I'm really excited about this show. Two asks for you all: 1) let me know what you think of the format. What could we do better different in future episodes? What did you like about it? What should we do more of, less of? 2) Suggestions for episodes. What should we listen to and talk about next?!?

I love the insights about how you listen to stuff as a musician. as an amateur sound engineer I also recognize I do not really listen to the lyrics unless I notice they are carefully crafted. I think it's good to keep focusing on quality music and not dive in too much mainstream. However, it could be good to do a few comparisons between really over the top pop productions and some more indie stuff. That also ties in with what you do with pomplamoose covers.
Maybe you can also focus a bit on the instrumentation, how things were picked!
I think the loose format is very good. Keep it moving, and don't fix the format too much!
As far as suggestions go: Orla Gartland is releasing a new album on the 20th of August, and dodie stuff is always so beautifully crafted. I would love to hear some deep-dives in to their music

@@noahleach7690 People who think like this are quite sad. I’ve seen so many reactions where ADULTS said the songs, especially ‘drivers license’ speaks about such a universal experience on heartbreak while being young that almost everyone young or old, whether you’re 15 or 100 can really feel and relate with. I’ve actually seen MOSTLY adults over 21 talk about how amazing, emotional and nostalgic her songs are. Almost everyone has or will go through a break up or heartbreak. Almost everyone has felt that emotion and she does such a good job at bringing that emotion through her music that even a 93 year old man can think back to when he was 19 and his gf left him. To say she just makes whiny break up songs only 13 year olds would get shows you’re most likely the 13 year old and/or you were already set on hating her music no matter what she produced.

  • @BarkatheMoon

This format is actually fantastic. Though I would actually rethink the name of the channel. There's this connotation with "React" as rather low-effort and surface-level and you're doing yourselves a disservice by lumping this channel in with that crowd. Even though a lot of this video is off the cuff, it isn't just reaction but expert analysis. I see the merit of latching onto the trend and playing the CZcams algorithm game, but I just think this content is worth it's own brand rather than naming it as a description of what it is. Already after one episode I place this in lines with Fantano and Polyphonic and think it deserves it's own identity.
Regardless of if you do anything with this or not, I'll keep watching. Great stuff!

The varied viewpoints with harmony, melody, lyrics, bass line/groove, and production are not too in depth that it feels laborious, but they're sufficiently thorough.
Your personal experiences add so much to this as well. The word nerd in me loves your lexicon.

Loved this, I think the format is really strong - the reactions are authentic, feels like everyone is giving an honest opinion without putting up a front or acting up for a video. It feels like great music people offering up their take, not great music people amping up their personalities for a reaction series - which is a nice relief on youtube generally.
Everyones contributions strike a nice balance between writing/theory/production/personal experience - the group doesn't lean into one and ignore the others and keeps a focus on what the song made them feel like/who its meant for etc - to be self aware enough to note when a song might not be your bag, but see who it might be aimed at/what it's trying to do - a nice focus on the why, not the just the how - which I really dig as a viewer and music person :)
Edit is really smooth - doesn't feel rushed or bloated - everyone takes the time to explain their reaction, but the cuts get rid of any fat and keep things moving - a good improvement over some other formats that go for like, a 90 minute unedited podcast. The whole thing flows well enough, I could easily watch 30-40 min ones - if you guys had enough to say/songs to check out etc
I think it was a smart move to play what your able to around copyright up front - then do discussion and jump around a bit. A lot of the time a chronological, stop/start type deal with lots of pausing feels too wooden, to me at least.
The cutaways to the relevant parts in each track when someone mentions it are great to follow along with, both for the reaction and also when someone mentions a part in a different song it reminded them of, or that came up in the convo. The small explainer sections are really good and elevate the quality - not too long to distract, but enough info to keep people who don't know as much about music, in the loop.
It's easy to get this format wrong, but it feels pretty excellent out of the gate! Would be nice to see a variety of genres, song pairs that try something where one hits the mark where the other doesn't quite? There's a ton you can do because the foundation is so strong - subbed and bell hit wherever it goes, love it!

I wasn't sure if I was going to love this new channel concept - but I actually really did! I like the little popouts you do to explain & demonstrate some of the technical terms you use.

I want to leave some positive feedback so you guys keep it up! What I really like about this is that it is highly produced and edited. (It's not like some long form rambling podcast. You've clearly spent some time editing down to the most interesting and salient points). This keeps it really accessible and watchable. Meanwhile you also do not shy away from using technical language. You're showing a little trust in your audience. And when you do break out and explain something you do it super clearly and concisely.
I have seen a lot of people try this kind of thing (looking at you song exploder) but you guys are the first ones that I feel have done it well. Bravo.

I think this is a better way for us non-musicians to learn about music than from such channels as 12-Tone and Todd in the Shadows. Great channels and totally worth the time investment, but this sounds like a layman's music educational channel.

This is music nerdom of the highest order and I’m HERE FOR IT. Reminds me of so many conversations I’ve had with my friends and it doesn’t come off as too elevated or contrived at all. Fan-fuckin’-tastic.
