  • At the top of the world the crew continues their way back to Inuvik by boat. Stopping at a whaling village and engaging in conversation with the locals. After their return they make a hard push down to Hyder, Alaska. Some 39 hours of drive time to the South. Trouble finds them but it turns out to be a tremendous move! In the end, the guys travel from the Arctic Ocean to the edge of the Pacific in just three days. Stopping at the most spectacular location of the trip! #xoverland #overlander #alaska

    It's always the highlight of my week when you release a new episode. I've briefly visited Alaska but I can't wait to get back. As a 17 year old this series in addition to everyone on expedition portal have shaped my life aspirations. Great episode, one of the best! Big fan of the show!
    Since I've been to all of these places two years ago, I wanted to correct one detail: The community of Hyder, AK is actually the only US-territory on that side of the valley. The road up to the Salmon Glacier and the tunnel of the old Granduc copper mine is Canadian territory again and the glacier is one of Canada's largest. So his statement at 24:55 should be: "It's all here in BC, Canada!"
    I know, it's a detail, I'm not even Canadian, just wanted to make sure everybody is aware of this anomaly...

    We live in Stewart and love it! Not too sure if you know, but actually once you hit the dirt end of that road to Salmon Glacier (the glacier you went to) you actually were back in BC, Canada!! Hyder/Alaska is only the small area of the town and basically paved road! The area is old mining areas and Grand duc mine is farther down that road. Salmon Glacier is actually Canada!

    Fantastic series. This particular episode resonated with me, though. I grew up only a short drive from Stewart and Hyder. Many times I found myself thinking, “Oh, you should have gone here or done this…” That’s the benefit of local knowledge, I suppose. As well, it's too bad I took that area's amazing beauty for granted and I don't get back enough to visit.
    And you guys got stiffed with your Hyderization ritual. We used to get the 190 proof stuff there, not that sissy 150 proof you guys had. They probably realized you were from the southern 48 and couldn’t handle the real goods, well, except maybe Toby…. ;)

    Love the series! I'm very surprised that you guys never did the Telegraph Creek Road on your way south down the Cassiar Highway. Nothing like 20% Grades single lane cliff side roads. It truly is an amazing drive.
    There is also tons! and I mean tons of places to explore around the abandoned Asbestos Mine of Cassiar area.
    There is also an abandoned rail grade that runs from Dease Lake to Fort Simpson that was constructed in the 1980's its goes into an area the Locals call the Scared Headwaters it is one of the trips I'll never forget.
    I can provide you with a KMZ file with all the trails I've done along with a ton of GoPro Video I've captured in the last few years of ATVing around the area.
    It is worth adding this area on your next adventure north.
    It has become a passion for me to explore this area and has become almost an addiction.
    Thank you again for the great series brings me back the feelings of my adventures north.

      @adamleckie8582 Před 9 lety

      I did the trip back in 2010 and I hooked up to the rail grade from Tatogga lake taking the Ealou Lake Road. The rail grade north of Tatogga was washed out If I had a bike and not a quad I could have bushed it but it was too much work to get the quad around that section also was a bit more bushed it and rough. The South section to Mount Klappan was excellent and in great condition all the way to Mount Klappan I didn't have enough fuel to explore farther but I can Imagine that the road does get worse and depending on the time of year muddy.
      The Sacred Headwaters was amazing beautiful country great scenery with amazing views pictures don't due it justice.
      I have wanted to make a trip back and since the road is in such great shape I would drive my pickup loaded with my quad to Mount Klappan then hop of the ATV and go from there.
      I would be glad to share all my tracks I've done almost every trail in the Cassiar area as well I have thousands of KM of GPS Tracks I'd be willing to share with you please email me at adamleckie@hotmail.com
