Past Garnt: All bread tastes the same
Present Garnt: Light isn't real
Evolving backwards
In all fairness optics is a very complicated subject and there is no unified theory of light, there are four main theories but the quantum theory of light explains most phenomenons of light.
Also Garnt: Lightmode user
@@4tan730There's so much layers to Garnt's lunacy.
Since Garnt uses light mode... _is Garnt real?_
“As the only musician in the group”, says Joey, forgetting that Garnt was the lead guitarist of a band in high school.
Think we all forget that even when hearing it we just go “woah really? Had no idea that’s cool “

typical arrogance of Joey.
@@asuraXTCjacksepticeye is a drummer
To be fair, it get´s easily overshadowed by the fact that Garnt has worked in the BBC, you know what I mean?
Joey pulling his weight with his role play.
Joey: Light is a wave and a particle. Umbra, Penumbra, Antumbra.
Also Joey: So anyway, they landed on the moon at night, so why is the sun there.
This should have ended with Garnt saying "There is a theory that you guys died" and then it cuts to Garnt alone in the studio.
Connor saying, “Just don’t” in response to being asked why he doesn’t believe in parallel universes is quite possibly the most British reply to anything ever.
Pile of rubbish innit?
Connor speaks with some diction and confidence for his rebuttals, then Mudan just comes in and shows fact that he's completely wrong 😭
About the exposures and reflectiveness of the moon, conner wasn't wrong. Yeah the moon is not like the most reflective stuff (in fact it is least just like Earth) but it is reflective as much as earth is. That much reflection is enough for exposures. It is like they are standing day time portions of the moon. The sky is black because the moon doesn't have any atmosphere.
I'm the first one to clown Connor and his dumb takes, but he wasn't wrong there lol to begin with, the only reason we can clearly see the moon in the sky and also have something called "moonlight" is because the moon is reflecting sunlight lol that card felt more like a meme than an actual correction tbh
@@nadkudo1798yeah like the moon is not exactly reflective in the same vein as like idk snow or water or glass. But everything, every real object is reflective in some sense coz if they were not reflective then you won't be able to see it (like black holes). And courtesy of the moon being as massive as it is yes it's a very bright object he is correct. Idk if he explained it the best but he is correct
@@siliconhawk9293 Yeah, like light bounces off of everything. Some more than others and that's why we can even see anything at all. Like how lighting in a video game can make something look realistic even though the graphics without it looks quite dull. That's why ray tracing and similar technology exist.
I know Joey's been getting dunked on on the subreddit but I have to say out of all three he did the best job of trying to prove his conspiracy theories because he actually debated like someone who believes in them and actually brought some points that are semi convincing. I feel like Garnt and Connor really leaned in on the sarcastic and ironic side.
That's how I felt when I was forced to do debate in high school

Garnt's beef with light was the best part of this episode.

Farfetch'd is a pokemon which is based on a Japanese idiom "kamo ga negi wo shottekuru" which literally translates to "A duck approaches, carrying a leek on its back." It means an incredibly fortunate circumstance, since you've just come across a duck carrying ingredients that you can cook it with.

One thing to note is that we do actually have evidence that other particles work like light with wave-particle duality. We have observed electrons acting as waves and we actually have equations worked out to find the wavelength of any object based on mass and momentum called the de broglie wavelength. If you take a waves and particles class in college (generally the third class in the calculus-based physics series) you can get some explanation for some of the ways light and wave-particle duality works as well as how we have worked out the equations for things like the de broglie wavelength.

1:29:06 what i find funny is that in the original german version from the grimm brother the quote is "spiegelein, spiegelein an der wand" which, when translated word for word, means "mirror, mirror on the wall". Disney changed the phrase to something different but somehow everyone remembers the og version.
I'd love to see a part 2 of this, the boys makin shit up on the fly to support their theories is way too funny
As someone in physics, Joeys explanation of a photon absolutely killed me.
1) A photon is a particle, but the issue is that particles are not points, but rather energetic parts of a field, like how a wave is an energetic part of the sea.
2) This isn't unique to photons. All matter in the universe is a "particle and a wave" in the same sense as a photon.
3) Scientists definitely understand how it works. It's a very well defined concept. The explanations are just bad because you're trying to explain it by analogy.
4) Gravity effects light because it is the bending of space. Gravity doesnt only act on mass, but is the effect of other mass on the curvature of space, which light and matter move through.
🫡
So basically you’re saying it’s all made up
Shadows for Grant: When you stand in front of a light-bulb, you block the light thus casting a shadow behind you. But there's still light hitting that shaded spot be it light from the bulb bouncing off of the walls or from another light source. Now if something is in front of the light (that has bounced or from another light source), then now that light is blocked. Therefore now there is another shadow for the same reason as the first shadow. In other words less light bouncing off of the surface and into your eyes.
My take on deja vu:
You HAVE experienced it before, but that specific thing was on the edge of being forgotten, until you experienced something familiar, but since it's so close to being forgotten you end up not being able to attribute it to a solid memory
1:44:42 Also in Black and White, the ghost Pokémon Yamask's Pokédex entrys say

I was shocked when Garnt said he doesn't understand light, while having a masters in electrical engineering... also Joey's "explanation" of lights particle/wave duality.. it does fit the theme of trash taste though haha
Can you explain ?
@@ssengageisop3952 Visible light is a small part of the electromagnetic spectrum. All of light shares the same velocity, light speed or c, but they have differing wavelenghts. The wavelength determines what "type" of light it is, microwaves, wifi, radiowaves, x-rays, gammarays or plane old visible light are a few types we are familiar with. In other words, there is no difference between the wifi in your house or the light that comes out of a lamp other than their wavelenghts.
Light is both a wave and a particle, this is as far as we understand it. We know this because there are contradicting results from experiments. Some experiments show phenomena which could only occur if light was a wave, but we also see it do things that can only be described if light was a particle. Light isn't the only thing with wave-particle duality though. As an example electrons can behave like waves as well. Look up the "double slit experiment", this shows how both electrons and photons have wave like properties. But even you have a wavelength, but you're to big for it to matter. What Joey said about light having kinetic energy is true, but it's not due to it's mass, since it has no mass, it has to do with it's momentum. I don't know what he meant about waves not being affected by gravity, gravity is essentially curved space, so anything traveling through this curve would, you know, curve. The earth "thinks" it's moving in a straight line but it is trapped in our suns gravity well. Massive objects cause space to curve, if light travels past this object it has to follow that curved space around the object, if the object is too massive the light will circle around and finally it won't be able to escape, we call this a black hole.
This was long and not very clear so just ask again if you would like to know something specific about this.
mechanical engineering
@@clashwithkeen At least google before you try to correct someone. Garnt said he did a masters in electrical engineering and I believe Connor said he has a bachelors in mechanical engineering. Joey: Light is the only thing that acts as a particle and a wave.
No, everything does. It's just that the wavelength of macroscopic objects are so incredibly small that it doesn't matter most of the time.
The wavelengths of macroscopic objects is *large* not small when travelling with low velocities as compared to the speed of light. [λ=h/(mv)]
@@aryanpandey5017 no, because as demonstrated by the equation you sent, h/mv (de Broglie wavelength), the mass of an object is indirectly proportional to the wavelength. Also, we can think of some mass "m" of a macroscopic object and divide it to the value of h (Planck's constant) 6.636 x 10^-34 J s and you'll see that the value of the wavelength will still be an extremely small value.
@@jesther2575Besides that, the de Broglie equation doesn't even apply to anything bigger than an atom. It starts crumbling at a few hundred protons, so the wavelength of normal sized objects would probably be magnitudes smaller than what the equation would give us

It's just fun listening to these theories

I hope Wendigoon also get a guest episode
IF he comes to Japan
Wendigoon is so cool.
If they did that the episode would be watered down compared to the full iceberg series he has. 1 because it's obviously just too long to cover everything. 2 because even in the iceberg series itself wendigoon had to self-censor hundred and skip over multiple topics to avoid getting a strike on more "controversial" theories.
@@chadwickreno8499I don't think they would have him on since that would be too close to actually spreading misinformation. It's fun speculate, but misinformation is a big problem...
@@Steve-xo5pqI think he makes it pretty clear that he is just interested in the topics he talks about and his channel is not supposed to be taken as a genuine news source
I never thought I'd see a man get so agitated about light. 😂
Sick episode guys i just had a few comments on the light part.
1: It is not only light that has wave-particle duality, anything that has a momentum behaves as a wave, electrons, protons, and even humans if you want. This is the basic of QM, which is that particle behave as probabilistic waves, and they have a wavelength called the De Broglie wavelength. The Thomas Young double-slit experiment first showed wave-particle duality for light, but also for electrons.
2. Light both has mass and is affected by gravity. Mass is only an equivalent of momentum, you can take the simple equation for momentum being velocity times mass. Einstein's famous equation E=mc^2 tells us the energy-mass equivalence, and because light has energy, it also has mass.
This makes light both bend spacetime and both cause gravity and be affectes by it. Light being affected by gravity is called gravitational lensing, and was one of the first concrete pieces of evidence for General Relativity.
3. I just think you mixed them up, but the debate for waves and particle did not come from gravity and propagation in vacuum but rather from Electricity and Magnetism and newtonian physics. Maxwell's equation for E&M shows perfect behavior for light as a wave, and also gives an accurate representation of the constancy of the speed of light, which is one of the postulates of relativity. Light behaves as a wave propagating with electric and magnetic fields perpendicular to each other and the direction of propagation of the wave. Also, particles do travel in vacuum, we see it all the time with cosmic radiation, we thought waves needed a medium to propagate in. For example, sound waves need air to propagate. In space, there is no air, so there is no sound. The best piece of evidence for light being a particle is Einstein's photoelectric effect, which showed that the effect of light on a surface is proportional to the amount of photons( which is computes from the energy per photon, which we know). If light was a wave, the intensity(amplitude) of the wave would dictate the effect, but it didn't it was the "quantity of light".
The real answer is that all particles in the universe are both a wave and a particle, it is the uniform field theory.
Hope this was clear, if anyone has any questions i'll be glad to answer them, currently studying physics in uni and i'm very deep in quantum physics
I love connor just absolutely shutting down every mandela effect
“I don’t know music theory Joey” killed me
love how in a few min or so Garnt already started an argument on how light works
9:20 the neat thing about this is actually how shadows work on the moon, we have gradual shadows because our atmosphere scatters the light so even indirect light will make shadows less dark, while on the moon anything without direct sunlight is almost entirely black there's very little visibility
Joey: "Oh Curious George"

Explaining about the light has kinetic energy with no mass:
Light is pure kinetic energy because of lack of presence of matter in space. Lack of any matter means the lack of any potential energy. Everything electromagnetic field does in an empty space is pure kinetic energy. And electromagnetic field in empty space forms plane waves that propagate in an invariant velocity. Hence, potential energy is responsible for creating, absorbing and refracting light, but when light does not do any of these, it is purely kinetic energy. And that intensity in free space can influence slight enough movements.

that pikachu tail is crazy because when I was a kid I always drew pikachu and I vividly remember his tail having a black tip. One of the main reasons I learn how to draw is by tracing pokemon artbooks since 6 years old.
This was such a good episode. So entertaining
this is literally one of the best episodes of trash taste ever
There are a lot of interesting Pokemon Theories. That lore goes insanely deep. Pokemon have Infinity Energy and their HP and Attacks are just part of the Infinity Energy magic system. That's why they don't actually hurt each other in battles.
Also, I believe the Ho-Oh wish theory with Ash: That when he saw Ho-Oh in episode 1, his wish was granted (since the Pokedex says that's what Ho-Oh does), allowing Ash to adventure forever and ever. That's why time passes in some ways, like the one-year anniversary of the journey and Kukui's child, but their ages don't change.
And also also, people do canonically eat Pokemon 100%. Slowpoke tails are often described as a delicacy, and of course all the food Pokemon like Appletun are also referenced as being eaten by people.
And also also also, I think Joey switched the Pokemon = Humans theory accidentally. The theory says that people used to be the same as Pokemon, as a book in B/W states. However, they evolved to be different from Pokemon and can't use (except psychics and the like) Infinity Energy anymore, so they can't go into pokeballs either. Btw, Pokemon apparently have the innate ability to shrink to fit inside pokeballs, as is states in Legends Arceus. I guess that's another part of the whole Infinity Energy thing.
So yeah, Pokemon theories and lore are crazy when you get into it.
What about why Ash got pikachu? Prof Oak time travelled with celebi and became friends with ash and pikachu.
My favorite conspiracy is that Stevie wonder isn’t blind.

Haven’t gotten 5 minutes in and already I know this will go down as one of the most frustrating episodes to listen to😂😂
It’s not that deep, I promise.
nah it was good
As someone who has studied a decent amount of physics, yes it was very painful to hear their "physics" explanations XD
Frustrating if you take everything seriously. With the amount of preface they do everytime, i don't really know why people still try and find holes in their arguments (especially academic related ones)
@@hololovesapples8979yup but it is difficult for people to not take them seriously. It is human nature to be like it
@hololovesapples8979 while I do agree they shouldn't be damned for saying stuff that's flat out wrong most of the time. I do think it's fun as well as often informative for people in the comments to explain, 'Hey, you guys talked about this. This is how it actually works or how we understand it!' I love that!
Man as a chemical engineering student who’s taken 3 years of thermo hearing entropy is chaos hurts my soul a bit
this episode was so fun I really enjoyed it
Joey: "Who's going to the moon and writing C on a rock?"
Me: "C Dawg VA on the moon confirmed"
garnt: masters in eng
also garnt: i don't understand how light works
he was clearly born in the shadows while we merely adopted it
I love Garnt's "I wonder how it would be if the theory started in the time of the internet", just gotta look at that one weird "Avril Lavigne" theory saying she has been replaced by some girl called Melissa or whatever it was ^^
I'd definitely love a Part 2 .. this wasn't enough !!
The MVP of this episode was Mudan, the fact-checker.
The alien conspiracy section convinced me that the boys would absolutely love the Three Body Problem.
49:42 this is why I deny this theory , the national British history museum would of got it first
As a music and Pokémon fan, the last 3 were a blast! Would like to see what a Part 2 would include 😊
I love joeys way of presenting the theorys he just says them as fact like most the people who actually believe them do
Regarding quotes like “think mark think” and “Luke I am your father” it’s more that people added those because those are more recognizable with the names and it began becoming more spread than the original.
The Ash coma theory came from Ash being caught in that explosion in episode 1, aka a thing caused by a Pokémon against other Pokémon. So the fact Ash is from the real world isn’t part of the theory. And the whole book thing that Joey said wasn’t even part of that one library.
As someone who loves to get frustrated by conspiracy therories.. my favorite word is, Paredolia. The tendency to see patterns in meaningless random noise.
Man, I was hoping Joey would go for the Kurt Cobain theory. That one's way more of a conversation starter.
Cobains death Its not so much a conspiracy theory because there is a huge amount of evidence that he was murdered. Many people including myself believe he was murdered by Love for his fortune and there is a huge number of facts to back it up.
I remember doing a report on that in High School and it does hold some water no doubt, but I think I would avoid exploring that one on a public show like this out of respect for his surviving daughter tbh.
