+Bernardo Oliveira Same here. I've already bought some stuff based on his reviews, and really thinking about buying this one now.
+Bernardo Oliveira I'm still able to control myself, STILL...
+Bernardo Oliveira i don't have money and still i bought many headhones/amps/speakers because of his reviews
+Chi Ho Ko you need to lose control...
+KrishKrusher I'm on the verge of getting these, but the DT770 pro is the same price right now and I can't choose...

I wondering how a basement smells in Japan
@@TexasCorgiGun Probably like used bag from ATH MSR7s
Thanks Zeos! Been waiting to hear your thoughts about these cans! I'll be getting them soon!
Hey Z, great review - have you ever considered a follow-up review of the updated ATH-MSR7B version?
I have the MSR7b for 2 years and I just stopped looking for others. Absolutely happy.
I just picked up a pair of m40x's and love them but also want to try something else would you say these or the Sony mdr-1a is a valid upgrade? for the same price
A couple of years ago I bought the ath-pro700 mark 2 based on your review of them. Today I'm going to receive the ATH-MSR7s. Thank you Z Reviews for the awesome job you do.
Thanks, bro! Mine are shipped and are expected to be delivered tomorrow.
Audio Technica makes a ton of decent closed headphones. They just don't get as much attention as the m_0x series...
Based on hours of your videos, I have chosen these and I thank you. They are amazing!
Castiel Arc7 ikr I want them to pair with the Fiio q1 mark 2 what do you think
Bought these a while ago and only saw this review just now. So glad that this review reinforces my opinions on them
Thank you for your review. As always, it gave me an excellent impression of what to expect. I wish that you would have made a sound demo with these... you do very good sound demos.
The rig was down for these few cans.
Thank you for your reply. The sound demo you did of the ATH40x is
excellent.
In your opinion, is the sound of these MSR7 better for outside recording (good isolation, fidelity to the actual sounds being recorded - humans talking, singing, birds chirping, ambiance) and for listening to music on a plane or train ? Which would you choose for the quality and comfort: the modified ATH40x or the modified MSR7 ? And thank you very much for your guidance.
Is it worth getting the Fiio A5 to drive these? Looking for a little more bass.
The new MSR7b just went on shelves last month and I picked up a pair this week. Great improvements in comfort and overall sounds more polished. Somehow they manage to be kind of darker but clearer than the MSR7s IMO, not sure how that happens though. Hopefully will see a review on the new pair soon!
I can't seem to find them in Europe, are they actually released?
Great review! Blunt and to the point great job!!
When I saw how easy it was to roll the pads I ordered a pair immediately. Watching your reviews is expensive Zeos!
I plugged the cord into my ear they sound better than Orpheus
Oh they look like the Sony mdr -1r
+Mr.FPS7y Yep, Kinda
XD
I just picked up a set of these in like new condition at Goodwill thrift store today for $6.95! What a great find!
nice
Damn im jelly
Bought these headphone and love them! thanks for the review!
I've had these for 3 years, and they were worth every penny. They've always squeaked like this one, thanks to plastic on plastic, but even for someone that's easily irritated by that sort of shit - It was never a factor. They can get a little fatiguing because of the strong clamp and I'm finally replacing the pads. I was super impressed with what Yaxi did to my Porta Pros so I'm giving them a shot.
Thanks Z, you rock.
Used these as my programming cans at work for about 2 years. Driven by the Audioquest Dragonfly (1.2 I think).
They are nice and I do like them overall, but I have always had 2 issues with them, one minor and one major. The minor one is that they have a treble spike at exactly the wrong place (for me). Can't remember exactly but it's somewhere around 8-10 kHz. I'm using an EQ to tame the spike somewhat, which mostly solves the issue. That's why I classify it as minor. Should mention I'm extremely sensitive to certain treble frequencies so most people probably won't have this issue. The HD650's I use at home are a godsend for this reason.
The major issue however, is one of comfort. I have a pretty big head and even with the headband extended all they way, the cups are just barely able to reach far enough to cover the bottom of my ear. Not the end of the world really, but what's worse is the headband padding! The padding on the headband is either too thin or not distributed properly or both, because I always get a serious hotspot right on the top of my head after less than an hour of wearing them.
That hotspot has been driving me nuts and it's the main reason I'm now replacing the MSR7 with the Beyerdynamic Custom Studio, which I bought about a week ago. They also have a treble spike, but it's not as harsh and it's in a better place, so I don't have nearly as big an issue with it. The comfort is also miles better! No hotpots at all after 4 hours of wearing them, which is exactly what I'm looking for.
Will probably sell the MSR7 soon.
Can also add that I disagree with Zeos about the Sennheiser Momentums. I own both the original Momentum Over-ear and the Momentum 2's (which pretty much sound the same but have larger pads) and I strongly prefer the Momentums over the MSR7! The Momentums are some of the nicest sounding cans I have ever heard! :D
@@koerel The msr7s sound a lot nicer than the momentums to me. Much more detailed are much better imaging. Momentums are a bit more bassy but if I want big bass there are many other options.
Definitely agree. Everyone always talks about Beyer's harsh treble peak, but the MSR7s peak is downright piercing at some points.
Hey Zeos quick question. Have you gotten your hands on a pair of the new MSR7B? If not I’d be willing to send you mine as soon as mine come in for review?
How do they compare to dt 770 pro?
Hey ;
Thank you for your review and i would like to request sound demo for Audio Technica ATH-MSR7.
Please do a sound demo of this MSR7 if you can! It would be really interesting to compare them to other headphones in your sound demo videos
I'm so happy I have them now and can confirm what he said is true to the bone.
Having had them for over a year now, I fucking love them especially with the sheepskin HM5 pads
How comfortable are they?
MSR7 or the COP+ ??
How do these compare to the Vmoda m100's and the Fostex mk3's?
Thanks for the reply. I ordered the p s b m4u1's in the meantime.
Have you reviewed the ATH-A1000z's?
Do you listen to any IEMs? I mean I can tell you're the type of audiophile who wholeheartedly enjoys open-back headphones over anything, but it'd be nice to see you review some high end IEMs and see what you think. A lot of audiophiles get shocked by the performance of high end IEMs, after being disappointed with MOST earphones and simply dismiss them altogether. I have the ie80's from Sennheiser and they are pretty damn good. I'm going for the ie800 soon
He does, look up "IEM" on his channel.
"we'll do it live" do you work in television? great review!
He is quoting Bill o' reilly.
Good review. Picked up the MSR7 here in Japan along with the HM5 earpads...made quite a difference with comfort in my opinion. I prefer these over my Momentum 2 wired cans (great sound but for me the earcups are too small).
I found the stock earcups too shallow for my pointy-out ears so I cut out some foam ovals to sit inside the earpads between the foam and the cloth back. Now extremely comfortable and a bit more soundstage! Also just for reference, the stock earpads are protein leather.
Years late to the party but I have the MSR7 for 3 years now and the pad was flaking off last year, tried many aftermarket option like HM5 and ZMF but nothing sounds right. So last month I decided to give Yaxi MSR7 a go since it's about the same price as the stock pads which by the way needs to be shipped from Japan after inquiry I made via e-mail, no regret though as the Yaxi pads are just stellar! Way better quality than the original and didn't destroy the bass like HM5 and some others, heck it even add more bass than the stock ones did whilst maintaining the same razor edge detail retrieval and sparkly high end. Definitely recommend those pads for anyone looking for stock replacement/upgrade
Thanks! I was convinced no aftermarket pair was worth it. I'll get these soon!
Are these a good upgrade from the M50Xs? I like the M50Xs however I'm looking for a headphones with less sibilance, more detail and balanced bass.
Check out the ath-m60x. he just made a video saying he loves them and i just bought a pair, but haven't tried them yet.
what are your thoughts on the m-60x after you listened to them?
Trapy thank you for reminding me about this comment. I don't really like the m60x, however they do kinda match up with what the first commenter wants. The highs aren't as sharp as the m40x that I have, so in turn less sibilance. The bass is definitely more powerful than the m40x but I don't feel it to be overpowering. The only thing is that I don't find them to be super detailed. All the sounds feel too crowded to me and I can't pick out each individual sound very well. This might be because I'm used to the very wide soundstage and space of my m40x with hm5 pads. I think enigma should try them, they just aren't right for me.
Mitchell Harden thank you very much for answering that quickly! I myself own a pair of the m50s and I’m looking for basically the same thing as Engima and I have to say that they do sound very compelling to me! But now I would be very intrested in knowing how the m50s and m40s compare in detail and in soundstage? (Altough i feel like the soundstage of the m50s is quite narrow and really in your face)
Trapy I can't tell you how the stock m40x sound, I haven't had the original pads on in so long. However with the hm5 pads, the m40x blow the m50x out if the water with soundstage. Nothing feels like it's coming from inside your head. They sound like you are sitting in the middle of a band. The bass response on the m40x is lacking though the thump of kick drums and the bass guitar isn't as present, but because of the soundstage they dont get lost behind any other instrument or sound. I know a few people that don't like my m40x because of the soundstage. They like the "in your face" nature of the m60x. I just feel like I'm losing parts of the music with the m60x when the mids are filling my head and demanding to be heard.
just got these man these things are crazy good
Hi, Could you please recommend a nice Hard-case for these headphones, since the bag comes with it doesn't provide enough protection while travelling?
Can you plz make a sound demo for the MSR7? Nice reviews btw!
How exactly would that work? How can he post a file of how these sound, when you are going to listen to it through some other headphones? All you will hear is the way your headphones sound, right? Unless you mean something completely different by "Sound Demo".
If you weren't aware, he does sound demos of the headphone he reviews. He puts the headphones through a special microphone, and you would hear it through different headphones. The sound that is outputed is _slightly_ different from the actual sound of the headphones, but it gives you a good idea of what the sound is like.
Also, YES PLEASE DO A SOUND DEMO OF THE MSR7 PLEASE.
ATH-MSR7 or Sony MDR-1A
I do not have the possibility to listen both versions to compare. MSR7 or MX40s ??? help!!!
I'm going to use to listen to music
Would you recommend these for listening to rap and rock music? I've been looking for a pair with all the features these have and I think these would be perfect for me
Would these be worthy of my extra money, I'm upgrading for the m40x? Great video, liked and subbed!
Hunter Ross yes, they are one step above. I've heard the M40x and I own a pair of msr7 and can attest. to get the most out of them I would get a proper DAC and amp
is there a big difference in sound compared to the m40x?
will my Galaxy s8 have enough to power these?
Abdel Yes they should easily, you might get a slightly better experience using an amp though.
I own a pair of m40x and just tried msr7 at a store, msr7 is truly superb
If you have a lot of budget, msr7 is definitely worth
If you're like me who is on a super low budget, sticking with m40x should be fine
#GiveUsTheSoundDemo
Hey Z.
msr7 or dt770(lets say 250ohms)???
Thanks
Would you consider these an upgrade to the M70x or an alternative to the M70x?
lol, licking the leather, stick the jack in your ear see what happens.
your a character.
good review btw, I'm buying them as we speak
How would you compare these to the Sony MDR-1a's? I'm looking for something with good soundstage, portable, and decent to great bass while retaining other frequencies. Also considering the Status audio CB-1s. Thanks.
I have both of them, the MDR-1A is a bit more comfortable to wear so it is suitable for longer listening periods. The sound signatures are different, while I prefer the MSR7 for it's clarity and detail retrieval my wife prefers the MDR-1A for the warmer/fuller sound and much more bass. So if you're looking for bass I think the MDR-1A is the answer. But always try to listen before you buy anything.
How much more bass? Unfortunately i only have the SHP9500's to compare to..open vs closed, i know...the SHPs sounds fantastic.. but lacking in bass..i NEED more bass, but good punchy bass. I cannot stand sibilance! Great bass great mids.. CLEAR highs is what im after. MD1a's.. or MSR7's..maybe something else?.. much have detachable cable.. as i game with vmoda boom.
This is a subjective matter. For me it has more bass than my ears can take at medium level so I could only listened to them at low volume without EQ-ing. I needed to cut around 6db at 100hz to make them more flatter sounding. They are very good for rock and EDM but be aware that the bass overpowers the mids a bit so the mids sound more recessed than ATH. The high are ok, they are not sibilant and overall they have a fun sound. MSR7 has a flatter sound in comparison and they are more analytical, I prefer them since I listen mostly to acoustic music.
Hello, congratulations for your channel, some doubts, to enjoy the music that auricular recommend me for its sound, the msr7, the classic spirit of focal, or sony mdr1a? What types of spnito have?
Hey, an el-cheapo Bravo tube amp. Got a review coming up?
Bought them, the sound quality is just INSANE. I came from steelseries siberia v1 so I expected to be blown away by these and I am. They are BRIGHT so it may not be comfortable at medium-high volumes. You can put these at 0.01% volume and all the details are there, they sound good at any volume. I tried CS:GO and they do a good job but not great, soundstage is smaller than steelseries but I can pinpoint easier with these somehow because the soundstage is extremely accurate. I feel a little claustrophobic when playing cs:go because the only sound I hear is the in-game sound (it is hard to explain). With these I can hear my heart beating at ending of a song and it's annoying. They DO NOT isolate the noise from around like it should, it is like 20% from the sound and the noise changes tonality, nothing more. The pressure from the cups is not such a big problem but for me, the headband just push my top of the head and it is very annoying. My ears gets warm after 15-20 minutes and I need to put them back on after 30 seconds or so. Other than that, the sound is just as he says: CRISTALINE-PURE, in the sterile region but enjoyable on many tracks/genres, for acoustic genre it just scare me. They don't offer enjoyment on bad recording or music radio shows. The bass is very flat, not very tight and not for bassheads. You just hear the notes very easily and it goes very low. Just 1 day, the bass might improve. Female vocals are just INSANELY NATURAL, everything on this is very natural.
what kind of music is the best to see the quality of real good headphones i mean what kind of music should i listen to and where from cause i know youtube is shit for music quality
COMPLETELY AGREE on the female vocals. They sound so amazingly natural, the first time I had these on I felt like the singer was singing in my ear. Jesus Christ. Same with Disturbed rock songs. Natural, amazing, flat. Perfect I'd say but nothing's perfect.
You should try the A900X, also a great closed-back headphone by Audio-Technica.
+TBlasku Gimme
My colleague would be pissed off if I stole his A900X.
+Z Reviews I've had mine forever, if you want to grab it from me for a weekend to shoot some stuff lemme know
+Z Reviews I thought you had a pair already XD
+TBlasku they have the A900Z now
just saying :P
+Z Review, thanks for the review, any chance we can get a sound demo? or am i just not finding it?
+Dumitru Daniel It was before the new one when the old had problems. No sound demo unless I get another pair to try.
Will be waiting your review on Bravo V2 and also saw an AKG K99 there. Hope somebody sends you an M50x to review and maybe compare audio difference with original ear pads and HM5.
Please someone send him Creative Aurvana Live's
how do they compare to ad900x?
Well ... completely different?
Open Vs Closed is never a good comparison.
which is good for gaming?
Both are good. Which do you want to game in? The open-ness of the 900 would be my pick.
+Z Reviews and what abt 1000x?
But do they have the planar sound xD
Just bought them. They are GREAT
Now that these are below 200 on Amazon, how do they compare with other headphones in that price range, like the hp151?
Kaiki best girl
Um
I don't mean to sound mean or anything but I think this's the original link
They're not a import
www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00PEU9CFA/ref=mp_s_a_1_sc_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1471142602&sr=8-1-spell&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=audio+TecNICA+MSR7
They were months ago.
I recently purchased mine, and I feel that the highs are slightly recessed. That might just be me, as these are my first set of decent headphones coming from exclusively iems (RHA ma750). How does the sound change as they get broken in?
Do the HM5 pads ruin sound quality for these because of the added padding? (I've read online and a lot of people straight up recommend to never use HM5 on these)
The leather in my earpads/headpand basically disintegrated because of how acidic my sweat is so I wanted to buy something stronger.
try out the m70x!
OMG THESE OR 1A IDK WHAT TO PICK
do I want more bass or do I want more accuracy? Do I want a more chill can or do I want one with a little less bass more highs and a larger soundstage?
so how does sending headphones in to you work? do you keep them or do you mail them back? I might be getting the audiotechnica dsr9bt when they release and would like to hear your thoughts on them.
Just searched this out of curiosity. Funny that you mention the boom pro, I have been using these with the boom pro since around when you made this video. Like the sound, I prefer mid forward headphones compared to what a lot of people like. The pleather on the headband and the ear cups disintegrated at some point, replaced/bought covers like a year ago. Definitely can confirm, small sound stage with accurate positioning. The M50 that I had before had a much wider soundstage but with much less accurate positioning. (I know you hate them)
So Z', what do you believe is the best thing to do to turn this in to a "budget" gaming headset or rather what you will recommend. Now I know this video is a bit dated now and there are probably better options now but I currently own some Msr7's and have been using it straight out of the box and I'm currently going to upgrade the ear cups/muffins to those that you recommend (thank you for the find mines were building smell from all the nights I would discover music and study sessions). So my question is would the v moda boom be a better replacement for the in line mic it came with. And before I buy those cups are there better in comfort and sound since the cups do make a difference.
Nice Kiss Shot Acerola Orion Heart Under Blade wallpaper!!! Awesome headphones btw, they kill everything in that price range.
I had these headphones for over 1 year. Very good sounding.
I found these for $150. I couldnt be more happy with any purchase this year. Kudos to audio technica.
Great headphones. Can you present its sound demo??
I need some tips - I have the dt 770s. I enjoy the sound, but don't find them that comfortable as they press under the ear lobes. I listen to music and play games 50/50. I like a balanced sounds - all - bass, mids, treble. Due to the nature of my apartment I need a closed pair with a decent soundstage (as decent as closed can be).
What can you recommend me? Comfort being by far the most important thing, then soundstage, then bass (just has to be good enough - dt 770 is good enough), then everything else. I read that the m50x and m70x have great comfort and even great sound but limited soundstage.
Thoughts?
Max budget 250-300 euros.
Thanks :)
from your description, these seem similar in sound signature to the SHP9500 or the HD 600 with a tad more treble (obviously in a closed form). Is that accurate?
Which one is better when it come to Music sound and Movie sound? Thank you
Audio Technica ATH-MSR7 vs Sony MDR-1ABT
I was so close to splurging a little extra on these because they sounded so good in the shops, but I settled on the M40X instead, I don't regret getting them, but part of me still wishes I got these instead
Z which headphone u prefer meze 99 classics or ath msr7, considering detailes and so on?
I've watched several of your reviews and must say that you know your stuff.
I'm off to pick up a pair of these right now for $130.
Is it crazy to think about putting some of these headphones' pads on the M40x's?
MDR-1A can I put any 3 party cable in to them. Also the same thing for the ATH-MSR7
I'm currently trying to choose between these and the Vmoda m100. I would say about 50% of my music is bassy and about 50% is more acoustic. My only concern with the m100 is that the bass will be too over powering for the acoustics and my concern with the msr7 is that the bass might be slightly lacking for some of the mare bassy music. I haven't been able to listen to either of these can so I would appreciate input from anyone who has heard one or both of these cans.
Similarity and differences with the msr7 and momentum 2.0s?
boss Z, have you done a sound demo on these MSR7?
can you try out the MX70's or the ATH-A700X?
It would be great if you demo these or more headphones in the future, to include a quick track of the source material, so we can hear how the headphones effect the sound compared to the headphones or speakers we are using to listen with.
It was either this, the v-moda crossfade or the sennheiser urbanite for my friend.. and in the end we went with this. Really a great headphone for gaming, music and detachable cable with the v-moda boompro for free at a good discount.
plz plz plz do a review of the audio technica m20x and m30x. will help alot of entry level headphone Jockeys
these or meze99?
Oh Z one more question during the revew of the Fiio Q1 MK2 you mentioned that FIIO is coming out with an bluetooth version of their DAC / AMP how is that going to work. Would the DAC / AMP link to the music source and bluetooth headphones
If you had to choose between these and the X2 which would you have ? knowing one is open and the other closed makes it even tougher choice thought Id ask
+chris wood Gaming and the freedom to wear an open set, I'd go X2. If you NEED closed you can get the MSR7 knowing they are some of the best.
Are the HM5 pads softer than the stock pads? Im wondering because I wear glasses
I would love to see a review for the M40X. Many people say that they are better than M50X and they are cheaper, but I would like to hear your opinion on them.
Thanks!
Hey Zeos I was wondering would the NVX/Brainwavz ear pads fit a Sennheiser HD280 Pro? The HD280's are comfortable already but those ear pads sound like they would be amazing to use
I have a little question about. Just got the MSR7 in my own hands but I noticed a pretty big deference is trebbel killers. The right one does and feels a lot thinner than the left one. Is that norma?l I can imagine but just wanted to be sure
msr7 or hd 598? Wich is better?
Is there a difference in sound between the MSR7 and the MSR7NC i have? Did i made a mistake buying the NC version?
Can anybody who owns these tell me how well they isolate?
I really want these for Dj'ing but I am not quite sure how well they cut out outside volume. The more the better.
Did anyone find some pads that they like better for these headphones? Link to the HM5 pads in this video?
How comfortable is the headband on the top of the head? The Momentum 2's are digging into my scalpt leaving indentations and outright causing pain (note... not much hair). How are these?
Hey Z! These or the Fidelio's X2? For gaming and overall music on PC. Ty in advance!
X2. Love these for closed and mobile use.. But the X2 can't be beat.
how do these compare to the philips shp9500's. i know one is closed and one is open but which one would you rather have.
Would you recommend another cable instead of the ones that come in the box? If so, which?
I do, This [amzn.to/2cdFnPp]
Do I sell my m40x and get this? Or wait and save more for something more expensive like denon d7200?
