    Long time no see Rick! I'm glad you still giving us you precious time, well done! First thing I saw OEM mount fitted by yourself, I've ordered that, but never fitted due to lack of sat-nav itself, which I have to purchase first. But now I definitely want this Touratech kit and looks like some lucky soul will get my oem mount for free! Really good piece of kit and looks as nit as original one. Hope my one will be ready for spring and new season. Happy Xmas Rick! :)

      Hiya Rafal thanks mate and good to hear from you again! Yeah sorry I’ve bought another item haha. But after all bikes are for continuous improvements haha… yes the Touratech item is much better but a lot more expensive in unfortunately. I too will be getting rid of my oem one as won’t need that again either! 😁
      Good luck on the new bike order and the waiting 🤤 It’s something to look forward to ☝️
      Keep safe and have a happy Christmas too (or as we are told to say these days “happy holidays” 🤝)

    First off really appreciate the videos and have watched them all - For those playing at home there is actually 3 bolts to remove the screen - two at the top and the pivoting one at the bottom - I only mention this as when I did mine I watched your video over and over and could not understand what I did wrong as the screen was not coming off. Just some reassurance for others doing the same yes there is a 3rd bolt :)

      Hi Andy! Ah yes TomTom. I sold my top of the range Rider 550 in order to buy this one instead. This is my first Garmin but have used Garmin before years ago. I have to say it was a very good surprise. In comparison the screen is much nicer and the the speed at which it changes to the touch is better and more responsive than my rider 500.
      Overall though they do pretty much the same thing to be honest so your not missing out. I just think the styling and look of the Garmin XT does really suit the 1290 TFT screen below. Very modern looking like a tablet.
      Thanks again for the thumbs up!

    Great video. I was watching it because I've installed the XT2 version on my '23 1290 SAR but the locking mount interferes with the windscreen mounting arms. It all works, but the windscreen support arms rub on the Touratech mount. I haven't ridden with it yet, but I think windscreen vibration will be transferred to the GPS which negates any advantage of the Touratech dash mount. It looks like the XT2 mount must be slightly wider than the XT.

    Hi Rick. That's a Sherman tank mount. Looks good. I have on order a mount and key lock system from Phil Nichols at Moto Mate in the UK. It sits in the same position just above the main screen. A lot lighter weight so maybe not as theif proof. Cost for the mount aprox 90 pound and the lock system 60 pound. I haven't received it yet so cross the fingers.

    Hi Rick,
    First of all, thank you for all your great videos! They have helped me a lot, especially the one where you removed the DB killers 😉
    I just received my Zumo XT GPS Locking mount and installed it the same way you did. However, when it's installed the mount doesn't open (spread) enough to remove or insert the GPS. The two posts that keep the screen in place are too close to the edges of the mount which prevents it from opening far enough.
    I can move the screen completely up, and then turn the mount a bit down and that will give just enough clearance to remove the GPS from the mount. This means however that I can never really tighten the mount, and over time it will come loose and I will have to remove the screen to tighten the nuts that attach it to the round bar.
    How did you overcome this problem? (PS. I'm using the standard screen)

    • @RicardoYeep
      @RicardoYeep  Před 2 lety

      Hi Alexander!! Thank you my friend for watching and sending a message. Apologies for the delay as I have started a new job and not back until late.
      Regarding your question. There is no alternative solution. I too have to make adjustments to install and remove the SATNAV from the locking mount. It is a tight squeeze as you too experience.
      The only thing is to make sure your bolts are tight and also if you want to be extra safe apply some blue threadlock liquid.. It will be solid and should not work loose. But yes I am the same. I would need to remove the screen if the situation arose where I needed to tighten the bolts. But so far even with my off road use my bolts are still solid and I never used threadlock. I think its something that isnt too much to worry about to be honest. Unless you keep manually tilting the SATNAV (which I do not) then it should just stay in place.
      Cheers
      Ric :)

      Cant go wrong with the Touratech kit. yes it is close however it just means that you will need to wind the screen either up or down to access the lock barrel. I have tried it with both SAR and SAS screen and I seem to manage albeit is a bit tricky if you have a bunch of keys... Definitey easier with a sole key to twist!

    Thanks so much for the nice vids!

    • @RicardoYeep
      @RicardoYeep  Před 2 lety +1

      Hiya Pascal! great to hear from you mate. As for the Garmin lock and Touratech setup I have to say faultless in my opinion and experience in using in different conditions. This thing is bomb proof. Just one thing to bear in mind is that although it locks your unit in place. It will only prevent a quick snatch and grab if attempted (if that was one of your concerns). NEVER leave leave your unit on if you plan on abandoning the bike to walk around town. As the GPS and lock unit is attached to the cross member (rod) on the GPS mount. As you know this mount is only kept in place by a hex bolt either side which are easily removable in a few minutes.
      So for a coffee and petrol fill with the bike in view. its great as you can have one less thing to carry or remove. BUT remove it when you leave the bike alone.
      As for stability its a rock solid setup. The only thing to also point out is the fact that as the GPS mount itself. (Touratech) is mounted to the same plate as the TFT screen. Whenever or if you ever decided to tilt the display in another angle. the GPS mount moves with it and so will the GPS! It should not be materially much. However it something to mention.
      If you do have the time and access to a local powder coater. It maybe look a little better if the GPS mount was black. But that's a personal thing. You cant see much of it to be fair. And I am not sure you could even paint the lock unit as so many moving parts you would not want to seize up with painting. But I wish they did something to make it a little less stand out.
      If you have a SAR screen then much easier to take the GPS out the lock unit and put back. However for both SAS and SAR screens you will need to position the screen height with the adjusters to a suitable position each time you wish to open the lock unit. As being in the incorrect position the screen mounts will prevent the clamps from full opening. Again not an issue but something to remember.. As it did puzzle me for a few seconds (initial thought was WTF is going on here, until I sussed it out).
      Hope that helps! No regrets at all. And thank you for the great feedback. !
      Ric

    Hello Rick. Couple of questions, please. Firstly, does the screen get in the way of inserting the key into the lock on the top of the mount? Secondly, if that were to be the case (as I have experienced with the Wunderlich mount) can the Touratech cradle be mounted upside down so that key access is underneath (with more access space), rather than on top? Thanks for any advice you can offer.

    • @RicardoYeep
      @RicardoYeep  Před 2 lety

      Hello mate. The key access is pretty tight with the S screen for sure however it is made easier to access by tilting the tft screen towards you if you need to make it a bit easier. Also adjust the windscreen position. It's not ideal but is fine and you can access the key lock. I run the R screen so is a lot easier.
      As for the mount... from memory I don't think you can install it upside down as I think I tried that too. I think the problem then becomes you cannot access the power on/off button as the clamps are designed to allow access when installed correctly 👍

      Hi Jon, You can still access the key to lock and unlock but will need to position the screen in order to do so. If the screen is at its lowest position then you cannot access the key. But if you raise the screen up then you can create more clearance. Also the GPS mount does move with the tilt position of the bike display. Again you may have to make sure the display is tilted forwards in its most forward position. I ride in this position already anyway. But tall riders may have the screen tilted towards the screen which may be a small nuisance if you regularly want to unlock the SATNAV

    I originally used the KTM mount,but found it vibrated even with the bike idling and worse when riding(the Touratech mount is probably just too heavy for it),i bought a cheap aluminium mount off ebay for £25 which has been fine,but i do like the look of that Touratech mount,i assume its galvanised or its going to rust up.

    • @RicardoYeep
      @RicardoYeep  Před 2 lety +1

      Hiya Steve yeah mate I completely agree. The weight of the lock kit and the oem mount is definitely a no no. It really does need the solid bracket they the Touratech gps mount provides to the lock kit. It’s a nice bit of kit for sure. And hopefully it’s treated in some manner but will be applying ACF50 anyway just in case. I’d be surprised if Touratech haven’t treated it. It’s very exposed to the elements for sure. And rust would look horrendous there haha.
      Also fyi it’s not a lock and forget unit. It’s more to ensure a solid fix and also no risk of it popping out under bumpy terrain. It’s very secure. Also great for convenience at stops where you can see the bike and just fancy a break. And leave it on the bike. No kids running up pulling it off and running lol.
      But it is still removable with the two Allen bolts at each end of the rod!!

One observation regarding the whole lockable bit, the round bar it is monuted to is only held on by a screw either end, if you undo those with a standard allen key you walk off with the lot! Hiya Mark thanks for for comment and also the info. Yes I agree the bolts are a weakness however this is not meant for you to walk away and go explore a town with it left. Or left overnight on your bike I think. I think it’s more to be a more secure mount with little to zero vibration and also zero risk of it popping off the “dodgey” Zumo mount which does look a little feeble. And for me the convenience of leaving it on the bike at fuel and lunch stops where I can leave it on the bike without risk of a person simply walking by snatching it and running off / or a traffic light snatch. I think that’s the main application 👍

Cela a semblé l'améliorer.

    One question: i build a similar mount for my 2019 sas. It is exactly the same way attached to the bike's screen. Because the screen is mounted on damping-rubber, it has some flex. So, my gps holder accumulates this flex, with this result: the GPS shakes quite a bit.( on rough- and offroad)...
    I guess, the Touratech holder has the same issue. If not, how did you solve the vibrations ?
    Thx

    • @RicardoYeep
      @RicardoYeep  Před 2 lety

      The touratech holder is very solid. I did a full weekend off road rally and left my gps in place. Was very sturdy unlike the OEM. I can’t even move the thing if I tried 👍

    • @Francis-mr7jx
      @Francis-mr7jx Před 2 lety +1

      @@RicardoYeep strange. When i grab the the screen of my sas i can move it ( because it is fitted in rubber dampers) .
      Everything you attach at the screen has to move with it...
      It is not that much, but nowhere as sturdy like f.i. at a gs..
      Ofcourse, the oem holder is a shame for ktm. The latest model has exactly the same holder: useless off road

      @RicardoYeep  Před 2 lety

      @@Francis-mr7jx hi Francis. I don’t think you understood what I meant. I use the touratech GPS mount. It is secured to the solid base that the TFT display screen is actually bolted to. It does not move at all. There is no contact with the wind shield at all 👍

  • @florinflorin8348
    @florinflorin8348 Před 2 lety +1

    Hei Ric, thx for sharing. I have exactly same gps, with the oem holder. Really shaking on off-road. My concern is not to lose it while riding :)) I took into consideration this touratech system, but oh boy that’s a heavy big thing there. On the other hand… why did they left it unpainted 🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️
    At the beginning of your video I was 100% sure I won’t mount on my bike this metal, castle secured , jail locking system lol… but now I am having second thoughts 🤦🏻‍♂️😂 maybe it’s a good thing. For security onroad, off-road… etc

    • @RicardoYeep
      @RicardoYeep  Před 2 lety +3

      Hiya Florin, I know what you mean I have the OEM mount too and it vibrates a little on road which I can put up with. But no way would I leave the SATNAV mounted on the OEM one while going off-road. That thing is going to come off the clip. Id put it in a bag until back on road.
      But this Touratech Lock kit is pretty serious kit. it does weigh a bit and is as solid as it looks. And that GPS mount base is like a steel girder. It is solid too. Overall the GPS will be as solid and stable as the bikes own TFT display.
      if you have the SAR screen it will be much easier to lock and unlock. As the SAS screen is large it can interfere with access. You need to raise the screen to the high position to assist. Also you may need to tilt the display TFT forwards towards you (as the GPS mount moves with it). this will also allow for more access.
      Cheers
      Ric

    • @RicardoYeep
      @RicardoYeep  Před 2 lety +1

      Hi Alex no problem don't worry is very easy once you know. There are only 3 bolts to remove altogether and one threaded bush/block of aluminium tubing.
      1 bolt either side (total 2 bolts) at the top of the screen "mount" (the bit that the TFT tilts on). And one bolts on the lower part on the left side of the bike. Once you remove this one you will need to use a maybe a screw driver or long allen key to push the "threaded bush" out the otherside. For peace of mind make sure you know how this pops back in for when you come to install again. And also note the position of your TFT screen too (where it is tiled). Probably best start with the TFT tiled towards you at its max position. Then you know where you are. Once you have this off you casn then simple get to the 4 bolts on the back to attached the GPS brakcet!
      Good luck. Any issue let me know.

Needs a key to remove it if you choose to lock it to the bike.

      @RicardoYeep  Před 2 lety +1

      Hiya William! Yes I agree… it’s not a solution to leave your sat Nav on and go leave the bike for a walking around town as such 👍
      Mainly for safekeeping of the device from popping out the carrier and being a more robust vibration free mounting.
