The Fz6 is not a beginner bike! It's a detuned 2nd gen R6 motor but still puts out 100hp. I had one as a second bike and sure, around town if you don't push the RPMs above 6k, it's as non-eventful as anything else out there. Start pushing the revs higher, you better hang on tight. Crazy acceleration and much more comfortable than a R6 to boot.

I can't quit mine. It's been so loyal and great to me, and I have minimal space to work on a bike.
I live on a steep hill, my garage is small, the center stand is a HUGE plus. It's good on gas, comfy, and great to go longer distances on. When I get another bike, I'll probably just keep my beloved fz and pass it down to the kid I'll never have.

The FZ6 was quite the machine, that motor is basically a nearly full spec 2nd gen R6 motor, before the R6 ended up with a 16,000rpm powerband. It's successor in the lineup is the FZ-09 or FJ-09/Tracer 900. The FZ6 has 100hp on the nose, as compared to the 71hp of the FZ-07 and 115hp of the FZ-09.

The bike not having as much potential as a super-sport is the reason I like it! Not strictly a downside for anybody looking for a sporty bike with a more mild seating position, set up for the 90% of riding you do which is at normal speeds, on normal roads. For the slight downside of "we're not fast enough!," you're still plenty fast, 0-60 in 3.5 ish seconds is plenty fast for a beginner

I have that exact bike (2009, same black) the bike you're riding sounds different because the exhaust is not stock, mine still has the original. I got mine 2 years ago with only 8k miles, and it's now up to 25k. It's got more power but less torque than the FZ07. The FZ6R engine was tuned down a little as well, that's got about the same power as the FZ07, I think 67 vs 76. So now I'm waiting a couple years until I can get a new FZ09 used with a few miles on it don't want one from the first couple years, heard too much about the twitchy handling and wheelie all the time ride, but at least I'm not suffering in the meantime!

hey man would you consider this to be on the similar level of starter bikes like the ninja 650 because my friend has a ninja 400 that ive road multiple times i would love a lil more power but i love the sound of the fz6r. If u think its too much for a starter on a street bike (ive road dirtbikes till this day) but i know the street is different,, please get back to me and let me know your opinion.

Was thinking about selling my DRZ400SM and getting an FZ07 but I changed my mind at the last minute because I just love this bike too much so thinking about buying something cheap and used instead and hence I'm looking at the FZ6. What's a decent price for it and what are the other options for a used naked bikes?

      @keeganhottinger92 Před 5 lety +2

Depending on where you're at, a pretty good price from what I've seen is about $3000 or so for a used 2007-2009 bike with ok mileage. Don't be dissuaded by high mileage on these bikes, just make sure that if it has above 24,000 miles that valves were adjusted. I'm also moving on from a dual sport and was looking at the sv650 or honda cb500f but for value, this bike seems much better!

The FZ6 is a better overall bike by far than the R6. At least the average Joe can ride the FZ6 for more than 30 miles without being crippled like you would be on an R6. More miles to a tank of gas and better all day riding position with better wind protection than the Ricky racer R6, I've had both and the FZ6 is just a better bike for people that actually ride their motorcycles

I owned one of these exact bikes and rode it for 50k mi.!!! It’s actually based on the 2004 R6S, so it does have some of that supersport character, with street ergos.
Today I ride a Honda CB 1000R, more grunt down low! But both handle well for street riding, supersport bikes are better track weapons, but not as comfortable for a daily ride.

I've had both and the FZ6 is probably the perfect bike with a little work. Should have done a drag race from a stop. The FZ6 would pull hard on the R6. The R6 is all top end which is great for the track but if you live in the real world the FZ is the better bike. If you get the FZ6 flashed and dyno tuned it's a different animal. The computer is restricted and the throttle bodies don't open all the way from the factory (that goes for both of them). The factory suspension is pretty low end but if you have the forks/shock revalved with Racetech gold valves and resprung it becomes perfect for not a ton of money. The forks have no adjustability but you can replace the top caps with preload adjusters. I just wish it had split seats, my tail bag won't fit on the rear of the banana seat and it doesn't look as cool. The R6 is a crappy street bike in comparison. It just looks cooler.

This is NOT an entry level bike!!!!!! The acceleration is what most people enjoy in bikes and with this bike you can only enjoy 1st gear acceleration under reasonable speeds especially in the city.(not to mention the "hole" in power at low revs.(unsafe overtake)).
I find bigger displacement 2 cylinder engines far more safe and playful (i.e TDM900).

I got myself an SV1000S and now I'm considering a more upright inline four bike that is fun at slower speeds, has a softer suspension and gives out this sweet sporty soundtrack. Mine seems really uncomfortable at city speeds and its natural velocity is overwhelming for me as a new rider. I actually really liked what I saw here. How would you say FZ1 stacks up against FZ6 from city speeds up to 100 mph? Would FZ1 seem overwhelming as well? Thanks

FZ07 is a parallel twin, FZ09 is a I-3. And i disagree the FZ6 is a beginner's bike. I've roasted CBR600RRs to 60mph and 100mph and he finally caught me at 120mph. The low and mid torque really pulls better. Beginner's bike would be a 250-500cc which tends to be an insurance class around 49hp (500cc) whereas the FZ6 is 98hp (600cc).

Mine was astonishingly affordable and perfectly reliable. Maintenance costs are low, it sips on 87 octane, and it has a center stand. With 42k miles on the odometer, it's the cheapest all around vehicle that I've ever owned and my favorite to drive. I toured an 1100 mile road trip without becoming a cripple, so it has a clear advantage over traditional crotch rockets. If you're inexperienced, you will have to show discipline to not ask the bike for more power. It's never underpowered, but with the tachometer under 9k, it's very well-mannered. It should be fine for you if you have the discipline for it. I bought mine as my second bike and I think it fills that role nicely. I still have it even now with somewhere around 50k miles of riding experience across different bikes. Keep the shiny side up and don't be afraid to slow down and enjoy the ride.

The power could easily get you into trouble, but it's a plus on the freeway. Does yours give a "clunk" when dropping into first from neutral? I've heard its normal.

I do 200 mile trips pretty regularly on it and they're no sweat at all. That's with the Yamaha comfort seat, though - one of my small complaints about the bike is the stock seat. I upgraded that immediately after my first long trip.
