The reason he couldn't jump high enough to pull himself up is because a suit like that nowadays would weigh about 40lbs, back when this takes place the suits would weigh at least 50-60lbs or more if lead lined for possible radiation protection. No clue if anyone else mentioned this, but all the comments I saw were about restaurants.
And I bet he has more equipment on him which is why he runs so slowly from the monster
Plus, there's still the question of how to get back up the long vertical tunnel after that. Even if he could get up in there, he can't fully go up.
Good Catch. I didn't even think of that!
@@columnarcarp7825 also the cam
Maybe also his scuffed shoulder.
The scream is horrific. The fact it went from speaking as like a lore, then flips to this animalistic scream once it sees people. Gives me chills.
I can totally agree
Even more unsettling is that it's not just mimicking human voices but their encounters.
Think of a creature that has never seen humans before. It would be listening to them, paying attention to them. It would hear them speaking normally, maybe even confused the longer the are in the Backrooms. Then, when the humans come face to face with the creature; the humans would scream in terror at it.
while it's possible the creature may be luring humans intentionally, it may believe this is how humans great each other. Because that is what humans did when they first saw it.
it thinks screaming at you is how to say hello.
@@pseudodonn7478 That’s a lot more sad, dudes just lonely bro

Just like 096
i find it interesting that the monster only charged at him when he whispered to himself "that's not a person" like now it knew to stop luring and attack because it wouldn't be able to lure him anymore.
No his mind was racing and so couldn't react right at first, it's like when you have a panic attack because you cant speak.

*IMPORTANT! MUST READ*
Mat, hear me out, something that almost no one has realised is that whenever someone goes near the monster or something similar to it they always start COUGHING. Look throughout the whole series, from the first video to the last. It points to the evidence that you're right! It is an evolved and mutated string of hay bacillus. Check it out!
In Lockdown video they find the corpse with ‘mold’ spreading from it, gave rise to the first Bacteria monsters
I mean, he just ran for his live in a 20 or 30kg hazmat suit, he could just be coughing from exhaustion and accidentally inhaling spit.
@@vit.budina yes but it happens every. Single. Time. In all the episodes, check it yourself
I was about to say the same thing. I was wondering why these guys start coughing in almost every video but now it makes sense.
@@nakedfrijoles they could be stressed
The tiny room at the front of a restaurant with a second door is to do 2 things, 1 keep street noise out, and 2 reduce drafts when the outer door is open.
And help keep flies out. That's why there's usually a fan there as well.

I like Mirror Matt's theory, I initially thought that whatever was calling out in the neighborhood area was echoing what Marv was yelling. Starts out with him sounding like he's screaming/falling down, then he yells CAN YOU HEAR ME which Marv literally yells too. And then even the monster itself looks like a messed up creation of the camera man, holding a camera and everything as he barrels towards him. Seems like the backrooms attempted to recreate Marv and replace him

@ The Pack Rat but it is less complicated
I'm really surprised that they didn't point out the coughing at the end, when me and my friends watched this for this first time, we theorized so much about why he needed to cough that badly. It's possibly due to exhaustion and inconvenient breathing mechanisms in the suit but considering that the doctor from the autopsy report also coughed after being in touch with the bacteria, Mark might have just been infected. I mean, he was wearing a suit but it's possible that it has been damaged during the slide.

There's something that genuinely scares me about how well it mimics a human voice up until that realisation of "that's not a person". And that's such a realistic response, that moment of shock and realisation just stating it factually in horror, it feels like how I would respond in that situation.
Mimic scared of a mimic, ironic
Honestly, I think most people would freeze in visceral terror
That’s exactly the reaction I would have in my realistic lucid nightmares. I would think I was awake and with my family until the feeling of absolute demonic dread where I realized they weren’t my family.
Totally. Reminds me of an isekai manga I read where the one of the native animals would yell, "Help me," while hunting to lure humans.
Theory: all of the sounds the creature makes are copied from people it has encountered. First the calling for help... then the screams once it catches them.
Man in footage: "I think I broke something in my shoulder."
Matpat: JUST JUMP FOURHEAD, CAN'T YOU DO ONE ARM PULL UPS IN YOUR HAZMAT WHILST CARRYING A 90s CAMCORDER? SHEESH.
While also wearing a probably 50 pound hazmat suit.
Pulled not broke but yeah
One thing I thought was so clever is where the camera is sometimes brought to look backwards from where they came and it’s so real feeling like how a person would do it just suspiciously looking behind them wary of their surroundings.
the thing that impresses me the most about all of these videos is how natural the movement of the video recordings are. ive never seen a movie that gets quite how it would look for an amature to record something with a handheld camera, especially while moving. but somehow these videos feel so precisely like someone is holding the camera.
I think the Backrooms is a perfect example of the power of the Creative Commons license and open sourcing. The backrooms started out as a creepypasta, evolved into video games, and now a video that is possibly becoming a movie.
And possibly becoming in real life
There’s this episode of a tv show called the many place, and has what I think is a backrooms reference
Well,that happens sometimes
The shouts at 44:08 - 45:23 are exactly identical in every possible way. No human or any creature that is capable of dynamic, complex communication would ever do that. That thing is absolutely just mimicking another person, probably whoever left those shoes and backback.
The more interesting thing to me is, that it seems like it wasn’t just a person, but persons. There is only one pair of shoes, but there seems to be two chairs in the room, and the monster does mimic the line “Please help us” saying that they may have been more then one, if so where is this other persons stuff? Did they fell victim to the mimic or are they still wondering around the levels?
It’s the character Kane’s lines from the first Back Rooms video
45:33 Sounds to me like the entity actually says "-- It's one big monolog of screaming---"
The monster could have created a call to lure in humans(prey) after hearing someone trapped in the backrooms
@@TeslaOsiris the first video happened in 1996
I’m weirded out by how smooth everything is in the neighborhood. Like the lack of texture is intentional and gives me chills
the close up on the backpack gave me "this is a computer generated object, without the final textures added" vibes, especially after they had just discussed that it was difficult to tell what was real and not in these videos
It’s also very weirdly colored, it’s very dreamlike.
Glad I'm not the only one who got freaked out by the neighborhood. I couldn't explain what made it so creepy to me but I think you're right that lack of...anything really added to that creep factor. It looked exactly like a dollhouse, so smooth and unrealistic that it gave me the serious heebejeebes
ngl looked like someplace I went to in middleschool to learn about jobs. Very nostalgic
It’s like a VR game
Can i just say I enjoy that the Async employees actually seem like decent people. I believe it was George down below, but when he heard what sounded like a person looking for help he seemed genuinely concerned.

Here’s a cool F-F (Fun-Fact) for you guys: the ‘bird call’ noises aren’t birds, that’s electromagnetic interference, and it makes the whole video even more realistic
Kane knows his stuff
Edit: oKAY that’s a lot of likes
Thank you?
why do you think its still kickin around and very popular still ESPECIALLY With smart folks like matpat
I don't remember there being electromagnetic interference
@@toainsully That's the weird *blueb-blueb-blueb* noise you hear in the background as they enter the threshold room.
Science!
I saw Kane before he was really popular with the aot realistic videos
One thing I really like about the Backrooms is how the guys exploring just kind of talk to each other. Other stuff usually has them being completely silent until something happens, but here these guys will just make idle chatter about schedule changes or whatever. It's completely unimportant but I like that it's there.
Yeah I really like the pacing on Kane pixels' videos. There's not one scare after another, there's time to get to know how the characters are feeling before that mood is disrupted
@@mabelsan1133 Yea, it almost brings character to the people in the video, like they are actual people working there for their jobs.
One of them actually says, “You don’t think that there are monsters in here. Do you?”
Though the voice was muffled by the racial mask, you can kind of make the words out
I think you missed a major part of the story, the room that Marv goes into after he goes past the threshold doors is the same room we see in Informational Video.
Really? I thought it looked different. That would be interesting tho, I might need to re-visit.
@@Dragab1119 I really think there is some sort of time morphing in the backrooms
@@Dragab1119 I would say the only difference between the way it looked is because in the informational video it looked abandoned. They quite literally ARE the same room
That's because it is.
A couple of more things about the 'unreality' of the 'neighborhood':
- who builds houses right in between two tunnels like that? Especially that many all basically right on top of one another.
- Those stars are *way* too bright. There's no way a camera like that should have captured starlight.
Which adds to the disturbingness, since this... Whatever it is must have a fairly sophisticated and complete level of knowledge/awareness of our world to know about such a subtle detail enough that they can emulate a night sky (however badly).
Also, what did this thing predate on before the people came along?
It's a warped reality that is seperate from our reality meaning the world doesnt follow our flow of time and you're trying to understand this place, there is no understanding and obviously it has always existed because there's no entropy or things aging, heck there's lights and they are always on so I wouldn't try overthinking this place.
@@artistanthony1007 yes its a warped space time

This is hands down my favorite one in the series so far because we get to see it from the scientists in the suits’ perspective and how this creepy dimension leaves them in a constant state of paranoia and fear of what they’ll run into
Ya, its kinda how we view the scp stuff sometimes. They often are written from the scp group's prospective. A lot of the time they know whats going on, but the scariest ones are the ones the foundation cant figure out.
@Don't Read My Profile Photo um ok 😐
My favourite is still the original found footage video, but this is a very, _very_ close second. I feel like Kane's next long form episode will surpass it.
@Don't Read My Profile Photo got it, i wont
Just to point something out. The thing yelling “hello can anyone hear me” is the same person from where he got separated from his group snd found that weird separate small room with the axe
It’s not that guy…he never uses those exact phrases.
But guess who does: character Kane from the first Back Rooms video
Didn’t that character make it back to the base that A-Sync set up though?
It seemed like he time traveled into the future and found his way back to the base that they had set up in that future.
@@JudeBoi1313 that’s my interpretation of events
@@TeslaOsiris
Same here.
If that is the case I wonder how far into the future he travelled and what A-Sync’s reaction would be. A missing scientist just suddenly showing up out of nowhere thinking very little time has passed.
@@JudeBoi1313 Note about the future: the Pitfalls video was a reupload, as there was some audio errors. In the original video you could hear music at around 11:30. That music was Kids, by mgmt (you can still hear a small part of it). That song came out in 2007, and the pitfalls obviously took place in 1990
36:50 regarding this whole situation:
1. He did try jumping, hes probably carrying a tank of some sort to breath, hence why we hear it (breathing) so often and why they have turtle backs
2. Handing him a rope would not work because the slide is slanted and even if he could reach it
if hes carrying a tank to breath, how come kane in the first video didnt asphyxiate and die?
@@MEANLEANBEAN it's the whole reason one would wear a tank. Kane did die and they don't know why. They know the air is normal, but they don't know if all of it is normal. That's why the engineers at the door don't wear suits, because they don't have to worry.

He did a great job reading the squished backwords words, understandably missing "actually" but getting the viral info in general. Clap and a half!
And the first word wasn’t reading, it was recording.
@@Nitsua16 huh, I thought it said “regarding”
49:49 I think it takes from legends like the Wendigo who mimics the last words of its victims in an attempt to lure others to it or to unsettle prey it’s already found. The monster stopped doing the lure when the scientist found it and instead reverted to roaring in an attempt to intimidate him into messing up so it could catch him.
One of the victim’s last words was “whooo!”
That’s exactly what I think
Interior design major here, the room at the front of restaurants is a vestibule. It’ll often have a entry mat to limit dirt from foot traffic, and has a fan that keeps the air when opening the door from moving into the building. Usually saves a decent bit on hvac.
@Don't Read My Profile Photo shut
As a kid, I would sometimes just stand by the fan to cool off. lol
The message matpat had thought said Surely or something else actually says “while data could be inferred from these readings, nobody knew what would actually be found on the other side”, I know I’m a little late to this but I feel proud of myself for maybe helping! :)
I saw a very interesting comment on that video when i watched it, let me quote it here
"The fact that the monster in this video(1990) sounds so clean compared to how it did in the first video(1996) makes me believe that it didn't "mimic" the sounds of its victims, but just recorded them onto a SINGLE track until all it had was the incoherent screaming of dozens, if not hundreds of people." - The Dude (yes that is his username)
30:34 they should have crawled along the narrow paths between the pits
32:20 the word is ACTUALLY.
"While data could be inferred from these readings, nobody knew what would actually be found on the other side"
I figured it out almost immediately, so watching him fail to figure it out was so frustrating lol
It was really
Someone posted a very important observation under Kane’s video. Presumably, the monster cannot generate a voice on its own and is instead *recording* the voice(s) of its victim(s) which it can then play back in an attempt to lure further prey and/or communicate (think what in real life the lyrebirds of Australia can do). As a consequence of this logic, the disturbed screaming we hear after it chases after Marv is NOT the monster directly, but is instead the recorded screams presumably of the prior victim that was caught. That is to say it is playing back the death screams of the man that we can assume is another one of the missing persons that has inadvertently no clipped into the backrooms after project KV31 tore open a rift to the backrooms (the same one that was using the blue chairs and cardboard). This would also indicate that the monsters are not sentient, though there is the possibility that they are the apex predators of the backrooms.
well if it is just recording the sounds of victiems and it doesnt undersatant what they are than how is it not playing any of the sound of when the person was runing from it screaming and just uses voices that enables it to lore people?at the very least it kinda understants what it should says and that mean it is sentient but how much?probably not a lot and did you notice that it says ( does anybody hear "us")?the victim was probably not alone and why is he just using that voice and just that one line(i say this cuz i hear it say this same twice)?who knows
Australia = backrooms confirmed
It could also explain the sound the monster makes in the first video where Kane clips into the Backrooms. It's killed so many people by then that all the sounds overlap and no longer sounds much like people.
I have a theory:
Those house numbers on the floor may mean that perhaps someone is actually surviving down there and they keep trying to escape. Maybe they are ripping off the numbers of houses they have been on already yet found nothing that could aid them, so they keep venturing more and more and maybe (its just a guess) the person left because the monster found them. And maybe the monster is trying to replicate the person's cries for help to make others go to it.
Yes
I think that it had a more morbid end; when the monster found the person, the person couldn't escape, and the screams are their final moments.
I love how Kane always posts RIGHT after you do one of these...
He's already got a new video out
I think perhaps there actually *was* someone living down there, and in an attempt to find their way out (down the corridor where the creature appears), they ripped the numbers off doors so they could map out the tunnels. Eventually, the creature finds them and kills them, perhaps even absorbing them into itself?
If you look at 47:59 at the right wall it looks a bit like the mold from the episode where they found the corpse with the bacteria, so maybe they died there because of that and turned into the monster
@@theenchantedteapot5882 I don’t think that’s the case of it being mold on the wall, I think it’s the chipped parts of the wall paper like in the room just before. But it could be.
Yeah. Nobody is talking about those numbers! I can't figure out why a person (of all things to do) try to rip them off, collect them, and for what purpose? Someone tell me please!
It mimics its victims
Oak Ridge Tennessee is a place where multiple atomic experiments took place during WW2. Quite a few scientific advancements were made in this small town. It is now demilitarized (supposedly) and is a peaceful and quiet town. With waterfalls and caves literally across the street from the elementary school, to acres of land dedicated to classified government operations. (Just a little fun fact for anyone who may not know. And yes, there is a waterfall that is directly across the street from a school. It is a 140 foot drop that flows into a cave.)
dude this was the only thing i was thinking about the entire video, cause Y12 is literally like a mile form my house lol
It also holds the world's 2nd fastest supercomputer, Summit (It was the fastest in the world from 2018 to 2020)
wonder how many little kids have been taken by the waterfall
He will never know the terror of watching this video unsynced with the audio, which makes the video "go past the time limit"...that fucking gave me chills the first time
At this point, MatPat really needs to have Kane over to talk about his process (or at least eventually he should). The same goes for the Corridor Crew.
Ever since the corridor crew stopped posting vlogs, I feel that they've become much less relevant .o.
A small note that "tour" doesn't need to mean a pleasure tour. It may be the thing we instantly jump to, but a tour can also be used in the context of working somewhere for a period of time, such as a tour of duty in the military.
What I'd get from that is that these agents are sent into the backrooms for extended periods of time, presumably before being cycled out.
That would make sense. It seems like it is difficult to intentionally enter and leave the backrooms, so it would be in their best interest to do it on a schedule instead of leaving a door open.
I *would* agree if it weren't for the fact that the tour only lasts for, like, five days. Plus, they're planning to do things after the tour, so I doubt it's talking about them.
The part I find chilling is that the entity didn't notice him at all when he yelled, but the moment he whispers to himself noticing it is not a person that the entity becomes aware of him.
Probably was waiting for him to get closer
Like a predator waiting to lull in prey
which leads me to believe it can't hear, but only see
or maybe it started to charge once it knew it couldn't lure him further?
@@supercharged5-39 could be, but he started to charge exactaly when he said "its not a person". Maybe a bit of both?
Maybe the entity was trying to evaluate if it could hunt the yellow thing in front of him (the scientist was using one of this huge hazmat suits), the entity has seen humans before is trying to lure them and hunt them but sees this yellow humanoid blob and wonders if thats a threat before sensing that the scientist got afraid, seeing it stop and go backwards. then it understood that this human-like yellow thing could be hunted
Its pure animalistic instinct, "can i eat that? or is it here to eat me?"
The pre-entrances you're talking about are vestibules, and yes they are functionally similar to mud rooms; cleaning shoes, fanning umbrellas, taking off coats, but they also serve purposes for temperature control and drafts, which is important for high traffic areas. Essentially you have patrons inside who want the place clean and temperate during their visit, and you dont want gust of wind going in and out of the building as other partons enter and exit. Having a room with two doors means that one closes as the other opens. On top of that modern vestibules can have a personal AC unit generating high wind pressure that makes sure that outside air stays outside and inside air stays inside.
This actually proves A theory that time is completely different here. That room was the same room the man who got lost entered into after being lost from his group. Meaning, he wasn’t in the same time as before he got separated. He was pretty much in the future, most likely when everything had already been stopped and shut down.
I love how Mirror Matt now has the confidence to join in with the theory crafting! He used to be more cautious on camera, cool to see his perspectives as well looking at these reactions
Two points of data about the "outside" area that I didn't see in a comment or hear the Matt's talk about. The no passing lines are actually painted around the manhole covers instead of just stopping at the edge, which is what a human road worker would do to save time and paint. Also the manhole covers are perfectly in the center point of the road all along the length. This is another "mistake" in the construction because sewer lines are constructed based on the necessity of the ground beneath the road and do not always make a perfectly straight path following the road above. Another thing I found interesting. The inverted signs were a mirror of the hallway out of the room where they were placed. So that could point to the construction being intended to reflect accurate directions but somehow still failing to be properly rendered or materialized? Just some food for thought.
I feel like its an imperfect mimic. Like it is mimicking the voices. Either way creeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeepy. Everything being mirrored and the outdoors looking more realistic than interiors seems oddly specific. It also suggests to me that this wasn't generated by whatever experiment, they came across something that's been generating a while.
The disturbing dream like quality to the neighborhood in the backrooms is honestly so good. I’m really impressed by how disturbing this is.
Edit: HOW IS MATPAT ABLE TO STAY SO CALM the creatures screaming……that’s a no from me bro ✨
45:42 the way his voice went from realization to dread was so incredibly genuine that i forgot it was acting. absolutely incredible💜
I personally think that someone nocliped into the backrooms and was actually living there, and that they had an encounter with the monster which ended up with them being killed most likely
And maybe the monster was repeating what this person said before dying or just things that the monster heard them say in general
As the monster keeps repeating the same thing and it's sounds pretty similar each time, like not very natural, you know?
But that's just my thoughts
I think that's what it is. One Sounds like a man and the next scream like a woman.
The monster screams definitely sound like a person in A LOT OF PAIN being recorded.. Like they are literally beating eaten and screaming
The two reason I can think of for having a front room in a restaurant are: limits heat and AC loss from doors opening and closing, and stops pets/children from running out of the building.
Or keep animals from running in the building
can confirm the heat and ac lost is the main reason
in texas they are in almost any non small buisness especially resturaunts and large buildings tht are stolres like walmart
Also waiting space for people who want a table
I usually saw those type of front rooms near the drive thru window, so that way people could see before opening the door and stepping out right in front of a car. Aligns with the “stops pets/children” thought.
Fun Fact: Kane is also the one producing the soundtracks for this series as well, so not only is he creating things that look real, hes making the songs and probably sounds as well for this series
Kane’s videos were the best
Tv Orangeman best OED Original Entity Design.
I'm such a fanboy, I immediately recognized that the street level was level 9, a very dangerous level. Also the video has silent hill as a game
yeah i hope in a future video they add the neighborhood watch
Doesn’t work because level 9 is said to either be empty houses or well furnished rooms, and this is neither it’s a completely normal house on the outside but it couldn’t get the inside right at all and just put things it knows inside
iirc that's from the wiki canon, which is different from kane's videos. related possibly, but the wiki canon shouldn't be the end-all for kane's videos.
In the original upload, you could clearly here MGMT "kids" playing over the radio in the room with the "monster". Which was interesting as that's a song from 2007, I wonder if it was removed due to its inclusion being in error, or copyright shenanigans
Probably copyright but its very interesting because if this takes place in the 90s then this song would not exist yet implying these backrooms exist in a place seperate from time or space.
It definitely hints at time travel or some sort of temporal fluctuation in the backrooms.

All the windows in the houses glowed red, one fact that it was a simulated col de sac
"Does anybody hear me?" Is a voice of a first backrooms person who recorded it.

The moment the guy saw that...thing...and said, "That's not a person" followed by the screaming it did, I immediately thought of Dead by Daylight's newest killer, The Dredge. Even the residential street and rooms being wrong made me think of how "The Entity" tries to recreate locations on earth but doesn't understand them and gets things wrong. (I think I have been playing it way too much, lol.)

I think something matpat is missing is the Progression, in the first science video they just had a rope, and now they have radios, likely as a consequence for the one guy disappearing, so that if they do get separated they can still communicate
When Marv the researcher has the interference with the radio and music begins to play, I believe in the original release of the video the song Kids by MGMT is playing over the radio. Obviously removed for copyright purposes, but that means that somehow that radio was playing a song from 2007 in what is supposed to be 1990 I believe? This dimension also somehow splits over time as well, and the rabbit hole just keeps going deeper.
is it possible to see that footage or
@@tobysinbad I’m sure there is a way, I just don’t personally know how to do it. The original video was taken down on copyright claims a couple hours after it was posted, and then it was reposted without the music. 😕
That’s actually really interesting
I see the person in the house as being someone who fell into the back rooms and was taken over by the bacteria and turned into a monster. We do hear Marv talk about null zones which could be what they call clipping zones and the potential for that to be a side effect. We also see in the room in the house cardboard as well as a backpack and shoes suggesting someone was there for a while. Maybe they’re still alive down there but no longer human. 🧐 also wanted to point out that I agree this serious in incredible with the sound and vfx as well as the natural camera movement and editing!!! So cool!!
The monster seems very adapt at doing two things, running and talking/screaming, which is what id suspect most humans would do when they first noclip in, I think that the backrooms is trying to copy only exactly what it knows about humans. And because humans are diverse it isnt able to come up with a body very well, but what it can do is replicate a basic framework of what is very similar among humans, like bones. Wrapped around the bones/framework of the monster might be a very crude version of either a circulatory or muscular system. I havent looked enough into my last statement but, because the backrooms is trying to replicate life, it might not know the functions or structure of organs, if so, then it could explain why the monster doesnt seem to have any eyes or ears or anything else.
Humanoid screems seems more of a luring mechanism to me because the screams and calls for help were repeated almost perfectly. So it seemed more like something instinctualy making the same noises without knowing the meaning behind them.
One of the only times ive been scared, my body filled with adrenaline and i felt like the guy running from that bizzare monster we see. Masterpiece.
I’ll bet the monster knows he’s there, and was luring him down further and further into the backrooms to make him one of them. Maybe that’s Kane, turned into a bacteria monster by the one that came before him. And the weird living space found right before the monster was where Kane was held, right before he was transformed
(P.S. thanks theorist team for giving me theory skills)
Chronologically, it's still 3 years before Kane clips in. It could be that missing ASync scientist though, the one that got separated and lost.
No it's the same creature, not Kane.
The screams from whatever was chasing the guy is actually really creepy, first time getting scared in.. years xD
Ikr?? Whoever did those sounds deserves an award or something.
same. those really startled me.
agree, it's super haunting o-o
Sound like a man being ripped apart screaming and being recorded
So far I have noticed, which also gives some meaning for these reversed signs, that all the messages and sounds should be taken in reverse. Someone screaming for help and to come, means to not get close and go away from it. In the very first video, we also see a message to stand still, which won't work as we have witnessed.
Where the scientist ended up climbing back up looked very similar to where the fungus/bacteria infected body was found in a separate video. He even started coughing when he was getting back up (maybe a tear in his suit from when he fell while running away?)
So my theory is that the body of the person that the autopsy is done on in a different video is the body of the person who was living there that got infected by whatever organism is in this place. Likely even in the same spot that the researcher had fallen down in this video, only in that video where they find the body the wall has been pulled back down. Maybe as a last resort of that person to separate himself from whatever monster he had found.
I got NONE of that. What?
Can I just point out at 18:40 as the camera guy is about to go through the portal, you see the other man inside and it appears that he's moving very slowly as the camera pans up, and as camera guy gets closer and goes through the portal, the man seems to speed up, as if we was walking the whole time. Maybe time inside the backrooms is slower than in the real world?
Love how canonically in the Backrooms lore earth and this universe is called "The Frontrooms", so Mat was correct with his intro line even tho they were questioning what it meant.
A “front room” is good at keeping the weather out, in my experience.
Helps with wind, rain, mud, snow. It keeps the ‘actual’ restaurant less disturbed by the elements as people come and go
When you were talking about the Frontrooms, it’s ACTUALLY meant to be Earth. Read the wiki for more information!
He's trying to avoid reading on "canon" backrooms lore since kane pixel's KV13 is not entirely lore friendly and diverges a lot
yes >w<
it is indeed earth
Which is good because the “canon” backrooms wiki is full of random garbage and over the top goofy entities written by 6 year olds
The wiki is a mess I wouldn't recommend going there for any backroom lore
Obviously
The concept of being trapped in the "Front Rooms" Seems like a scarier alternative. Imagine being able to see outside once you step into the "Front Room" And you go to leave.. Yet you walk into the same room, yet the outside has subtle changes every time.
The front rooms are our universe
Something I noticed at the end is that the cameraman, Marv, seemed to be infected at the end. I wonder if it has to do with him wandering into the dimension he was in. The monster probably used the random items to lure him in. So he could spread the mold.
Probably got it from the living space
The front room was used a lot in older buildings as a wind catch; or as what is equivalent to an airlock. They use them up here in NY state to prevent cooled or heated air escaping as well, and to prevent cold wind blowing directly into the occupied part of the building.
Vestibules are a bit more common in businesses than personal homes though, so their point is intact- it looks like a house, but with commercial features grafted onto the residential facade- like the weird carport lookin canopy shape outside, the vestibule, the weird signs..
The way the creature calls out reminds me of the... entity? thing... in the Doctor Who episode, Midnight. But faster, I guess. Starts by simply mimicking speech back, then learns to speak as it continues to get responses. Really disconcerting, the entity in that episode was always one of the creepiest things in Doctor Who to me. That moment of "that's not a f*cking person" was such a horrifying moment, so much anxiety in that ending. NEED MORE.
I’ve never seen matpat so unsettled and quiet for so long
Because he knew as well, ‘That’s not a %@#$+&= person!’
31:00 Mat being able to read this kind of thing on the fly without photoshop help blows my mind. I'm sure with enough time I could read it too but he just blazes through it.
And the one word he couldn’t read (which was actually) was the only one I could read
Can't wait to watch your reaction to this one!
Edit: The ledge actually is fairly high up. If you aren't trained into being able to pull your body up you'd struggle with that, a lot of people can't do pull ups let alone pull themselves up from a ledge, and on top of that he's injured. He's also wearing a bulky heavy hazmat suit so that'd make it harder, and he's holding a camera. Needing a rope seems reasonable. It also makes sense they'd need to go back for such a rope because they probably intended to fall into areas one is needed.
^This, I'm surprised MatPat was so disbelieving over such a detail. There was also the fact that the researcher told the others he pulled something in his shoulder; even if he could make the jump from that distance with all of his equipment, he wouldn't be able to pull himself up regardless.
I have so many questions after this, where does that door across the pitfalls lead, where does the straight path go once you fall in the pit before turning outside, is the “outside area” actually outdoors with wind and an outdoor environment or is it designed to look that way, where does the the rest of the house lead, what is on the other side of the outside if you go through the next street pipe, where do all the other pitfalls lead, do the other pitfalls have the same depth, what happens if you break through one of the walls, what will be on the other side? There are so many things I wonder and it’s amazing how much depth they put into such a simple concept.
My literal worst fear ever is the idea of something mimicking my family members and then the moment I realize it isn't them it starts screaming like that. I had a dream like that when I was like 6 years old and never forgot it.
The briefcase at the end was attached to a rope that looked very much like a limb of the monster.
I REALLY like the A.I. angle. It could be that the first level of the Backrooms is something like the A.I. realized very early on "Humans exist here" so it attempted to generate that space over and over trying to get humans to come into existence. Maybe the reasons the Backrooms is always shifting isn't that it "mutates", it just found the limits of it's "playspace" so now it has to overwrite unsuccessful attempts.
I don't know why, but I think of Strongholds in Minecraft. They keep trying to generate a portal room, but if they get unlucky, it will just continue to generate and generate a million levels if it has to
Nah. It doesn't look lime the limb of the monster imo. Its too smooth to look like it imo
@@rafalst yeah, I agree. I think the rope is just that, a rope
he havent had any confirmed shifting yet
@@RosyKitteh Minecraft strongholds start their generation with the portal so you comparaison doesn't really work
I thought it was interesting that at the end of the video after getting into the shaft Marv started coughing. They were pretty harsh coughs to so I was torn between thinking they were just from exertion or they could mean that Marv could've breathed something in while he was deeper in the rooms?
Yeah going along with the fungus or bacteria theory. If that is true he could have inhaled smaller particles
I might be mistaken but before Marv realised that the monster was a monster it sounded like it was laughing between imitating the calls for help
The dude kept coughing at the end. Now either he was just running and is now exhausted OR when he fell his suit broke and the spore got in his lungs.
There is a book on this called ''The Backrooms: A Quaint Nightmare" from Sebastian Schug. I really recommend it because it has a slightly different perspective on Backrooms, explores levels and really a fun book. Took me six hours to finish it.
Thanks for the recommendation!
where can I buy it?
@@_light_7605 the backrooms
Theory: If the backrooms is almost like... "unprepared levels", or a giant system of assets, like the world being created digitally... could these monsters we see actually simply be early versions of humans? These things are the 'demo' version of humans, before receiving their polish and full scripting!
This is actually a good theory. Sort of like a matrix
like just the bones not the models?
They wish they were. They’re trying
It's obvious from the start that all these looks like an incomplete level from a video game or more like a space were unused assets resides and those monsters were Bone tool which is being used to allow 3d assets to be animated.
Entity 1 Bacteria, the first monster wanderers encounter
When they mentioned how the back room seems to badly imitate human thing with our understanding them I had an idea. What if those aren’t imitations if the things but instead the rejects. When something glitches or goes wrong and ends up messing something up like the inverted sighs then their sent to the back rooms and replaced with perfect replicas. The reason there’s only one thing is because humans don’t glitch as much as other things, the thing is one of the few instances of a human glitching. The reason it’s screaming and seemingly in distress is because it’s still sentient and probably in pain as it’s body is contorted into some mess of what it once was. It chases the people because it wasn’t help or some way to get out but because if it’s glitched state it ends up hurting them or seeming like a threat.
Btw, in the first video you reacted to (where the filming kid falls into the backrooms) the monster is screaming:
"No!" , "Wait!" , "Don't Go!" , "Come back!" repetedly in random order.
You can kind of make out the words.
Everything in the "sleeping area" aside from the cardboard on the floor looks brand new- like it's never even been on a sales floor, let alone used for any duration. Was even that "generated"?
Also, there prob were more than two humans, two chairs and everything
It's the Backrooms, remember entropy doesnt exist there so it was always brand new and obviously the Backrooms has existed forever.
Mat Pat: I feel like they would strap in a harness or something.
Mirror Mat: It was the 90s. OSHA didn't exist.
Actually Mirror Mat... it did exist. OSHA was signed into law in the 70s.
I almost wish that Kane would take a super realistic approach to the dialogue in a situation like this, where Marv would relay, in-detail, what it was like at the bottom of the hole.
how would that dialogue go?
@@Cocoaben Just describing his environment more. Make it sound more human with some "Uhhh"s, "Like"s, and other stuff.
I get that Marv has a camera and he thinks the camera is sufficient to show off his environment when he got back up (as he was thinking about it) but he is exploring a poorly understood environment, all-alone and still has radio comms to his team. What happens if he manages to break his leg (just a wild example) and his team needs to come down after him? Is he going to remember the way from the hole to his position while he's in pain?
I could see the backrooms concept having a movie with a sequel. It's just so freaking cool. Same thing with SCPs
32:14 "While data could be inferred from these readings, Nobody knew what would actually be found on the other side."
That is indeed what the text says at 32:14 in the video.
maybe the house numbers were a way for the other people lost in the backrooms to know where they had already gone to, or maybe to breadcrumb their way into the maze and coming back to this “safe spot” to rest. even though it’s not super effective, cause the monster could easily kick it or someone else could take it, as a makeshift technique for desperate people to navigate the place would be useful.
This monster in the red street kinda reminds me of the partygoers... I know that Kane has cut off the old backrooms lore but still. The party sounds, imitating people, etc
my ADD medicine boosts any and all emotions when I use it. right now, watching this video having taken it an hour ago, I have never felt as tense as when he went into the house. I appreciate you guys making these videos, just watching it together. the dissecting of it and inspecting every bit makes you go slow which makes it a bit easier to keep up with the info and gather the courage to keep going, and your non stop commentary makes us feel less alone/scared when watching it. I wouldn't be able to watch these things alone, but that'd be a shame as it's such a piece of art. thanks
yeah, i am not really into horror, but watching this with the mat's is pretty chill
I really like that the ‘front rooms’ joke led to an eight minute conversation about repurposing old fast food restaurants.
I very much appreciate the Hamilton reference at 11:33 when Matt starts the backroom video ❤️😂
backroom
also the name of the chapter in the video
@Don't read profile photo
BE GONE BOT
I was checking to see if anyone else noticed before I said something
This is genuinely the first time I’ve actually been scared watching a backrooms video
I think I found an interesting detail, if you look at 47:59 at the wall an the right, you can see the same grayish texture there like when they found the corpse in the mold I think. Maybe the person who used to survive down there died because of the bacteria fungi stuff and then turned into that thing. I could be wrong but it sounds like the two times it calls out it's just the exact same audio... like it's perhaps mimicking what it's heard?
“Frontrooms” are usually called foyers. Except the restaurant thing; that’s an airlock
In rust do you use 3 door airlocks or 2 door airlock
I love how the banter is just about a dads journey with his teenage almost adult kid
My guess is the "null zones" are like spots where people could possibly noclip into the backrooms.
Huh that makes sense
As well as darker walls are no clip areas
It seems like the backrooms can replicate non living objects better than it can organisms, the monster also seems to be replicated with only a few lines and moving in a very robotic way, which can be compared to an ai/npc in a video game
I mean, its like if you saw a wall and a person and tried to replicate it just from seeing it
It looks like a wireframe that moves.
