Having this done tomorrow on my pool. Had issues all last season with no suction coming from the skimmers. Praying I don't have leaking underground piping as that's easily a several-thousand dollar repair job here in the Northeast.

Advice to all pool owners. If it happened that your pump was replaced because it was running out of water, the most possible place of leaking is close to connection with the pump due to the heat occurred from the burnt old pump. So concentrate on searching that area before spending a lot of $$. This is from my own experience

Great vid Lance, I have three returns two at shallow end and main one at the deepand a pool guy claims the leak is at the returns says that was put in 8 years ago he says its called a spot flex it I have up here. Its white and rib looking. says when everything is plugged up doesn't leak so cant be light and before that the main drain was fixed and other possible leaks as well all fix. So with the pool filter running 3 days it leaks 2 fingers when the pool filter is off leaks more like double. How can I tell if the return is really the problem before I incur a big expense. Gunite pool all returns under concrete surrounding pool. Thanks so much, Luba

If you're testing the suction side, why would you close the return jet?

Yo man our Anderson pressure test didn't have that release valve and I unplugged a line that was somehow still under pressure, even though the plug on the tester end was already removed.
Little bits of sand were blown out of the return line into my hand with such force it broke skin.

I find that when you located the exact point of the leak, you expose the pipe and realize a brace from the pool has broken the pipe. 95% of my repairs = New return lines away from the over dig and back fill of crappy installers.

This comment is for those who used fix-a-leak once and it did not fix the leak. This is the 21st Century. We no-longer have to depend solely on a microphone then break up concrete and dig. We now have cameras that we can feed into pipes to detect breaks.
What we need is a camera kit which can feed a camera into the pipe. Camera can be equipped with a listening device for air, or dye release for water.
Once the leak is found, a repair device can be sent into the pipe to deposit epoxy or other sealant.

How much does a pressure test cost? That question was asked in these comments 5 years ago, but never answered. It is an important question. I have a local pool company that is trying to charge me $690 for this test

Then that's too much I believe, here in FL it's about 300$, that include the repair if it's in the pool, along skimmer etc. If they cannot find it, no charge.

Anderson sells the valves and plugs, so rather than just sell to pool companies specializing in this service they can expand sales to home diy's.
