This video saved me literally hundreds of dollars in labor. It’s not a crazy hard repair an this video made it so easy.. Love my fz8

Thanks for this video. Bike left me stranded far from home and this is exactly what happened to my bike, even to the point of 'the regulator doesn't test bad" i even put in the redesigned rotor as the ther comments recommended.

Theres a upgraded part for the rotor, the fault is actually from the glue in the magnets that is very soft and with a little heat make some problems. It's a known problem from this especific model, the regulater shouldn't be nothing to do with that.
    Cheers

Exact thing happened to me on friday.... All the magnets stuck on the stator.... Cheers to yamaha for the great design that can potentially destroy your engine... Thank for the great video, will help a lot with the repair...

Those magnets are held in by adhesive. It's a known issue for that adhesive to fail. You are replacing that rotor with the same defective design. Please use the upgraded rotor with the magnet shield.

With these bikes well known stator magnet issue the first thing to check would be the stator. As soon as its suspected that the magnet glue has failed I'd of given up trying to start it, smashed magnets are not something you want circulating in the oil. This guy was extremely lucky his whole engine wasn't wrecked.
As someone else said replacing with the same part is just setting it up to happen again some time in the future. Upgraded parts without separate magnets are available. Yamaha should of done a recall on this but never did

Nice video. You should have used the upgraded rotor instead. You basically put a new grenade in there.

@@melsmotors They sold you a part that’s been superseded. The new part number is 2SH-81450-00-00. The magnets aren’t exposed in the new part. Just trying to help out a fellow mechanic.

@@edwardspaccarelli5944 Thanks, the part is warranted for a year, if it fails then we'll get it sorted for the customer. I appreciate the update though 😊😊👍👍

@@melsmotors so you are going to replace their engine if the new rotor destroys it? What if it happens after a year? It's a time bomb. If I were the customer I would much rather pay you to do it over again with a new upgraded unit then live with the possibility of the one you just put in failing.

I’m no mechanic but have been researching the rotor since I got bike (Xmas 2022) and replaced my rotor first thing on my 09 fz1 ….I’m surprised anyone would sell the old style (Grenade) rotor within the last 10 yrs …it was upgraded for last yr or two on fz1’s (I believe 2014 from what I remember )…which is annoying enough …they(yamaha) knew about issue with rotor long before 2014 and waited years to change to the rm stator design (encased magnets)…..I am waiting for the stator cover gasket to replace my stator ,rectifier and coils and plugs (all from RM stator ) as my rectifier plug melted into the rectifier, so I dont want to take any chances and replacing it all …

I v got yamaha FZ 8 and recently charged up battery as I v got parasite draw but it drains battery at slow rate around 3 days then I charged up battery and it's cracking engine but bike not starting and 9n display coming up hight temperature where should be low make me wonder if battery somehow causes it and was completely flat before so I had it on repair cycle and then charged up? By the way great video

My fz8 is the first naked bike I've ever ridden, what causes the the slight chirping whine from the engines? Have the other bikes I've ridden had that but the fairings muffled it?

Hi. Please could you tell me did you found any bits of magnet when removed oil drain cover or you did not remove it? Did you had to flush the engine before put new parts and put a new oil? I've got the same problem on my bike and trying to figure out what need to be done before order all parts. Thanks for the video.

Wish I found tHis video b4 I bought my parts …since my rectifier overheated and melted the terminals /plug I would’ve definitely spent the extra $40+/- for a mofset rectifier 🤦🏼‍♂️…hopefully the RM STATOR brand stator ,rectifier, and coils will be enough of a upgrade to correct my stock/oem parts issues ….or at least if this rectifier burns up after replacing the stator and the old stator looks and tests ok I’ll know that it’s the rectifier…. and then won’t have to go back into the engine and will then get the RM BRAND MOFSET rectifier…🤷🏼‍♂️😬🤞🏻✌️
