IT'S FRIDAY! Also Glad Midsommar to all my fellow Swedes!
YeahaaAaaaa it's FRIDAY!!!
Ever since seeing that movie...that's such a scary thing to hear 😂
Glad midsommar tillbaka!
Let's do Solar Amp!
Nice stack Ola! It has that nice Randall Dimebag sizzle in it
He opted not to make this a "Will it Chug?" because it would have been the shortest episode ever.
"Will it clean up?" would be a great series, but probably not suitable for this channel.
Lol I think it chugs as the power switch engages lol 😂🤣🤘🤘
@@Jeroen_K Yes, I agree THAT would be an extremely valuable demonstration!
Never knew this amp ever existed 🤘🏻Great video man!
me neither
Me neither x3
Just another CZcams badass guitarist commenting. I love it lol
Subscribe to lambchopper! Gary holt told me to!
Your videos are killer man
I have three Randall amps because of you. You did this to me.
You must be very happy!
I will gladly take one off your hands 😂
@@allboutthemojo of course
@@allboutthemojo an attenuator is the way to go
@@allboutthemojo man that’s hard to explain without giving you a mini class on tube compression, basically a volume pedal won’t do what an attenuator will do. And attenuation isn’t just turning the volume down it’s sort of like putting ankle weights on for weight training, the tubes are still doing work you’re just not going as loud as normal with attenuation. Tubes need to be pushed to get a good warm distortion and you can’t get a tube hit without cranking the volume.
Ola rapidly becoming the metal Johan Segeborn.
both are swedish treasure
That made me snort after reading it. Bravo LOL!
I would love to see johan get with ola and try to make some metal amps go plexi
Ola should have coffee with johan.
LETS GO
How tall are you?
Ola: - 2 4x12 cabs and a head.
Plus one pedal
I don't know about Sweden, but in the US the standard door frame is 80" tall. I have to duck through them when I wear shoes and I stand 6'7". He looks about 6'6" or so @8:33 or (196 to 200cm ballpark)
He's probably around 5'11" 6'
I think he said he was 6'5 before.
I'm 6ft 10 imagine me with door frames.
Now let's hear the century and rg100es through those jaguars!
And I bet the century 200 sounds evil through them
I have wanted a Century to get the White Zombie tones from Astro Creep.
J yuenger is one of my favorite unsung guitarist (along with John christ from Danzig). La sexorcisto rips ass from start to finish. I wish he would make more stuff in that vein. I follow him on IG and he produces from what I can tell. His tone on white zombies cover of Children of the Grave was killer. Also Feed the Gods from the Airheads soundtrack
@@justinyarbrough5986 John Christ is amazing for sure.
@@brpadington John Christ gives guitar lessons in Maryland at Coffey Music in Westminster Md.
I love how Ola is always keeping Dime's legacy alive.
BTW, if you haven't read Scott Ian's book 'Access All Areas' there is an epic, hysterically funny Dimebag story in there that is probably the highlight of the book.
I still love that sound and I'm 63 years old. Love the full stack and the cross but the Solar was great too.
For better or worse, that’s the Randall sound. Would love to see an A/B with the solid state ES… this sounds like an ES from the video so would be cool to see the difference of the tube power section in that setting!
@1988 I bought the solid state version of that exact amp and one 4 X12 speaker enclosure with Jaguar speakers from Stryper's salesman Kevin, at Alta Loma Music, in Alta Loma, California. Mine had (literal) carpeted covering (not vinyl) for the cab and the chassis head, a rack mount version, was installed in a smaller, carpeted enclosure. It served me well until I sold it to Music-Go-Round in Kansas City @2000, because I went back to Marshall tube amps. Randall are a great guitar amp for "Metal".
Screen capping all these settings! This is basically my live rig.
What's crazy, is how different this sounds! The solid state version is so much tighter and nastier. The tube RGT has that tube flub and sag. Wow! This is amazing.
Is it just me or is Ola standing and playing a diffrent mood🔥🤘🏽
Thanks for spreading positivity Ola. I appreciate your attitude the most and then your guitar playing skills. Well wishes to your family.
Every time when the Time riff gets played, I just go "Fuck yeah, thats the shit!". Puts a smile on my face. That gold Solar looks so good!
I thought it was a Washburn?
@@thehelpdesk4051 The Cross & Southern Cross are Washburn, but the guitar he played after the Cross gave issues is a Solar
🤔
Oh...ok
Didn't watch the entire clip
I really love how Ola shows how much of a Dimebag Darrell fan he is. ❤❤❤
Ola!!! This was by far the most kickass amp demo I’ve ever seen. Good job bro!!
Makes me happy Rock and Metal is not dead cause Ola brings that feeling back...the feeling all guitar guys knows on their way to find the sweetspot of an amp...to test them and hope to find the best sound....awesome🙏
I've been waiting for this to happen.
I was NOT disappoint-ed. That TS9+Randall sound was absolutely phenomenal.
One of your best sounding gear reviews IMHO,
along with the Marshall DS1 and the Revv G3.
I owned 2 RG100ES back in the early 00's and I loved it. Ran a 15" black widow cab +4x12 was sick AF I miss it sooooooo bad some days.
It died. No one could save it. When I bought it, it had been sitting in a dusty pile of a music shop for over 6 years. They practically gave it to me
Ola wisely stands off to the side, thereby avoiding a Marty McFly incident. Veteran move.
Yessssssssssssssssss lol love that part blows him right across the room I can't see a stack without that in my head anymore still want to try to make a replica . Not that's blows across the room but could look cool with a standard stack behind it
It also sounds better to the side.
Ola I’m an old metal head going way back to early Priest (I’m 54) and you my friend are a breath of fresh air. When Dime was murdered I thought it’s was over for the well written metal song. Too often guys are using the latest fad 28 string whatever and tuning down just to tune down and it loses something in the mix. Dime had a way to make a song heavy tuned to D or just standard E using 9-42’s!!! You’ve got a lot of that in you, your right hand is a metronome from hell but still done in a very musical way. Thanks for keeping Dimes memory alive and thanks for these awesome and very entertaining vids. God bless.
Dude. Theres tons of modern young guys still playing without de tuning massively. Bands like exmortus, Vektor, Dust. Bolt and warbringer.
@@hawk6111 One word... Good
I'm learning what really matters for high gain amps is EQ before the amp and EQ in the FX loop. You can make just about any high gain amp sound great with proper EQ. Something I should have learned from Dime but didn't, I kept thinking "I need this exact amp with these settings" I've since learned the troof
Damm dude you’re almost as tall as the Amplifier and stacked cabinets.
That’s what it says on his I.D.
Height: Full Randall Stack and 1/2 OD pedal.
I wanna hear a krank through those cabs
Taller*
I think he said he's 6"5' so 1,96m almost
Normal height in sweden..
Dude, you standing there with that cross around your neck gave me a moment of Dimebag swag feeling. You own a bit of it, Ola.
OMG I absolutely love the way this sounds. I could only imagine what it sounds like in person. Now I am on my way to check pricing and availability in the US. Thank you for always producing great content Ola much love
When the room mic sounds almost like the one in front of the speaker, you know this stack CHUGS :)
I F***ing love the Jaguar speakers more than any other ! They are just aggressive.
How do they compare to v30’s?
I have a Randall Thrasher 120W. It was mislabeled as the 50W, so I got it for about $700. I’ve tried to compare it to 5150’s, Rectifiers, and various other amps. Out of all the amps, I’ve loved the coloring the Thrasher has, as well as how versatile the amp is. Absolutely love the amp.
That's awesome I wouldn't mind have that also lol. Randall rules. I want a RG3003H3 head. The balls on Randall is amazing. I'd take Randal over Mesa now.
I think the Bill Lawrence style hot pickups work extremely well with these Randalls and a boost. The clarity and bite is insane!
I love the way the old Washburn dimes had the natural mahogany sides and back with the top being fully custom painted. Really popped on stage and off! And that heel at the base of the headstock on those were killer as well.
That's one special rig. Brings back lots of memories.
Thank you for doing a video on my favorite amp. I own two (87 and 89). I need to add an 88 (the one in the video). A few random thoughts about the amp. Nothing wrong with the Pull Sustain. It's meant to drop the volume. It is my favorite setting. Feels to me like a modded marshall and makes the volume more controllable. The preamp is tube. The preamp uses 4 12AX7's and an 12AT7 for the reverb circuit. As for comparing tone to the RG 100 es...I bought the Rg in 1987 and the guy at the store had me try the RGT. It was twice the cost. I came back 2 weeks later and traded the RG back in for the RGT. I got better tone and gain going straight in. My buddies that had the RG had to use a bunch of pedals to to eek out a decent sound. Oh and the clean channel... so warm. There's more to tell but I'll stop. Takk Ola!
Oh hell yeah. Two monsters standing next to each other \,,/
It was still relatively quiet, even with the tube screamer engaged. Awesome rig!
Olbag Englund!
Thanks for this preview of a rare breed Randall and I can imagine Dime dinging his own guitars near walls while jamming.
Erratum it's an all tubes amplifier tube preamp and tube power
amp section as well. The amp topology is very similar to the rg100 but with tubes instead of discrete transistors :) Cheers Ola nice demo! 🤘
Fans: Ola you're doing too much Dimebag related shit
Ola: Hold my beer (Pulls out a fucking Full Stack & a Southern cross)
Love it
I like when you review something that you really like it. There is some kind of passion in your eyes and we can also see that it is an excitement moment for you. Keep going, Ola. Cheers from Brazil
I was treasure hunting at pawn shops and found the head amp!!! And bought it for $90 US dlls !!!, Bought a 4x10 Hartke for another $90, sounds and rumbles awesome! Very loud and nice, specially for the price, that was a lucky day. I even connected an oldl digitech rp2000, the clean, chorus and extra distortion form the digitech sounds really nice and brutal. Y'all have fun and keep rockin.
I’m a big fan of Randall amps and this amplifier sounded killer. 🎸🤘🏻
Those speakers have lots of tone. Very impressive.
The Volume drop in sustain-mode is perfectly normal. Sounds very close to my vintage R80cs 112.
Never knew that the Randall RGTs even existed. It must be ultra rare. Thanks for the video!
My dream amp back in the 80’s. I think it still is after this demo. Thanks Ola! Worth the wait.
A lot of people haven't heard Dimebags song he did called CAGED IN A RAGE from the Supercop soundtrack. It's not groundbreaking or anything but a fun old school jam. He played everything on that song and sings on it (whoa yaaaaaaaaaay). In the liner notes it said "dimebag Darrell appears courtesy of his credit cards" haha
A New Level is the heaviest riff. Ever.
me with one amp: nice
meanwhile ola with 3 amps stacking as tall as him:
heh
1 and and 2 stacks. Not 3 amps
@@Reject101Personal One full stack.
It's actually 1 amp. A head and 2 speaker cabinets. Together they are called a stack.
its ONE AMP..............(ONE HEAD,2 CABS)
Aha! The Randall fullstack from my local music store. Does the old price tag still say 4900,- (probably still Deutsche Mark, not Euros) or something?;)
Yeah it actually have the tag left! I let it stay :D
@@OlaEnglund haha awesome!
haha, small world xD
Haha 😂
Grüße aus Thüringen🤘🏻
Schnäppchen!
Well he played the right fucking song to start with on that beast.
what song is that tho i literally cant find it 😅
@@Harvsuxfr new level pantera..... I had the same problem dude ha ha ha
It's so awesome to see Ola enjoy this rig. The RGT100ES has been my main amp since I was a teenager. I just wish mine looked as good and I had the cabs!
I appreciate that you stood up for this one. Cheers dude.
You know, I was thinking to myself the other day: I'll just get a 20 watt head and a Torpedo Captor X, I don't need a cabinet, not even a 1x12. Damnit Ola, it's back to the drawing board.
That's all you really need if you're home recording or going direct to a board. Of course full stacks look bad-ass.
@@homevalueglass3809 they don't just look badass....they are badass
This has to be the best tone I've heard from Ola
Ola is the coolest dude ever. If you haven’t heard his project chug albums, highly recommend
Scored one of these 10 years ago for $300. Older version with carpet instead of tolex. The real secret to boosting it is use an EQ pedal instead of an overdrive, sounds so much better. Insanely versatile too, roll the red channel down to 2 or 3 gain and it'll play AC/DC and Zeppelin all day long
Time to get back on stage, preferably with this monster of a stack!
You know game's on when Ola brings out the cross :)
There's a 212 Rg200 here in Denver I'm about to pick up for 299$ With jaguar speakers...Sounds F#@king Awesome,Ola!!!
Thank you,been waiting for this!
Helllllll Yeah!! That is awesome!!!Dime and Vinnie are smiling too.I can feel it.🤘😎🤘 Getcha Pull!!! !!! !!!
Sounds killer with the Distortion pedal and gate
Well done Ola!
Had a Randall 2 channel combo in 1984, it rocked! Sold it in the early 2000s and wish I hadn’t. Great amps!
I had a Randall Rx120d full stack when I was 16 years old and THAT was extremely loud. I can only imagine how loud a tube version of it would be
Found this exact amp at my local guitar shop for $400 US back in 1999. Best amp I've ever owned. All original tubes and it sounds fantastic. I'd have to be offered a pretty penny to get rid of this head.
Wow, shipping must have costed a pretty penny. Very cool, congrats.💪
nice, you should've brought out the dime from hell guitar. that would've been sick!!
I was damn sure hoping he would!!! LOL
It’s like a reverse valve state hehe
When you know from the thumbnail the video is gonna start with a Dime riff. 🤘
I like when Ola talked about his love for Randall amps and doesn’t mention his signature lol
Damn Ola, you’re a really good guitar player.
Was fun to see some older gear with great tone; especially since most hibryd rigs seem to keep the pre amp tubes and replace the power amp stage with solid state. Also even though the two Washburns share the same 'specs' the quality of the second one was readily apparent , in my opinion.
Cheers, and keep on chugging
Roy
Pretty sweet sound!
Awesome video Ola, always wanted to hear this amp/cab setup! The Volume drop happening when you pull the Master is actually diode clipping, which acts like a compressor/limiter and is supposed to drop the volume. Just confirming this after reading the schematic of this amp. It's kind of like a Jose Mod style circuit. Cheers!
Even before you hit that tube screamer I could recognize right away that distinct Randall voicing. It definitely sounds like the RG100es’s brother, pairs extremely well with that southern cross 🔥 🔥 🔥. Seems like the chugs have some more sponginess to the bottom end compared to the ES
This amp is as have The Dimebag on home!!! Great video dude 💪😉
It actually is a mostly tube driven amp except for the reverb section which utilizes operational amplifiers. The volume drop is due to a simple clipping stage with zener diodes to achieve clipping distortion. I had the same amplifier with the same grey minitile tolex. The thing was loud as hell but no distortion unless I would engage the clipping stage, which left me with no loudness. And I did not turn into Dimebag for reasons unknown.
Absolutely love the first thing you played and grabbed was dime lol he's so proud of you right now . 🤘🤘This is why I will always be a big fan of ola . Hope one day I could get the absolute honor to at least chug on a track with you sir would be a dream even a zoom track or let me collaborate 🤘🖤🤘
That thing sounds brutal!
Sounds great, man! Congrats on a massive score!
Ola... That's one of the best sounding amps l heard you play on your show. Rivals the Mesa easily😁
This was not a hoot idea. Now I want it 😤
I can hear every note clear as day
Such a beautiful rig!
I got my Randall 4x12 slant front with Jaguars over 30 years ago and will never part with it. They have more bottom end than any cabinet I've ever played through, before or since. Enjoy it, sir!!🤘
That was a killer opening 🤘
I have a question for a FAQ. Your favourite decade for metal is 90s, like mine, can you name your favourite album from each year from 90-99? Without repeating bands. It would be interesting to see how our lists compare. Thanks for all the great content, Your the man Ola!
I did answer this question in an upcoming FAQ, great question, thanks for contributing
@@OlaEnglund thanks buddy! Sorry for repeating lol
@@M.C.R.SYNTRN I think he means he used YOUR question for his upcoming FAQ!
@@andybrown1439 yea I got that lol
@@OlaEnglund I really like Randall, a great amp !
This sounds killler man !! Those speakers crush
First test with blended mics sounds exactly like the one video of dime playing in a shop when the alarm starts from his playing :D
That image of you first standing next to the full stack, rocking some Pantera, would make a great poster, t-shirt, or even collectible toy!
I've always been a Marshall guy tbh but I must say this amp sounds great. Congratulations on a nice score of a great amp Ola. 👍🤘
2 notes in I was like DAAAAMN. Like an improved thicker dime tone!! Killer.
Great job Ola!! Love Ur tributes to Dime!!
They should come out with a Solar line of guitar amps
My old RG80 head did the same thing with the extra gain stage pullbpot thing. Volume drop but increased gain.
i know that all the new gear with usb, digital, 1-1000 watts, no weight, 3 channels etc. is nice. but nothing beats a tube full stack behind you when you are riffing away. that is the feeling you fall in love with. not very practical but awesome.
its not...will it chug...its...will it do anything else? such a great sounding thunderous, crunchy overdrive sound.
Ola. It would be insane for you to do some full Pantera covers with both those pedals engaged.
Love this amp, never knew this amp existed, sounds like a weapon, I have the Randall Gus G T2 and for a hybrid amp it's a weapon 🤘
Congratulations man! This finn is happy for you, genuinely!
