Don’t Buy a 240Hz Gaming Monitor It Will RUIN YOUR LIFE
PC gamers might be better off avoiding 240Hz gaming monitors right now as it could completely ruin their life. Not only are 240Hz gaming monitors incredibly expensive, but with so few 1440p and 4K options on the market you will likely have to make the tough choice between dealing with something that doesn't have good image quality, can't take full advantage of it's refresh rate, or doesn't support HDR.

I’m rocking a 42” 4K 120hz C3 LG OLED TV. I absolutely love native 4K at 120 Hz and I’m willing to trade off all those extra FPS to have native 4K ultra settings at 120. 120 FPS is plenty for now. Truthfully, most people don’t even play above 60.

@GraphicallyChallenged, you're spreading such plentiful amounts of untruths per sentence that you leave Brandon wondering.
While being able to push over 60 to 120 Hz on a 1080p monitor you barely need a cheap system, to achieve the same effect on a 4k monitor you need an expensive high end system.
No one has to push to 240 Hz just because! For excellent gaming, the difference is barely noticeable above 120Hz for the human eye so your argument is false and misleading. You're attempting to sway people away from this product which if you check on Amazon is the most popular and sell product with excellent reviews.
There's a special place in the Brandon administration for people like you.

HZ make difference the higher percentage of them you add, for example 30 to 60 is a 30fps increase, but as it is 2x more, it is so much better, the same way as 240 to 360 doesn't feel as absurd even though it is a 120fps increase because it is actually just a 50% increase.

Couple things here. First I like to say you're pretty hilarious with good energy I like it. I also would like to state that the G7 240 is a dog to be monitor personally awful monitor to benchmark from. If you're competitive gamer or play FPS games like I do frequently a higher refresh rate is a must because every second counts in competitive playlist. Personally you would not see diminishing returns unless your PC could not handle it and which case you're just trying to push something you don't need to. Nothing wrong with having a 240 hertz monitor a quality monitor and going into the monitor settings and knocking it down to 120 or 144 to better pair with the PC. High refresh rate, if you could push it in for it, is 1000% the way to go for competitive dedicated gamers. If you just coolin you might not need it but if you have the equipment you will not see diminishing returns like that. Enjoyed the Vid!

      Im a single player guy
And i prioritise more than anything visual quality but i also hate oled. Had 2 oled tvs and after a year the picture quality was garbage and full of burn in from windows icon's etc
So I want mini led, with miniled i get 90% close to oled but have no problems with burn in and dimming display
      I also want minimum 32"
And at 32" 1080p with 60ppi just looks like hot garbage
And 1440p is my favourite resolution for 27" but at 32" the ppi is just not high enough for my taste
So i went with a Samsung neo g8 which to be honest i think looks better than oled with how bright the colours are compared and the mini led with 1200 zones just make it look straight up like oled to me, and after a year the picture is still bright and no burn in like oled.
It is 240hz which I can't reach in all games i play as i only have a 3070 but i really like windows at 240hz
Also people complain about scanlines, but if you turn off vrr and put the monitor to srgb then unless you are 1cm away from the monitor they are un noticeable.
Honestly best monitor i ever had .
Yeah an oled is a 10/10 in the beginning but already after a year it's a 6/10 because how dim it is and the burn in really bothers me and I can't stand it, while a mini led is a 9/10 forever

3:59 great point...problem with 240hz monitors.... you need expensive hardware and motion clarity tends to suffer at the lower refresh range if you can't max the monitor out. Part of the problem is mouse sensitivity...unless you have a full g-sync monitor with variable refresh rate (expensive and that may add latency)...the input stays at 240 hz...even if you change to 120hz refresh rate....so your mouse is 2x as sensitive as it should be.

@joshhardin666 who on earth told you that's what Gsync does?
Gsync is used to keep the FPS and refresh the same. So if your fos goes 133fps 136fps 142fps the hz will do the same so it lowers input lag/frame timing and screen tearing is also removed. For gysnc too work you MUST enable vsync in the Nvidia control panel otherwise if your FPS goes above the Gsync range of the Gsync module/compatible it will make things worse.
Nvidia promoted the use of Vsync with Gsync for years but most have no idea and I find so many people who aren't even using it because without Vsync on it won't work just Google it. 🙏

FPS and Hz don't have to match, so there's also that... if you want 240Hz primarily for the smooth desktop feel (cursor etc) with VRR (GSync/Freesync) you can just run games at whatever FPS makes sense. I'd still CAP the games though for more consistency and to reduce fan noise... and just FYI, when I ran my games at 1440p on my 4K G2 OLED I expected the games to look slightly blurry like pretty much everybody said they would but it wasn't that obvious to me... also some games have modern scaling so, for example, I tried running at 4K and dropped the resolution to 50% in Kena Bridge of Spirits (so 1080p render then upscaled) and that game looked pretty great on my GTX1080... my big disappointment was I thought my GTX1080 would work for GSync/Freesync but it didn't... there's no VRR through HDMI on that card so check into that if you're unsure... maybe a 240Hz, 1440p OLED would make sense for a new desktop monitor (vs my 60Hz) but then I'm not sure about black crush (an issue on my LG G2 OLED for sure) and the sub-pixel layout means text issues... at some point you just SIGH and put off the upgrade because things are working well enough for now.

I just bought the Alienware X17 R2 w/ a 3080 ti and it has an insanely unnecessary 480hz refresh rate. I'm buying an external 1440 monitor, though, with 165hz like a sane person. I have no idea what the point is of making a monitor at 480hz.

I have 165hz on my Pixio but I never use it, because the gfx card fans kick in when I'm playing RT games and it gets loud and I worry about the electric bill, lol. I go down to 120 and even 60fps to quiet it down, and really after a while you get used to it, it only sucks when you're in a fast paced FPS like Doom, which I might turn back up and turn RT off if I'm struggling on a section

I bought the ASUS xg258q back on release, 2017. Probably one of the worst purchases I've made for a while. Mainly because of the terrible overdrive ghosting, even at default. You have to lower it from 3 to 1...making the motion not as clear, so pointless. Plus, since it was speed focused it doesn't look great.

    Rig is:
    R7 7800X3D
    4070Ti
    32gb DDR5 6000mhz
Think I should stick with this monitor? I play escape from tarkov mainly but also play CS and R6. I definitely don’t know the “best” monitor settings to use

I think people are so concerned about FPS they forget about picture quality. I took back my 240 Hz Asus because the color/sharpness took a hit. I tried loading the color profile & adjusting the color settings, but my 60 Hz Samsung was noticably more crisp & had much better color. I would also like to add HDR is a joke. I'm gonna have to wait for a 27" Oled 1440p monitor.

240hz is great as i can't see tearing so I don't use v sync or g sync so even if I'm getting 90fps the monitor is still refreshing at 240hz all the time so motion still looks great although blurrier due to sample and hold issues, this is on the Odyssey G7 1440p. I'm now currently using the C2 at 120hz and yes it does feel pretty meh and motion at 120hz is so blurry compared to say 200fps on the G7 when playing a SP shooter.
240hz oled is my end goal at 4k with bright HDR and no grainy panel coating. 144hz and 165hz tearing is real bad still so you need g sync and thus the overdrive can be worse at different refresh rates on the fly. So for me it's 240hz lcd or 120hz oled tv. The G7 has nice blacks with dimming zones on and is pretty great although the curve messed my eyes up so I stopped using it. Seeing flat screens look bent backwards is not a desirable side effect. I'll make do with the C2 until 32" 4k 240hz, bright HDR oled comes along with a semi glossy, glossy screen.
Aiming at stuff at 117fps though is so meh compared to 200fps, night and day feel even though I only play SP shooters, it just feels more fun to play at 200fps.

    • @Simlife101
      @Simlife101 Před 9 měsíci

@theoldpcgamer77 Gsync doesn't just remove screen tearing it gives you much more consistent input delay and frame times due to the refresh rate of the monitor in sync with the FPS of the game.
Also the monitor will not be refreshing at 240hz it will be all over the place due to no sync. If your using the monitor fps reader their fake and only show a static 240hz unless in sync.

I got a 240hz lg ultra gear, and I don’t regret it whatsoever! It’s honestly so smooth and improved my gameplay by at least 2x not even kidding. But I’m think of spending the extra money and just getting the neo g8 bc it’s a bigger screen, curved, and also 240hz, but instead of being 1440p, it is 4k which is insane. You don’t see 4k monitors at THAT high of a refresh rate for only $900 so for its price it’s really good. ( I just wish it was an oled panel and not va :/ )
