The whole trial aspect of Garnt's Thai wedding where he had to prove his worth to the bride's household is very similar to how traditional Chinese weddings work as well here in Malaysia. The groom and his entourage (best men and friends basically) show up to the house of the bride and they are subject to punishment games by the bridesmaids that they have to complete in order to be let into the house so that the groom can fetch his bride. A lot of the games are usually pretty silly and are basically for the groom's and bride's friends to have fun and be happy for their friend's best day, including stuff like push ups on squeaky toys, using lipstick as ugly makeup, screaming out a very cringey vow and using plastic wrap to make the ugliest face possible. This is followed by the traditional tea giving ceremony to the parents and elders which you may be familiar with if you know Chinese culture.
Yea we call it gatecrashing here in Singapore. However having been to a Thai wedding myself before, gatecrashing games in Thailand are usually a lot more wholesome instead of being designed to embarass or dick over the groom.

As a Thai person, it is very interesting how I rarely encounter questionable scammy stuff in thailand (bc Iâm with my Thai family). But the moment I went back with my girlfriend (who is white) we constantly encountered scammer and people trying to sell stuff to us. I guess the moment you look like a tourist, all the scammer come out of the woodwork to target youâŠ.
Edit: 5:00 I would say Thai immigration (as someone who enter and exit the country regularly) has become more lenient due to Covid 19. Gov is trying hard to get in tourist so they not as strict as pre Covid (still US immigration is extremely strict in comparison). Also, young western tourists are not deemed problematic for the most part.
Thailand has the highest traffic accident/fatality per capita in entirety of Asia...its really bad. Oh Tuk tuks are very much tourist only thing now (ironic given how tuk tuks were economical taxi just over a decade ago) .
Its the same way in lots of countries; people will take advantage of those who donât really understand whats going on or cant communicate that well.
i can relate. whenever i visit thailand i make sure i have my cousins or friends to go shopping with.
I look pretty white but I find that speaking a little bit of Thai goes a long way......but getting ripped off by local transportation will never change. The only way to win is to already know the locally accepted price beforehand.
I travel to Thailand a lot to hang out with my girlfriend, and we have been scammed only twice. Once it was with a scammy taxi driver.

Congratulations again Garnt. Itâs Cool to hear that Thailand Buddhists are also trying to preserve Sanskrit. I feel glad as I can read and write a little bit of it as well. The language naturally also sounds rhythmical sometimes.đđđđ
Sanskrit and especially religious chants in Sanskrit sound amazingly calming and ethereal.
Just not the wide mouth sound our Pandits use lol
The Buddhist(not so sure about other sects but Theravada Buddhist for sure) chants are actually in Pali, which was the language of the common people as opposed to Sanskrit which was the scholarly language mostly used by the upper class in the Indian subcontinent when Buddhism was emerging.
Yup thereâs a good chance that south east Asia would chant in Pali, the language spoken in northern India by the Buddha as far as Iâm aware it predates Sanskrit
I swear, Connor's Fortnite dances come up way more often than I thought they ever would
As a native Thai, Anime and Japanese culture are very popular in Thailand, but due to the language barrier, not many people know about Trash Taste or other great English content out there.
Driving in Thailand :
(how suck i face every week)
As a university student, I drive about 80+ km from my house to university on both the main road and the motorway once a week; normally it takes about one and a half hours, but some days it can go up to three or more hours due to traffic jams.
"But! You're driving on the highway; it can't be that long, right? traffic jam can't affect that much on motorway right?"
Imagine three-lane motorways with a lot of cars where the three lanes will change to nine lanes for each tollgate and then go back to three lanes again! And also, the tollgates are divided into sections for cash payments (which take more time) and electronic payments (which are fast and convenient): five for cash on the left and four for electronic payments on the right.
Now let's imagine how chaotic it will be, if there is a guy driving in the right lane (the fastest lane), but he doesn't have an electronic payment device, what is he going to do? He must change lane from the right side to the left side before entering the tollgate by going into other lanes one by one while other cars are queuing in each lane on a road full of cars until he reaches the cash payment section. After that, nine tollgates will become three normal lanes again, so all of the cars must cut off each other to go back into the three lanes.

No one in Thailand actually get a Taxi anymore unless thereâs no other choice bc even we natives get scammedđ The majority of Thai people in the city uses the app Grab for taxi, motorcycle, food delivery, mail delivery, etc. so we know exactly how much we have to pay and itâs convenient. People here (especially in Bangkok) donât really use anything non-digital anymore, so if you do, theyâll know youâre not familiar with the country at all. We pay with our phones.
Coming to Thailand (or any other countries really), you really need to research what the locals use bc people will try to profit off you if you even remotely look or feel foreign. Iâm 100% Thai, but people around the temples once tried to scam me bc I was with a white friendđŹ

32:42 I think this might be the same feeling when you're in a concert and the band or artist requested everyone to sing with them without playing any instruments. Or like when idol fans are chanting their chants. In my opinion, it's a sense of belonging/belongingness. You don't know most of the people around you, but you all know this one song/chant, and you're singing/chanting it together. You feel this feeling of acceptance... being part of a group without any judgment or something like that.
