I've just followed this to wire in my tomtom to my (new to me) 2021 SAS. THANK YOU. I couldn't have done it without this video. No bolts left over either, which is my usual form..... 😂😂

Thanks for a superb step by step guide Ricardo! Just used this to hard wire my new Zumo XT2 to the ACC2 connectors. Managed to do this without removing the crash bars too. Just enough wiggle room to get the larger panel off and on. Cheers - John

Your video sped up my work considerably. Thanks a lot ! I just wired Radar Screamer to front ACC2 (I always run RS with V1 detector on all my bikes). BTW, I love manufacturers who pre-install these access points. BMW does it well, Aprilia may throw one in there. The only bike that I had so far and had none of it was Panigale V4. I solved that one with a relay to a switch circuit, but it takes much longer.. For nav I am going to install another mount for my TrailTech and wire probably to rear ACC2. I like it a lot for off-roading on a single track on my EXCF500, but I can find use for it on SAS too.

Great video. Helped me a ton. The ACC2 can also be found under the seat. Two things: - I got a tip to connect a wire to the ACC2 connector and lengthen it back to the seat and connect the GPS power there so that it’s easier to disconnect when selling the bike by just hiding the power cable under the tank cover. And the other quite important thing I found by accident. You can also find the ACC2 under the seat, furthest back on the left side. This I found after I was done with the full process as described in this video 🙃

Hi Ric, thanks for this how to video. I just followed it to install my Garmin. Also used your other video to install the Touratech mount and locking Dock. I also had to remove the right hand engine bars to get the lower fairing off. So many panels and screws! Why a simple access panel couldn't have been designed in is beyond me. BTW I also followed your your engine bar install video a while back so thanks very much. As a foot note to your Christmas video I also took your advice to get checked out yesterday and all is well. Love the channel so keep doing your thing as long as you're having fun. All the very best. John

All easy though. You will do it with your eyes closed after a couple of times. But seems a lot initially. And nice one on getting checked out 🙏. Thank you. This was very helpful. Putting it back together was much easier than i expected. Great fit from KTM. I used two "zip tie sticky pads " ( don´t know the right term ) inside the arm for the screen. In that way the cable is completely hidden and you don´t need the zip ties around the arm. Hello Ricardo at last got my 1290 s and all the bits for Garmin. Just a question. The Touratech mount and the Garmin fixing bracket are just grey steel. Would it look better if I sprayed them Matt black before installing? Obviously just your opinion.
@stephenalbert856 hello mate. Yes they are just steel. I never bothered to paint mine. Pure personal taste. If you do I’d prefer powder coating rather than a rattle can. 👍. No harm if you do. Others have done it too 😁
Blimey! I’m glad I opted to just run a feed from the rear ACC 2 for my sat nav. I just ran the wire under the tank clipped on cover. Besides I suspect the dealer will need the front ACC outputs for the auxiliary lights if they ever arrive!
Hiya Bruce ! Yes the alternative option is the rear ACC2. I think if I were to position my SATNAV on the handlebars that would be easier as its on the correct side of the handlebars. I am not sure where you position your SATNAV? When mounted high on the front of the screen then cleanest finish with no visible cables seen the front ACC2 is the cleanest way. Literally zero visible wires. The bike looks as though the SATNAV is built in 👍. If you were to run from other end (rear) of the bike you still need to remove all the fairing to hide the wiring to run up to the high level SATNAV mount at the front. Hence using front ACC2 There is also ACC1 still free at the front in the worst case of ACC2 being required for anything else later on I guess. 👍 It was not a hard job though. Just a few panels and screws and half hour 💪 😂

Hi Stuart.. FYI forgot to add there are ACC1 and ACC1 in the rear under the passenger seat. Easier to use if you bar mount the SATNAV and dont need to cross the void to the front screen. Otherwised if the front screen is where you mount (if you get the bike) the tidy way is use the ACC1 and ACC2 as shown in the vid! Cheers Ric
I spotted two sets of acc connectors under the rear seat; one of which is acc2 witched and much easier to get to than front Acc2. Connected my Zumo to the rear acc2 connector under rear seat and all works. Hope this helps those a bit wary of taking their KTM to bits ;-)
Hello Frank. Yes mate agreed another option. And some have already used that. It’s not really a big deal getting the panel off and getting to the front ACC. Yeah probably daunting at first but once you done it once you realise it’s easy. And a lot tidier that running a meter or so of wiring from the rear around the side and up the front of the bike when there are a connector right there. No rules how to do it as long as you got it done 👍💪 Cheers for the reminder though regarding this additional connection 🙏

As you have already seen I don't mind stripping stuff down off a brand new machine and seeing how they are assembled. I like to learn myself a new machine (before I "have to" learn.. if you know what I mean haha). I have done it on all of my past bikes over the years. I am currently working on stuff not based in the workshop as usual and trying to get out and on the bike for a change. Let see lol. Good luck with the purchase and hope you go through with it. I am not sure of your style or bike or riding background. But I am a "slowly ageing" ex 1000cc Race bike rider and enjoy all the thrills that come with those bikes. Its great to finally have a perfect bike (For me anyway) that I am not crippled after a long ride like a race bike but still gives the "buzz". I hope the long term it is reliable. :) Thanks Ric!

@@Guillebricks hey there again! Ah I see I’ve used a cross runner before and very reliable bikes and nice to ride . No effort. If your switching to a 1290 man your in for a surprise 💪 !! Also from what I have seen thee are so simple and quick to maintain. Panels off in no time if you need to. Air filters and oil changes a breeze! KTM did a fantastic job on it! Although I am guessing their service fees won’t be any less even though it takes less time to get to the stuff 🤔 we shall see! I still need my service stamps for warranty so will soon find out haha! But definitely don’t be put off messing with your bike. I won’t be waiting every 10km for my service even though that’s the requirement. I’ll be doing an interim service myself. But yeah keep at it and before you know it you’ll be flying through your own maintenance in no time. I now only have this one bike so any work I have to complete in one go and no mistakes 🤣 Cheers for coming back! Ric Ps I love Seville been loads of times with my wife. Hi Ric, have followed your channel and used several videos to add some neat accessories to my new 2023 SAS. I've added the Touratech mount, hardwired an XT2, installed the bash plate all following your excellent videos, thanks! About to install the auxiliary lights so have watched that video a couple of times. I have two questions - 1. do you have to take the tank off? Mine is empty :) but wondered if you could empty it, if needed, through the petcocks? 2. how do you find the vibration? It's the one disappointing factor so far! I have a 2021 SuperDuke R too and that is smooth as silk. Anyways, keep up the great work! D
Hello David and thank you for the comment! Its nice to hear you found some of my clips useful cheers. Take your time on the Aux light one. that is easily the longest job I did on the 1290 and one I ended up paying to be done instead for my SAR (haha I could not be arsed to do that again). But no you do not actually need to remove the tank. I have seen our KTM techs at work and the take all the panels off (still cant avoid that). But instead of removing the tank they managed to feed the wires through from one side to the other by wiggling the tank about making gaps without physically taking it off the bike. HOwever if you do decided to remove it then you could drain the fuel from the petcocks if you wanted although I would not. I am not sure if you would run the risk of getting some airlocks in the system after (I am not a tech so may be talking rubbish. However my rule of thumb is that if you dont need to do something then dont...) As for vibration I never had an issue or I am just tolerant lol... So far so good and even my new SAR rides like my SAS. Same feel. Hope that helps! Thanks Ric

Thanks for the instructions. But for who’s doing this: I just led the wires to the acc2 at the back of the bike. Under the seat, there is a secondary set acc1 and acc2. Only needed to take off the usb box, the middle tank cover and the seat. And loosen up the right large cover. Garmin Zumo wire is just long enough to reach to the back. Saves some screws to be handled.
Hiya Alex yes I have mentioned the rear connectors in a vid somewhere. You can do it your way of course. However the forward connectors are for front of bike connections and keeps it’s a little cleaner also allowing the rear to be used as and when they might be required. I personally didn’t want to trail wires from the rear all the way to the front but each to their own. It’s just a few minutes more effort after all. 👍 Cheers for sharing though 🙏👍
@@RicardoYeep ah, missed the vid about that. And seeing this vid I was in the impression that it would take me lots of (more) time to remove the other parts. But you’re right, I now misused the connector for fe a heated seat I guess. I already was happy that I solved my first wiring ‘project’ 😅.

Wow, that was a painful amount of panels just to get access to the ACC2 - I've done this before on the Superduke GT - and it's literally 3 bolts to remove the dash and then connected via spades. Seems really odd that they couldn't put the ACCs in roughly the same spot on this bike, and when they did find a spot, to have it so awkward to get to. Nice work Ric, I always worry I'll scratch something badly while removing plastics :-)

Thank you very much for such a detailed video. I agree that it is much cleaner and tidier to connect to the ACC2 at the front of the bike rather than back. I have one question though... In some other youtube videos, I have seen people removing the TFT display, then the 2 top screws of the headlight to reach to the cables behind the headlight. The cables that you have reached seems to be in a different location. Did KTM change where they store these cables in newer models, or are there available cables behind the headlight as well? If so, wouldn't you think it would be easier, and also "cleaner" to feed the available cable through the hole for the TFT cable and use it for the GPS?

I have owned every top model TomTom previously incuding the current comparative model Rider 550. I will also do an owners real life review (First 1000 miles) on the 1290SAS shortly too given I am now on 1300!!. I mentioned in my other clip at the end (I think it was the Quick Wash clip) Mine has high speed wobble.. I am currently diagnosing what is causing this. Hi Ricardo, i did fix mine from the connection on the back of the bike, under the pillion seat. Was a little fiddel to get the wire from the tank to the cocpit but suc6. The cable comes out direct under the tft sreen. So by moving the windscreen up and dwn the cable from the gps is going fine in the hole under the tft screen. Love your video, greetings from Belgium.

Yeah the rear is always an option but like you say running it from the back to the front also comes with its own inconveniences. As long as still works then that's good! Hey Tony thanks for getting in touch and enjoying the clip. You most definitely can run the SATNAV from the usb as it supplies 2.1 Amps. And also it’s switch Live so only powers with the bike on. However i thought about this too but your still going to be left with trying to neatly run the wires from the front of the wind screen to the usb wiring (assuming you don't want it on your bars). I am a bit OCD and has to be clean. The easiest was was to correctly use the accessory wires behind the panel as shown in the clip. There is no right or wrong way. Bearing in mind if you don’t want to hard wire to the bike you also have the 12v cigarette port under the dash as well as the usb in the storage. Either will suffice for a power supply. However the video I think I found was the cleanest way to achieve a very clinical finish 👍 Cheers Ric
Hi Ric, follow-up question. Ordered the KTM official mount and wired in my garmin 396 lmt-s. There is a fair bit of vibration with the mount when the bike is running, are you seeing something similar with your sat-nav? Previously I used metal mounts off the handlebar clamp with no vibration, wondering if I should move back to this.
Hi there... Unfortunately yes there is mild to moderate vibration. (its not the best location with the attachment points to be fair. Rather a lot of plastic) As that screen mount itself as a structure is pretty flimsy in my opinion.. As you say the Handlebar clamp will be hard to improve upon. I can live with the mild to moderate vibration. Its not that bad I find. But agree if it bugs you then for sure use the handlebars. I just like the screen mount for convenience and of course aesthetics in my opinion.

Hey Ric, just preparing myself for this very same operation. At the same time I will install KTM heated grips. The online instructions say to remove the tank to install grip wiring, but your video showed what I believe is the connector I need to access sitting just underneath the right side snorkel. If that is the connector, I will not have to remove the tank for access or to route the grip wires. Does that sound right to you and also, how are you accessing the instructions for these various operations, please? When I try to use KTM/manuals for info, more often than not I get the 404 message. Hi Peter. Good luck on the task. Apologies for the delayed reply as I have been away this weekend on a Rally event. As for the KTM instructions and fitting guide. I have never found one single accessible install guide so far. For every Power Part I have received the paperwork tells you to go to a link online to download the fitting guide. Absolute garbage unless they are yet to sort this out. VERY VERY frustrating considering how much you are charged for these parts. Anyway to answer your question. I have a workshop manual and I also have a friends in the "trade". And I also get on well with a guy a KTM who "helps" with lack of fitting guides.... he told me KTM keep's everything so secure these days its crazy. He actually managed a way to get me a fitting guide for the spot lights as it wouldn't even print from the system. (probably explains why nothing is online I guess) As for heated grips I cant be sure. I only know one other person who has done this and the did have to remove the fuel tank as the wires were buried quite deep. And he could not fish the connector out. I guess if you can find the connector you could try and short cut it by just connecting it up and " lifting the tank a little just to feed any wired. I don't see why not. But I generally do the long way haha.. I can then learn more about the new bike at the same time. I guess I can do short cuts later on if I feel it is reasonable. Hello there Jonas thanks for the feedback and watching 👍 As for the oem mount it’s only useful on tarmac and decent roads. Even poor tarmac roads the mount vibrates easily. I mean it’s ok. But definitely not off road. You’d want to take your gps off that mount if you take it off road for sure 👍

@Petr Vogt Hello Petr! Thanks for watching and the comment! ACC1 and ACC2 is max 10 Amp.. However that doesn't mean you can run 10Amps on it continuous. keep it below by about 10-20%. Aside from that info...If its just the Zumo XT and a mobile. .I am guessing your average smart phone will run 1 to 2 amps and the Garmin around the same probably but best check (mines in the garage packed away somewhere right now). Either way these combined you should be well under the 10A rating anyway. Hope that helps! Ric
And I totally share everybody’s frustration with access to manuals on part of KTM. I absolutely hate not having printed manual with the bike and getting one from Austria is just ridiculous. I actually did it once for my SDR, I don’t think I am doing it again. And for accessories it is flat out shame. KTM does so much well, but I can’t wrap my mind around why manuals have to be such PITA.

I do have one question if your able to answer (if you've got time)....is there a way to adjust the angle of the sat nav mount without dismantling it ? 🤔..... Hiya Ash.... Firstly thank you for the positive feedback. Appreciated mate. And glad to help out. As for the Mount itself. you dont dismantle it at all... Your not the first and wont be the last!! Hi Ricardo just fitting the Garmin to the long awaited GPS Mount - I had to cut the bolts as they were to long and not happy with the finish, what size did you fit or have you got a better hack saw. won't tell you that I had it upside down back to front. :)
Haha 😂 your secret is safe with the web!! Anyway about the bolts they are a tag long but fit. I didn’t have to change anything. It was kind of a puzzle if I remember that has to fit one side, slide the mount on but keep the bolts loose enough to get the other bolts in on the opposite side. When all tightens up they just touch. But not enough to cause problems when adjusting the mount. Your not the first to say they had to cut or get smaller bolts. I seems to have managed ok. On another note… you do know how to adjust the angle of the SATNAV once fitted? That’s another one I’ve had questions on 👍
Yeah I bet it’s quite interesting being in a position to compare. I meant the geometry and low cog due to the bladder tanks must be very apparent. It’s Avery well put together package. Albeit slowly a few gremlins are coming to light but nothing that would change my mind about getting it 👍

También si usted mira mi video y el marco libre en los cables que usted verá mi cable rojo vivo del Garmin se conecta a negro y el cable negro negativo de mi Garmin alimenta a marrón. Esto también sugiere que el negativo de ACC1 y Acc2 es marrón. Hey Ricardo ! Again different on the 1290 SADV R the ACC1 & ACC2 are on the back of the bike just under the seat .. much easier to plug different things.. no need to remove all the plastic… much easier
Hi Dan there is also ACC1 and ACC2 on the rear of the SAS. However for the high mounted SATNAV it’s not practical to run the wires from the rear. For a clean look it’s better to have the wires run from the front 👍 Otherwise you’ll be wanting to remove front panels anyway to try and cross the bars and forks up behind the screen mounts. I know this as it was always an option for the handle bar mounted SATNAV powering. But didn’t work out so great for high level on front of the bike if you know what I mean
Haha no problem mate! good luck! If you are mounting the SATNAV high level on the windscreen like the power part KTM mount location (and want to keep the wires hidden for the factory type finish) Your going to have to hide your wiring somehow. The only cleanest way if you are running wires from the back of the bike is remove the storage box, then remove the centre tank panel, run wires through or around the handlebars and up behind the display. Cant see another way if your not hot on the idea of removing the other bits as shown. I didnt like wires through or around the bars personally. Let me know how you get on!

Hi Dan I agree I’m getting the Perun Moto support also but for mainly terrain use and when using SAR screen. As the high level mount exposes the SATNAV too much above the SAR screen for my liking. Also the Perun Moto looks quality. I will still use the tall screen and PP mount on long haul. Both High level and handle bar mount each have their own pros and cons I guess .👍
Hello Ric ! Sorry to bother, I’m looking for your experience and opinion… do you think possible to plug an USB to a tank bag from the USB plug inside the storage compartment ? I’m not sur it can remain open while riding, or if it’s possible to close it with a wire going out.. Do I have to plug another wire on ACC2, and use a different path under the fairings ? Hello Pierre. Not a problem at all my friend. In fact I was considering a powered tank bag at one time but decided it was not for me. However to answer your question. The USB socket in the storage compartment is a switch live so whatever you plug in will turn off with the bike once the ignition is off. So no risk of draining the battery of the bike. And for your information it is a 5V supply and 2.1Amps which these days is your standard requirement for smart phones and tablets and GPS etc etc. So yes the USB port is fine in terms of power supply. However you cannot shut the the lid of the storage compartment if you have a lead running from it to a tank bag. If it rains you will risk getting anything inside wet. And also I would not want to get the USB contacts wet. You will see it has its own rubber weather cap still even though it is within the storage compartment. You have a couple of other options still. 1) Quick fix is to get a 12v usb adapter and just plug it in under the display of the bike as and when you want to use the power to supply the tank bag (just keep the socket and USB lead in the tank bag for when you need to charge or require power. Again I am not sure on the safety of water in the 12v socket so its your choice running this in the wet. (personally again I would not) 2) Other option as you said the ACC2 is always a good choice. If you have already used the ACC2 at the front of the right fairing to power a screen mounted satnav. You can still share this connection as it is rated to 10AMP. so another USB device would not take it anywhere near this limit. (PS just for info you should never run it close to the limit anyway - personally I would not run any more than 8amp total on a 10 amp rated circuit. ALSO as you are running a tank bag and not needing to cross the void between the tank and the screen with trying to wire up a screen satnav. You wont need to hide wiring as much. SO it is probably easier and much faster to connect to the ACC2 connection under the rear pillion seat. It is exactly the same labelling. Just remove the storage box, then the rider seat, then the two bolts securing the middle centre tank panel. Then just pop this centre tank panel off. And try and run the wiring from the rear under here. MUCH Less hassle than taking all the front and side panels off. Unfortunately for a clean Screen mounted satnav that's the best way. But not for a tank bag or Bar mounted Satnv. Running from the rear end is much faster and as tidy! Hope that helps! Thanks Ric

The idea to take power from the rear ACC2 is brilliant… but as I was thinking about a way to convert the 12V ACC2 plugs to 5V USB/phone plug, I thought that I probably won’t have the tank bag every time… which means there will be a powered cable outside, and probably hiting the fairings while I ride… That’s too bad because I like clean and permanent solutions, like the way your GPS is plugged (and mine, thanks to you) so getting power from the rear ACC2 was perfect… I’ll keep it in mind ! So I think there’s 2 solutions remaining, the 12V adapter that I can use when I need to power my phone, and store in the tank bag the rest of the time… you’re right, that’s not really a problem to have a wire between screen and bag, as it’s not permanent… Perhaps there’s an other way… I found back an old power bank, small enough to fit in the storage compartment… so I can plug it on my phone in the bag and reload it in the storage compartment. No wire, everything remains waterproof… That will give me a power bank powered tank bag :) I’ll try both solutions when I’ll receive my tank bag… Thank you again for your answer ! Hello Thomas! Yes I love my 1290 I swapped to the R version to try something different but is still 1290 super adventure. I live the bike. It is good I now owned both. And I can see the merits of either. I do live the colour of the new white / grey SAS. And they have improved the indicator switch. Lovely looking bike. The SAR seems to to work for me too. Although I do miss the anti dive that is on the SAS. Apart from that it pretty much does the same thing for me. I just don’t have to be as careful with rough terrain or bumps! Go for it 👍

Hiya! I don’t have auxiliary lights but considering them although my dealer said I’ve a minimum 2 month wait lol. So sorry can’t tell you about wiring up. However ACC2 is 12v switch live. So not 5v dedicated for SATNAV. My garmin zumo XT has its own transformer built into the hardwire lead. I used the ACC2 as it was the best location to draw power from and keep a clean finish regarding wiring. There could be quite possibly a chance this ACC2 should be used for Auxiliary lights in addition to any sub harness they come with potentially. I can’t be sure. Either way ACC2 is 12v. USB port in the storage compartment on top of the fuel tank is 2.1. Amp, and obviously the cigarette style socket beneath the dispplay is 12v. Sorry if not much help on that one mate! Cheers Ric

The lock unit is designed to attach to the cross bar/rod that forms part of their own mounting plate 👍 Also the lock unit is so dam heavy it would destroy the plastic KTM gps mount eventually and vibrate like you’ve never seen before However when attached to the rock solid base of their own mount you could probably hang off it , it’s so solid

Hello my friend haha I have my KTM aux lights too. I will need to arrange time to install. They will go to ACC2. However the fuel tank needs to come off. Hiya Simon yup could have been better I agree. But it’s just a 30 min job after all. Also if your bar mounting the SATNAV you can always run the power from the ACC2 under the pillion Seat. Only for the front mounted stuff it’s ideal to use the front power lines so you don’t need to cross the void between the tank and the dash. 👍
Hello mate. Cant recall off the top of my head. but all the necessary tools are in the tool kit under your seat providing you have the correct kit. Apart from I think 1 torx which I think I mention in the video somewhere. (I think)
Way too much trouble to get switched power to my GPS. Easier way was to splice into the wires for the USB port for the top storage box. The wires are 12V to the 5V converter so I have both a 12V power to my handlebar mounted GPS and 5V USB for my phone in the storage box.
Hiya to be fair it’s not that hard to receive a few screws and a bit of patience. Particularly with a vid step by step. I would rather do that with a new bike given the value of the bike than cut into anything. If ever you have an electrical problem and want a warranty claim you may just be giving them a way out. If in warranty I would never considering making any wiring modifications regardless of how simple and quick. That USB feed was not designed for that intention hence KTM made two power feeds available at the front and two spare at the rear. That would be my first call. If it’s too much work for accessing the front then I’d trail wires from under the rear seat to the front before I cut into anything. Just my two cents. But yeah I agree I’ve done the same on old bikes. But no way this one 👍💪
I have the 2020 SAS. KTM still could have done a lot better, but at least you'll only need to do it once? I also connected to both 1 and 2 and just left one as a hot SAE - Battery Tender connection.
Hi Kari Thanks for watching and also the comment! A very good question. My reasons are : 1) I don't want to keep plugging my SATNAV in each time I use it. I wanted to hardwire and hide the wiring for that clean factory type finish. Also the 12v socket is not that great in wet weather if you have connection on it in my experience. 2) Also I did not want to cut into or join the wiring of the existing 12V socket when there is already available wiring for accessories available for this which are easily accessible. It looks a lot but in reality its just a few panels and bolts. nothing complicated. Altogether I achieve the clean look, no need to plug into the 12v socket and in my opinion have a better all weather setup the way it is wired in now. There is also an ACC1 and ACC2 connections in the rear - However these are better if you want to hard wire a SATNAV to the handlebars and probably quicker to do. Only if you want to mount at the front high level its better to take the feed from the front if you don't want to see wires pass through your bars or around. Overall I believe its the bets approach. But of course I am always open to better suggestions! Again great to hear from you and thanks for watching! Cheers Ric
Hi Lorenz, That sounds very odd as all your doing is connecting a power source to a device. As long as you have connected it correctly I cannot see how your getting any errors. As you can see from the comments below this works as others have done it and have had no issues. This bike is still very new so any errors you are seeing you better get KTM to double check with their diagnostics. I am unaware at present of any home fix for this. It would be interesting to see what errors you are actually showing when you say multiple errors? Thanks Ric

Your video sped up my work considerably. Thanks a lot ! I just wired Radar Screamer to front ACC2 (I always run RS with V1 detector on all my bikes). BTW, I love manufacturers who pre-install these access points. BMW does it well, Aprilia may throw one in there. The only bike that I had so far and had none of it was Panigale V4. I solved that one with a relay to a switch circuit, but it takes much longer.. For nav I am going to install another mount for my TrailTech and wire probably to rear ACC2. I like it a lot for off-roading on a single track on my EXCF500, but I can find use for it on SAS too.

Great video. Helped me a ton. The ACC2 can also be found under the seat.
Two things:
- I got a tip to connect a wire to the ACC2 connector and lengthen it back to the seat and connect the GPS power there so that it’s easier to disconnect when selling the bike by just hiding the power cable under the tank cover.
And the other quite important thing I found by accident. You can also find the ACC2 under the seat, furthest back on the left side. This I found after I was done with the full process as described in this video 🙃

Yes I am aware of the rear ACC2. However I prefer not to run cables from the rear when there is one at the front and only takes half hour or so to access. But thats definitely a brilliant idea you mentioned about running an extension from it for easy access! Thanks for that. I never thought!!

Hi Ric, thanks for this how to video. I just followed it to install my Garmin. Also used your other video to install the Touratech mount and locking Dock. I also had to remove the right hand engine bars to get the lower fairing off. So many panels and screws!
Why a simple access panel couldn't have been designed in is beyond me.
BTW I also followed your your engine bar install video a while back so thanks very much.
As a foot note to your Christmas video I also took your advice to get checked out yesterday and all is well. Love the channel so keep doing your thing as long as you're having fun. All the very best.

Hello John and good morning ! Cheers for the message and great to hear you found some of the clips useful. Yeah if you have engine bars it’s a few more things to remove when taking panels off 😂. All easy though. You will do it with your eyes closed after a couple of times. But seems a lot initially. And nice one on getting checked out 🙏. It’s buggy and most of us blokes never think about it but great news is it’s getting more and more momentum and PR. It’s no time at all to get checked out 👍🙏

Putting it back together was much easier than i expected. Great fit from KTM.
I used two "zip tie sticky pads " ( don´t know the right term ) inside the arm for the screen. In that way the cable is completely hidden and you don´t need the zip ties around the arm.

Hello Ricardo at last got my 1290 s and all the bits for Garmin. Just a question. The Touratech mount and the Garmin fixing bracket are just grey steel. Would it look better if I sprayed them Matt black before installing? Obviously just your opinion.
@stephenalbert856 hello mate. Yes they are just steel. I never bothered to paint mine. Pure personal taste. If you do I’d prefer powder coating rather than a rattle can. 👍. No harm if you do. Others have done it too 😁

Blimey! I’m glad I opted to just run a feed from the rear ACC 2 for my sat nav. I just ran the wire under the tank clipped on cover. Besides I suspect the dealer will need the front ACC outputs for the auxiliary lights if they ever arrive!
Hiya Bruce ! Yes the alternative option is the rear ACC2. I think if I were to position my SATNAV on the handlebars that would be easier as its on the correct side of the handlebars. I am not sure where you position your SATNAV?
When mounted high on the front of the screen then cleanest finish with no visible cables seen the front ACC2 is the cleanest way. Literally zero visible wires. The bike looks as though the SATNAV is built in 👍. If you were to run from other end (rear) of the bike you still need to remove all the fairing to hide the wiring to run up to the high level SATNAV mount at the front. Hence using front ACC2
There is also ACC1 still free at the front in the worst case of ACC2 being required for anything else later on I guess. 👍
It was not a hard job though. Just a few panels and screws and half hour 💪 😂

Hi Stuart.. FYI forgot to add there are ACC1 and ACC1 in the rear under the passenger seat. Easier to use if you bar mount the SATNAV and dont need to cross the void to the front screen. Otherwised if the front screen is where you mount (if you get the bike) the tidy way is use the ACC1 and ACC2 as shown in the vid! Cheers Ric

I spotted two sets of acc connectors under the rear seat; one of which is acc2 witched and much easier to get to than front Acc2. Connected my Zumo to the rear acc2 connector under rear seat and all works. Hope this helps those a bit wary of taking their KTM to bits ;-)
Hello Frank. Yes mate agreed another option. And some have already used that. It’s not really a big deal getting the panel off and getting to the front ACC. Yeah probably daunting at first but once you done it once you realise it’s easy. And a lot tidier that running a meter or so of wiring from the rear around the side and up the front of the bike when there are a connector right there. No rules how to do it as long as you got it done 👍💪 Cheers for the reminder though regarding this additional connection 🙏

Great video - as always but I'd suggest the number #1 thing to do (at 10:30) is TEST IT by connecting it up to your SatNav before reassembly!!!!

As you have already seen I don't mind stripping stuff down off a brand new machine and seeing how they are assembled. I like to learn myself a new machine (before I "have to" learn.. if you know what I mean haha). I have done it on all of my past bikes over the years. I am currently working on stuff not based in the workshop as usual and trying to get out and on the bike for a change. Let see lol.
Good luck with the purchase and hope you go through with it. I am not sure of your style or bike or riding background. But I am a "slowly ageing" ex 1000cc Race bike rider and enjoy all the thrills that come with those bikes. Its great to finally have a perfect bike (For me anyway) that I am not crippled after a long ride like a race bike but still gives the "buzz". I hope the long term it is reliable. :)

Hello again Ric! my current bike is a Honda vfr800x Crossrunner and I am very happy with it, no problems in 4 years, but it amazes me how complicated a simple change of air filter is - for example - and the amount of time to do it. @@Guillebricks hey there again! Ah I see I’ve used a cross runner before and very reliable bikes and nice to ride . No effort. If your switching to a 1290 man your in for a surprise 💪 !! Also from what I have seen thee are so simple and quick to maintain. Panels off in no time if you need to. Air filters and oil changes a breeze! KTM did a fantastic job on it! Although I am guessing their service fees won’t be any less even though it takes less time to get to the stuff 🤔 we shall see! I still need my service stamps for warranty so will soon find out haha! But definitely don’t be put off messing with your bike. I won’t be waiting every 10km for my service even though that’s the requirement. I’ll be doing an interim service myself. But yeah keep at it and before you know it you’ll be flying through your own maintenance in no time. I now only have this one bike so any work I have to complete in one go and no mistakes 🤣

Hi Ric, have followed your channel and used several videos to add some neat accessories to my new 2023 SAS. I've added the Touratech mount, hardwired an XT2, installed the bash plate all following your excellent videos, thanks! About to install the auxiliary lights so have watched that video a couple of times. I have two questions - 1. do you have to take the tank off? Mine is empty :) but wondered if you could empty it, if needed, through the petcocks? 2. how do you find the vibration? It's the one disappointing factor so far! I have a 2021 SuperDuke R too and that is smooth as silk. Anyways, keep up the great work! D
Hello David and thank you for the comment! Its nice to hear you found some of my clips useful cheers. Take your time on the Aux light one. that is easily the longest job I did on the 1290 and one I ended up paying to be done instead for my SAR (haha I could not be arsed to do that again). But no you do not actually need to remove the tank. I have seen our KTM techs at work and the take all the panels off (still cant avoid that). But instead of removing the tank they managed to feed the wires through from one side to the other by wiggling the tank about making gaps without physically taking it off the bike. HOwever if you do decided to remove it then you could drain the fuel from the petcocks if you wanted although I would not. I am not sure if you would run the risk of getting some airlocks in the system after (I am not a tech so may be talking rubbish. However my rule of thumb is that if you dont need to do something then dont...) As for vibration I never had an issue or I am just tolerant lol... So far so good and even my new SAR rides like my SAS. Same feel.

Thanks for the instructions. But for who’s doing this: I just led the wires to the acc2 at the back of the bike. Under the seat, there is a secondary set acc1 and acc2. Only needed to take off the usb box, the middle tank cover and the seat. And loosen up the right large cover. Garmin Zumo wire is just long enough to reach to the back. Saves some screws to be handled.
Hiya Alex yes I have mentioned the rear connectors in a vid somewhere. You can do it your way of course. However the forward connectors are for front of bike connections and keeps it’s a little cleaner also allowing the rear to be used as and when they might be required. I personally didn’t want to trail wires from the rear all the way to the front but each to their own. It’s just a few minutes more effort after all. 👍

Wow, that was a painful amount of panels just to get access to the ACC2 - I've done this before on the Superduke GT - and it's literally 3 bolts to remove the dash and then connected via spades. Seems really odd that they couldn't put the ACCs in roughly the same spot on this bike, and when they did find a spot, to have it so awkward to get to. Nice work Ric, I always worry I'll scratch something badly while removing plastics :-)

Thank you very much for such a detailed video. I agree that it is much cleaner and tidier to connect to the ACC2 at the front of the bike rather than back. I have one question though... In some other youtube videos, I have seen people removing the TFT display, then the 2 top screws of the headlight to reach to the cables behind the headlight. The cables that you have reached seems to be in a different location. Did KTM change where they store these cables in newer models, or are there available cables behind the headlight as well? If so, wouldn't you think it would be easier, and also "cleaner" to feed the available cable through the hole for the TFT cable and use it for the GPS?

Hello mate and thanks! For sure will put something up about the Garmin. In fact I do actually have a few thoughts on it being my first Garmin. I have owned every top model TomTom previously incuding the current comparative model Rider 550.
I will also do an owners real life review (First 1000 miles) on the 1290SAS shortly too given I am now on 1300!!. I mentioned in my other clip at the end (I think it was the Quick Wash clip) Mine has high speed wobble.. I am currently diagnosing what is causing this.

Hi Ricardo, i did fix mine from the connection on the back of the bike, under the pillion seat. Was a little fiddel to get the wire from the tank to the cocpit but suc6. The cable comes out direct under the tft sreen. So by moving the windscreen up and dwn the cable from the gps is going fine in the hole under the tft screen.

Hey Tony thanks for getting in touch and enjoying the clip. You most definitely can run the SATNAV from the usb as it supplies 2.1 Amps. And also it’s switch Live so only powers with the bike on. However i thought about this too but your still going to be left with trying to neatly run the wires from the front of the wind screen to the usb wiring (assuming you don't want it on your bars). I am a bit OCD and has to be clean. The easiest was was to correctly use the accessory wires behind the panel as shown in the clip. There is no right or wrong way. Bearing in mind if you don’t want to hard wire to the bike you also have the 12v cigarette port under the dash as well as the usb in the storage. Either will suffice for a power supply. However the video I think I found was the cleanest way to achieve a very clinical finish 👍 Cheers Ric

Hi Ric, follow-up question. Ordered the KTM official mount and wired in my garmin 396 lmt-s. There is a fair bit of vibration with the mount when the bike is running, are you seeing something similar with your sat-nav? Previously I used metal mounts off the handlebar clamp with no vibration, wondering if I should move back to this.
Hi there... Unfortunately yes there is mild to moderate vibration. (its not the best location with the attachment points to be fair. Rather a lot of plastic) As that screen mount itself as a structure is pretty flimsy in my opinion.. As you say the Handlebar clamp will be hard to improve upon. I can live with the mild to moderate vibration. Its not that bad I find. But agree if it bugs you then for sure use the handlebars. I just like the screen mount for convenience and of course aesthetics in my opinion.

Hey Ric, just preparing myself for this very same operation. At the same time I will install KTM heated grips. The online instructions say to remove the tank to install grip wiring, but your video showed what I believe is the connector I need to access sitting just underneath the right side snorkel. If that is the connector, I will not have to remove the tank for access or to route the grip wires. Does that sound right to you and also, how are you accessing the instructions for these various operations, please? When I try to use KTM/manuals for info, more often than not I get the 404 message. Hi Peter. Good luck on the task. Apologies for the delayed reply as I have been away this weekend on a Rally event. As for the KTM instructions and fitting guide. I have never found one single accessible install guide so far. For every Power Part I have received the paperwork tells you to go to a link online to download the fitting guide. Absolute garbage unless they are yet to sort this out. VERY VERY frustrating considering how much you are charged for these parts.
Anyway to answer your question. I have a workshop manual and I also have a friends in the "trade". And I also get on well with a guy a KTM who "helps" with lack of fitting guides.... he told me KTM keep's everything so secure these days its crazy. He actually managed a way to get me a fitting guide for the spot lights as it wouldn't even print from the system. (probably explains why nothing is online I guess)
As for heated grips I cant be sure. I only know one other person who has done this and the did have to remove the fuel tank as the wires were buried quite deep. And he could not fish the connector out. I guess if you can find the connector you could try and short cut it by just connecting it up and " lifting the tank a little just to feed any wired. I don't see why not. But I generally do the long way haha.. I can then learn more about the new bike at the same time. I guess I can do short cuts later on if I feel it is reasonable.

Just check the rear Accessory connections under the pillion seat and see what fits. As there are identical access points tucked away usually on the left side under the pillion. 👍

As for the oem mount it’s only useful on tarmac and decent roads. Even poor tarmac roads the mount vibrates easily. I mean it’s ok. But definitely not off road. You’d want to take your gps off that mount if you take it off road for sure 👍

Hello Petr! Thanks for watching and the comment! ACC1 and ACC2 is max 10 Amp.. However that doesn't mean you can run 10Amps on it continuous. keep it below by about 10-20%.
Aside from that info...If its just the Zumo XT and a mobile. .I am guessing your average smart phone will run 1 to 2 amps and the Garmin around the same probably but best check (mines in the garage packed away somewhere right now). Either way these combined you should be well under the 10A rating anyway.

And I totally share everybody’s frustration with access to manuals on part of KTM. I absolutely hate not having printed manual with the bike and getting one from Austria is just ridiculous. I actually did it once for my SDR, I don’t think I am doing it again. And for accessories it is flat out shame. KTM does so much well, but I can’t wrap my mind around why manuals have to be such PITA.

Hi Ricardo just fitting the Garmin to the long awaited GPS Mount - I had to cut the bolts as they were to long and not happy with the finish, what size did you fit or have you got a better hack saw. won't tell you that I had it upside down back to front. :)

Anyway about the bolts they are a tag long but fit. I didn’t have to change anything. It was kind of a puzzle if I remember that has to fit one side, slide the mount on but keep the bolts loose enough to get the other bolts in on the opposite side. When all tightens up they just touch. But not enough to cause problems when adjusting the mount. Your not the first to say they had to cut or get smaller bolts. I seems to have managed ok.
On another note… you do know how to adjust the angle of the SATNAV once fitted? That’s another one I’ve had questions on 👍

Yeah I bet it’s quite interesting being in a position to compare. I meant the geometry and low cog due to the bladder tanks must be very apparent. It’s Avery well put together package. Albeit slowly a few gremlins are coming to light but nothing that would change my mind about getting it 👍

También si usted mira mi video y el marco libre en los cables que usted verá mi cable rojo vivo del Garmin se conecta a negro y el cable negro negativo de mi Garmin alimenta a marrón. Esto también sugiere que el negativo de ACC1 y Acc2 es marrón.
PERO, mi descargo de responsabilidad - Usted realmente debe comprobar con un multímetro para estar seguro. ¡Pero espero que lo que he dicho arriba tenga sentido!

Hey Ricardo ! Again different on the 1290 SADV R the ACC1 & ACC2 are on the back of the bike just under the seat .. much easier to plug different things.. no need to remove all the plastic… much easier
Hi Dan there is also ACC1 and ACC2 on the rear of the SAS. However for the high mounted SATNAV it’s not practical to run the wires from the rear. For a clean look it’s better to have the wires run from the front 👍
Otherwise you’ll be wanting to remove front panels anyway to try and cross the bars and forks up behind the screen mounts.
I know this as it was always an option for the handle bar mounted SATNAV powering. But didn’t work out so great for high level on front of the bike if you know what I mean

If you are mounting the SATNAV high level on the windscreen like the power part KTM mount location (and want to keep the wires hidden for the factory type finish) Your going to have to hide your wiring somehow. The only cleanest way if you are running wires from the back of the bike is remove the storage box, then remove the centre tank panel, run wires through or around the handlebars and up behind the display. Cant see another way if your not hot on the idea of removing the other bits as shown. I didnt like wires through or around the bars personally. Let me know how you get on!

Hi Dan I agree I’m getting the Perun Moto support also but for mainly terrain use and when using SAR screen. As the high level mount exposes the SATNAV too much above the SAR screen for my liking. Also the Perun Moto looks quality. I will still use the tall screen and PP mount on long haul. Both High level and handle bar mount each have their own pros and cons I guess .👍
the touratech gps mount, above the bike display, can't be used with garmin zumo xt?

Sorry to bother, I’m looking for your experience and opinion… do you think possible to plug an USB to a tank bag from the USB plug inside the storage compartment ? I’m not sur it can remain open while riding, or if it’s possible to close it with a wire going out.. Do I have to plug another wire on ACC2, and use a different path under the fairings ?

Hello Pierre. Not a problem at all my friend. In fact I was considering a powered tank bag at one time but decided it was not for me.
However to answer your question. The USB socket in the storage compartment is a switch live so whatever you plug in will turn off with the bike once the ignition is off. So no risk of draining the battery of the bike. And for your information it is a 5V supply and 2.1Amps which these days is your standard requirement for smart phones and tablets and GPS etc etc.
So yes the USB port is fine in terms of power supply. However you cannot shut the the lid of the storage compartment if you have a lead running from it to a tank bag. If it rains you will risk getting anything inside wet. And also I would not want to get the USB contacts wet. You will see it has its own rubber weather cap still even though it is within the storage compartment.
You have a couple of other options still.
1) Quick fix is to get a 12v usb adapter and just plug it in under the display of the bike as and when you want to use the power to supply the tank bag (just keep the socket and USB lead in the tank bag for when you need to charge or require power. Again I am not sure on the safety of water in the 12v socket so its your choice running this in the wet. (personally again I would not)
2) Other option as you said the ACC2 is always a good choice. If you have already used the ACC2 at the front of the right fairing to power a screen mounted satnav. You can still share this connection as it is rated to 10AMP. so another USB device would not take it anywhere near this limit. (PS just for info you should never run it close to the limit anyway - personally I would not run any more than 8amp total on a 10 amp rated circuit.
ALSO as you are running a tank bag and not needing to cross the void between the tank and the screen with trying to wire up a screen satnav. You wont need to hide wiring as much. SO it is probably easier and much faster to connect to the ACC2 connection under the rear pillion seat. It is exactly the same labelling.
Just remove the storage box, then the rider seat, then the two bolts securing the middle centre tank panel. Then just pop this centre tank panel off. And try and run the wiring from the rear under here. MUCH Less hassle than taking all the front and side panels off. Unfortunately for a clean Screen mounted satnav that's the best way. But not for a tank bag or Bar mounted Satnv. Running from the rear end is much faster and as tidy!

The idea to take power from the rear ACC2 is brilliant… but as I was thinking about a way to convert the 12V ACC2 plugs to 5V USB/phone plug, I thought that I probably won’t have the tank bag every time… which means there will be a powered cable outside, and probably hiting the fairings while I ride…
That’s too bad because I like clean and permanent solutions, like the way your GPS is plugged (and mine, thanks to you) so getting power from the rear ACC2 was perfect… I’ll keep it in mind !
So I think there’s 2 solutions remaining, the 12V adapter that I can use when I need to power my phone, and store in the tank bag the rest of the time… you’re right, that’s not really a problem to have a wire between screen and bag, as it’s not permanent…
Perhaps there’s an other way… I found back an old power bank, small enough to fit in the storage compartment… so I can plug it on my phone in the bag and reload it in the storage compartment. No wire, everything remains waterproof…
That will give me a power bank powered tank bag :)
I’ll try both solutions when I’ll receive my tank bag…

@@Pierretuilier Ah it sounds like you have thought a lot on it and have found a very practical solution. I agree if you can just use a portable power pack as they are small. Just charge it in the stroage box and use it in the tankbag when needed. No effort at all :)

Hiya Terje! Great to hear it helped you! As for the thing that looks like a button.. I understand that to be related to the bikes connectivity fucntions ie bluetooth. I have not checked the manual but I know I think what your referring to. As everyone at some point asks about that on the FB forums lol. It does look a little strange at first. :)

Hello Thomas! Yes I love my 1290 I swapped to the R version to try something different but is still 1290 super adventure. I live the bike. It is good I now owned both. And I can see the merits of either.
I do live the colour of the new white / grey SAS. And they have improved the indicator switch. Lovely looking bike.
The SAR seems to to work for me too. Although I do miss the anti dive that is on the SAS. Apart from that it pretty much does the same thing for me. I just don’t have to be as careful with rough terrain or bumps!

Ah, here it is :-) Is ACC2 specifically for Satnavs, so 5V? Any idea where the Aux lights connect?
Hiya! I don’t have auxiliary lights but considering them although my dealer said I’ve a minimum 2 month wait lol. So sorry can’t tell you about wiring up. However ACC2 is 12v switch live. So not 5v dedicated for SATNAV. My garmin zumo XT has its own transformer built into the hardwire lead. I used the ACC2 as it was the best location to draw power from and keep a clean finish regarding wiring. There could be quite possibly a chance this ACC2 should be used for Auxiliary lights in addition to any sub harness they come with potentially. I can’t be sure. Either way ACC2 is 12v. USB port in the storage compartment on top of the fuel tank is 2.1. Amp, and obviously the cigarette style socket beneath the dispplay is 12v. Sorry if not much help on that one mate! Cheers Ric

If using your KTM GPS mount would a Touratech lockable GPS attach the KTM mounting bar?
Hello !!! In short … No sorry. The lock unit is designed to attach to the cross bar/rod that forms part of their own mounting plate 👍
Also the lock unit is so dam heavy it would destroy the plastic KTM gps mount eventually and vibrate like you’ve never seen before
However when attached to the rock solid base of their own mount you could probably hang off it , it’s so solid

Hello my friend haha I have my KTM aux lights too. I will need to arrange time to install. They will go to ACC2. However the fuel tank needs to come off. It’s at least a couple hours work if not more. I will be putting a vid up at some point but not sure when as I haven’t the time lately . But Acc2 is the way!

Hiya Simon yup could have been better I agree. But it’s just a 30 min job after all. Also if your bar mounting the SATNAV you can always run the power from the ACC2 under the pillion Seat. Only for the front mounted stuff it’s ideal to use the front power lines so you don’t need to cross the void between the tank and the dash. 👍
What sizes and type of screw heads are used here Ricardo?
Hello mate. Cant recall off the top of my head. but all the necessary tools are in the tool kit under your seat providing you have the correct kit. Apart from I think 1 torx which I think I mention in the video somewhere. (I think)

Way too much trouble to get switched power to my GPS. Easier way was to splice into the wires for the USB port for the top storage box. The wires are 12V to the 5V converter so I have both a 12V power to my handlebar mounted GPS and 5V USB for my phone in the storage box.
Hiya to be fair it’s not that hard to receive a few screws and a bit of patience. Particularly with a vid step by step. I would rather do that with a new bike given the value of the bike than cut into anything. If ever you have an electrical problem and want a warranty claim you may just be giving them a way out. If in warranty I would never considering making any wiring modifications regardless of how simple and quick. That USB feed was not designed for that intention hence KTM made two power feeds available at the front and two spare at the rear. That would be my first call. If it’s too much work for accessing the front then I’d trail wires from under the rear seat to the front before I cut into anything. Just my two cents. But yeah I agree I’ve done the same on old bikes. But no way this one 👍💪

I have the 2020 SAS. KTM still could have done a lot better, but at least you'll only need to do it once? I also connected to both 1 and 2 and just left one as a hot SAE - Battery Tender connection.
Why you did not use 12 V socket for loading Navi?
Hi Kari Thanks for watching and also the comment! A very good question. My reasons are :
1) I don't want to keep plugging my SATNAV in each time I use it. I wanted to hardwire and hide the wiring for that clean factory type finish. Also the 12v socket is not that great in wet weather if you have connection on it in my experience.
2) Also I did not want to cut into or join the wiring of the existing 12V socket when there is already available wiring for accessories available for this which are easily accessible. It looks a lot but in reality its just a few panels and bolts. nothing complicated.
Altogether I achieve the clean look, no need to plug into the 12v socket and in my opinion have a better all weather setup the way it is wired in now.
There is also an ACC1 and ACC2 connections in the rear - However these are better if you want to hard wire a SATNAV to the handlebars and probably quicker to do. Only if you want to mount at the front high level its better to take the feed from the front if you don't want to see wires pass through your bars or around.
Overall I believe its the bets approach. But of course I am always open to better suggestions!

Hi, I did the same work on my bike but when I turn it on multiple errors pops up on my screen do you know what the cause is and how I can reset them
Hi Lorenz, That sounds very odd as all your doing is connecting a power source to a device. As long as you have connected it correctly I cannot see how your getting any errors. As you can see from the comments below this works as others have done it and have had no issues. This bike is still very new so any errors you are seeing you better get KTM to double check with their diagnostics. I am unaware at present of any home fix for this. It would be interesting to see what errors you are actually showing when you say multiple errors?
