Hey Matt, the paper in the fourth level wasn't saying you use your ears, it was saying the monster can only HEAR you. As long as you stand perfectly still it or crouch walk it won't be able to detect you.
If u crouch u can just walk past it but u should still be careful and stay still it's rare but I've died once by still crouch walking past it (edit ik ty for telling me it will still get you)

Don't know if someone else has said this, but also if you crouch and move around it can't hear you. Just be sure to stay out of its range, because touching it will definitely still get you killed.

4:08 to this cringe talk; there is validity to both Ash’s and MatPats points. Some cringe is celebrated, and some cringe is shaming others. It’s all about context. I agree with Ash that the cringe culture needs to stop shaming people for what they like, it’s very bad and negative.
17:10 "Why is it called noclip" Well, let me explain it in particular, even though I heard you guys Googleing minutes later. When you are making a 3D map/world, you have to clip (link) one object to another object. Because otherwise, the whole world would just fall apart like a bridge with one broken support stem. So basically the whole world is a chain of blocks. The thing is, clipping doesn't have to happen sometimes. Cus' you can balance everything like a bridge without any physical connection! Clipping is the insurance of chains 'within' the blocks; so the character, the person; or in this case, so that the Roblox Character you are moving "doesn't fall through the ground" because at that point there might be tiny holes that have no collision at all. You can fall through it, and that's why backroom concepts always use the word "noclip". So in conclusion, Noclip means "BYPASSING ALL CLIPS when it come to block connection; A STATE WHERE YOU ARE ABLE TO CLIP THROUGH (GOING THROUGH) ALL SORTS OF CLIPPED OBJECTS.

A lot of Backrooms content normally has the protagonist be a teenager/adult, but imagine being a child, taking your first steps, and suddenly you're in this endless yellow tinted area. Theres no way a child would make it out alive
Some advice for the level you're on: the keys can only spawn in the first 3 drawers of the cabinets. The monster can't see but can hear so try crouching and moving, when it's very close to you don't move at all you can still look around tho. When you're screen randomly goes dark it means you're out of stamina so stop running to regenerate it.

Hey! I see you didnt make it through the whole thing. For the third area (the one where you lost) the Monster can hear when you do stuff, but cant see you. So when he gets close to you, stop doing anything until he goes away.
For the fourth area, just keep going till you find the way out.
For the rest, I dont want to spoil it :)
I'd like to add on to the third area, it's much easier if you hold the crouch button to speed up progress because the monster can't hear you if you crouch and move.

In the third area, the entity still gets you when you're standing, so for a greater chance of surviving, crouch only.

Fun fact! The reason why it's called no-clip or no-clipping is because in games the clipping stuff stops you from going through the walls n stuff. Disabling that, or no-clipping as it's usually called, is basically where you can phase through anything and everything.
Edit: just watched into the future a bit and they explain it in the video orz
I remember playing that game before and the AI of the monsters is so infuriating. The monsters constantly move in your direction no matter where they are on the map until they get close enough to you, then they walk back and forth right by you waiting for you to move into view.
Never thought I’d see Matty Patty playing Roblox! Can’t wait to watch the video though!

its because before the backrooms became a horror themed thing, it was more of a dream core ish thing where people wanted to make images that seemed surreal or nostalgic, and then allot of devs were able to artistically build stuff like that- now its horror, and those same map makers could easily switch the tone for that accordingly
Roblox has some surprisingly scary games- not what you'd expect from it but this video shows how scary some of it is- but The Mimic jumpscares gave me nightmares.
It's so cool to see how far the game has come from this point, though it was a little painful watching him try to figure out how everything worked. Happy gaming!

Really want you to look into the full thing like the wiki. or broogli's explanation videos. There are entire cities, settlements and communities on some levels and hundreds of interesting entities both friendly and hostile
i 100% recommend you check out more roblox horror games. they are genuinly quite spooky, and with some of them, they're short enough that you can finish them in one gtlive video! some of the most ones are identity fraud, the mimic, dead silence, the asylum, and geisha!

Heads up to Mat -THE MONSTER IN THE THIRD LEVEL IS BLIND-
The poster with the picture of the eye crossed out and ears ticked is explaining how the monster works.
If you crouch walk the monster will not come after you and if you crouch and stay still your back ally invulnerable, even if the monster bumps into you. The lockers are entirely optional tbh.

I would like to recommend playing a nancy drew game. They are detective point and click games. I would specifically recommend the ghost of Thornton hall. It's an amazing game, and I would love to see your rection to it. 😊

@@Imtrying_girl depends on which games you're taking about. They started as PC games in 1999, but the newest PC game came out in 2019. The early ones you have to download in a special way to modern computers, but the newer games are really easy to start and play.

I recently finished Apeirophobia and a few notes (some helpful, some just little observations cuz I like the game):
In level 0 (Backrooms), in the most recent version of the game, there are 2 creatures, 1 blind, 1 not. The sighted one will find you and raise alarm to tell the blind one where you are.
Level 1 (Poolrooms?), the creature you spotted was a starfish, not a spider, hence, the mini sea stars you spot lying around and the warning on the note. In more recent versions, this creature is somewhat harder to avoid. Also, if you fail to swim through the exit tunnel, you will drown, so be quick.
Level 2 (The office), this level is impossible to die in from what I know and remains the same in this version and the most recent. It also makes for pretty cool screenshots. The drawing you find is of the Exits, hinting that you are to head toward that pit.
Level 3 (Dog?), the paper at the beginning shows you a drawing of a blank twisted face, with a crossed out eye and tucked ear, intended to indicate the "Dog" (creature that killed you) is blind. You can avoid him by crawling/crouching. He cannot catch you as long as you aren't moving, and you can safely crawl past him if you're careful.I believe it can hear you opening drawers, and can for a fact hear you open the gate, which he will follow through. You have to look for buttons in each of the rooms found, and will then be able to exit through the door where you entered.
I won't say anything about level 4-12, as I dont want to spoil it for anyone, but i highly recommend playing the game. It's possibly my favourite game on roblox and i am super stoked about the possibility of new levels. It's fun to play with friends as those random whistles (updated to sound more real btw) could either be your friends, OR... something far more sinister (basically creatures catfish you into thinking they're the friends you joined with).

(also you can move as long as you stay quiet for example if you sprint you will die if you walk past it your alright also try to whistle to bring it away from places you need to go to)

I believe the reason it is called no clipping is because when two objects in a game it is referred to as their meshes clipping against each other so if they had no clipping which is essentially just disabling mesh clipping the objects can pass through each other

Tips for future videos on the game and anyone who's never played it before but wants to
1. The monster in level 4 (or 3 the way the game counts levels is weird) cant hear you. So if its near you dont move
2. Anytime your camera glitches out like that means a monster is close
3. When your screen darkens while you run that means you've ran out of stamina
4. The game has checkpoints. So if you use up all your lives in level 4 and have to restart you're able to restart at level 4 (though none of your progress will be saved)
5. I *think* the random whistling takes you to your objective/helps you find the exit (not 100% sure this is true)
While reuploaded i notice they fixed the quality. Time to watch it in its full glory
Am I the only person who isn’t creeped out at all by the Backrooms except that industrial pipe line, it’s just something about the narrowness, darkness and endlessness of an industrial pipe line that could lead anywhere and to anything that gets to me.

The new level 12 in this game is more disturbing i played it alone for the first time i ever tried it and even now i get shivers down my spine remembering it. It felt like one of those weird dreams you get that you dont understand
It’s called no clipping because when you’re designing a game especially in Roblox when things collide with each other it’s called clip and when you select the box and turn it off it’s called no clip

No-clipping is a video game turn for when you do something to get you “out of bounds” of the game. You see things you’re not supposed to see, sections of the map you can’t access otherwise. The Backrooms, at least Level 0, took this into our reality. An example of this is how in Andy’s Apple Farm, you can walk through solid trees.
Just touching on the opening comments, you guys gave some real good insights and we love your work and willingness to speak out about things you think are bad or toxic. Matpat has done an amazing job establishing trust with his fanbase even if we sometimes give him a hard time
I could be alone in this, but I've always found ROBLOX horror games like this a whole level scarier than some actual horror games.

The very first use of the term "noclip" dates back to a video game known as "commander keen: secret of the oracle". Released in 1991, the game has its fair share of cheat codes, one of which being the key combination F10 + N, which brings up a pop-up saying "no clipping on". There may be an example or two of older instances of the word being used, but this is the most prominent one.

when they were talking about how everyone comes to a conversation from their own corner of the internet and that makes thoughtful conversations difficult it reminded me of the corner I'm on. The corner that doesn't see this hate, only hears about it from a handful of people such as matpat. I haven't tried to cultivate my experience at all really, just followed things I liked. I dunno, the only threat I've ever gotten was on a tumblr post where I asked for hate mail just to see what it was like. I'm not saying it doesn't exist, just that It's avoidable somehow.

When Mat first said "You Are Dead" after the monster got him, it reminded me of the game over song in Total Distortion (conveniently titled "You Are Dead" and sang partially in a monotone similar to the way he said it). I doubt it was intentional but it got a smile out of me.

You should play "The Mimic" on Roblox if you haven't already! Its also a really good horror game and it has a good amount of stuff to it. I've completed the game so far ( there coming out with more ) and it took me ages- I really recommend! It was super fun :)

Hey, Matpat! I know you just found this game and you may or may not continue it, but I also heavily recommend another Roblox game called Trespass! It is arguably the best roblox horror game and it has story along with tension and fear. I would totally recommend playing it for the channel!
I will also tell you that Apeirophobia has several more levels and you are not near done with the game yet. I would totally love to see your gameplay of both games in the future!
