Okay, I don't know if anyone else noticed this besides me but this short plays off the old adage "Ask not for whom the bell tolls, it tolls for thee." The ending all but confirmed this to me when you can clearly see the woman have a reaction to hearing the bells. The reaction on her face shows that yes, she hears the bells but yet doesn't openly acknowledge them (e.i. asking aloud if you hear the bells). And did anyone else notice that once the boy openly acknowledged the bells the tolls got louder much faster? The tolls slowly get louder once the bells start but I noticed that once they were openly acknowledged the tolls got louder much faster, as if marking that person as the next victim. So just remember people, if you suddenly start hearing church bells don't say anything. No one wants to listen to their funeral bells.
The fuck does a piano playing mean? No one on my street owns one and I hear it every day and i can't tell where it's coming from.

So Katelyn seems to be a common thread amongst all these deaths by the monster, and also happens to bear a pretty striking resemblance to it as well. That, and her reaction is a little odd when her son(?) asks if she can hear the bells. She even seems to hear them too. Is it possible that she either is the monster or knows of its existence?
I think she knows of its existence. If you listen once the bells are openly acknowledge they get louder a lot quicker, sort of marking the person who mentioned them as the next victim. She obviously hears the bells but doesn’t wanna say anything or else she will die next.

What I love about this short is the ambiguity: We don't know how Jim's father's brother died, who this creature is, and why it kills. All we know is that it has an interesting in torrmenting with sound, especially with the sound of bells.
I love how someone with enough creativity can pull off a good horror short without a huge budget

Okay, so since I didnt really see any comments trying to explain the story, I guess ill just give my 2 cents after listening to the dialouge multiple times. I think this is some kind of generational monster who only attacks 1 unlucky male per generation, this is why the sibling's (caitlyn and jim's) dad did not die but instead, their recently discovered uncle did. (Either that OR the monster attacks all males in the family; given that Jim's dialouge to Caitlyn was that "He WAS dad's only brother" which could possibly hint that their father had died prior and that they only found out about their father's brother now because the brother was trying to run away from the monster.) Nevertheless, the monster caught up to Jim and Caitlyn's father's generation and once finishing the job, move onto their generation. And after finishing Jim, moved onto the next generation. Caitlyn's son, Alvin.
I'd like to think this monster is the stereotypical "avenging demon" that their male ancestors mistreated when it was still alive and an actual human being.
@@tokumahyata616 honestly, that's the only thing I couldnt fit into my little theory. And that IS totally strange that she just stops for a moment despite 'not hearing the bells'. But, I find no reason to believe any caring mother (especially one that JUST comforted her son in the scene prior) would ever blatantly lie to her son to save herself. (Idk if she knows or not but I find that v strange if she did and it wouldnt make sense). Also if she knew about the demon or whatever it is, I find it also odd that she would willingly have a family ("knowing that the demon would target her and her family") without having her son know not to acknowledge the bells either, you know? Its quite strange and I wish I could find the directors take or commentary

Personally, I wouldn't think she is because Caitlyn was talking/calling him repeatedly while all the scary stuff started happening (but then again, that could just be the "movie/supernatural logic" trying to throw off viewers like me). A nice, highly unsettling horror short. :) :)
Besides loving the idea of a ghost/demon that forces deafness on its victims, the use of sound and ambience in this short was really effective - I almost jumped because of the sound at 2:23. :) The slow reveal that the blood spattered on the floor were footprints created a nice, slow, creeping dread for me. I also loved the ending scene, and the dark twist. :) I found that monster pretty terrifying, and I love how you went to the effort of having that outside-the-house shot and the protagonist's scream instead of cutting when the monster lunged. :)
I do have some constructive criticism pointers - I could clearly see at 3:01 the room's contents and lack of a figure before the lights went on, so the Cat Scare there wasn't really effective; and I had to rewatch and pause the shot with the bloody thing under the cloth to confirm that it really was what I thought it was.

Real story:
It was in the morning. My parents were already at work and I was alone at home. I'm not a very religious person and don't believe in the paranormal THAT much, but that morning in particular... boy, did it change my mind about the paranormal as a whole! I woke up with this huge headache while hearing some male priests chanting some Church songs in what I believed to be Greek or Latin (it sounded like those Byzantine Orthodox chants), and I didn't know where it came from. It was loud as well! I looked for my phone - nothing. I got up and moved around the house to see if the sound came from the TV or stuff from the other rooms - again, nothing! Then swiftly, without any hesitation I went to open the window of the room I've slept in that day, but the sound didn't get any louder nor softer... It was all in my head! The chant was being played in my head all along and I was desperate to make it stop but I couldn't - that until I've closed my eyes, squeezing them, and after an even stronger headache. It all stopped then. I was scared shitless!! I talk to my parents about it to this day 😅 It was super weird!
This film is incredible. Amazing ending. It got me thinking though. She seems to be aware that if you acknowlwge the bells you're inviting the creature in. And its kinda sad that she can't warn anyone becuaue it leaves her vulnerable, but also like r.i.p to her son.

Loved it! One thing that really creeped me out is when she asks why they needed a closed-casket funeral - it reminded me of the famous story "The Monkey's Paw" when the parents wish for their son back after a terrible industrial accident. Eek!

Nice touches, but there is one thing that most horror shorts do, and this one is guilty of as well. The guy is alone, sees something out of the corner of his eye, sees bloody footprints, and loses his hearing but just slowly walks towards whatever he thinks is ahead. People don't do that. They grab weapons, they run away, they open the door and dash down the street...only in horror movies do people walk slowly towards their doom. It gets annoying because we know that's not how it works.
adamantsun I know. I always think that too, but the other day I was home alone and heard a strange noise at the other end of the house. I slowly walked towards it , and then, I actually said “Hello?” I thought oh shit, I am that person.
Once I was home alone at evening (but was winter so it was already dark), in the complete silence a strange vibrating sound start coming from the bathroom right at the end of the corridor (and my room was at the other end, cliché), I got there slowly turning on lights, only to find my electric thootbrush turned on by itself... The button was pretty sturdy to press, to this day I still can't figure out how could it start by itself remaining perfectly standing on the sink shelf!

Really excellent! I love me a good horror set in a warmly lit, cozy space. I don't see anyone talking about what was in the cloth, though. Was that placenta? Ectoplasm? What!? It got me thinking this entity might be some kind of scorned lover, a mistress abandoned with child who died during labor or something... No clue, though. Love it all the same!

I see this as a VERY blatant metaphor for mental illness of some kind--schizophrenia, perhaps but not entirely certain.
The "woman eating him" was actually him committing suicide because he couldn't stand the pressure. The young man also began to suffer stress-related symptoms at the end because of his transition to a new school and started hearing "the bells".

First of: Great Film. Secondly: I can't say this enought, please stop showing the Monster/Creature whatever in the Thumbnail!!! It really takes away lots of tension. The greatest fear comes from the unkown but when you know from the beginning whats awaiting you then its not even half frightening as it could be.

A family curse..looks like all the men in that family hear it.. The uncle.. With the closed casket.. The brother now the kid... It would have been cool to see an ancient relative getting cursed by ringing bells in a satanic church or something. But I wish they didn't show the face before you even see the video. Just watched the exorcist, supposedly the scariest thing in the world, and almost fell asleep- not scary at all. Looked up on some short horror films, and this scared the shit out of me.
@ I find that Hammer Films produced episodes far more terrifying that the Exorcist. I saw it as a child when it came out, and it honestly did not scare me. But 'un-scary' films like cruel B-movies of the same era had me sleeping in my parents' room. Some people honestly do not find the Exorcist frightening, no matter the excuses about its era and being a pioneering film.
That's because the exorcist is not only scary but a good movie. Short films don't really have to build story but can focus only on building tension and quick scares but is this really gonna get under your skin? Obviously this short was very well done but it can't be compared to a film like the exorcist that not only delivers on scares but also gives you an emotional reason for those scares to stick with you. But sure, if you're looking for a quick scare, look up some short films on CZcams with a formula of someone alone in a house where all the sound gets quiet until there's a loud noise and it cuts to some good but not believeable practical effects. It startles you but are you really gonna be staying awake at night, dreading the lady with an ineffective mouth who makes the camera zoom in on her neck?
Perhaps knowing that the exorcist was based on a true story (switch Linda Blair for a male child) may cause it to be a bit scarier...it scared the s***outta me... plenty of 80s horror scared me as well and some made me laugh ... the first Nightmare on Elm St. had me wanting to take up coffee drinking at age 8!! 🇨🇦

Theory: it’s a family curse that only hits males (can’t say man cuz it was happening to the little boy to) . Probably because that female monster was a normal woman and had a miscarriage and blamed the men of the family.

Hmm might be a good theory. I just know that in the christian and also the northern religions bell ringing means that the gates to heaven, valhalla or whatever opens to let the souls come in.. but the creepy woman doesn't suit into my theory.. gates of hell maybe?
I don't know, but it wouldn't make a lot of sense for most ideas, the family curse idea usually follows that it tries keeping curse forever so usually would activate when they had a new heir to the curse (having a kid etc) so maybe the grandpa woke up a monster that was going to just wipe out everyone males or whatever consecutively. You'd just have to assume it started just recently if it went for 3 of them in a matter of days.

I figured after a certain point it wasnt really her repeating herself but the call looping. I can't remember entirely but she was really heavy on that repetition, unnaturally so. So either it was poor acting or scripting or something was looping the call.
