A big reason the tomb of Qin Shi Huang isn't opened is because doing so could damage the historical artifacts inside. The terracotta army was actually fully painted when they were first excavated, but after being exposed to the outside climate that detail was lost. Unlike Egypt, large parts of China have a humid climate that causes artifacts to rot and degrade. In the future technology might develop so that the tomb can be studied without damaging the contents, so it's best to wait right now. A lot of ancient sites like Stonehenge and the pyramids were damaged significantly by archaeologists that were a few centuries premature of being able to do a proper job.

The big question is: would opening the tomb and looking at what's inside actually have any significant impact on archaeology? I am by no means an expert in East Asian Studies but I assume that we have more than enough examples of 3rd century BC funerary architecture, burial objects etc.. I don't believe that this is the only ancient chinese mausoleum in existence. Yes, the cultural significance of this is huge, but that is just a reason not to open it. As you said, maybe in the future we might have more advanced tech to get a glimps of whats inside, but I don't think it is actually necessary.

The main reasons the tomb of the first emperor has been left alone is that they haven't yet figured out a way to open it without heavy damage to the tomb and also both according to historic records and tests done on the site there's heavy amounts of mercury in the tomb that can be a hazard if they open it.
These plus the booby traps are the explanations given everywhere, you're the first person I've heard that gives this "not opening out of respect" reason.

There is another place in Bhutan that is heavily restricted to enter.
It’s a mediation room of Zhabdrung Rinpoche at Punakha Dzong.
It has been the chamber where Zhabdrung Rinpoche went to during his later life to meditate in. No one is allowed to enter the chamber other than the Head of State and Religion (The King and Je Khenpo) and the monk who is supposed to bring the food for the Zhabdrung.
Most people who visit the Dzong have been allowed to front of the chamber’s entrance but no commoner has been ever allowed to visit the chamber since the presumed death of the Zhabdrung.

For those few brave/determined enough to try to take a sneak peek, they were allegedly met with warning shots. Now that it's completed, it's available to the public, on an extremely limited basis - a lottery opens up with a handful of slots, and only a few visiting days per year. Expensive, too.

The only people that are know to supposedly have access to using these tunnels are the Governor of the island and his family in case of any emergencies. For the tomb, I don't think we Chinese shouldn't open it even if there isn't any mercury and we found a way to protect all the stuffs inside.
Chinese, almost every man, still knows the characters and the writing and the traditions of Qing Shi Huang's time. It's a tomb and we respect our ancestors. Let them rest in peace.
Another fact - the reason we opened so many tombs is - we call it rescue excavation - because it's already opened by thefts and already exposed to the elements. We can't keep it that way. We have to move the artifacts to museum for better protection. But if we found a intact tomb, we leave it there.
Everyone knows messing up any ancestor tombs is a taboo in China.
