Gun Review: Springfield TRP vs Remington R1 10mm Hunting Pistols

  • What do you get when you have a pair of new 10mm longslide 1911-style pistols? A head-to-head, that’s what. There are far too many similarities in style, audience, features, and price not to consider the 6” Remington R1911 and Springfield TRP Operator arch enemies, not only in the tactical market, but the hunting pistol field as well. Which one do you choose when you walk into that gun shop with a pocket full of cash?

I really enjoyed this straight forward vs video. More often than not people want to spend more time trying to show off or be funny than actually picking a gun. Your shooting was short and to the point while showing accuracy and nice as well. You didn’t shoot off 50 rounds in video to tell us you have shot 500 with no issues, I appreciate that. Thumbs up.

I have a Remington 1911 r1 in 45 never had but one failure and it was a stove pipe. I have really enjoyed my Remington 1911 45, I would love to try the 10 mm. I would also like to try the Springfield.

Some guns don't like some ammo. Plus shoot full power 10mm ammo like Underwood, Buffalo Bore, or Double Tap and neither including the Remington will have no issue. If you want to shoot watered down 10mm ammo than shoot a 40.

Simple fix on the Remington. A Dremel and some polishing compound on the feed ramp should help out a lot. Get the mirror shine going. A high end magazine helps also. Typically running hollow points on a new pistol are the biggest culprits.

Look at 2:21 at how off the slide is on the rails of that Remington. The left side looks really wonky in comparison to the right. You see it multiple times throughout the video too. Unfortunately their QC leaves something to be desired.

I have two Springfield's and when I saw one guy do a demo of the Springfield in 10mm the handle came off of it and for that price I would take the Remington although the Springfield shot better , many reviews that I have seen have said that the Remington 10mm is fine after about 50 rounds have gone through it , both Companies would have a Winner if these problems were not there . The Remington has a Match Grade Barrel , that was left out .

It could be several reasons: dirty gun, some guns simply don’t shoot some ammunition well and are choosy of what they like. And of course, sometimes the gun itself just isn’t built to quality standards. Sometimes, some ammunition may be underpowered and not operate well in certain guns.

At one point in time I had 12 1911's of various brands both 10 and 45, right now im down to 3. Two TRP Operators, one in 6 inch 10mm and a 5 inch 45. Then there is the Kimber stainless gold match which I don't shoot because its more of a "jazzed up" and accessorized, its beautiful and just for show at this point. But im going to get another TRP Operator 10mm in 5 inch, that bull barrel makes a huge difference, those springfields are just awesome. That being said I have a Sig p220 legion SAO I cant wait to sell, what a let down, I should of just bought the springfield with that money. I know the 220 is not exactly a 1911 but the concept is close.
