    With all the amps around these days I still go back to the boosted Marshall sound. It is just perfect for thrash.

      I've been working on voicing a jcm800 inspired preamp which a tight overdrive/boost in the first gain stage to mimic that sound but with all tube distortion. Super fun to play especially at lower volumes. Scoop it out and it's early metallica!

    I always do this. The boosted Marshall tone with an EQ is my favorite tone of all time.

    Great boosting with Eq7 ! This pedal and Fulltone OCD are the greatest choises for boost any old school Marshall

    That's exactly how I did it back in the mid eighties on mine..50 watt jcm 800..worked just fine..nobody even suggested it to me it just popped into my head as I already had a. Ge7 when I bought my half stack and needed more gain.

    Been using this pedal since the early 80’s. Never fails. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

  • @johnsguitarmusicanddemos

    It sounds awesome with the boost!

    that ESP :) interesting video, I never used an EQ pedal as a boost but it sounds good

      You will hear somewhat more clarity in the notes/strings/definition than when using an overdrive. At least to my ear. Although, both methods sound very good and juicy.

    That was standard back in the 80’s and 90’s! I always dug using one or a preamp to boost the input.... 👍

    Nothing more except:
    1. Killer Airwolf shirt... damn :)
    2. Have you ever tried the new Sparkle Drive from Voodoo Labs ? I mean the newer model with the rotary switch? I have both the old and the new but the new one is something else... I've had 808s, keeley's, sd-1s and other stuff and this one is the tightest and most articulate one yet. I am currently boosting my 5150 with it but it works well with my other rig (2204) as well.

    Noiccccce, what if you use this pedal to boost your MT-2 as another boost into the Plexi??

  • @underpressureman
    @underpressureman Před 6 lety +1

    As an engineer myself I know this may be a dumb question, byt on the mxr 10-band eq's that have the volume and the gain sliders, is the volume just the input volume and the gain the output volume?

    • @montag4516
      @montag4516 Před 5 lety

      Yes. It's an active pedal. Both the Volume and Gain controls allow for either boosting or cutting, same as for each eq band. Center detent for each slider is unity gain. Very useful for shaping/balancing in and out levels as well as frequency shaping..

    and if I low the gain control. Do I get the opposite effect? sweep with the distortion and clean a little?

    I enjoy Always your great videos Lasse, one simple question, sorry if I'm to novice, boosted in the input of the amp or ge7 in the fx loop? , best regards

      Thanks!
      This was using the ge7 as a boost (in front)

  • @SluggerStark
    @SluggerStark Před 6 lety

    I used to boost the front end of my recto and jcm 800 2210 like this and it was killer! The revelation came 2004 when I bought a VHT Pittbull UL; no boost needed on that metal monster. :)

    • @LasseLammert
      @LasseLammert  Před 6 lety

      SluggerStark that’s one amp I could never get warm with. Was lacking the fast palm mute tracking and some high presence sizzle for my taste.
      But I agree, it doesn’t need a boost

  • @MrJeffwards

    What’s the story behind that ESP? Haven’t seen any of the old “ESP”/non “E-II” vintage black standards double bound like that one. LOVE/NEED one!

    Lasse, do you remember what king of eq did you use on the jcm?

  • @rockstaradventures1
    @rockstaradventures1 Před 4 lety

    the GE7 just boosts the volume, not much as far as tightening the amp. sounds still a bit muddy as it did before the EQ pedal.

  • @MegaWumba
    @MegaWumba Před 4 lety +1

    Used an eq as a boost for my Mode Four. Made it sound 10000000 times better!

    not a fan of that pick attack. still prefer real tubescreamer more. nowadays you can get by with a seymour duncan 805 and dial three bands as you like.

    The pedal is for your bedroom playing. Sound like shit at real volume. That amp sounds glorious cranked up in a ware house or real room.
