The year the Eurovision was won by a Spanish song called La La La. This song should have won it. However Cliff Richard real name Harry Webb wasn't British, he was born in India. Congratulations was written by Irishman Phil Coulter.

    1 - Better quality song,
    2 - better performed entry,
3 - this song is more loved in and outside the fandom,
4 - everyone remembers this song more,
5 - cliff is much more loved & respected,
6 - cliff is an absolute superstar with a career 99% artists could only dream of.
7 - The voting for us was rigged by Franco who bribed the jury.
For all them reasons Spain didn’t win, the UK did. FACT

      1 is an opinion
      2 also, it's opinion
3 ok that's right but its doesn't relevant to the contest voting
      4 same with 3
5 yes but it's song contest not artists contest
      6 same with 5
7 it's turned out to be false

Just give Spain the win. You know how many victories the UK has? 5. You know how many Spain has? 2. And one of them was a 4 way tie meaning Spain HASNT ever been number one since this contest. Not to even mention that nowadays Spain is the country that has gone the longest without a win

@calihartley2010 documentary film shown on Spanish television in 2008 claimed that Caudillo Franco had had the competition fixed to ensure a victory for Spain, which would boost the country's image abroad. Massiel was outraged by the allegations, insisting that she won because her song was better, and that Franco would have not been able to buy any votes for her in the first place. She also blamed the allegations on competition among Spanish TV channels.José María Íñigo, the person who had made the original claims in the documentary, later retracted them, saying "If there had been such a manipulation, it would have been for a different artist who had been closer to the regime."

Joe Dyson but why Had I never heard of this in the USA until a British friend told me about it a few days ago? I think it’s too bad. I mean we had the Beatles, the Rolling Stones and all that, but we were minimally or never introduced to singers like Cliff. I think he had like one song released over here in the late 1970s. I feel the same way about Helen Shapiro as well. Two great British singers that most people here in the USA know little or nothing about.
