I get the feeling that Fancy play tested this and got lucky on his first time getting through the end, so he just assumed "Yeah, that works" and didn't realize it was precise as it is.
A game should never be tested by the devs themselves, they know what to do and how eveything works so it's already expected that they will perform better.
this could be a case study on why having play-testers is so important haha

Bruh the fact that they’re making Ollie a leaf book is so unreasonably cute. He’s gonna be that one kid in kindergarten that just,,,,knows stuff. Like knows so many random things and the other kids are gonna be like WOAAAAH whenever he decides to drop some obscure fact about whatever’s going on that day

At first I was confused why the walkthroughs were so rude and vague but as Matt kept playing, it started making more sense

I think the fact that they talked about her a lot this episode didn't help. You can tell he misses not being able to spend as much time with her. It's sweet but also sad. Working and being a parent takes a lot out of you.

I wish we could get an GT actually live. I never got to see one. When ever I click on a gt live video a small part of me hopes for it to be live :( However, I still appreciate everything Matt and the team put out! And I know that they are all working really hard to put out the best possible content whilst handling their own lives and I know we the theorist community all love and appreciate them for that!

Still waiting for you to try out the 'backrooms' world in VR Chat. It's a good puzzle game, and gets pretty scary! I had to rely on some kids to help me through some parts, and we all fell apart at the scariest part!

you have to run to the window. I watched Stumpt play through this. That's what they had to do. Either the video you were watching is from an old version, or it is from a later version you don't have yet. It could also be random chance, like one person said, but if that were the case, you would probably already have gotten past the hall by now. it would have to be a 50% chance or something. One does not simply waltz out of level Fun.
You should really check out the wikis about the Backrooms, this game has multiple references to it and they came even before the Kane Pixels series
The main wikis are the Fandom and WikiDot. Both the Fandon and WikiDot follow different canons, so there may be inconsistencies across them, but just know that no canon is more real than the other

I don't think so cause the game grumps walk-through tolled them to just do a mad dash in the end and also told them to use that side hallway to re-orient the partygoers in the big room no of which popped up in the walk-through matpat used.

my mom had a really cool leaf book that she made when she was a kid waaay back in the early 70s (I think she might still have it? I hope she does, I liked it a lot) that she used to pull out every fall and show us so we could play 'spot that leaf'
Can we please appreciate that the gameplay title for the scroll bar is literally a quote from Leslie Gore? If you’re confused and then you might be thinking of Melanie Martinez, she actually samples it for her song “pity party”. The original song is from Leslie and it’s called “it’s my party.”

I think the guy at the end that beat it was avoiding the detection box of the buy right next to the start of the hall, because it said earlier that they will chase you if you sneak near them for too long.
Hey Matt! I speedrun this game on my spare time cause I hate myself, and I agree the gameplay aspects can be outright miserable and repetitive at times. Just to confirm something you probably already know. When you are near the final hallway, you trigger the partygoers no matter what, so... yes, it is a scripted event. Love your videos, and I hope you try this game again! :)
For Steph's sake, it should also be noted as a speedrunner in this community, that all the walkthroughs are just awful. I recommend watching how other people complete these levels and try to mimic what they do as close as possible. Even though I am far from the best speedrunner in this game, that is how I learned.
Another fun fact about the Ginko plant, it is one of the few plants that is the same from the time when dinosaurs walked the earth. Back then it was pretty much everywhere.
you know I always love matpat and all the crazy theories him and his team make I find them funny intriguing and thought provoking Matt Pat and his videos along with Aaron and his letters have helped me through some of my most depressing times because they somehow always come out when I need them plus it's funny watching him play hard games and I hope him and his family have the best of times ahead
I was watching binging some of your older streams yesterday so I was used to seeing Steph by your side. Now, not seeing her here feels kinda weird. Love Ash too, they're awesome. It's just kinda like how you feel when eating a savory food in the middle of eating a sweet food or vice versa.
Well this was a fun one! On that note, I have a game suggestion for Mat! He'd absolutely love 'Return of the Obra Dinn'. It's a semi spooky game but has no jump scares, nothing can harm you, and the full focus of the game is uncovering the lore and discovering what happened on this ship. Mat enjoys dissecting stories and games, and actively hunting for the cause and effect in timelines, so this game would be PERFECT for a spoopy season game with no real scares, and full of LOREEEEEE! I don't wanna spoil anything in the game but the first major twist is so incredible, I think it'll have him hooked! it's a must play game, with interesting graphics to boot! Players are tasked with uncovering the mystery of the ship, figuring out the names and relationships of the crewmembers, and what caused their fates! It was practically made for a player with an analytic mind to piece together the puzzle. Might even have some good theory fodder in there too!
I would absolutely love to see him play that
Seeing Mat enter level fun without hesitation since he didnt know what that level contains is exactly what the partygoers want you to think when seeing the happy lights in a tense situation

If you wanna play this game again mat, at the very last part where you always got caught, don't sneak, just immediately run, don't look behind, don't pause, just run, and when you reach the end of the hallway, press the button, and the level is done. The youtuber named VanossGaming did this as a reference...Good Luck Mat!

I am SHOCKED that Arin “Skip-Tutorial” Hanson beat this game but Mat gave up.
Honestly though, this game needs a lot more work and is ridiculously unfair at multiple points. Plus, all of the walkthroughs are inconsistent. I don’t know why they were telling Mat to crouch; the walkthrough the Grumps followed made Arin sprint through those final hallways.

That Stephanie honey moon story made me laugh because I did exactly that for my first date with my girlfriend, we met in Syracuse and over two days we went to the zoo, an indoor amusement park, the mall, golden corral, an escape room, cheesecake factory, an outdoor amusement park, barnes and noble, dino barbecue and ice cream. Itwas a blast but like Mat said, you're signing up for an intense jam packed time

i want to see Matt go through the actual (followed, fanbase wise) lore of the backrooms, like the levels and not the commonly well known few rooms in games. it was nice to see level fun, and the rooms no one seems besides the deep fanbase talk about.
