  • The moment on October 3, 2019 where Banksy’s “Devolved Parliament” sold for a record £8.5 million at Sotheby's auction house in London. After premiums, the sale was recorded as £9,978,500 (GBP). Banksy's previous auction record was for ‘Keep It Spotless’ which sold for £1.87m in 2008. The shredded “Girl With Balloon” sold for approx. £1m at Sotheby's on October 5, 2018.

      Thing is, as an artist and sculptor...If the majority of people set enough time in a year to return to their innate creativity (we are children of creation), they'd probably find in a good couple years they could produce this work, similar or better themselves...Seriously.
      Its funny though how banksy does work to question the system basically...Yet it's the system, the rich and wealthy that always end up owning his work...

      You hit the nail on the head!!!
      There are a good few videos on various video sharing channels and underground articles that tell you that that is EXACTLY what is going on! That no painting on earth is worth that much...its just oil on a canvas. Sure a piece will mean more to some than others but NOOOO artworks subjective meaning is worth millions of $...Please continue with your line of thinking...This whole thing is a scam!

      @@StennMathis Shit is worth exactly how much people are ready to pay for it, no more or less. Nothing has an "inherent" value.
      If there are people out there willing to pay 8 mil for a painting, the painting is worth 8 mil BY DEFINITION.
      Or are you a marxist who believes in the labour theory of value?

    100,000 incremental bids? this could go on forever. Like if I have bid 50 mil 100 thou, am I likely to bail out at 50 mil 200 thou? Bank would be broken by the 50 mil not by the 100 thou extra.

    Well, we could have fed a small city for a month, but instead we passed 9 million dollars from one rich family to another. Banksy probably made a cool $500,000 putting it on the auction block.
