    Just got these and I am very very happy with the sound. I compare the sound to that of the M50xs and I can confidently say that it's a big step up for me personally since the sound overall is just a lot "cleaner" and clearer without getting the least bit thin. If the bass is lacking any, the amount is so small that I can't notice any "lack" of anything so far. The biggest difference between these and M50x is that the M50 produces a bassy film over the sound regardless of musicstyles played. On the MSR7s, the bass will show off when playing bassheavy songs.
    I still liked the M50s, they had great sound quality for its price but the soung signature were fatiguing. The MSR7s are more detailed and clean off any excessive bass but *still* sounds leaner and warmer. Warmer in the sense that it doesn't feel as sharp in the treble. I can finally listen to a lot of the jazz that just sounded too harsch on the m50s.

    Thank you. This video alongside the written materials has been one of the most informative and excellently descriptive reviews I've found. Most reviews tend to a bit skewed by the reviewer's main use (eg. for music, for video editing) which can be difficult if you are not using the headphones for the same purpose. You provide a great overview and more generalized, unbiased description. Fantastic, keep up the good work.

    Glad to see you liked these Tyll! I've really enjoyed them so far. I do get an issue with the headband causing a hot spot on the top of my skull. I would be very afraid to bend the headband like that. Glad you did it. -__- I also think it can be just a bit too bright to always be used safely outside the house, but otherwise I think the MSR7 is a real champ of a headphone.
    I'm looking forward to your take on the M70X, which shares some resemblance to the MSR7, but gets a bit more extreme in some dimensions.

    • @i3Fable

    • @bentobox3140
      @bentobox3140 Před 9 lety +4

      BoredGames I think he's referring to the presence of high frequency treble. When used outdoors you'll naturally turn up the volume. With a high treble headphone, you run the risk of those high frequencies causing hearing damage.

      I am an Audio Enthusiast who is pretty much addicted to music, i listen to music A LOT on-the-go but unfortunately never had a decent pair of headphones, had A LOT but never a good awesome one, recently ive had a some of money almost 250$ but lets say 200$ for now and am interested in buying a pair of headphones, a fter a lot of hours on youtube, amazon and reading reviews i'm torn between the Sennheiser's Momentum ( Over the ear) , the AKG K545 even the sennheiser HD8 Dj ( i know it's a bit pricier and unlike the previous two), Audio Technica's ATH M50x, Sony MDR-1R,Sennheiser HD 598,Philips Fidelio X1 and the Sennheiser HD598
      I know hey are all different in one way or another , i do not have any specific preferences music genre wise, i just want a pair that has an awesome performance and delivers the best music experience, i want to feel the music , get goosebumps you know :)
      Note: i am also planning on buy the Fiio X1 Player
      any additional suggestions are welcome

      Habeeba Shousha I have a Fiio X1 with a 64GB sd card and roughly 2,000 wma lossless audio tracks on it. I am looking into the Audio Technica 'phones, but right now I am using Sennheiser HD449's and they sound pretty good, especially for the price. Right now on Amazon they are going for $51.00. To me, it is a well balanced headphone. Miss and highs are good with decent bass, bass is not overpowering, but definitely there. With your budget, the X1 sd card and headphones would run around $200. Good price for that setup if you ask me.

I'm looking to get a pair of headphones and I'm willing to go up to £150 (around $230/€200), unless I could be convinced that any particular option was worth going slightly above that. I'll be using them at home, so either closed or open back headphones will be fine. I'll be using them for both listening to and producing, mainly electronic music. I'm currently leaning towards the M50x's. Is there a better option in my price range?

I love the QC35, but really for enjoying music, MSR7 nails it, as you got your self one good source of Music, Flac files, DSD,... you'll got yourself a fully enjoyment of High Quality, with a really good sound stage, Treble & Mid extremely precise with Tight, Energetic Bass (though sometimes it can be too tight n short). So it's up to your need to choose.

      Do you need a Mobile amp or a desktop amp? If you need a desktop amp you may look for the Micca Origen+, is a great dac/amp combo for 100 bucks.

    • @FrankyboyLegend
      @FrankyboyLegend Před 8 lety +3

      +Ron Bernard Depends what you want - 50x has deeper sub-bass but not as tight (midbass a tad bit bloated). MSR7 is brighter with more mid emphasis and a slight bass roll-off.

    The Sony MDR-1A (the newer model of the MDR-1R) is $299, not $399 as you said. The MDR-1R can be found on Amazon for about $175, so your pricing is off. Other than that, great review!

    Audio Technica always forget how a human head is shaped.
    I hate it when the headband is like that. :S
    I've tried so many times to bend the Urbanite's headband, but these headphones are freaking indestructible and unbendable :S

    Hi Tyll-or-whoever-will-be-kind-enough-to-help-me-out!
    I own the NAD Viso HP50. They're my first "serious" headphone, and I absolutely adore them. However, recently I've been feeling the need for a sidegrade to something less warm to listen to medieval /Renaissance /baroque music.
    I would like something very easy to drive, that I could plug directly into an iPhone in a cinch, even if it's not ideal (my other source is a Fiio X5)
    I'm all over the place about whether I would like an open or sealed design or even IEMs (I've listened to Etymotics recently and I loved the sound signature in spite of the lack of soundstage, but they are too freakishly uncomfortable for me). Some isolation would be nice because it would allow me to listen to music in bed without bothering my partner, but if an open design is really great I can just listen to it during the day.
    I'm not particularly hell-bent on a huge soundstage (just mentioning it because I know some people consider it a must for classical). My priorities are as much neutrality and as much detail as I can get for under 300 dollars.
    My current candidates are the Focal Spirit Professional (a bit over budget; a potential issue is that I'm a glasses wearer with a big head and big ears), the ATH-AD900X (I'd prefer a sealed design but it sounds like I might like them), the ATH-MSR7 if I can find them for a decent price where I live (no luck so far), and even the Rockit R-50 (so yeah, all over the place).
    Halp!

    • @QuartBernstein311
      @QuartBernstein311 Před 9 lety

      Audio is not about one beating the other, but of preference. M50 is V-Shaped, emphasizing the highs and lows. The MS7 emphasizes a more neutral signature, with some pronouncements.
      At this point, what are you wanting?

    • @awesomeg126
      @awesomeg126 Před 9 lety

      I had beats and wasn't enjoying them at all. I'm new to high quality sounding headphones, so I just wanted to know what would be better for me. I was initially going to buy the ath m50x ( after all the hype on CZcams about them), but then saw the msr7 and thought to my self
      Maybe the msr7 are a better buy for me. What do you think?

    When you pronounce the "s" sounds, it sounds really weird (like compression artefacts). You used noise reduction in Adobe Audition, eh? :D
