The crazy thing is Joe Hart at 36 years old, with the two league titles and an FA Cup under his belt, coupled with his experience playing in England, could drop down to League One or Two and be a major asset for a team looking to get over the hump and promoted to League One or the Championship. You can see why Santo didn't last at Tottenham, if that's how he talked to the players there that he didn't want/like. There are so many GKs who could still do a fantastic job into their late 30's and early 40's. David James was 37 when he won the FA cup at Pompey, Buffon was still winning leagues in his 40's and Shilton didn't get 125 England caps by stopping when he was 34.

Goalies have always fascinated me, such a unique position compared to the other 10 outfield players. Any other position players will get fairly regular game time whether through injuries, resting, rotation etc, 2nd choice goalies really rely on cup games to show what they can do. It's also really unique in the sense goal keepers can play easily into their mid to late 30's at high level. But they never seem to be appreciated quite like most outfield players do which is a shame. As a Spurs fan, players like Joe Hart should be talked about by City supporters in the same breath as Kompany, David Silva, De Bruyne IMO.

it's just how it works with keepers. most teams have 1st choice down to 4th choice sorted before pre-season.
it's such a vital position and the fact there's only one keeper makes it all the more difficult.
budgets are tight and no club will pay for a top keeper when they have four pros on the books. harsh reality of goalkeepers

I was pretty upset when he left. Then the summer rolled around and we had those group stage qualification games against Steau Bucuresti, and a winning streak to start the season. I slowly started to forget about Joe, even though Bravo was still dodgy. Then I remember we had a 3-3 draw away to Celtic, followed by a loss at Tottenham and 3 draws in close succession at the Etihad (EFC, Borough and Saints?). Some memorable loses started filtering in, including at Everton, vs/at Chelsea and at Leicester and I got upset again and started questioning why Joe was let go of like that for that clown Bravo. Anyways, upwards from that 2017 summer so it is what it is.

Sad how people talk about Joe Hart in the Prem. They forget how good he was. His prime wasn't long but during those years at City, he was brilliant. Of course he had his errors like every keeper but he was brilliant overall. Even before the season Pep joined and City finished 4th. Hart, Aguero and David Silva carried that team to 4th. Their backline was so trash, without him they would have finished 10th.
I think most just remember his England days and tbh he wasn't good but looking at England during Euro 2012 and 2016 and WC 2014, who was any good in that squad? Not to mention when Pep kicked him out and most assume he was trash or lucky. It blows my mind honestly.

Unfortunately for Joe, he reached his peak much earlier than keepers do normally. At City, we City fans saw the shortcomings in his game that just grew and grew. Main fault to his game that he couldn't get down to his left quick enough to save shots and opponents used to target this. Once they did that his worth lessened for top clubs and Joe was always going to be a bit player wherever he went.
