  • For 2023, RockShox has completely revamped their line of mountain bike forks and shocks in a massive way. From the Pike to the Lyrik and the Zeb, and including the Super Deluxe Air and Coil, it's all been updated. They’ve pared down the range of travel that each fork accommodates, allowing them to be better suited for a specific use and lighter across the line. They dived into the internals of the forks and shocks, creating an entirely new damper that is positioned to revolutionize how the end user tunes their suspension, making the entire process significantly easier and more meaningful, and they’ve added clever features and improvements across the board.

    It's awesome how a complete redesign of the entire fork lineup results in not stiffening up the CSU. It still is one of the major long term issues with a singlecrown fork, resulting in creaking and it has not been adressed at this point. I've had it on RS, DVO and seen and heared it on many Fox forks. The connection between the steerer tube and the crown is the main pivitpoint of a singlecrown fork. 2cm of crown depth and only a pressfit will start to creak sooner or later. Fork manufacturers, listen to me, this happens so often and is not acceptable. Get that connection redesigned. Look at EXT an Intend. They have managed to get rid of it.

    • @brandonb6164
      @brandonb6164 Před 2 lety +4

      Yes exactly. A longer press fit connection with a thicker cross section steered tube is probably the best solution. It’s embarrassing to see these manufacturers continue to market larger stanchions with virtually unchanged crowns and steerers.

    • @roddas26
      @roddas26 Před 2 lety +1

      You are 100% correct. It's almost as if they want the product to fail right after it's outside the warranty period? And then claim it's not a manufacturing issue. So you either put up with it or spend more money. The only fork to address this to date is EXT.

      That heavy meadow green is a lot darker a shade of green than I thought, fitted a set to my green haibike allmtn 7 today. Looks amazing. And feels great, compared to the performance fox 36s I had on it. I've owned the bike for 2 months and the fox's had a ridiculously harsh top out when just boosting a small kirb stone, or just lifting the front wheel for a wheelie. In that time they've been sent to 'silverfish' the fox repair/ service center twice, once because when i bought the bike, as soon as I got it home they leaked hydraulic fluid everywhere. They replaced a sketchy o-ring. Second time because they just felt shitty with the harsh top out. They found nothing wrong with them but put on a new top cap assembly anyway. They felt exactly the same, bad. I can't believe Fox released them like this. Could the luftkappe be causing this? I'm asking anyone and everyone in the comments if they have had a similar thing, particularly the newer 36s with the arch at the top of the lowers rather than the flat topped older version??
      I have to admit, the fox's were silky as possible while being compressed, but that damn top out feels ugly. not confidence inspiring at all.

    I’m confused on the air cans. Wasn’t the point of the MegNeg to make it more linear by increasing midstroke support and NOT increase bottom out?

    • @MrChadLedford
      @MrChadLedford Před 2 lety +4

      Meg neg made it more progressive. Falls into travel easier, but had more midstroke and end stroke ramp up.

    • @FanatikBikeCo
      @FanatikBikeCo  Před 2 lety +3

      Good question, it is a little confusing. My first thought when the MegNeg came out was that if the negative spring is larger, which functions to pull the suspension into its travel, wouldn't that result in easier bottom outs?
      I was neglecting a few things though. Increasing the size of the negative air chamber while keeping the positive one the same means that relative to the negative spring, the positive spring is now smaller (again, relatively). You'll end up running a bit higher pressure in the positive can to counteract that larger negative force, which will result in more mid-stroke support and more bottom out resistance.
      Also (and I don't know objectively how much this affects it), but because the negative spring becomes de-compressed through the stroke, there will be a point where it flips from being a positive pressure situation to a negative pressure situation (or suction? not sure what the correct term is). So I believe it'll actually pull the shock back *out* after a certain point in the stroke, and moreso if it's a larger volume of air. I think. I haven't confirmed that last point.
      Anywho, if anyone has a more thorough understanding of that, feel free to chime in.

    • @jungleb77
      @jungleb77 Před 10 měsíci

      When you switch to MegNeg, you need to increase the main chamber pressure (20%), so you get more bottom out resistance because you're running higher overall air pressure, but the MegNeg makes it softer off the top.

Would a Lyrik 160mm with 44mm offset alter the whole handling feeling of the bike in comparance to a 140mm 51mm offset pike? • @mikee8244

      Id go for the lyriks, it's a slightly burlier fork, shorter offset will bring the axle a bit closer to you on the longer fork. Head angle and longer amount of trail because of the shorter offset will all play a factor. Do you know anyone else with a stoic with longer forks? If so, pick their brains, and have a go if possible. There's a fair amount of variables at play.

The main problem was that SRAM didn't have parts available like for example the bladder if it ruptured, or the quad seal that caused leaks out the top on 2.0 of the damper. If the charger 3 is even easier, I don't see any reason why people shouldn't service it at home if they feel like trying.
