I bought my 2007 FZ6 new and after 55k miles still haven't had any issues. Most of those miles have been daily commuting year round with a few scooters in between to keep the miles down and for convenience. I also had a few years that my kids were in their teen that I had a car for all the activities 😅. Now I'm back to motorcycles as primary transportation.
I recently bought a DR650 to be my daily and for a change of pace. As I get older I've grow to like a slower pace and want to explore new more remote areas.
I love my FZ6 and, though other bikes may come and go, it is a bike I plan to keep for a long time to come.

I bought a light blue S2 from 2010 last year because of all your videos. It's a great as you say, for someone that likes to make small trip rides, likes a sport look but with a neutral riding position. It can ride soft at low RPMs, but pulls great at higher RPMs. And you can find them used at great prices.

I have my fz6 since 2007, 16 years now!!! and is a 2004 model, with the 98Hp. Still is a joy to ride, although I don't like the suspension much, I agree with you. Also the roads here are terrible and I would definitely like to improve it. The past 11 years though I don't use it so much, I use my car as I have two children. Thanks.

Standard suspension isn't the best. Don't have to go mad but some upgraded suspension would transform the ride. And as yours sounds old even more reason. Give here some T.L.C. and it will pay you back x10.

@@Calvinm That first 1 is changing an old battery. It's work very well for a year, but last week I found some problems.
About this time in my city (in Thailand) the rain is very heavy. By 0200 pm I ride this fazer to my customers' house. I turn key switch off just minutes, then turn it on. But nothing happen. Every signal lighting still down, also the dashboard completely extinguished. I have no idea what's going on.
Fortunately after waiting for 5 or 10 minutes. I try to turn key switch on again. But now it's working! Then I start the engine and the dashboard is working as well too. But seemingly all my dashboard's custom setting is restore to default setting. Therefore I take a time for my new custom setting again. Yesterday I chek this battery and found no problems.
Have you experianced these problems like me before?

Hey man just found your channel. I was just gifted a 2006 FZ6; it was sitting in a coworkers garage just gathering dust, it starts but not rode for years, he knew I was thinking about getting another bike [had a Vstrom 650 years ago] so he said if I want it it's mine! Was doing some youtube searches and of course found your stuff. Super awesome, binging on your videos. Getting the bike in 2 days. It's straight to the shop for service (and likely new tires).

I must say, your videos along with other videos about this bike convinced me a year ago to purchase a Yamaha FZ6 S2 2009 as my first bike. And also, after I bought it, with the help of your videos and the PDF Service Manual that I could download from the internet, I managed to make the entire maintenance like: changing oil, brake fluid, coolant, spark plugs and even change a broken regulator/rectifier. After a year of ownership, I can say that I made the perfect choice although I didn't had the chance to use it very often, since I work from home. But, it's the perfect combination for me, because I like sport bikes which don't fit my needs (I travel most in the city). So, a faired naked bike like this one was just perfect. Thank you very much!

Its an allrounder bike that it is made to do it all. I lacks the cherecter of the twin but makes up for it by being versatile. I could not imagine being more comfortable on my SFV 650. This bike ticks all the boxes and does not disappoint. with regards to the ignition problems, I kept having it even after the coil swap. I read about Coil on plug mod on FJR1300 forum. I took my chances and swapped the factory coils with the coilsticks from FZ/MT 07. Mind you, i needed four of them, but it worked. Now, bike runs buttery smooth. Thanks though for all the FZ6 content, cheers from England.

Hi Calvin hello from across the pond in Wales.
Nitron shock sorts the rear pogo stick and ride height adjustable (5ft 9") my feet flat to the floor!
Nitron R1 is a basic shock, should be affordable and heaps better.
For the front end Matris F15 fully adjustable fork cartridge kit, (all internals) preload, compression and rebound adjustable transforms the handling!
Other alternative 2003-2005 forks also 43mm straight swap. Retains same wheel, discs and calipers.
Slightly more complicated as four spacers required: two wheel spacers and two caliper spacers.
Front fender requires reshaping but easy enough if if you can use a angle grinder, file and wet'n'dry.
    Hope this helps .
    Chris.

I ended up "getting lucky", or at least that's the way I see it now, I picked up an 06' FZ6 with 38k on it as a starter bike, got a good price on it and it was very well looked after by the previous owner. I've been working to understand how to do maintenance on it and your videos have been very helpful! For anyone else who's thinking of grabbing one of these? At 6'3" I've taken it on 8 hour long rides comfortably and concur Calvins review based on my experience with the bike so far.

I agree about not having an FZ6 as your first big bike. I passed my test here in the UK on a 125 and went straight to an FZ6. Within a month I knew I was either going to lose my license or lose my life. Neither of which were appealing. So I downsized to a KTM390 Duke. A much better bike for me to practice my road skills.Though I gotta say... A year on... I freaking loved that 2008 FZ6 S2. Just wish they had ABS on them.

Excellent review...You are right about Yamaha having the tendency to cut cost. My 2021 MT-09 SP's problems, which is my first Yamaha, are all due to cost cutting. This is becoming an annoying trend. I think it is a deceitful practice. I must confess; based on my experience and ownership, Kawasaki's are well thought out and better built.
One biggest gripe; when riding and facing emergency situations, I find myself hunting for the flasher switch (high/low beam switch) on Yamaha, while on Kawasaki's it is placed right at the index finger and you can use it instinctively in a split second and save your life. Additionally, Kawasaki headlights are a lot brighter with better illumination compare to my Yamaha. On Yamaha the cruise control will sporadically stop working until you unplug and also unscrew the O2 sensor, clean it and screw it back in; I believe it is due to poor plug interface due to low budget materials.
With this Gen 3 MT-09, majority of the problems, resulting in recall and TPS problems are due to low budget materials. Solution; applying dielectric grease on all possible connections I come across. Same is true for my 2020 Kawasaki as well. This nefarious cost cutting is like cancer; it is spreading. This pandemic started mostly in Germany and BMW was the main offender (my opinion).

I liked your review, even if I believe that it's irrelevant nowadays to talk about a very well proven bike that Yamaha chose to discontinue, especially when you have bought it second hand. Generally i tend to agree with you, apart from three points: 1) Touring capabilities: You can't compare it with a GS, specially because with the fz6 you know you'll always get were you want to go 😄 2) The bike is amazingly steady on the highway on any given speed, even above 200km/h, 3) It really does need a few major upgrades, like fe. suspensions, break lines etc, but these cost almost nothing for the fz6, compared to other bike's upgrades. Generally, the bike is as reliable as it gets and it costed me a fraction of what I'd normally should pay for such a bike, back in 2009 when I bought it brand new. After almost 100.000km with no problems at all! I can't seem as well to be able to let it go...💙

Did the deal today and picking it up on Wednesday. 06 FZ6N, so no fairing and for that reason a bit uncomfortable at higher speeds or longer rides. Decent price and low milage. It has a few issues, front forks need servicing and so does the brakes. I thought I noticed a few misfires but I wrote it down to old fuel (it's been sitting for two years) or spark plugs. I hope it's not coils/cdi. It had one previous fault code, but none existing after either reset or battery reinstall. I'll follow your channel and make sure to ask you for advice when I would need a helping mind. :) Thanks for charing your thoughts and experience of the bike. /cheers

I currently ride a 2019 mt07. It's a good bike and all, but it's snatchy throttle and weak suspension seriously drive me nuts. Recently me and a buddy swapped bikes for a ride. He rides a 2007 FZ6. I am absolutely in love. It is so SMOOTH. I hear most people complain about having no power low down and having to rev out the bike to get speed, but I love that. I don't like the bike being rowdy and wanting to run away while in traffic commuting. I like the bike to be mellow as I cruise through town and then a blast when I take it out to really push those revs. There is also no better sounding engine then a screaming inline 4. I have been looking for a fz6n ever since and have had zero luck. I'd love to stick with Yamaha since I've only ever owned Yamahas, but it seems like the naked inline four FZ6n is going to remain a dream. I want a naked in line four so bad that I may just end up selling the mt07 and picking up a Suzuki GSX s750.
Thanks for the great and honest review. Even the negatives don't dissuade me from wanting one.

Wow dude this gave me goosebumps. So I was planning on saving up and getting an MT-07. But recently I seen a 06 fz600n for sale on marketplace (I've always wanted a naked sport bike) for 3k down from 3.6. The bike was so super clean looking in person It was hard to pass up so I bought it. Reading this put my hint of buyers remorse at ease like man should I have kept saving and got a way newer bike. Thankfully he let me test ride it and I was in heaven. I'm used to riding an 85 700cc so this thing rode like a dream lol. Picking it up tomorow morning so I'm super stoked and just watching every video I can on it! Thanks for sharing your comment.

Picked up an 05 last year at the age of 35 for my first bike. Still way more power than what I need but it sure is fun to use it at times. I do wish I had the second gen model, if only for the more powerful brakes, redesigned fairing making some maintenance a bit easier, and the switch back to an analog tach.

I would try using a temperature probe or infrared camera to confirm the temp of the coolant. In the city my bike will read up to 100 degrees C then the fan kicks on and it comes down a bit. Once I’m moving the temp drops back down into the high 80’s usually depending on the environment and speed.

I think that was more common the the FZ6 S1 because Yamaha didn’t use a mechanical locking nut on the front sprocket. That’s awful though!
