It's an Audi, That's why. Also material (paint, primer and reforement of the bumper), business upkeep costs (Utilities, building space) and labor costs are very expensive. So it affects the price of the repair. The dealer damaged my SUVs plastic skid plate a little over two years ago and just to replace the part it cost the dealer $1,500 parts and labor. All for a plastic cover they damaged and its a Kia Sorento not an Audi.
On a tesla this would be $37000 or a total loss.
There's also the possibility of damage we can't directly see, since that's just the bumper cover which on some cars is pretty flexible.

There's a hierarchy of safety during the holiday season. It's way safer to travel by plane than to drive on the highways. It's way safer to drive on the highways than to drive in your average mall parking lot (gotta love those frantic shoppers). Me? Other than my ten minute commute to work, I plan to stay in bed. Barring a meteor strike I think that's the safest place to ride out the commercial season.

@@nnediamaster Flashing yellow indicates caution should be used. It's often treated as equivalent to a yield sign, because that's what it means. No part of "yield" or "caution" means "drive at highway speed without being prepared to stop for vehicles in the intersection". I don't know why it's scary to think that people might want to be cautious when they're literally being told it's appropriate to use caution.

Me too. I used to handle personal auto claims and I hated them and uninsured drivers. They have a million excuses but can't admit fault.

I mean OTOH, sure you could chase the offender but only for a few seconds just to get the license plate and just leave it to the cops, especially even if you drive for Uber, because expect a form of hit-and-run like this to occur.

@@demianreith8719 Yes, and that would make perfect sense except that’s not always the case. In some cases we’ve seen the police not pursue a case because they can’t see the drivers’ face and can’t tell if it was actually the owner of the vehicle or not. This happens even when the dashcam footage is added to the report and the plate is visible (assuming they’re also not stolen plates).
There’s a lot of variables.

4:42 I grew up in that area, the traffic on that road is always backed up there (NB GA 92 @ US 278). There's a lot of intersections and parking lot entrances there, so I can somewhat understand why that guy darted out. It's really poorly designed (if at all), but nothing has ever been done about it since I've been aware of the problem
Clip 1, speaking from driving a lot of rural driving. The flashing light inticates traffic present at a blind intersection, at least in my area
Also, she had an opportunity to slow down for this. Yeah, it's the Yukons fault but still. You drive like everyone else is incompetent. Slow down on intersections.
In my area the lights blink continuously, traffic or not. It's just a warning there is an intersection ahead.

Watching 'idiots in cars' makes me more cautious about my own driving habits
Remember ,your dash cam can work for you or against you. If you realize you were at fault and delete the video, you can be charged with destroying evidence . Police can also get a warrant for your video if there is evidence on it to prove a crime of accident even if you weren't involved . Your camera is a witness and a far better one than human eyes
As a Yukon Driver has been sideswiped by a Yukon driver and 1 year and a half later rear ended by another yukon driver, Yukon drivers are crazy distracted drivers

There seems to be a growing number of people who have time to submit their videos to the channel, but don’t have time to give it to those involved. I’m sure the drivers in #2 would have liked it for their insurance claim. The moral thing for the channel to do would be not feature videos where the dashcam driver left without offering assistance.
I 💯 agree with you. I have provided my dashcam video to 3-4 people to make their insurance claim easier. To give #2 benefit of the doubt, I think stopping on a highway at night is really dangerous. I had to stop once because I ran over something and it was scary af.
@@siamimam2109 They were on the offramp though. Pull up in front of the other cars, write your number down and hand it to the guy who got hit. Takes under a minute.

I got footage of my coworker in a collision in the parking lot and simply forgot I had the camera until after I was heading home. Gave her the footage days later that she used in her insurance claim. It’s fairly easy to forget in the moment that you have a camera, I was more concerned about her, her car, and my ability to get out of the parking space I was in given the collision being directly behind my car.
@@katiewennerberg210 The difference there is that you checked on and assisted your coworker, then when you realized you had helpful footage, you gave it to her. You did the right thing.
Some other people will hit the record button and keep on going because they captured something cool to put on CZcams. But they won’t actually help or provide it to the people involved.

Ugh true! I’m 5’1”, it was awful driving my old car. New one has a telescoping steering wheel which is seriously a game changer for me! I sit farther from my wheel than my tall boyfriend sits from his 😂

From the first clip. It seems as Kaya had time to avoid the GMC that cut in front of her. The GMC was moving for about 3 seconds. It appears that her speed remained constant.

3:45 if Honda was paying more attention they probably could have avoided the collision by breaking I see this thing happen all the time so I'm always on the lookout for it it has saved me quite a few times just to pay attention

#4 is exactly what I did after a word vs word collision I had years ago. The other guy's vehicle was worse off though. Mine was mostly fine, while his had a complete imprint of where he hit my front wheel and fender on the side of his fresh off the lot car.
Torque Pro actually is great to use with an old phone for this purpose. It'll connect to a bluetooth OBD adapter, allowing you you to see stats of your vehicle, and there's an add-on that will record your drive using your phone as a dashcam. You can also set it up to delete footage after a certain amount of time so that your phone doesn't fill up.
Many of those accidents would have been avoided with the use of roundabout.

I live in the Worcester, MA area. That exit is notorious for last minute exiters. Not uncommon for a cop to be parked on that area where the accident happens from how often people cut in there.

You mentioned useing a cell phone as a dashcam, there are numerous decent Dashcam apps available on both Google Playstore and Apple app Store. A good, solid mount, and an older phone with a decent camera, plus maybe adding a decent capacity SD card, makes a great alternative, though its best not to leave them up when not in use (to deter people attempting to break in and steal the phone). Add the fact that almost all smart phones have Blutooth, the easiest option to transfer video files, and virtualy everyone has an affordable option, at least until they can replace with a good quality dedicated Dashcam.

I’m not seeing a lot of comments about the 4Runner clip so I’ll clarify as a fellow owner of an 05 Runner. The 4th generation 4Runner has a bit of a cult following from those who have or do own them. They are solid cars that will run forever as long as they are maintained and not smashed into. Also they are hecka fun to drive literally anywhere
Facts!
Before I was retired medically from driving for a living I used an old Galaxy Lite as a dash camera. I was surprised at how clear the license plates were of passing vehicles. I had it save everything to a Micro SD Card and found a couple of apps that would record in segments.
One day at the main terminal in the cafeteria sorting out the videos and a company big wig asked me what was I doing. I showed him a couple of videos of me being cut off by stupid 4-wheelers and each time he jumped back.

The submission at #3 was oddly similar to what happened to me. Though in this case I was trying to turn into a double yellow median in Mualdin SC and never saw the Mercedes illegally driving down it until it slammed into me. Oddly enough the woman's son came up pretty quick and said my car was ok as he was a mechanic (no the frame was bent). Though idk why but I got cited failure to yield despite them driving down a lane they're only supposed to use for turning. Maybe it was because two cars were letting me out since it was a highway?
The mechanic son couldn't possibly tell if your car was ok or not by just quickly eyeballing it. I sure wouldn't want him to work on my car.

It is always your fault if you are going across lanes from a driveway or side street if you are not at a controlled intersection. It doesn't matter if vehicles stopped to let you cross.
I don't know about the laws in the US, but here in Germany, the right of way extends across the whole street. That is especially bothersome when try to turn right, you check if everything is clear and then someone starts to overtake on the street coming from the right. The overtake was illegal, but the crash is still your fault. The guy might get partial fault because he was going way too fast, bit still... 😕

The pillars are a massive blind spot. It's on the driver to look around it.
It's easily possible an approaching cars speed in relation to your own could keep them behind the pillar.

Drove thru kansas the other day, it was CRAZY, sliding all over the road, snow and ALOT OF IT TOO, ended up slowing us down to arround 45 mph luckily it will most likely be better this time lol

I heard that Six Flags Great Adventure is a very big park to go to and I suggest anyone that goes to it a lot of time should get a season pass! Season Passes like the Dimond Passes are very expensive but if you get them during a sale you will be all set. With the Dimond pass you can go to all Six Flags parks around the country.

There are also Dashcam apps for your phone if you don't want to record one big clip of each journey. I used to use one on my android phone. Did most of the functionality of a dashcam unit at a fraction of the cost.
#13 - Don't be a "nice" person and let cars pass through a stopped line of cars. If the "turner" can't be smart enough to go right then make a U turn, it's their problem. All you succeed in doing is suckering them into an unsafe maneuver into traffic they cannot see.
I only give enough room for them to get in front of me going the same direction.
Looked at the dash cam that you linked immediately was like nope that's way too expensive do you have any recommendations for more realistic and affordable priced dash cams
#8 - I had a 2007 Impala that was slow-motion t-boned in 2019. It had 180K miles on it and was still in great shape. I was getting ready to buy new tires for it when it was T-boned. No, I didn't want to buy a new car and tried to get it fixed. Her insurance company totalled it when it was discovered the frame was bent. If you have a car that is paid for and runs well, why would you want to take the excuse of an accident to "upgrade". That means car payments or taking money from savings, if you have it. I try to keep all of my cars to at least 200K. (The SUV I bought after the Impala was totalled only has 60K on it. I plan on keeping it for years.)
