Getting a bit tired about massive comedians whinging about cancel culture. Like dude you've got a netflix special you ain't cancelled.
But you can’t deny that cancel culture has been a very real thing that has ruined innocent people’s lives. I think the issue is that people like Chris Rock and Dave Chapelle and Ricky Gervais are using their platform to speak up for those people or to make nonsensical commentary of how silly it is to point out the absurdity of America’s political landscape.
@@qthestruggler2715 Cancel culture isnt that real of a thing though. You have to understand what you're saying before you make claims like that. Andrew Tate for example, one of the most hated people right now, still isn't canceled. The same way that people have a right to say whatever they want, people who disagree have a right to boycott their work and in some cases even deplatform them (this is extremely rare). I would like for you to name 5 people that have been unfairly canceled. There just aren't very many, there are people who are too late to prove their innocence, and it sucks that they get fucked like that but most of the time, thats not the case.
Its almost impossible to get canceled, you have to remember that every platform is a business, if youtube wants to get rid of you because youre fucking with their business, why shouldnt they be allowed to? If you're against that, youre not only against free speech but youre also against having an open market. Im not saying you cant be against those concepts but you have to understand that you are.
Free speech goes both ways.
@@Nao-pj7mc Free speech does go both ways, but it's still shitty that a publication can write a hitpiece and then people will believe it even if most of it is exagerated. Even if you're vindicated a couple of years later, it still took the momentum out of your career trajectory.

It seemed like the general conscensus online was that it was very good, but I'm glad I'm not the only one who tought it was dated and overall not funny.

I feel like most of the reviews are people, who never watched any comedy special before and just don't have any point of reference. They just watched it cause of the slap. For me it is no one of his best, but got a couple of laughs outta me, cheers for your take on it
It was so painful to watch and I didn't even get to him talking about the slap. Compared to Bert Kreischer's recent release it was night and day when it comes to pure enjoyment.

Drive has been my favorite film for so long, I respect you took the L on your original opinion.
It's a really good film but I'm still it wouldn't be loved as much by people (including myself) if it weren't for the godlike soundtrack by Cliff Martinez, it's absurdly good.

9:30 Dave Chappelle Chappelle might be on the same level as Carlin in terms of being magnetic, but Carlin always seemed to look at the discursive amalgamation and laugh at it from a distance, whereas Chappelle positions himself within it, which I didn't find appealing. That is why I disliked the Closer and this new Chris Rock special.
10:13 Gold - to add on the special was mostly about himself. Also he didn't say anything new we weren't joking about already. No one is as good as Carlin today.

Watched it in a sneak preview back then and thought it's boring and shit. I couldn't believe that the film launched Ryan Goslings career and I've never changed my mind.
I thought "why is this supposed to be a good movie, he just keeps a straight face 100% of the time and is violent. It's just blatantly obvious".
Thought I was the only person who just physically cannot handle certain cringe, like if there are other people there I just need to leave but can usually get through it by myself. Mostly applies to movies for some reason. Keep going man.

Lets goo. I just watched the special last week and thought it was overall not that funny besides the last 10-15 minutes when he was shitting on will and jada. Even then his shitting on W&J felt a little tame, maybe thats cuz i’m a bit jaded on the topic.
The whole special felt like a 50y/o man was telling me his politics at the bar. it just felt like getting getting railled by someones politics for an hour.
I feel like modern Dave Chapelle has ruined some comedians for me haha. Hes definently on a different level.
I wanna add after watching some more of your video But the whole special felt like 50 minutes of being reeled along waiting for chris rock talk about the slap, but he just keeps going on about old dated topics. It felt like being clickbaited by a youtube video and the thumbnail doesn't happen til the 10 minute mark of the video and the previous 9 minutes was rubbish filler to make adsense.
If you compare any comedian to Dave.. you're gonna have a bad time.

Got me feeling some kinda way bring up Patrice O'Neal. Watched his special like 5 times in a row recently it's a shame few still hold the candle to it. Hopefully some of the new lads coming through can get there, might just be me but stand up has been a bit weak for a while now.
One dude slapping another is not an unforgivable sin. That's silly. Will's first apology was weak as fuck but his later one seemed more genuine and cognizant of what he did and why his actions (however angry he was) were unacceptable. My real concern was always Chris Rock, who has been known to battle crippling depression. I hope he's in a good mental space.

I don't know why, but for some reason most standup is the least comedic things I watch. I find it more hilarious to watch reality of real people being unintentionally funny. I appreciate the skill and art of standup, like great timing, but honestly there's just a lot of women talking about sex to try to be controversial and men complaining about something being politically correct.

Are you familiar with Redbar? One of his main motifs is being critical of the current state of comedy/comedians for all its nonsense (while also being funnier than them imo). very similar to some of the points you make in this. He is a bit of an acquired taste and not for everyone but I think you might appreciate it. Hes been doing his show for 20 years, he got into podcasts very early and even ran a comedy club in Chicago at one point. Theres a lot of clips on here on CZcams but he actually hosts all of his own content and streams on his own website.
