    I love the JCM800 "metallic and honky" midrange barks, it sounds super precise and properly dirty to my ears. I hate that modern amps focus on bass frequencies. Leave them for the bass guitar!

      The modern amps have a more defined low end indeed. It seemed to have started with the dual rec but as with the dual rec, if you dial it in for midrange and sizzle up top they respond to that type of setup quite well. Just my opinion.

    I grew up with the early versions of Marshall’s and to be honest, they’re the standard by which all great amps are measured!!! They simply kick ass!!! I also went thru a phase where I Had To try everything else-and I’m glad I did-in fact, I still enjoy plugging into different amps. BUT the minute I plug back into a Marshall, my ears can hearing it, my playing tightens up, then once I get that inevitable kick in chest, I feel like I’m home!! The JCM800 is the perfect distortion amp for me. Anything from punk to metal, it just works. The Greenbacks are a nice speaker to pair it with, but as you noticed the lack of low end, some folks like the G12-65's which bring back some of that low end, or the G12M-65's (Creambacks) for some more low end than a Greenback but with a little more high end than the G12-65's.

I’m sure these push a little more than my higher watt 30’s, just by wattage difference alone. I’m also glad you mentioned how you time align your mics. Is old school engineers gnash our teeth over projects that come to our desk that aren’t time aligned and then told why it’s not important to do so. Phase is important. You know this and I’m glad you passed this on to your viewers. Great vid as always. Love your stuff, Ola. Metal.🤘🏻

    The great thing about the Marshall tone is that it sounds great for Rhythm and Lead as well without changes the settings. Its chunky but full in the mids as well. Whereas with the dedicated chug machines your lead needs readjustment. I love the Mesa tone and its a killer rhythm tone but if you try to play leads with the same tone, you disappear into oblivion.

    On the deadweld audio duality pedal, when it comes to the blue side, you need to not push the volume past 12:30 MAX. If you push it past that, it overloads the circuit and causes it to fart and fall apart. Only reason I'm bringing it up is because I absolutely love that pedal, and the blue side is incredible for shaping metal amps, so I don't want anyone to hear it and go "thats awful why would anyone use that." Honestly it is an incredible boost, and deserves your attention :) and the built in noise gate is killer!!!

    I remember Dallas Toler-Wade (ex-Nile, Narcotic Wasteland) showing his recording gear in some video and it was JCM900 with a boost and an old JCM800 cabinet. Such a great amp.

  • @RozsaAmplificationLLC
    @RozsaAmplificationLLC Před 2 lety +4

    The JCM has classic tone and "cutting" as you can hear. The drawback is that there isn't enough bottom and tightness for it. Like Ola commented near the end...an EQ or something in the loop to boost the bottom, but reall, the only thing the JCM800 needs (besides tweaking to taste), is add a depth/punch resonance knob and it's all set!

    • @justinainsworth6264
      @justinainsworth6264 Před 11 měsíci

      The bottom from Marshalls come in at volume as they are voiced to be stadium amps. A 4x12 with a Marshall on 10 will have way more natural low end resonance from sheer volume than people realize even with the bass on 0. Not to mention once the bass guitar is added any extra low end will be lost in a mix. That's why you always hear Marshalls sound best cranked. They are designed that way. Depth/punch knobs simulate what volume does naturally which is a useful feature today, but wasn't something those bands needed back then as they played them near 10.

    I have a 1984 Marshall 2204 JCM 800 50 Watt going through a 412 Green back Marshall angled Cab. I would never ever let this rig go.
    I think Ola is demonstrating rather nicely why guitarists through out rock history have acquired this set up.

    The 800 2205: one of the most underrated Metal amps ever. Got slagged for diode clipping when it came out but ironically, that is in 95% of hi gain amps today and no one bats an eye. It's a wicked machine and very affordable compared to the 2203/2204. Now watch, you wont get on cause people will run out and grab them all lmao

    They embody a certain chime/ring that your riffs particularly let shine.

    The thing is Marshalls are generally bright cutting amps. Problem is today many guys do not play live do in their bedroom or wherever the tone is unforgiving. Same with a Blackface Fender Twin. Once you play in a band and walk away ten feet then it sounds AWESOME!! Cuts through the frequencies of bass guitar, drums, vocals room slap back etc. If one was to listen to isolated classic tracks you would not like the tone usually.

    Man, great tones! Not that I expected less from a Marshall. I have a DSL40 with an Eminence Private Jack speaker (higher-wattage greenback clone), and with an overdrive it’s absolutely monstrous. Marshall really did and still does make some great stuff.
