As someone who has delivered lost luggage - Sometimes it's better to FedEx your luggage. They have better support and are delivery experts. Don't deal with the incompetent airport staff.
Oh no, don't trust us. As a FedEx employee I can say for certain that you shouldn't trust us. Every day we lose shit because it is obscenely damaged because they are overworking the package handlers (the very base level employees) and demanding they blitz through trucks as fast as possible.
Yep. Worked in a shipping dept for a large corp. Never lost anything with bonded and insured freight.
Although sometimes people would ship stuff that way and then not tell us, and not leave a reference in the paperwork.
It's pretty obnoxious to receive an 800lb pallet, and have to keep it in storage for a month cuz it doesn't say who ordered it. Then someone comes storming in demanding it and telling us nobody informed them it came. "well, if you had put your name on this, we'd have told you when it arrived. Do you have a tracking number, or reference for it? No? Of course you need us to find an unidentifiable shipment right now. Oh you don't actually have anywhere to put it? Then why the hell did you order this thing you don't have room for and don't seem to care about?"
Or if they have no trust in either fedex or the airline. Just give the equioment seats
As someone who has worked with teams who have filmed internationally I can confirm. Better off mailing your thousands of dollars of equipment out ahead of you insured. Even with a customs delay it will be less risky than flying with it.
Well, they are more used to the good customer service
It felt like Garnt himself was the guest in this episode. 10\10
As someone who worked in convenience stores for many years in the past, I feel compelled to point out that the state of customer service in the US mirrors how badly customer service reps are treated. I've been beaten to temporary disfigurement, struck in the head with a bottle of alcohol, held at gunpoint and threatened so many times with physical violence that I've lost track of every instance it occurred.
Too many people in the US have come to see retail workers as punching bags for their frustrations. Retail workers themselves are usually underpaid, overworked and readily discarded by their employers. And the result is an apathetic, jaded work force that has come to reflect how they are treated.
Really sorry to hear that. Hope you have a good day today, at least.
This is what I came to say. Customer service is a reflection of customer base. And the customer base in the US are in general, assholes. That poor lady had no power over the system, but guarantee she had at least a dozen people that day acting like she personally lost their bags.
Tbh this whole tangent of "oh my god I feel so bad for the way she treated me" just sounds so weird, surely these guys have worked atleast once in the service industry and understand how shit it is. I don't understand why people expect someone that is paid minimum wage to go out of their way to to them favours like they're special
And to answer to that is Garnt is ACCUSTOMED with the polite and customer-first Japanese level customer service, so being treated like shit on the first flight to America was both a cultural shock plus depressing experience for him. Try to view it from his POV, and not from the customer service worker.
And even if the customer service worker is being treated unfairly in the first place, it gives the worker NO rights to treat an innocent customer unfairly. It just solidifies the notion that Americans, at least the said industry, lacks professionalism and are barbaric in nature. And tbh, that's neaderthalism is showing. Luckily, as an Asian, I can't share the sentiment because genetics, yeah.
@@AstaNozan Bringing genetics into the conversation is really odd.

I really like Connor bringing up how the logistics of next day delivery on Amazon can be pretty fucked in the states. I've heard so many horror stories of Amazon delivery drivers being sleep deprived, peeing in bottles to save time, going on insane routes. All for the convenience of having something the next day.
I feel like this is why I really love hearing Connor's point of view on the pod (even tho he can be really monke brain sometimes). But I feel like he has a really good understanding of how things work logistically, even if he can't always explain it correctly
My bf works for Amazon and they have to pee in bottles. He got an angry text from his manager with a bunch of other drivers in a group message. They were mad that the drivers were disposing of the bottles on the Amazon site. They knew they were peeing in bottles and were mad they didnât dispose of their piss bottle at a random trash can. They arenât upset their drivers have to literally piss in the van, but instead upset that the bottles are thrown away at the warehouse because they think itâs gross lmfao
Yes! Esp bc the expectation to get next day delivery for a massive country like the US is not realistic. Japan and the UK are so much smaller in area.
@@emperortea2061 WTF
I enjoyed the conversation, but was surprised that no one brought up just how big America is compared to England or Europe. It just means that products get spread out more, creating an even bigger logistical problem when it comes to delivery.
I live in Chicago and I get one day delivery for free (never use it tho since I never have to urgently need things to be here tomorrow). I think it is likely that the products they were trying to order is located in warehouses elsewhere (east coast for example) hence the extra cost associate with one day shipping.

It may sound crazy, but after I've had my luggage lost a few times, I always make it a point to put a Tile tracker in there. Makes me feel slightly more comfortable knowing where it is. The cool thing is there isn't a monthly payment so I can always leave it in my travel bag. It doesn't prevent the airlines from screwing up and losing it, but it gives me peace of mind. (If you do decide to do this, make sure to get the model where you can replace the battery inside. I do this every time before I get on a flight just to guarantee the battery is full).

Ever since they explained the Japanese thing of verbalizing the fact that you're actively listening during a conversation, I've noticed that Joey does it too and I can't unhear it now.
Edit: yes, I realize most people around the world do this to some degree. It's just that Japanese people tend to be among those who do it most frequently. The bois have talked about how it was a somewhat jarring adjustment to make after moving to Japan.
Which part was it at
@@urokusaki6143 There's no specific time, you just have to pay attention to when other people are talking and Joey in the background verbalizing that he is listening with hums and repeating words or phrases that Garnt or Connor ends with.
Examples:
(3:00)

Then Joey makes an sound of agreement to the statement
(3:09)
G: "...and already alarm bells were ringing,"
J: "yeah"

As someone who works in the hospitality industry in the UK, I hear the kinds of experiences Garnt went through every day from guests checking in the hotel. The issue is that most UK airports decided to straight up fire their staff during covid with little to no payment and an overall horrible treatment. Now that the country is opening up, with the news of how badly they treated their employees, no one wants to work for them, and because unemployment is higher due to covid - as well as more staff being needed to cover the busy summer season - there are so many positions that no one has to compromise by working at the airports. The end result is that the airports are understaffed at the busiest time of year. And during the Fringe and all the music festivals in August it will be even worse. The same thing happened to me while getting a flight to Egypt, which due to delays stacked on delays, and missed connections because of delays, I ended up arriving a day and a half later than planned. Regarding their complaint that the airlines don't give any information or care about resolving issues, what most people don't know is that airlines have nothing to do with luggage. All that is managed by the airport. But the customers get angry at the airlines because they don't know any better. So the staff are pretty jaded from getting yelled at every day by 10 different people over the mistake of some airport in some other country.
Honestly, as a person who live in Bali where tourism is our life, that's pretty fucked up. In here most of worker at least getting compensation from their job or still working but using shift due less of tourist.
So now that tourist is back, we don't have problem with staffs at all
really frustrating that they would rather do that than just pay better.
The thing is, they didn't pay the airport - they paid the airline. It is the responsibility of the airline to get their stuff where it needs to be on time.
@@MyVanir Whoever's responsibility it might be, it's the airport that handles it.
So fucking happy hearing the wedding story after the pain of the airport story. Truly a rollercoaster of emotions for Mr Grant.
Amazon in the us depends on how close you are to a fulfillment center. By me with prime almost everything is next day. Only reason you can't do that everywhere here is because of the size of the land. There is too much space to be able to cover next day shipping everywhere. When you're in a country like japan or the uk one fulfillment center can cover a MUCH larger area(by population anyway) giving everyone access to next or even same day shipping.

With the lost baggage, find out which company is in charge of the baggage handling at the airport of destination and contact them directly. Airlines are also waiting for them to be updated. The baggage handling is often a seperate company and send you the baggage directly, once found. Depending on the t&c, a lot of insurances consider the baggage officially âlostâ after a certain amount of time. Considering the value of the contents and its checked in with other baggage, i assume its has extra insurances. So, could be time to file the claim.
there was a strike so I doubt they will know.
Lolno. Airlines and baggers just tell you "lol cope + mald + L + git gud". Have a good day, adios, do not call us! Ta ta!
"They do talk about it acutally, they're like: Be ashamed." Connor is very right on that, though I guess the way we learn about German History here is that I never had the understanding that Germany is a young country, rather a very old one that had just a fuck ton of changes to it's geography and naming and stuff. Also, do believe me that we really do talk about our history a lot, especially in school. basically from 7th or 8th grade onwards WW2 is like almost the only subject in history lessons
Maybe the UK should take a page out of Germanyâs book. Theyâve done some equally fucked up shit in their colonies and pretend like it never happened. What a bunch a hypocrites (not the boys, the uk government in general)
Yeah, although I feel like Germans are becoming less and less shamed over time.
The younger generation can even joke about WWII now
All of that is totally true. Also, my hometown was founded on the limes so we started our lessons of German history during the Roman Empire - I could never think of Germany as a young country.
@@balabanasireti Should modern day Germans be ashamed? They were just born in a country where horrible things happened in the past. They literally did nothing wrong, at least pertaining to WW2.
Learning about your country 's history and feeling ashamed are two very different things.
@@destituteanddecadent9106 I mean we just still kind of have that whole collective guilt thing going on.I don't feel responsable for what happend decades before my time but I feel we are definetly ashamed of what generations before us did but we can joke about it because it is our history. obviously we don't joke about the victims of the whole thing but about the stupidity and the idiocity that is nazi germany. I think it is important to know and to understand that part of our history and therefore be humble about our nation today as i feel these days the line between patriotism and terrible nationalism is incredibly thin.

I've worked 3 years for an airport in my country. I can guarantee you your luggage wasn't lost but stolen.
"Missing luggage" is a well-estabilished lango for "the client's luggage was violated/stolen and we'll get into less trouble if we say it's missing".
That's really fucked.
The only thing I'd add is the part where it might be genuinely lost is that many jobs were cut during the pandemic and although travel is approaching pre-pandemic levels, I doubt staffing is and there's a big brain drain from pandemic layoffs, which would lead to way less people being skilled, trained, and experience.
That's a perfect storm for not enough resources to handle demand and higher than normal odds that luggage got backed up somewhere.
Not high odds, but higher odds than pre pandemic perhaps.
It's a genuine shitshow at EU airports right now though.
@@dykam I don't even think it's just in Europe, I live in the states, but my parents were on a trip to Europe, their flight was delayed several times, not to mention based on Ryan trahans surviving on a penny for 30 days challenge he got delayed for his flight to north Carolina, showing issues involving not even crossing into another country but even just state to state, it's just currently like a huge issue everywhere based on comments but I haven't done all that much research into it.
I've worked 6+ years in an international Airport and I can guarantee it's neither lost nor stolen. Most cases deals with poor staffing and training practices. It's usually sitting in a bagroom that hasn't been checked yet or staff waiting for you to open a claim to make sure they send it to the correct location.
Stealing is more prevalent in countries that are better known for not being as secure in general. It's all on a case by case basis though at the end of the day.

I would also ship it by a different method such as couriered packages rather than as luggage. Someone could be in LA to receive the equipment
As an international student who travels back and forth between Mumbai and New York, words cannot describe how relatable garntâs entire airport experience made me feel, especially the fucking looks of disappointment from some of the staff at the U.S airports.
Wdym 'looks of disappointment' ?
@@avinashprasad2535 I could kind of add to this, as my family and I would always leave and enter LAX both domestically and internationally.
Mainly domestic, every time we had an issue/needed help, it was almost guaranteed the people behind the desk or people managing bags would just roll their eyes or go from normal face to annoyed face, and just be all-around hard to work with. Even recently since I moved out of LA I flew in to be with my family and the person helping me check in my bag, just asked how theyâre day was going and he paused, looked up at me, shook his head and never replied to me after that.
Damn
I would recommend getting an airtag or something similar and putting it in your bag so you can track where it's at in case the airline says something like "we don't know where it is" or "it's not at our airline"
Iâm only half way through this episode and itâs already in my top 3 episodes. So wholesome...Iâm so happy for Garnt and Sydney :)
Bro I love how I can literally hear demon dice going "I fucked up man" lmao
I'm also tearing up, cause of garnts wholesome wedding stories
Really really happy for him
Garnt: Iâm only going to have one wedding
Also Garnt:
Congratulations Garnt. So happy I started watching this podcast and getting to know the trash bois. I'm tearing up hearing about your wonderful wedding.
Meilyn with the Tequila just gives colombian uncle vibes, they be going around the party with like 3 shot glass and a bottle of aguardiente asking people to join them for a shot
She is not just their manager she is also their mom too đ€Łwhich makes it even funnier
Is more of a paisa mom that wants their kids to join because they are MAN
I can relate đ
Connor, in line at the DMV: "Now THIS is authentic"
Garnt needs to put that bank statement in the wedding album, holy fuck that is a hilarious story.
Funny how near the end, Connor was trying to essentially sell Wales as a tourist attraction lol
Also Garnt, don't forget to backup your hard drive
Man, hearing about the Guts theme schenanigans, it's so clear that she's the one. Great catch, Garnt.
I thought the Guts theme was the song from 90s American game show Guts
After hearing that dumpster fire of a story about their lost gear I truly hope they 1: Get their gear back and 2: Learn to use an actual freight company with specific infrastructure to get valuables from A to B rather than using airline check in. Especially when you're travelling between two of the most busiest/chaotic international airports in the world. Not blaming Garnt on this one, Wouldn't it be Meyline's job to organise the logistics for the boys' travel? Surely they have the budget to get insured fedex delivery from the UK to the US for $50k worth of kit.
Thatâs the way to do it with that much equipment.
guess they r too trusting
I think the boys and Meyline are too used to Japan standards or something. I also think this is their first big shift with lots of travel so they didn't think it'd go so wrong. Definitely will probably do what you said from now on though.
When youâre traveling with almost $50k worth of equipment, you definitely need to have a better way to ship all that stuff to another country đ They were definitely too trusting with the airlines, but hopefully they had insurance just in case any of that equipment is lost or damaged.
Also, traveling via air to the US right now is very expensive and overcrowded. Not to mention theyâre struggling with staff shortages and cancellations. Itâs just a recipe for a disaster to happen.
I keep listening to this because the outside perspective of America is refreshing to hear that Iâm not crazy and the happy wedding highs are very infectious.
This is THE BEST sounding wedding ever. So many highlights so many side stories.
Trash Taste Podcast have achieved so much in the last 2 years. Congratz bois. Congratz Garnt on the wedding. Looking forward to the tour and the american leg of Trash Taste~!!
For some reason when I read that, I mixed âCongratzâ and âGarntâ together, and I saw âGantz.â

My weddingâs break the tension moment was when my husband had to check that he had turned off his cell phone when one of the officiants (the cantor specifically) stated âWe invite you at this time to join us in the ancient Kabbalistic wedding ritualâŠand silence your cell phones!â
as someone who works at a wedding venue, september is almost ALWAYS the hype song at a wedding hehe
Seems like Garnt always have to face tough airline or banking situations involving "no, no, no,".. He faces them with a lot of dignity though
Conner is a history buff?? Dude I'd LOVE to have a history chat with Conner man, that sounds so interesting!
Connor: "I got out of the car and I was wearing a hat." Also Connor: never mentions the hat again.
It was his reasoning as to why Garnts dad didn't recognize him immediately
Chekhovâs hat but it doesnât go off
Jan is a wizard, master of charisma and disappearing acts
Dear Connor, Joey and Garnt
I don't really mind if this is buried amongst the comments, but
Hearing you talk about history and being genuinely interested brings me more joy than you could possibly understand. I'm grateful for your tangent on linguistics and the fascinating things countries have existed through. I specialise in ancient history, the Romans, the Greeks and so on, but I adore history of all kinds because its wonderful to learn about the people that have come before. My love for British history had been partially shattered after secondary school, but hearing you all talk about history reminded me of my own passions and I am finally understanding a lot of things. I've watched all three of you for a very long time and of course all the way through trash taste. I sincerely hope I get to meet you all one day to thank you in person.
Its sad that joey is overlooking the tens of thousands of years of aboriginal australian histroy which has some of the most deep and interesting heritage and culture in the world, so id look into that aswell
@@ander5917 Yes, when I was younger I was very interested in aboriginal culture, practices and history. A real shame more is not known about it, and much of it is hidden by colonialism.
Now i want to hear Sydney telling her side of the story. Time for the second Sydney interview!
Oh boy the Aer Lingus arc is in this episode. Cant wait for the Connor salt
The luggage is still missing?
This is insane đ€Ż
â@@indie_fan69 unfortunately yes and now they've resorted to blocking replies and hiding the existing ones calling them out, really pathetic
@@twilight625 I guess air ligma donât want their costumers lol
@@indie_fan69 most of their twitter replies are just angry customers who lost their baggage. It's insane.
@@monogamousmatt546 And their newer tweets just straight up block replies lol.
For years I've been looking for a podcast i like and after watching about 4 of these i think I've finally found it
Hearing the wedding story actually made me tear up. Major Congrats to you Garnt.
That reminds me, Mr & Mrs Gigguk changed their twitter pfps into Oreimo ones around the time when they officially tied the knot.
Which kinda brings their relationship full circle, in a way.
glad we've finally got the Aer Lingus story straight from the boys even though the situation sucks
Complaining about "America".... but Aer Lingus is an Irish airline
@@christopherpaikall their staff at the airport must be Irish as well
@@christopherpaik Do i sense a salty American?
Yup itâs a shame that they are letting ppl down and Iâm an Irish
@@christopherpaik Oh yes how can we be so blind? all of that people who worked for AerDingus in "Murica" is definitely Irishman right? there's no way!
(legit, as someone who worked in customer service for a long ass time... we start off caring about customer service. but we just give up eventually because it will break you emotionally.
its sort of a requirement to literally turn off your emotions to work customer service or youll either get fired for matching the customers energy, or you quit cus youre too depressed to keep going

You have sold me on Wales. I love nature and love getting away from large cities. Having basically nothing but nature sounds fantastic lol
Rumor has it that it was once called "The Trash Taste Wedding Arc"
The thing about next day delivery in America is that the distances needed to be crossed are massive. Meaning that the cost to fuel the trucks, trains, planes or boats transporting the products; then getting it to your house or place of residence in one day is a tall order.
I caught up to this episode while skipping 80% of the collab episodes and now I'll binge them all. I feel like it will be weird watching the bois on their own again after hours of guests lmao
This set up looks soothing in the eyes đ„ș Congrats to Garnt and Sydney â€ïžâš
just hearing the story of garnts wedding really puts a smile on my face. especially hearing about him and his boys and how they hype him up and just know what to do with the whole eva celebration is just so good. only 19 years old and just imagining his wedding is like making me look forward to if i ever get married. :,)
have Meilyne check the local craigslist, she might find your "lost" equipment there. it happens all the time
Daym
rewatching and hearing Garnt's story again about him and Sydney's wedding, I got more encouraged on planning my wedding some day to have Kataware Doki from your name to play once my partner comes in
31:16 this is really true. i live in the midwest, and in the downtown area there are very few places to walk and the moment you get to the suburbs, there are barely any sidewalks. the area where i live in only has one sidewalk and the rest is just grass and all that. unfortunately the US is car dependent so most of it isn't barely walkable. not to mention that there are streets where you have to cross busy 4 or 6 lane roads and you're at risk for getting hit. on top of all that, in Houston they're tearing down buildings and schools and houses for more highways, so yeah. :(
I was tearing up when hearing Garnt talk about his wedding, honestly just happy for both of you!
Man Garnt is genuinely the luckiest guy of all time having Sydney as his wife, joey and connor as his boisss and of course having me as his fan.
Connor mentioning borough market, led me to google it. And some memories came back, from when i visited london as a teen đđ Also all the wedding stories were so wholesome. i totally vibe with Joey just needing to bust it down on the dance floor â
I have Connorâs same problem, I love learning history and studying it, but itâs so hard to actually find a part to dive deep into because you want to do that for everything. Itâs all so fascinating.
