Hey I’m Aussie🇦🇺🤬 kinda.
Actually Nicaraguans are not the only ones who don't pronounce their d's and s's, we (Chileans), Argentinians, and many other countries from the Caribbean omit those phonemes as well. People say my accent is one of the most incomprehensible just because we say either "weá", "weón", "culiáo", or "conchetumare" per three words, apart from some notable intonation and pronunciation differences.

I'm a Catholic Geograpeep, and I believe La Griteria is to celebrate the feast day of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary, not the Assumption. The celebration happens on December 7th, like an "Immaculate Conception Eve," similar to Christmas, before the global feast day on December 8th. The feast day of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary is August 15th.
Great show you guys. I enjoy watching your show every week. Keep up the good work!
I am from Nicaragua and what your saying is correct. We walk around the neighborhood house to house singing songs about La Virgen María and we get stuff in return like toys and fruits
@Lazy Greek Stereotype Most of Latin American countries have a mayoritary population of catholics. The thing is that in Nicaragua the culture and folklore is deeply rooted within their people.

You realize Nicaragua was the first proposed site for a canal...before Panama was chosen.
David Hewitt one of the reasons for its instability
Thank you
We have destroyed 20 million acres of tropical rain and mountain forests (and all the "biodiversity" that you are supposing to protect) in favor of a low producing-contaminating agriculture/cattle raising just in the last 60 years.
Yes, an interoceanic canal was the grand project of the Central American Federation since its formation. It would have set them ahead many decades, give them relevance in the world and economic boost. The republic would have lived if politicians hadn't destroyed their dreams.
OMG we loved our time in Nicaragua!!! You should go too. You'll be blown away!
The real name is "Nican Atl Nahuac", which means "Here Surrounded by Water" named by Nahuatl and last point of the Nahuas. The Nicaraos came from the Pipil tribe that came from the Nahuatl which are the Aztecs. Mayans came also, built settlements as well as the Chibchas, Caribs from the south and Colombia. The Mayans named an specific mount corridor "Amerrique" (land of the wind) with plenty of gold in it that caught Columbus and Vespucci's eye, later became a point of reference and Vespucci changed his name from Alberto to Amerigo to later rumors of gold in Europe that came from the Mount Amerrique on the Amerrisque corridor located in Nicaragua´s back bone to later the point of reference came know as America in French Ports at that time according to various authors.
Thats cool bro
So you are telling to me that we salvadorans are even realated with the nahualt roots?

Finally someone with the BASIC knowledge about the name of the country.... Here's my shortest possible version IT'S NÁHUATL... a prehispanic language spoken by tthe Mayans... This is no state secret and yet people still get it wrong!
The europeans discovered Nicaragua in 1520's and Columbus died in 1506 and Vespucci in 1512, how's that possible? Vespucci was named after his grandfather 'Amerigo' who died in 1468

Of course. Garifuna people exist all throughout "Central" America. Honduras, Belize, Costa Rica, Panama, etc. I'm sure even the black people in Mexico are loosely related to them. The spanish and Portuguese brought alotta those people from the same tribes and sprinkled them throughout the continent.

Nicaragua is awesome! They even have a land-locked lake with sharks. :)
Is not technically land locked since the San Juan river connects the Lake Nicaragua to the Atlantic ocean, that's how the sharks ended up in the lake making their way through the San Juan river to the lake and pirates used it as a entrance to raid cities like Granada in the past.
You forgot to mention the intervention of the US via the CONTRAS groups, I think it's an important topic and shouldn't be overseen.
Also did not mention that the International Court of Justice ruled in favor of Nicaragua in 1986, deciding that the US needed to pay reparation for the damages caused during that period. After US objections, UN Security Council and General Assembly sided again with Nicaragua, but US has still not paid up. For the full story, search "Nicaragua V United States"
The 1979 revolution was actually a coup d etat against a regime that was making the country rich. That overthrow of government was illegal and backed by large neighboring countries that hate the US. The junta of the 1980s was a criminal organization just like now Daniel Ortega has shown.
I always thought that the contras were Americans that disguised themselves with high tech masks as little Nicaraguans. They probably even learned the way Nicaraguans speak Spanish. I saw the movie Mission Impossible.

Classic dishes: Gallo Pinto
*Costa Rica watches closely and with anger*
Gallo pinto or gallopinto is a traditional dish of Nicaragua and Costa Rica, consisting of rice and beans as a base. Gallo pinto has a long history and is important to various Latin American cultures. The beans in gallo pinto are quickly cooked until the juice is almost consumed, then combined with readied rice, and other ingredients such as cooked bell peppers, chopped onions, and garlic.
Cuba has congri
@@youtubecommentreview4642 I agree. There is debate about which country coined that dish's name. There is no "Gallo" in Gallo pinto per se. So for a non-Costa Rican/ Nicaraguan person ordering something that may have chicken in its name, is grossly a misnomer. is like saying "French Fries" but you get deep fried Cucumber Slices German Style!
@@robzun8494 the beans and rice are the colour of a rooster that's why
