- In this video, I build a DIY platform bed frame. It has modern look, is very strong, and costs only $100. You can break the bed frame down into multiple pieces to get it into the third story of an apartment like I did! Who doesn't love an easy, cheap, and trendy bed frame project?

Very nice cosmetically, but all the load on that bed is supported by 8 pocket hole screws. You need to use proper joinery to attach the rails to the legs or modify design to give rail something to sit on.(eg. Like what you were doing with the scrap lumber when installing rails.) Pocket screws are nice for hiding fasteners and holding things together, but they are not structural by any means, especially in shear.
You are right, to improve current design I am considering to add two dowels for each rail connection to post for more structural strength, however current design still works each rail is attached by 4 pocket screws to the posts and no any signs of failure for about half year time of usage.
Going to build second one for my another son so will implement your advice in practice soon. Thank you for feedback.

I've made a few beds in my time and I've never fixed the slats in place because they're meant to be able to move. Try screwing spacer blocks onto the side rails between the slats instead. Aside from that your design is good and sturdy, I like it. I won't mention the music or the camera work!! Stay safe.
Thank you, yes, I myself have not seen beds with fixed slats before, but to simplify assembly I decided to secure them since the bed is stationary and stands at home, and they create additional rigidity in it. If I have to make another bed, maybe I'll try your spacers idea.

Very nice bed! Like the design! Do you find Fusion to be better for woodworking projects than Sketch-Up? I've been using Fusion for 3d-printing due to its parametric modeling capabilities but have never tried modeling wood-working projects. Also- what software do you use for video editing? Looks very professional!
I glad that you like it, thanks. I tried different software including SketchUp, but always settled on parametric. With Fusion 360 I easily adjust project dimensions able to create detailed plans. Also it's free to hobbyists. I use Davinci Resolve 17 for video editing.

Hi have the pocket screws held up ok. I’m just assembling a similar design and concerned the head and foot will separate when moving it around without coach screws into the end of the rails.
At the moment my bed’s side rails attached only using pocket screws, 4 at each connection. To improve construction strength will add some thick dowels next time.

Hi never touch any connections since I build it, holding well. No any squeaks still solid and pretty sturdy.

The weight of the bed rests on the pocket screws at each corner. This seems to be a bit weak; may be okay for a kids bed.

What's the drill size that you use to make the pocket hole?
It's 3/8" Stepped drill bit. It was included in the Kreg Pocket-Hole Jig 320 Kit, link in the description of this video. So you can check how it looks.

My very tall son has been wanting build his own bed and we couldn't find anything that was suitable for his length.
He is 6 foot 3 inches and at 18 yrs old I'm hoping his growth is over.
Is it possible to make this a little longer and make a book case at the top instead of a normal bed head?

This bed was designed for a twin mattress.
First you need to find a suitable twin XL mattress and increase the length of the side rails, making them 1/2 "longer than the mattress.

а верхний брус у подголовья чем крепили. не понятно из видео. На шкант посадили что ли?
Засверлено угловое отверстие и косой шуруп, вся кровать собрана одним и тем же методом.

Yeah, even attached they still bendable and with such matress thickness, they main purpose is to provide air access the bottom of it for better ventilation.
Good solid work and end result👏, but that music and camera work take away so much from such a good project🤔…I wish you well as a carpenter, stick with this not as a DJ…

No need for a 3D model. Just get your tools out and get on with it.
It can look overcomplicated but I made it to see how the bed will look before I build it. Usually I just draw project in my workbook. But I also like 3D modeling so it was pleasure for me.
