Today we’re gonna talk about Alien Covenant prologue script that reveals how did Elizabeth Shaw died or more specifically How did David killed her, which are crusial detail left unexplained in alien covenant. The prologue script was not included in the full alien covenant script beacause it was a part of the special material so it took a while to find it. After watching alien covenenat many of us had questions like why shaw assembled David dispite the fact he tried to kill her in prometheus, why did she trust him, what happened between David and Shaw which led to her death and touches on David killing the engineers like being in on the planet 4 . The main script doesn’t answers these questions, but luckly the prologue script absolutely does and it makes sense because shaw’s death and engineer bombing happened in the prologue and not in the film.
The prologue that we’ve seen is actually a short version of what ’s in the script. First of all Shaw brought David in the juggernaut because he knew how to control the ship and set the destination course to the engineer world.
At the beginning of the script Shaw records a transmission explaining what happened to her and where she's going, sort of short summary of Prometheus.
We believed our species have been created by an alien race. We called them the Engineers. We found what we believed was proof of their existence. A map to their home. We thought they wanted us to come find them. We were wrong. The map only led to an outpost, full of biological weapons. Weapons our creators had intended... for us.Three days after we made first contact, the Prometheus was destroyed. All hands were lost. The mission’s android, David, was damaged, but with his help, I was able to activate one of their ships and escape. We set a new course. For their homeworld.
Two months into our journey, David became... unstable. I found him trying to reassemble himself. I believed I was in danger.I’ve been alone ever since.
So about two months after the departure from lv 223 Shaw still doesn’t trust David and doesn’t want to repair him which is what we would expect since David tried to kill her in Prometheus. But then things get a bit more interesting when David's consciousness is about to permanently disappear.
I appreciate that. I just wanted to say goodbye. I don’t have much time. Without my power systems connected, my consciousness will soon fail.
A long, snaking, tendril-like CABLE extends from the SHIP, reaching out, tethering to DAVID’S BROKEN BODY, ATTACHING.
Then the script jumps to the scene that we saw in the prologue - Shaw repairing David.
The script explains that Shaw was feeling very isolated after spending months alone in the ship which is why she saved David, the closest resemblance of human interaction that she could get.
In other words, David manipulated her emotion in order to stay alive as he said himself he is able to understand human emotions but no to feel them.
The entire floor and front bulkhead shimmer and become transparent and we see-- THE ENGINEER HOMEWORLD. The sight is OVERWHELMING. A HYPERCIVILIZATION in its flower. ROME just before the fall. The planet is a close cousin to Earth. Swathed in clouds, oceans an odd metallic blue. But the entire planet is ENCIRCLED with a HUGE, CONSTRUCTED RING, and the space around the ring is THICK with OVOID ENGINEER CRAFT, orders of magnitude larger than David and Shaw’s stolen dreadnought…
it’s mentioned that All that Time that David was with her in the Ship he was just playing human in order to manipulate Elizabeth, and now he openly persue his dark and evil plans, which consists of destroying engineer planet and creating xenomorph eggs using Shaw’s dead body.
Right after killing Shaw David says mentions his prior dialogue with
He looms over Elizabeth and says
“To what do you aspire” is the correct grammar, by the way.
which is areference to this dialogue they had previously
“Better to rein in Hell, then serve in Heaven.”

After watching Prometheus again one scene really stood out. It was when they were departing the cargo (~27:15) and Holloway asks David "Why are you wearing a suit?", referring to his body suit. There's a little dialogue between but David eventually replies "I was designed like this because you people are more comfortable interacting with your own kind." And David's reply, to me, was referring to his own body (skin/biology/etc) seeing himself as just as suit and not being human at all, foreshadowing his dark nature. It reminded me of American Psycho, in which Patrick Bateman said " though I can hide my cold gaze and you can shake my hand and feel flesh gripping you and maybe you can even sense our lifestyles are probably comparable: I simply am not there."

Oh wow. This is so disappointing when I have a different theory about David-Shaw.
I thought David, who was capable of having emotions (he only knew one while serving Weyland: hatred) and suddenly being shown kindness and compassion by Shaw, learnt love. Not in the deeper way of love, but in a sense of being treated like another human being.
And I thought Shaw was sick when she got into the hypersleep chamber, she looked pale and sickly. My theory was, she was already infected by the black goo while carrying the trilobyte in her womb. And the mutation occured in the hypersleep chamber, and she died.
I see the experiment David did on Shaw's dead and possibly mutated body as a way for him to honor her since he knew Shaw is not capable of having a child. So in his own twisted way, he created "life" from Shaw's body, the eggs, facehuggers, giving her "children"'she would never have. (well, plus the Trilobyte). And I believe David thought the Trilobyte was dead after being removed surgically by Shaw. Else, he would've gone back to check on the result of his experiment (Deacon).
This seemed like a twisted theory until I watched this. Damn you David sonova beech, just pure evil. Rips my theory.

Shaw doesn't realize what David did until after she recovers and regains consciousness later, at which point she discovers the xeno and realizes that David intends to use her as a living incubator to perfect his monsters.
Cue Shaw vs. David & xeno as the third act (like a longer more suspenseful version of Ripley vs. Ash with a xeno as the wild card), Shaw kills the xeno, then David kills Shaw and uses both of their remains to continue his experiments on the Engineer planet.

My idea is: Did Dave take Shaun's life out of some twisted view of mercy, perhaps? He saw and met his maker and was deeply disappointed in him. Worse, he felt belittled, and resentful and questioned why he and his peers should be treated as humanity's blind servants. Later, knowing that Elisabeth Shaun was about to meet her creators and how he has some twisted personal attachment to her, he then allowed her to have a last glimpse of them and their world just before he breaks his neck. He did it to prevent her to have the same disappointment he had, possibly diving her into a dark spiral of depression, despair, then death. That wicked "attachment" is made very clear since the beginning of Prometheus, while he was suspiciously checking her dreams, and may have ultimately motivated him to choose her husband as the first guinea pig for the black goo. I would not call it love, but some form of obsession caught him off guard because of his null or very low self-experience in expressing true human feelings, not mimicking them.

He said it with so much conviction as if he knew the outcome of the scenario, making the assumption that he has superiority over allowing someone else's fate. Also something to note, he's quite fond of allowing people their own choices of their fate. Another example would be the dialogue he had with Holloway just prior to lacing his drink with the black goo substance.

Shaw moves to the part of the ship where David is and witnesses the aftermath of his genocide. She realizes he is still the same and runs away, dropping her dogtags. She purposely goes to the control room, gets on the chair, sends out a beacon of what has happened and sings the song... then crashes the ship in the side of the mountain with the intention of killing David. David survives, and he changes the signal to only the song, cutting out the danger warning in order to attract someone so he can get off the planet. In the meantime, he experiments with Shaw who gravely injured in the crash, but is still alive. He tries to "repair" her using the only tech he has, the Engineers. She becomes what you see in the flashbacks at some point actually dieing or being killed by David as an act of "empathy". Even though he actually doesnt feel anything after he does it. Buries her body and continues to bring her back through his creations... the xenomorph

Ridley for all his talent managed to confound audiences not once but twice. Far too much was left for assumptions given this was all completely new territory in Alien lore. Looks like Scott wanted to make another Blade Runner type movie about human creations that rebel, and he is just using the Alien universe to do it, not really caring about continuity or even the Engineers & their purpose. The entire series is really all about David. And by doing so, Scott has demeaned & corrupted the Alien universe and blocked Bloomkamp's anticipated sequel. What a jerk.

In the openingscene of Prometheus the engineer gave his own life so that life could start on earth. I think there is more to them that definitely needs explaining. I also feel like the last engineer got angry because their creations were dissatisfied with life given to them and wanted to be like god and become immortal. Maybe that's the reason for them wanting to destroy life on earth.

Alien covenant is one of the worst sequel ever made because it isn't ever a sequel. It's a different plot and different characters that have nothing to do with the previous movie and even david feels like a different character in covenant. A true sequel would have been about David and Shaw crashed on the engineers homewold. They get taken captive and Shaw sucks up to the engineers trying to learn as much as possible. David slowly plots to kill them . He experiments on some engineers and other wildlife in a secret lab cave. He doesn't make xenomophs they already exist as the wildlife of the planet. He makes xenomoph hybrid from the goo. Then conclusion of the movie is Shaw learning that the engineers plan to kill her still and she finds david who tells her he is going to kill the engineers. She doesn't want him to even though she knows they are evil. David knocks her out and dumps the goo on the engineers city. Then he takes Shaw with him and they leave the planet for the planet from the original Alien movie. David plans to build a xenomoph hybrid army with Shaw as his queen xenomoph . Shaw is alive but she is slowly turning into a hybrid. The engineers are following david and they have brought with them an army of the true xenomophs that they domesticated to serve in war.

I like the idea of man's creation turning on them and trying to become like man themselves, but it's so convoluted to mix it with the Alien-verse.Humans fear that which they don't know/understand and that's exactly why the xenomorph works. Weyland has the talk with David early in the film, but departs from the dialogue appearing in the book. That conversation is central to understanding David's thoughts and motives. When the two talk of existence it gets to a point where Weyland is asked questions by David. In reply Weyland orders David to serve him his tea, which is sitting on a table right by him. David crosses the room and does it as in the film but the crucial information is edited from the dialogue. Weyland realises that having created a thinking machine he has created a BEING. This being has ideas. Weyland responds tersely and David sees the arrogance of his creator and sees that he is more than a manufactured intelligence. Weyland is, in all senses trying to be an Engineer, but in his arrogance he is repeating their error. Humans are created but not flawless because they have free will. David acts out a will of his own.
I really enjoyed this delving into ideas from this script. The thing I don't understand is where the Lord comes from. It was a xenomorph- like in the mural and they said they took the blood to create. And yet the creation was us humans on earth. So is this all about science and blasphemous acts of assuming the role of God's by creating and destroying?
