Having just got back into all this after 25 years, I last repaired a TV/Video recorder/satellite box, and thanks Joey.. your channel popped up on my home page and now I have a fully functioning hot air, microscope rework station at some reasonable cost, I am now thinking at 55 y/o WTF am I doing, all the gear, no idea... What I will say about this video is that you must carry on, you have the skill and reasoning far beyond what I had back in the day and I did alright. Keep on it chap.
the profit/loss balance is interesting to see, but it would be even more interesting to compare the amount of time you spent for the repairs.
I've always thought about it, but time will always be hard to track as I'm recording everything also. I don't think it would be a true representation of how long it takes me to do the repairs! Maybe I'll be able to figure something out :)

Joey, I'd 100% try and narrow down and replace the offending capacitor array that's getting hot Ive seen one replaced before (taken from donor) and fixed the console!, the corner damage of the apu is only minor.
I'd definitely give it a shot nothing to lose on this board.

Hey Joey,
I noticed your struggle with the ground pads of the QFN IC of the first Xbox. Little tip for that: It looked to me like there was too little heat. Since they're ground pads, there's a lot more thermal mass and you need to leave the iron there like two, three seconds longer to transfer enough heat from the iron to the pad. Solder will flow a lot better with sufficient heat.
Great video as always. Perhaps Phil can replace the APU on that PS5 to restore it to its former glory.

amazing video as always! Does the retimer chip in a xbox one s, give a similar value if faulty?
not sure if its just me but it looks like one off the capacitor arrays just right of the APU looks cracked aswell maybe worth checking that just incase.
You do have a lot of spare ps5 around, is it not possible to swap the APU?
You should invest in a hdmi signal tester handy to have and not expensive to buy

At the end of this series, are you going to make working versions of all the spare parts you are amassing during this time?
Some of them are long gone! Maybe I'll do a stock take and take the average of each item (HDD, Disc Drive, PSU etc) and include that
It's better practise to inject a bit higher voltage earlier in order to save you some time. Low voltage won't get the components hot enough in order to see them.
If you go too high and the short is through some silicon you are likely going to fry it.
Where do you buy quality parts from?
those are capacitor arrays.
Can you not take an APU off a donor board?

Hey Joey! For soldering tips you should really look into a knife edge tip as that will give you the most clearance when soldering the retimer chip legs.

ALL components are cracking and faulting easily nowadays, Planned Obsolescence on modern electronics, taking advantage of costumers hunger for products and lack of accountability to those companies. Shame.
