Me and a person who lives in Wyoming and loves the Beartooths especially, this is one of my comfort off-road videos to watch
Trailer and tight switchbacks just don't mix, but loved how you guys worked together as a team to overcome what could have been a disastrous outcome, and especially with a group of guys. You guys didn't yell and scream at each other's once. That was an incredible accomplishment in itself. Big balls=Great adventure.
Pat Kumlue Great Comment! I just have to say how nice it is to read a nice non-condescending comment. Completely positive! To many of the comments are from armchair trolls. People who have no idea why these men are doing this or why they chose those vehicles and brought a trailer. Thanks for being a decent human being. Sad that it’s so rare on the Internet.
Happy trails mate
When you said 28 switch backs I had to get a dip of snuff and kick back. You guys are living the dream
Oh man what a great production and a great inspiration for the next trip.
I can't believe you guys got that land cruiser with a trailer up there. Holy Cow!
Can anyone tell me why not one network has picked this up yet.... My 4 year old daughter and I love this better than watching Alone. Nice job guys.
I gotta confess. The first episode I watched was Central America ep.1..then I dropped backwards to Yukon 1...I then watched some of the short bulls episodes and felt conviction. How could I start at the end? I've new stated at the beginning and have reached this one.
I'm hooked. Inspired. In need of an overland expedition. I will be on one, if yes. I will Overland!
Can't wait to watch them all. If you ever find yourselves on the southern most tip of Texas, where the Rio Grande empties into the Gulf, please, don't hesitate to say hey. You gotta home here fellas. The keys under the mat.
Never change this show! It is so entertaining. It doesn't feel like the "reality shows" where things are made up or produced. There isn't a lot of silly, or made up drama. Keep it real and grass roots.
The Bay Watch scene at the end was icing on the cake.. lol
Looking back, this episode seems like the turning point in pretty dang good quality to the XO quality we all know and love today.
Great to see an older Taco on 32's make it through!
Another totally awesome 4x4 fun adventure, you are making us offroaders so happy!
I have 3 sons. The youngest is 33. If this video doesn't give you pause for massive self-reflection, with NO doubt any longer about who you are, nothing will. Have a nice day.
I bet the guy on that motorcycle was EXHAUSTED each evening... That looked like a ton of work.
On a heavy adventure bike like that, hell yeah. I ride an enduro on stuff like that, and it's about half the weight and a lot easier with knobby tires, but I haven't done any overnight stuff, so I don't know how bad that would be with luggage.
like the Baywatch ending! Great vid
Props to Ryan on the bike.
Ah I think the LC needs dual lockers...
You guys did a good job hauling those vehicles over that goat trail. :)
Nice vid guy's !!
Good camera work !! Brilliant shots !!
Toyota rules !!
Tip: *)First section in the sand, lower the tire pressure to +/- half it's pressure. When you reach the stones, fill them up.
*)Use hand signals next time. *)When you use the High lift jack watch your hands, don't hold them near it, especialy when you are doing a side pull as well, if she slips it's by by. (i have seen this happen, and it almost happened to me 2x in DRC Congo)
Enjoy your next adventure !!
glad you got the bike gone. that bike was more of a hassle.
Fantastic array of kit you have, hi tech and luxury expeditioning if ever i saw it. Good firmness and presence of mind by Clay. Lucky people, do more vids pls
respect. great episode.
Another great adventure i stay up late at night to watch since I don't have much time during the day. Great team work guys!
LOVE the endslate. great trip guys.
one of the most epic things I've seen. Can't wait to get to some overlanding also.
what a perfect trip. very much enjoyed.
You guys need a 4runner to join the fleet!! Just got putting some time into a roof rack with certain amenities (Shovel, Axe, Hi-Lift jack and an assortment of off road lights) and a canoe mounted on it.. Next thing is an ARB/Shrockwork bumper with a winch and I'll be hitting the trails with my GoPro.
those switchbacks are brutal
Yes they are!
I love toyotas... but I feel safe if I bring a Jeep rubicon here.. nice vid...
A shorter wheelbase is the ticket on those switchbacks.
that trailer was like an anchor lol
Nice "baywatch" scene at the end
Great video - looks like a really good time!
what a great episode!
awesome work guys
Great video, having some fourbie I'm amazed by that trailer. To think what it would of looked when you were there compared to the flatness of videos... Amazing. If I ever take a trailer out I think I'll add a giant off road tyred jockie wheel to the rear- just in case!
Awesome video guys! Inspiration to keep building my 4Runner as an expo rig.
Awesome trip. Thanks.
Cool video, the only rocks we have in the Netherlands is at the garden centre. Great scenery out there. Bit too difficult with these oversize cars plus trailer. I just get up there with my Suzuki Samurai. But that has only 800 kg, lol.
Ryan you sir are one good rider. Would love to do this on a bike.
Thank goodness the little grey box on wheels pushed you guys up the hill!
Must have had beer in it !
Is that a ball hitch ? Come on guys get a pintal hitch !
Looks like stock tire pressure was used on the sandy start up the hill. Looks like fun non the less.
please. 4th generation MT boy. I was raised doing this stuff. It's dry ground though. Do it in a foot of snow chained on all 4 and hunting season. I applaud you keeping the spirit alive though totally. Hats off gents.
Bay watch Maxtrax style. :-) (at the end)
To all those who commented on
1- the trailer
2- tire pressure
3- lockers
4- the bike
Let it go, they know what they are doing and at the time of this video being made were still on a learning curve. And there is no end to the curve. I’ve been doing trips like these for over 35 years and I usually learn something on every trip. In fact if I don’t learn something then either I did it wrong or it was to easy of a trip lol
So hey cut them some slack nobody knows everything and quit being naysayers/trolls. Just be positive and supportive you’ll feel better about yourself and just maybe every other person on the planet will stop hating you. You might even find someone willing to be your friend (if you pay them).
Hola desde Chile los felicito fantástica aventura,e visto todos sus videos, its very beatifull, place, congratulation,Boys, good bay.
Dang haha just notice you guys used a different tacoma in this trip
epic adventure lads
Awesome.
Damn good video!! Liked and sub
Alternate title.
"That time we took all the wrong vehicles camping."
And knew it beforehand!
I wouldnt want a trailer or a bike in my group if I was to go.
excellent
awesome video
I learned very quickly that all terrain means "all terrain except for deep sand and mud"
Wow, giving those winches a work out. Way to keep your noses to the grind stone, and great video. But I can not help but mention that this would be less challenging with the proper meat and potatoes. Like solid axles front and rear, locked up all around. At least 34''s that are more aggressive and proper gearing. Think about Interco tire company and a solid axle swap up front.
AWESOME
wow... air down guys. PLEASE. looks like the LSD diffs work well in those but lockers would be much better. not bad for stock like yotas with IFS!! fun stuff!
Most likely the only trailer to ever make it up that trail.
+Luke Hopkin probably the only one that should ever go up that trail! hahaha!
As soon as you said "Morrison" my eyes got big. I'm impressed that you got it up there.
so fun.. becarefull of falling rock
awesome
Another great vid! But man you guys like things painful, lol.
Amazingly intense
Sure glad I didn't travel 500 miles to do this trail and have these guys ahead of me. I appreciate the effort and team work but was there not any research done before attempting this feat?
Love being up on top of the Beartooths. You guys definitely take the scenic routes. Hope to maybe bump into you guys out on a MT or WY trail this season. I'm out of Billings so the Bighorns to the Beartooths and everything in between is my backyard. But my Taco isn't silver...
Im going back up to MT for college. Ill be in bozeman so if you ever wanna get up and go off roading sometime just hit me up
That trailer seems to pose alot of problems- is it that important to have that little more storage space?
It looked to me that the bike was more of a problem.
Especially for this trip, the Morrison trailhead is only 45 minutes from Cody! And 17 miles from US hwy 212.
just starting the overland life and love it. question... how did the vehicle without the trailer fair on the steep inclines? I am now rethinking an off road trailer for all trips.
I just subscribed to this channel and love it, but with all that expensive equipment...and no lockers! come on guys
Tom D We got lockers installed in the rigs the next season. Baby steps!
Hahaha, yeah I spoke too soon, saw the later episodes and found that out. It's cool to see these rigs grow up through the seasons with the upgrades. You guys are making amazing shows, and I hope you keep it up for a long LONG time.
+ExpeditionOverland I thought those Yotas came with rear lockers.
+mimixownzall
I can't answer for the 100 series land cruiser, but I know the models before (fj80 & fzj80) had front and rear factory selectable lockers, however they were offered as an option. again I can't answer for any models prior to those, but I'm sure someone could answer for that
Throw a chain or heavy blanket over that winch cable, if that thing snaps and you're standing where you were (at 5:19ish) you'll (maybe get the chance to) be heading the to the hospital, both (or more) pieces of you.
Would lockers have helped at all on the switchbacks, given that the surface was mostly loose rock, sand, etc?
Also, Semper Fi brother.
Note to self: Do not ever take a trailer offroading
watch a new episode......that a benefit
You guys awesome
Or a motorbike. More hassle that it's worth.
Poor planning to take a trailer up that trail. I guess it makes the struggle more intense.
Do you post maps of these trails? I'd like to try some of them.
no more motorcycles. get rid of the land cruiser and trailer. just my opinion. I love these videos! thank u for this documentation.
Nice Arial shots. Drone rc copter?
rear wheel steering would have been handy for the trailer (like a fire/ladder truck).
Love it 2 to the chest one to the head!
@kelly Hearn; they were aired down just not 10psi ;)
I can't help thinking for this kind of wheeling you need solid axle dual transfer cases a real body lift and bigger tyres. For a custom vehicle look at the 1980's hiluxes and 4runner with a diesel engine!
In America we don't have those with diesel engines.
Nice Vid! Reckon with a better choice of tyre/rim is would have been a lot easier. :)
Clay,
In your opinion, how would the new 4runners have fared on this trip?
Man it’s been 6 years
I know. I feel the same way.
I live in Cody wy I have been up these before and I have no clue why you would take a trailer or not have lockers I went up on a 4wheeler
Great video. I would like to join your adventure some day, but like to drive my OWN ride (ruby).
Random question with the group you guys have do you so cram into the two roof top tents or are there other sleeping arrangements as well? I just got my first worthyish rig and I want to get into overlanding myself.
I would have just turned back and gone to In-N-Out.
whats the point of those motorcycles? can't go offloading. can't catch speed. any answers?
Just gota laugh at some of the people commenting as if they never made a mistake or got in over their head. Such an amazing group of people that where born perfect.
Did the truck with the trailer have lockers? If not overlanding vehicles should have front and back lockers of some sort especially if they are lugging a 1K lb + lb trailer behind it.
I wonder what they were using for the aerial shots?
what wheels are those on the tacoma?
Are you guys using a different tacoma in this series? Jw
"NO new parts, unless it's broken!"
cant imagine youre going to get a lot of miles out of that land cruiser tanny
i reckon mud tyres is much better and what tyre pressure did u used?
ExpeditionOverland, how come you guys don't use a 4Runner for your trips? Is it because the vehicle is smaller or it's overall not a great vehicle for what you do?
supercharged04gt, good question. At this point in we were simply using what we had to get the show started. 4Runners have been a part of our fleet since 2015 and a handful of us have had 4Runners as our personal vehicles over the years. Check out our build video and Central America series for 4Runner footage.

@@ExpeditionOverland We won't be disappointed if you bring one back into the show. ;-)
Why the BFG ATs? You would have had an easier time with KM2s, especially in a 255/85-16. But then I guess there would be no drama.
so is this the first season or episode? Hard to tell with nothing numbered
It seems to be a ok show and has good info but I have one question for you. Why would you not air down to help with the soft stuff and the rock?
If they just got rid of the bike and the trailer it would be a very fast and easy trip everywhere they go
Great, more cast members more drama.
Trailer and bike are the problems
What was the Locker Situation on all Cars involved???
i think it's Snake river range
I'm 6 minutes into the video and TYRE PRESSURE, TYRE PRESSURE, TIRE PRESSURE !
