*There is a third way, the easiest way.*
(works on the Pro edition, doesn't work on the Home edition)
On the screen where you are being asked to choose "How would you like to set up this device?" you are given two options. Most people, since they are installing Windows on a consumer device, are going to go with the option to "Set up for personal use". That will bring up a screen asking you for the Microsoft Account credentials.
But, by choosing the option to "Set up for work or school" and then choosing "Sign-in options" on the next screen you are now presented with the option to join a domain. Choose that one. It doesn't matter if the device you're installing Windows on doesn't belong to a corporate domain, it will work regardless.
And, voila, the Microsoft Account is bypassed!

I understand the issue with raising awareness, since OEMs have almost no marketing budget to promote used PCs. So any advertisement is usually through word of mouth in this age of internet commerce. This is why I really hope the online stores do not completely obliterate walk-in stores where I can talk to an actual human (not an AI generated script being read by a call center employee) when I ask for my purchasing options.
I myself bought old Thinkpads from Ebay, formatted them, installed Arch btw ;) and use one of them (a P51) as my main work and entertainment PC. That is how I gained familiarity with somevery basic server-side concepts.

I've installed Linux for the non tech savvy and some are none the wiser. Sure the windows look a bit different but surfing the web is still the same. Linux is more secure than windows, but software compatibility means it won't be for everyone. I believe setting up a Linux community to include local 'Linux helpers' is what would improve Linux adoption. Schools extra activities would make an ideal place to perform Linux projects, but then schools are already overburdened. IMO Microsoft has lost the plot since windows 7, people are just waiting on the support for the alternatives to materialise.

Another great video would be monitoring two clean installs of Win XP and Win 10 or 11... the traffic going out to different Microsoft servers and partners. Surprising!! Not that Microsoft is so terrible... ok they are LOL! The more of our data that is out there no matter who has it and how integral they are.. the larger the attack landscape overall and the more risk to our security and privacy. We can set groups policies... some good tools for that too to automate a large amount of changes but we never get it all, and for how long before Microsoft finds a way around it and reverts changes as they have been known to do with other settings. With all that and they really need to try and force an account with email making it even less secure. And you're right Apple known for privacy and what they sell on is getting worse all the time! I love linux but can't run everything I need with it, in addition needing to stay familiar with MS and MacOS due to my work... or I would't use anything else. As one commenter posted here a good idea would be if developers would get moving more on linux to make it more of a viable alternative. Now I know the kernel is built by large companies too... all have their part in it but we can look at the code at least and know what's going on. Our dev teams doing this kind of thing need the support to make it worth their while. They do what they do most not for the money but they love what they are doing. Sorry for such a long post here. Hi Jason, I'm writing this comment in the future 6 months to be exact. I tried the shift f10 in a pre-built Lenovo yoga 6 with Windows 11 and all it would do is ask me about the display but I washed another user who mentioned pressing function shift and f10 and now the command prompt comes up for me. So for anybody that reads this comment, if you tried shift f10 you need to hold the function key shift and f10 and it should work. It work for me on a pre-built Lenovo yoga. 6.

One thing I noticed when I fresh installed Windows 11 on a new laptop was that it completely skipped the MS account login screen when it didn’t recognize any network drivers installed. So it was a similar situation as ending that task.

I can say that the first workaround has been in place since the release of Win11. Used to work in a computer repair shop and, when it came out, our lead techs scoured through forums and the system settings/command prompt/task manager to find workarounds, and within a week of release, we had mainstreamed this process. It's incredibly effective and saves massive headaches.

At that point, I'd recommend Libre Office or Google Docs, however there may be some compatibility issues when sending docs to MS Office users, plus there may be other features that you'd need.
