- DIY | How to build a King Size Farmhouse Bed | Farmhouse Platform Bed. My wife has been wanting a Farmhouse style bed for our bedroom. After me putting it off for over a year I finally decided to go ahead and build her one to make her "Happy"! I must say I'm a little biased because I think it came out great!!
Tools needed:
Circular Saw
Drill
Sander
1 1/4 Brad nails and nailer
Pocket Hole Jig
2 1/2" Pocket screws
2" screws
3" screws
Stain
Wood Filler
Glue
Joist hangers
Tape Measure
"Patience"!!
Shopping List:
5- 1'x8'x8' Pine Board for panels
8- 1"x4"x8' Pine Board (trim for panels)
2- 4'"x4"x8' Post for legs
2- 2"x4"x8' (Top of Panels, you can use studs)
8- 2"x6"x8' (Top of headboard cap, footboard cap, and Bed frame joists)
2- 2"x10"x8' Boards for siderails of the bed
2- 4'x8' 1/2" Plywood for frame (if you do not have box springs)
12- 2"x6" Joist hangers
Stain of choice or paint
Wood glue, if you buy small bottle then you will need 3 bottles
Cut List:
Headboard
(10) 1"x8" @ 30" Panel Pieces
(2) 1"x3" @ 30" Sides of panels
(4) 1"x4" @ 80" Panel Trim Pieces
(2) 4"x4" @ 54" Headboard Legs
(1) 2"x4" @ 87" Bottom Header
(1) 2"x6" @ 89" Top Header
Footboard
(10) 1"x8" @ 15" Panels
(2) !"x3" @ 15 " Panel end pieces
(4) 1"x4" @ 80" Panel Trim Pieces
(2) 4"x4" @ 21" Legs
(1) 2"x4" @ 87" Bottom Header
(1) 2"x6" @ 89" Top Header
Side Rails & Cross Braces/Slats
(2) 2"x10" @ 83 1/2" Side rails
(6) 2"x6" @ 77" Cross Braces or Slats for box springs or plywood
tip Cut and layout all of your panel boards before cutting the headers. This will make sure you have the right length!
All of the "slats or Joists" are 16" on center. I placed the 2x10 side rails on the inside of the headboard legs flush with back of 4x4 and screwed them in with 3" screws. The side rails are mounted to the foot board with decking mounting brackets for easy removal.
Any questions then shoot me a comment and I will get back to you as soon as possible.
Thanks for watching! - Jak na to + styl
Would love to go back to the day that OSB was 10 dollars a sheet!!
Will probably never see that bud not with the commander and chief we have
I remember when OSB was $7 and 1/2” CDX was like $12
Thank you for making it something regular guys like me can afford to do
Thanks for adding the materials and cuts-super helpful.
Great way to use joist hangers. Pretty, strong and simple.
I plan on making a canopy style bed using your formula... thanks so much for posting this!
Thank you for sharing your design and detail cut list.
After watching your video i think i can actually make this. Appreciate everything you do and show.
I love the joist hanger idea!!
Thanx man! I can't wait to "try" to build one for the wife!
Followed your video and instructions and just finished my bed! I love it.
Started this bed today. Only have the footboard assembled so far. Loving how beautiful and simple this is. Thank you so much!
I am halfway through making this right now. Thank you very much for the detailed video.
Cheers from Canada.
Loved your video and your cut list. My husband and i made it together. Thank you much for doing this video
This is great! Thanks for the info. I will be using this video very soon to build our bed frame. We are upgrading to a king size bed!
Just made one for our new house. Cut list is perfect for a king size bed. I painted the bed white instead of staining. Thank you so much!
Awesome! Glad to hear this. I get compliments all the time on the rigidity of this bed. It’s still as strong today as the day I built it and will outlive me lol.
Hello, Can you send me the supply list? I could not find it. Great looking bed!
@@garykboykin7498 all details are in the description. Tap the word "more" and the shopping list and cut list are there. CZcams keeps changing things.
The bed turned out so nice !!! I am making a full size farmhouse bed and love the whole project. I got some nice ideas from your video !!! Thank you for sharing !!!!
Very easy to understand. Great video. I will be making this bed. Thank you for posting free plans, and cut list..

Thanks man built it last week wife and I love it I didn’t have to cut the piece for the head and foot they came out to be exactly what I need thanks again
I'm currently making the bed so far and it's coming together great
This is perfect. I've been looking for a good design for a king size bed. Thanks for posting!
Thank you for making it so easy....I added a couple of boards to make it "mine"..... great video..
Thanks for the video. Just finished my Cali king bed last night. I used pallet wood on the head and foot boards. My head board is taller at 64 and the foot board is 40 just for that bigger bulky look. I also notched my side rails to the post. Really appreciate the shopping list. I paid around $300 for the wood.
thank you so much for this!! I've been looking around for a nice bed w/ a plan to put together and this is PERFECT.
I built this and it is awesome. My wife loves it!
Great video. Thank you for the easy to understand instructions and wood diminsions.
Thank you for posting this video. I built ours and it came out looking great. Perfect for our needs-three dogs-for these chilly nights! Good design, easy to construct with basic tools. much easier to assemble with mentioned jack stands-harbor freight! undercarriage clearance allows standard roll away clothing box.
THANK YOU so much for this video and all the materials!!!!!! We are going to build it exactly the way you did because this is the exact bed I want... thank you thank you!!!
This is the most detailed farmhouse bed DIY on CZcams!! Thank you!!!
Your Welcome. Hope this video helps!!
Thanks man!! I love it! I’m following your lead with a grateful heart! ❤️
Love the simple design. Good work!
I just build this bed with the help of your video it turned out amazing and I love it..thanks
Excellent idea using the hangers for the center supports! And the end blocks too. This would have been very difficult to move if not! Great video.
Just made a variation of this bed! thank you so much for all the effort you put into this video I hope you are doing great! (First project I have done!)
Lucky wife. Turned out very beautiful. Tfs
Great Video! Just built it for my wife. Happy Wife, Happy Life. The only thing I did differently was replace the 1x8 panels with 1x12 and then rip them to 8 inches.
Great idea! Nice bed! I liked your idea of not screwing the joist hangers to the 2x4,s and just letting them sit there and be removable when it's necessary...
Best bed frame video , I'm heading to Home Depot right now to get what I need for this project, I appreciate your time on making this video for us , Thanks a bunch ...
Thanks so much for a great video and exact instructions!!!! I am building this as a birthday present to myself❤️
Video was awesome!!! Thanks so much I will for sure be using you’re measurments
Just about done with mine…followed cut list to a T, ended up getting 1 more 1x8, and adding 2 rips to the head board and 2 rips to the footboard. Everything else went perfectly, thanks man!!
Great job.
Great explanation
Thank u for sharing it with us.
Cool video, the bed turned out really nice. That’s for posting.
Fantastic design. Wife wanted bigger headboard so I made it 64" to cap rail. Footboard made to 32" high with 20" square opening in middle so our dogs can crawl under the bed. Also stained the head and footboard slats a weathered grey and everything else a dark kona
I bet that got you a great big "ATTA BOY "!!! Very nice job and thank you for sharing this project. !!!
THANK YOU SOO MUCH FOR THIS!! It looks AMAZING.

Oh, that is beautiful!
This is beautiful! I love the stain as well!
Suzie N Thank you
I just finished building this bed in all cedar. It's absolutely amazing. Thank you for the plans! My husband loves it!
It cost me 500-600. I did buy a few supplies I didn't have.
Same here. I bought it all in pine and it costs me $500 CDN. Most expense part were the 4x4s as I had to get them from a lumber yard and plane them down.
wow its beautiful!! great job!! loved it
I can't wait to do this. I'm decorating a room for a little girl and she wants a farmhouse bed with metallic shiplap walls. You made it look pretty easy. I hope that it is.
Colorfully Living I really isn’t that bad of a build. Would be easier with an extra set of hands tho!!!
One of the best videos I've seen. Nice and easy project anyone can do.
Ish Torres Thanks!!
Great video, I have to build a bed for my Daughter and this just what I’ve been thinking of. Thank You!
Just built mine last night. Everything came out perfect! Only thing was I needed one 30’ 1x8 and one more 15’ 1x8 for the headboard and footboard. Great build!
Thank you!!👍
Nice build. In thinking about making one out of cedar. Only thing I would done diffrent is come up with some way to hide the bracket you had on the foot rail side.
Omg this was just awesome 👏, great job.
Dude you rock, just what i was looking for! Thanks :)
I think you did a great job. I've watched a few others and your attention to detail is far superior to any that I have seen.
It came out super nice.
This is a great video! Thank you for sharing.

The Cosplay Noob J thank you!
Good job - right to the point
Great project, just what I am wanting to do. Thanks for video and lists! Just one suggestion - they make brackets for beds like this that come apart for setup but also are hidden. I think they have them at the Big Box stores or at Woodcraft Stores. Bob
Looks great. Great job
This is beautiful! My husband said he would make me a bed but I had to find a shopping list and diy for him of one... this video could not be more perfect! Thank you so very much! You made my husband's hunny do list much easier! And I saw someone else post about how much you spent and I'm super excited! (I joked to him saying that I am getting my dream bed on sale haha)
i like it. may have to make this when I move to my new house.
Even with the price of 2x4 and 2x6 lumber being so much higher these days it's still an appealing bed.
I built 2 platform beds but I may alter them and incorporate your layered headboard/footboard styles😎👍 great look and beautiful work mate
Good job man. Looks. Awesome👍
