Don't like the interview aspect of the video. Those parts feel to forced and like there was multiple line takes, doesn't feel authentic to the normal style. The talk of core memories made me remember a core memory I recently unlocked. I watched an episode of One Piece Water 7, this would have been around 2003-2008 range so I have no idea how I watched it. I was definitely not at my house and there's no one else I could ever ask about it. It also wasn't online because it was on a big CRT in a living room so definitely a VHS or something. The core memory itself revolved around CP9 revealing themselves to Robin for the first time, where they just say "CP9" and get her to go with them. The combination of a creepy scene THEN human Chopper coming onto screen with him wondering where Robin was was jolting enough to lock that scene into my brain. Good stuff

Since the original Shogun came out in 1980 and this is just a very good remake. Perhaps the better description would be "Game of Thrones is just Shogun in Westeros" especially since the novel Shogun was written in 1975 or about 30-40 years before Game of Thrones. The original show is how many fans of Japan, were introduced to the Isekai genre. And yeah, John Blackthorne gets Isekaied to Japan... food for thought. Also, the original was also done in Japanese and English, so even the concept of a dual language show isn't that revolutionary nor are sub-titles, it's been seen and been done, about 40+ years ago. Garnt, if your in-laws were recommending it, it is probably because they saw and loved the original in their youth. 😄 Shogun was a mega hit, mini-series in the 1980s, and I do mean MEGA, like nothing that has happened since then even comes close, "average of 32.9% of all television households watched at least part of the series." that's 32.9% of the US population, saw the original. Probably all of your parents saw it as well. 🤣
