue FZ1 with dark windshield and other really cool mods. 5K with 3500 miles. Stunning. Fast. Powerful. Rides beautifully. No regrets! : )

Hoping for another warm day here in Michigan
@@pinkflower313 I have as well.. I've since moved on to an S1000RR though.
Just an FYI, if you have troubles with bumps and your lower back on a cruiser bike, try something like this with the pegs under your hips. You'll use your knees and hips for absorbing shocks of the bumps, while still being in an upright position. Saved my back, and has me riding 75% long between stops for back breaks.
My brother has one exactly like this, an 09, even the same color. We went on a 9 day 4500 mile ride back in September of 19 and he was comfortable enough. He purchased a Corbin seat for it after that trip. That trip was really pushing the comfort limits on this bike.
There also easily upgraded, I’ve got an r1 front end and a nitron rear shock which is a massive upgrade. I’ve had firebades, gsxr’s, tuono’s, speed triples, etc and the fz1 is the nest bike I’ve owned. And yes your mirrors are wrong.
Terek Janczik 04-06 is what I used as there a direct bolt on.
Terek Janczik you can get the ecu flashed but it won’t be as quick as an r1 but does improve it.
Terek Janczik I have a flashed 2006 FZ1 that I’ve flashed myself using ecu flash kit, it makes even more low end power but it won’t be much of a difference in the top end, it won’t be as fast as a R1 but it’s still wicked fast.
Cornish_ Boy do you recommend switching to R1 front forks for heavier riders? I’m about 270 and have to almost max out preload on my FZ1
Revelation Rider I would personally yes, I’m around 18 stone(think that’s about 260lbs) and I have them set up very firm. I’ve also got a nitron rear shock which made a big difference when dealing which my weight.
My starter bike is an 05 Yamaha FZ6, the little brother of this steed.
order9066 perfect bike to start on, much more forgiving and will prepare you for more power in the future 👌🏻
I started with the 2013 FZ8. Best decision ever
I am 20 years old and have been riding bikes since i was 16 and have owned a 600cc sport bike and a couple different enduros. Just picked one of these up a few weeks ago and am in love. Perfect for getting to work on busy NJ back roads and still tuns of fun when the roads open up.
I have been riding my FZ1 N now for more than Km77k - and still looove the bike !
I've been wanting one of these for a long while. I want to use it as a sport touring bike to have next to my magna.
I rode my first gen FZ1 across the county (and then some). If you're gonna tour, get yourself a bigger windscreen and a Sargent seat, you'll appreciate it.
@@383SS350 that's on my list of things to buy, windshield, seat, engine cage, crash bars, throttle lock, and cargo boxes. Although I'll probably end up with a Corbin seat.
You'll love the FZ1. I'd research the Corbin vs Sargent. The used Corbins seems to be for sale a lot on the FZ1 market, and a lot of them get replaced with Sargents. Have you considered an FJR? I have both. If I have to get rid of one, the FZ1 will have to go.
@@383SS350 I have, and I'm also considering a newer valkyrie. Theres a dealership near me in KC that has all three so I'll get to see each in person and find what I like the most.

I found a 2009 FZ1, same color, same miles for 1000 bucks less near Miami. Needless to say, I bought it and I love it. After one year of ownership i can say this is the best bike I have ever owned.
I ride a 2004 FZ6 and while I think I'd rather have the FZ1, I can still keep up with anyone, and out perform most. I absolutely LOVE it. It was cheap and I've had it for just over 2 years now. Great engineering too. Easy to maintain myself and very comfortable to ride.
Yeah, ok, lol. The FZ1 runs 10.62 @ 130mph in the 1/4 mile. The FZ6 runs 11.32 @ 118.
Not even close!
@@moosecapades1722 so glad you were here to reply to a comment I made 4 years ago 👏🏻😆
Just for fun: I've owned 3 liter bikes since then and though my comment was pretty general and I knew less back then, the FZ6 still holds up well. Again, great bike.
the 2009 Yamaha fz1 is limited by the factory at 170 mph 0-60 mph 2.8 seconds can out run 600 super sports 0-60 and top end
Exactly 150 my ass🤣🤣🤣
Yeah, clears 140 in 4th without issue
I have an 08 ZX10 and an 07 FZ1, let my friend ride the FZ one day and and we did a pull on the highway. The ZX10 has a full M4 exhaust, with a tune and some carbon fiber parts, the FZ is sprocketed for more accel and has an exhaust. The FZ kept up with the ZX10 up to about 130mph then the ZX10 started pulling.
Bought mine new in 06. fourteen years ago. Still have it. 90,000 miles. been a great bike. Had to change stater and rotor and cam timing sensor several years ago but that's it other than regular maintenance.
My Fz1 is the first bike I've owned that reminds me why I bought it everytime I ride it. It's comfortable enough that I won't hesitate to load up and take off cross country but is still sporty enough to hang in the twisties
When compared to the MT-10 this bike is freaking gorgeous
Nooo
Too true. MT-10 is fugly.
My last bike was a ‘14 FZ-1.
Very fast 🏍 💨, kinda comfortable, great for commuting and canyon carving. Decent ~40+ mpg...Depending on how it’s ridden. Conveniently low tech. Has great headlights for night riding...unlike newer versions, ie. mt09 etc. Had mine north of 150mph in Mexico, on a track and could’ve gone faster. Oh, and it will wheelie if your not careful, or if you want.
Mirrors pivot down lower...fold in/up for storage.
I kind of miss her 🥺😭
I miss my fz6 so I can imagine how you feel about missing your fz1
Great headlights?
Yeah idk about that one.
Maybe I need new bulbs 🤔
Keep up the good videos
Picked up a 08 fz1 with the n frontend conversion. Wish it had the windshield but it is perfect. Almost r1 power in a comfy package . Torque for days. Great sound . Love it and plan to keep it forever
wouldn't mind one of those bikes, I'm learning on the MT-07.
I was in your shoes, 2017 fz07 red, got stolen. I dearly miss that low-end torque, it was an absolute hooligan machine in a good way, but I couldn't stand being on the highway for long. Recently bought an 06 fz1 and I have 0 regrets. If you're looking for an upgrade, I can vouch that you will be proud you picked the fz1. Killer bike for cheap
I'd definitely recommend to get comfortable on the MT before moving up to the FZ1 - killer bike but damn they are quick.
FZ1 is an awesome bike and I love mine to death but it is wicked fast and if you don’t have a lot of experience riding, you’ll crash it like I did with mine (but fixed it afterwards 😁)
i purchased a clean 2007 fz1 for 2500. i love the bike and like he says its very fast. my next bike is going to be a mt10
Damn did you get a steal. The KBB for my 07 Raven in good condition is around 4300. Mine has 8k original miles, gargage kept and never been down.
Bruce Calvert how many miles on it?
Same. $2600 for an 07 with 20k. Super fun and comfortable bike.
Mt 10 isn't any faster than an a FZ1. Mt 10 has a crossplane crankshaft for more mid range power vs flat plane which is lighter and allows engine to rev higher. My 09 Fz1 with an Ivan's tune, modified flies, fuel cut, power commander, and two bros exhaust and dynoed put out 150 hp at 11k rpm and 79ft lbs of torque at 9500RPM. Mt10 with similar mods makes a nearly same power and torque just sooner in the rev range..
I like the mt10 because of the safety features.abs and traction control.and cruise control. I just love the sound of the mt1. I dont like that the bike wants to stand up in the first 3 gears. My 07 stays planted and its hard to wheelie
I currently ride a 2009 Yamaha FZ6R (bought new 2010) and have been riding it since. It's been awesome! Never broken down, never not started. I've only had to do oil changes and new tires. New chain and sprockets this spring and maybe front brake pads. lol
That sir is why you always get on the bike from the kickstand side. Lol love the videos keep them coming.
Rolls on the ground writhing in pain... “I hate that bike...jk” 🤣🤣
love how you blur the speedo whenever you start to accelerate.. .like we dont know that you're doing a smidge over 35 ;)
I noticed that too, maybe has afraid the cops are watching his videos
"Knowing", & proving in court are two different things.
not sure why anyone does this stuff. Even if a cop is sitting at home watching this, what exactly are they gonna do? Nothing.
For me, the inline 4 sound is also superior. LOL, I love how you hide the speedometer with the fog of war (smart... you don't want this video being used against you in court). Also, a "naked" bike like that gets less attention and less costly to repair if you do lay it down. Thanks for the video 👍
That side-by-side seating position was a great idea. Im glad you said something about those mirrors they were bugging me the whole time and all I noticed.
the original mirrors are way better just google Fz1 on googlw pics
There are some downsides to this bike actually. '06-'07 models suffer from a frame cracks, pretty common issue that was. Also ' 06-'15 models suffer from a generator rotor magnets falling off and going into the engine case, updated Yamaha parts was issued but you need to pay for it yourself.
Frame cracks were from dumb asses wheeling it. It has loads of low end so the hooligan crowd made it their go to. As for rotor magnets I never received a recall from Yamaha. You would have thought that might have crossed their minds?
I had the rotor magnets go at 72k miles! The ABS also messes up because it naturally wheelies with the power so Ive had that off since I got it!
Kenneth I had frame crack on my fz6 2004 as well without any wheeling.
Yeah rotor needs swapping out for the updated part, I have a video on how to
Yes, my FZ1 frame also has cracks and it is re-welded
tis a beaut
Loved my Red 2008 FZ 1. I had it for 1 year and put 11k miles on it, 3k of that was my round trip from NY to FLA. On my way home from work one night I hit 154 mph. Shortly after that I sold it and got a touring HD, after all I was 47 years old and just couldn't trust myself to stop twisting that throttle every night on my commute home.
