I've NEVER seen a 1911 taken down or put together that way. First thing you do is remove barrel bushing then break down slide and easily remove spring and barrel. When re installing you install barrel and spring then install the slide , install the pi through the barrel link and LAST install the bushing. That's how to break down a 1911.

That poor Gun, stuck with this guy owning it! The bushing wrench on the tight fit barrel! Push it through to where it isn’t beveled and it will come off easier. But damn it was like nails on a chalkboard watching you with the spring at the end, but yelled when you hit the slide stop!

A lot of folks giving this guy flack about how he removed the recoil spring but I just bought the Springfield 1911 10MM long slide and he did it exactly as shown in the manual. It is in fact different even in the manual than the other versions of this pistol The end recoil spring catch is not the same on this. The only thing in this video I found he could have made easier for himself is the replacement of the last catch to finish the job. First, lock the slide (and flip safety on), place the pin in most of way. With it locked on safe, that tiny springloaded catch allows it over the hump. Then slide rack forward to line up to that tiny notch and press rest of way.

FYI: You need to tweak the barrel bushing a tiny bit. The recoil spring plug didn't reset properly under the bushing. This can potentially shear the bushing if the recoil spring's coils fully compress before the slide has stopped its rearward movement. (It isn't healthy for the spring or the spring plug either.) That extra tenth of an inch can make a difference.

  • @Big-hg5zf
    @Big-hg5zf Před 5 lety +10

OMG! On a properly fit, tight barrel bushing, NEVER set the barrel in to full lockup at the rear and THEN use a bushing wrench to turn the bushing on the END of the barrel! It can gall the interface between barrel and bushing and lead to a loose barrel-to-bushing fit. You'll notice the muzzle end of the barrel has a raised section right before the muzzle. It's done that way to have a tight bushing to barrel lockup. Instead, put the barrel in part way (leaving and inch or more out the end of the slide) and then place the bushing over the barrel an into the slide (you'll notice there is plenty of room between the barrel and bushing at that point). You can then use a busing wrench to turn the bushing to the proper location.

I am with you on this. I have the RO Elite Operator, 5" barrel. I shoot the cheaper stuff, namely Sellier and Bellot because they are the cheapest and they are FMJ. Out of the box, I had a number of situations where the bullet got lodged into the chamber, with the angle too great for the slide to overcome. I had perhaps 20 problems out of 200 rounds. Springfield suggested trying another ammo, so I went with Magtech, also cheap and also FMJ.
The Magtech was even worse than the Sellier and Bellott. This time I had at least 20 issues out of 100 rounds. The bullets lodged into the chamber during cycling and sometimes during racking.
After the Magtech fiasco, Springfield emailed me a FedEx label. I printed it and attached it to a FedEx box. I am set to get the gun in 2 days, so the total turnaround time will have been 14 days. I am relying on Springfield's legendary customer service to come through. If you are interested, I can post an update after I shoot the pistol.

@@waynesouthwick I got the gun back and they said that the feed ramp was recut and polished. Also, the extractor was tuned. The feed ramp now has a mirror finish, and they throated the top of said feed ramp a little.
Last week, I fired the remaining 100 Magtech rounds and there were a few that lodged as before, but this time I could tug back the slide a little and the bullet would go into the chamber (an improvement). Even this behavior seemed to disappear after about 50 rounds, and the last 50 ran with no issues.
The next day, I fired 50 rounds of Sellier and Bellot 180 gr JHP, and there were no issues. I did not clean the gun before this use.
Just the other day I cleaned the gun and then shot 100 rounds of Sellier and Bellot 180 gr FMJ and there was exactly one failure to feed near the end of the 100. This one was a weird failure because I was able to push the slide forward into battery, easily with my thumb. I can't understand why the spring itself wouldn't have overcome the light force needed to battery. The only way to not blame the pistol is to suggest I did a limp wrist, and that's possible because sometimes I let my hands simply ride the recoil. Realistically though, the gun needs to break in because when I rack the slide I can feel a sticking point right after the slide falling downward (when pulling the slide backwards). I've seen videos where the slide action was "like glass" and mine certainly is not like glass.
I shoot at least 100 rounds every week, so let's give this a few hundred more and I'll report back if you'd like.

Lot of recoil (you should expect that from a relatively light gun shooting a round that can put down a bear) but the recoil wasn't too much to handle after a few shots to get a feel for it. I also own their Saint Edge rifle and have not had a problem with it.
as far as your comments about the controversy If you own a Ruger you are a hypocrite (web.archive.org/web/20030217213425/communities.prodigy.net/sportsrec/gz-papabill.html) . If you own a Smith and Wesson you are a hypocrite (www.actionamerica.org/guns/swbetray.html). Daniel Defense is the same (www.thetruthaboutguns.com/2018/03/robert-farago/daniel-defense-fix-nics/) savage arms owners (thehill.com/blogs/blog-briefing-room/news/385698-vista-outdoors-to-stop-manufacturing-guns) how about H&K (www.captainsjournal.com/2012/09/10/anti-gun-ignorance-from-recoil-and-hk/) I remember Remington got into hot water long ago over something as well similar to Springfield but I cant find an article for proof online. About the only companies I haven't heard something anti 2A come out for is Glock, FN and SIG.

They have publicly apologized. And they made it a point to let everyone know that they didn’t make the decision to make them donations. They have a few people that deal with that kind of thing. And those people were acting on their own, without the top people’s knowledge about the specific groups them donations went to. They also assured us actions like this would never happen again. And I’m sure somewhere down the line, people were fired and possibly even sued for this. Like you when this first came into public knowledge, I was pissed because I personally love SA, and felt like they stuck a big ass knife right in our backs. But in the end when everything was explained I did feel a little bit better knowing they aren’t traitors, and them themselves ere ignorant of them donations to them groups to begin with. That being said I gave them a 2nd chance. And as long as what they said and publicly proved is true, they deserve a 2nd chance.

No Breaks! They will betray us citizens again, at first chance to jump through hoops for whatever legislative reasons.
All of our firearm manufactures are under fire all across the land, even though there money built this great Country, and all of these Millenials just dont understand that our guns are there i phones, Galaxy's, and what the hell ever else there is!
The Firearms manufacturing community was the very first Silicon Valley!!!
      Dont Forget That!

Why not brag about your purchases from Dick's Sporting Goods next, and maybe sign up for Everytown while you're at it.
Never trust Springfield, they'll turn on the gun community at the next opportunity.

By the same logic you clearly don't buy Ruger firearms and call them evil as well, right?

Springfield actually publicly apologized to all of their customers/fans. Yeah, what they did was shit. But along with a public apology they assured us these kinds of actions would never happen again. And I’m sure somewhere down h line a few people were fired and possibly sued.
