  • First I gotta say sorry for all the coughing and clearing my throat, I should have waited and done this video when I'm well again...then again I just had the time and wanted to procrastinate from mixing, so there you have it ;)
    aaaanyywaaay, here's one of my favourite boosts ever and how I set it up as a clean boost to kick any low or high gain amp into kickass modern metal territory.
    playing is random and shite, but who cares.... ;)

    I been using this for years and people told me it was dumb lol. It’s amazing how effective it is as a boost. Thanks for the video and showing us how you utilized it.

    that was brilliant, thank you. Reminded me that Kirk Windstein has been doing this to his Randalls for years. Sounds great!

    YES!!! I have been preaching about the Metal Zone's mid frequency knob thing for years and this is the first time I have seen someone properly demonstrate it. AWESOME!

    I love the MT2 as a boost into my Peavey Triple X, but usually just tweaked the mid on my amp and kept the mid knobs of the MT2 on 12 o' clock. Somehow I never thought of actually using the MT2 to cancel out a specific frequency. Thanks for sharing Lasse!

    mt2 is very underrated as a boost. I also like using my modded one as a distortion, super thick tone through a boogie.

  • @LeDechaine
    @LeDechaine Před 6 lety +2

    So that's where I heard about this trick. Thanks!
    I'm using my MT2 as a clean boost for my 6505MH right now (because the red channel stopped workng). Will repair it soon, but wow. I don't think I need an overdrive or clean boost anymore!

    i've had a couple of different boosts through the years, but i stopped boosting my amps pretty much entirely. engl blackmore and e570 just don't really need it in my opinion, and i seem to lose a bit of the response i love so much about them. might be different when recording, but for just playing i prefer without boost. but i might check out how the metal zone does. i definitely see how the semi-parametric EQ is a huge plus for this use

    • @XChristianNoirX
      @XChristianNoirX Před 6 lety

      givemeajackson Some amps are set up in a way that they don't need boosts, because the amp itself essentially does relatively rhe same thing on its own.. shaping frequencies etc.
      I like boosts with less than perfect amps sometimes though because of more adjustability.
      What would be interesting is an amp with a parametric EQ before and after the pre...
      But that all adds extra cost to the amp... might as well just get a pedal to be able to mix and match depending on your setup.
      If the amp does everything that one needs, nothing wrong with that either.. Whatever works for someone's particular style works!
      It's just that some people have this idea that, if your amp is really that good, why do you need an OD or any other pedal?
      The response is... well... customizability.

    • @givemeajackson
      @givemeajackson Před 6 lety

      i agree, except on the cost argument. rectifiers for example are very expensive amps and in my opinion absolutely need a boost, whereas a way cheaper 6505 doesn't in my opinion. there's lots of people who boost engls, and most of the time it sounds good, i have just personally stopped it because i prefer the response of an unboosted amp. in a recording setting i might actually prefer the boosted one, i don't know, i haven't tried comparing them. lasse has a video of an engl fast hand motion (essentially an el34 blackmore) with a boost and i think it sounds amazing. i really like the idea of a built in tubescreamer circuit in some amps though, that spares you the hassle of messing around with extra cables, powers supplies and pedals while giving you the option to boost or not.

  • @OrkhanJulfa
    @OrkhanJulfa Před 6 lety +1

    This is the only way to properly use this pedal. It is actually boost pedal for already dirty channel not a drive pedal for clean channel or preamp for FX loop. Good video!

    I have the 30th anniversary black MT on the way. I have the Omega Granophyre single channel (no clean channel). Would I set this up just like your video explanation? I really don't want to run it in the effects loop and bypass the preamp on such a cool piece of gear..

  • @riffsnreviews
    @riffsnreviews Před 6 lety +3

    Nice, but I think I prefer it in front of the VH4 clean, but then it was in a mix so...
    On a side note, as you where talking about the para EQ on the pedal, I believe every high gain player should have a parametric EQ in the loop, even if it's just to attenuate a little that precise annoying frequency inherent to 12 inch speakers, generally somewhere between 3 and 3.6 k depending on the speaker, that horrible fizzy nasally frequency, it can make a speaker go from meh to great, especially if the amp also emphasizes that frequency, it's something you just can't really do efficently with a 6/7/10 band EQ pedal.
    I think wampler even has a mod for this pedal to just change it basically into a parametric EQ, allowing it to achieve unity gain, it makes for a good cheap para EQ ( that are for some reason expensive most of the time)

  • @TheJMan1K

    Nice vid Lasse! Do you think this would be good for boosting a MK IV or should I get a Maxon 808? I currently just have the SD pickup booster/line driver boosting to add a little something extra.
    Edit: I have a boss Sd1 which I like but would a TS style pedal be much of a difference?

    • @LasseLammert

    • @TheJMan1K
      @TheJMan1K Před 6 lety

      Lasse Lammert thank you. Also is here any amps out there that sound like Marshall for a decent price (around 1000 US dollars) I’m wanting to get maybe a DSL but I’m looking something made in the U.S. or England. I was looking at Ceriatone but my only issue is that those are kit amps and as such value will vary. I was thinking of those options or I get something solid state like a Quilter then just add pedals. Or maybe a Randall? Anyways Lasse Keep up the good work!

    It seems the Metal Zone just totally creamed every other OD out there.. at least in this demo.

    What mod is done to the metal zone

  • @XChristianNoirX
    @XChristianNoirX Před 6 lety

    What everyone probably wants to know is... even though you have the mod switch set to stock for purposes of the demo... is it worth it to get the mod? Just the led change is sweet. Even if you have it set to stock, it still makes it look like one has a custom, whizbang pedal that is mo' special haha.

    • @LasseLammert
      @LasseLammert  Před 6 lety +1

      Christian Noir the mod actually sounds pretty cool of you’re using it as a pure distortion. For boosting and tightening up high gain amps I prefer it stock
