Charlamagne tha God and Andrew Schulz react to Comedian Chris Rock's highly anticipated special 'Selective Outrage' which streamed live on Netflix and allowed the legendary comic to express his reaction to the infamous 2022 Oscars slap incident with Will Smith.
The Brilliant Idiots is a comedy podcast from the Loud Speakers Network featuring Charlamagne tha God, host of Power 105.1’s radio show, The Breakfast Club. Andrew Schulz is a world touring stand up comedian known for his work with MTV and
independently successful comedy projects, “4:4:1 - a comedy experience by Andrew Schulz” as well as “52 weeks of stand up.”
The Brilliant Idiots is a podcast just as unpredictable as its hosts. From power 105's hit radio show "The Breakfast Club" comes Charlamagne tha God and stand up comedy's rulebreaker, Andrew Schulz. From music, comedy, relationships, to pop culture, politics and current events, everything is on the table for analysis. But take what you hear with a grain of salt, because while their perspectives are often brilliant, they're liable to be idiotic too.

It’s simple: Rock did it live because The Oscars was live. It’s poetic justice
Bruh exactly! Only comment I've seen making this point
Lmao the way you people can just make up things on the internet with no rhyme or reason is honestly a talent
@@rmanS2C when someone thinks they are the smart one in conversation lol
And even fucking up the joke part, Will assaulted a man live and went back to his seat and Did not leave even when allegedly was asked to, so even if Chris mubbled, whispered his joke, he was on his right to do so, you could hear the year long anger he had in him and he let it all out.
And did it in Baltimore where Jada is from 😂😂😂😂
I'm glad he did it live. It was risky. He was full of passion and rage. It worked. He pulled it off.
The slap. Revenge. Live. It was the perfect storm and Chris didn't disappoint.
& the getting the joke wrong a little made for great love tv, it proved that it was live lol
Andrew is hating because Chris Rock didn’t have to go for any low hanging fruit or be purposefully controversial in his special like Andrew and his writers need to be.
@@TruthfullySpeaking500I mean maybe but most people only watched the will smith part. From somebody like Chris rock a comedy legend it just wasn't up to par.
My favorite part was the story how Chris made sure his daughter was kicked outta school for the consequence of her actions... Hugh lesson we all have to teach our kids... Brilliant and great parenting Chris Rock!!
🧡
Joey Self• that part. And he also showed how well his daughter is now doing as an adult on her own.
Yeah, but really expensive lessons. The lawyers' fee and the new private school's tuition
Hugh???
That wasn't the way
Chris Rock was brilliant! He refused to comment on the slap and turned it into a comedic masterpiece. Absolutely, Genius!
And will should be lucky that's all he did. Rock could have sued and got Will arrested.
Lol definitely wasn’t a masterpiece because the jokes were tame and we’ve already heard better jokes. Plus he messed up the delivery of a final joke and had one of the worst most hypocritical mic drop of all time
Genius
Genius, this word is used to many times. Too casual m
40 million worth of revenge!
Boss move!
I watched 6 times and I am impressed that he went live. I know he flubbed the emancipation/concussion line and I totally understand it. I knew he was going to go in on the "couple, " and I thought he had every right to express his pain then the genius in him stated the obvious "SHE HURT HIM WAY MORE THAN HE HURT ME!"
If it’s obvious then it’s not really “genius” lmao especially since other people, comedians and regular people on social media have already said that. I guess everyone’s a genius then haha
@@MisterFoxx people are easily entertained
I watched it 2 hour AFTER it went live and as I was watching it all I said to my wife was “I think Chris did this live thing on purpose cause of all the shit he saying” lt was too fucking real. It being live made it something else. No edit… no censorship…just the whole bang on all those issues. And wether you hated it or love it like I did…it didn’t matter cause it happened live, just like the slap happened
I actually like that you saw him stumble on that joke. It's relatable. They should put out the live, not some edited version. We get to see how incredibly well he handled it and to see that comedians are human like the rest of us and fuck up from time to time. He stumbled and recovered pretty much right away. It was a thing of beauty to see. Why would you want to keep that from the world? Perceived perfection isn't always better.
You said that so, so well. I respected his stumble and come back.
Completly agree!
I like seeing it live and seeing the imperfections, but for the history archives it should be corrected, and also I'm like Charlemagne in that when it's a special it should be the best output. I actually look forward to watching it again edited.
I thought it was smooth af when he corrected himself on that joke even though he admitted he fucked it up.
Yep
I caught that also. Right you are.
Definitely saved it.
@@bettybaby63 yup!
Even gave it an authenthic real feeling to it.. he was emotionell, it was heavy for him. He a genius
Chris still feels the hurt. The tears that filled his eyes in the end ....heartbreaking. I hope he finds peace. It's not that easy to overcome a traumatic situation.
He's a millionaire I'm sure he'll be ok
LMMFAO 😂😂😂
😂😂😂 you never been slapped
He is not a victim.his life is a miracle he will be fine
He will never recover from the humiliation
The special was good but maaaaan, that was light on Will. Chris could've gone WAY harder if he wanted. That smack will live in perpetuity forever! He's got a family too. Chris is allowed to go in on Will for the rest of his life if he wants to...
He chose not to because now he’s the better man who took the high road. They’re still going to criticize him for what he did say, like all that stuff about Jada cheating, but that’s all stuff they’ve admitted to. If you willingly put stuff on the internet or in the public sphere, it’s all fair game. Especially if it’s something you chose to do. The GI Jane was a softball joke too. I wasn’t a fan because it was easy. Surface level stuff. Beyond that, if Will Smith was some random black West Philly guy, he’d be in prison right now. I don’t know why it was up to Chris Rock to press charges. The police have a video of a crime. They have just cause. They could have waited until after the show and arrested Will. That’s Hollywood privilege.
What more can he say? Lol
@@manucr9183 right? Hahaha
I agree with that. Will embarrassed him in front of MILLIONS of people and his family. They can stop with that sensitive ish. Chris can say whatever he has to say about Will forever. He didn't put his hands on him.
What else can he say??
Tbh, when he trashed his joke, he saved it and it was a raw emotional feel..
Yeah Netflix have now edited it. Out
Nah it was messy
@@hugolazy9330 sure it wasn’t clean, but it still delivered.. Most comedians would fold and start the joke over awkwardly.. Chris rolled with it and owned it..
Shulz and all the critics can’t compete with people being just plain happy to hear anything from Rock
Chris Rock Netflix Special, was a Grandslam! He came out swinging fact's. It was a powerful revenge 👍
Why is there a child in an adult discussion? She added absolutely nothing.
Thank you Charlamagne!! People nowadays do not let themselves absorb entertainment anymore. Its all about "How do I feel about this? What did they mean by this? Is this offensive?" Stop! How can comedy survive if people want to overanalyze or nitpick every single, minute thing? Just let yourself be in the moment and enjoy it like a normal human being.
But the show really wasn't that funny..
@Redman Johnson, it's a matter of opinion, but it was very funny by me, irrespective of the will Smith joke. I thought it was a master piece especially the way he segwayed into every joke
Thank you 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
The fact he flubbed the joke made it better for me, it wasn’t perfect and that’s human and in today’s culture of filters and photoshop, live was refreshing. Loved it.
Andrew’s comment about he wishing the special wasn’t live is actually so dumb. It was so exciting to watched it live for me
Andrew isn't even close to Chris Rock level. He couldn't see the perspective only a legend will see
@@mr.j410 ....lol stop it that special was okay but it wasn't great
@@redmanjohnson4616 when did I say it was great?....
Point it put for me plz
He sounds like someone who is salty when someone has an amazing idea and it wasn’t them who came up with it instead… im a fan of Schultz but he sounds mad salty lol
Lets just say , He got even on the slap! his timing was on point and he opened the door for others to give opinions and he got paid 40 mil a year later.
No, the live was raw, unplugged and real.. with his emotions, the pain..he was vulnerable and funny and then ended strong. It should not be edited. It was a therapeutic moment for him. Much respect, Chris.
Chris Rock special was good and funny asf 🤣🤣 I watched it 3x
5 here
@@mtio2807 me too, in the same day also 😂
Watching it now🙀
I noticed the mixup with Emancipation and concussion. I just went with it. Love Chris Rock.
So true, shows how affected he was
The special was a master piece in so many ways , but Chris was talking about calling him after the whole entanglement situation, not after the infamous slap
Exactly!
I think Andrew’s feeling frustrated around the talk of other comedy specials and should put that competitive energy into working on his next special. 🔥
I got that impression too but I hope I'm wrong.
andrew jealous
I was thinking exactly the same bit jealous
@@seven7ful Yep.
ya he defiantly comes off jealous with chris in particular
PEOPLE ARE TOO FREAKING SENSITIVE. COMEDIANS BEEN DOING THIS FOR YEARS.
WORD!!!
I beg to differ. Chris Rock always had a different take on topical issues. That’s why he is my fav comedian. He sees things in a different way. He is brilliant.
I’m not sure what these so-called comedy experts think they know because doing it live made everybody watch and have to talk about it at the same time. Brilliant move Chris rock!
So-called?
Schulz is a comedian with his own specials out and in case you missed it, your take on it is pretty much exactly what Charlemagne said...
Doing it live was genius, he still released the edited version.
Chris said he called him after the entanglement was made public to show support but he didn't respond, not after the Oscars'.
I know these fools didn't get that. If they were paying attention. They wouldn't look foolish now..
@@dolphinsrr yeah, like I don't how they didn't understand that.
He is such a pro that when he messed up the ONE joke, it was no panic. He simply started over.
I think him and Dave had a competition 😂😂😂 doing a comedy special not only live but in their hometown is ANOTHER type of Pressure lol..anything could've happened that night
Well said, Charlamagne. The whole concert was great. So much of what he joked about was true and hilarious. The Will Smith part was icing on the cake.
It was fire 🔥🔥🔥 truth telling at its best. He sure did hold up that mirror incl on himself n it was great. Charlemagne made a great point. People already projecting their own meaning on stuff. Sign ur not too bright. Instead of allowing the art to speak for itself. Chris hit it out of the park!
It was brave to go live, raw, unpolished. Great show. Great payday.
Chris Rock is a wordsmith, an artist, a comedian. I don't think he used the word bitch literally. It was a metaphor for emasculation. It's what everyone was thinking about the embarrassing Red Table Talk incident. With imagination, we can read between the lines!
Calling Jada a bitch was definitely not a metaphor though. He was just upset he flubbed his punchline before that.
@@MisterFoxx Agreed. I meant calling Will Smith one.
I agree . He didn’t really mean they called him a bitch but the way all these outlets talked about what he did it was basically describing what a bitch boy would do.
He literally missed one word and y’all all over it huh 😂
Lululemon yoga pant joke was hilarious - $20 leggings I’m in 🤣🧡
Oh be quiet . It was great live !! ❤ Chris Rock is a legend .
Being reviewed by non legends 😂
THIS
Schultz might make it there in future. Might. 😄
He hit the nail RIGHT on the head, people are mad because of the mirror put in front of us telling us we are ALL hypocrites and we all practice "selective outrage"...The fact that Rock messed up the joke shows (at least to me) that he's a real human being NOT a robot...
This is the realist shit my bro. Couldnt have put it better myself.
Honestly, Rock’s stand up style is way before my time. It isn’t for me. That being said, Rock didn’t even say all that much about Will. And didn’t even go as hard as I thought he’d go.
If Rock is before your time and not your style, then what do you mean he didn't go as hard as you thought? You're not even familiar with him 🙃
@@HarmlessComment I am familiar with comedians and how BRUTAL they are with roasting though. I guess you’re right, Rock just doesn’t have that dog in him to actually go hard on Will. I’ve seen clips of his work before and for whatever reason I thought this would be different. Guess that’s my fault 🤷🏽♂️
Chris rock was a better actor than comedian imo but still love him tho
And yet the bleeding hearts are all up in a roar that he called that bald b!tttch a B!TTTCH
@@HarmlessComment 😂 that's right
It was pretty chill not his best work but also a lot better than most. I think my problem with this special is mostly that we've seen these topics done better by different comedians by this point. There wasn't anything new nor new groundbreaking approach to the execution of these jokes but all in all because it was Chris Rock there were still good moments.
The only good part were Megan Markle and will smith stuff. The Lululemon stuff was funny but it had even more potential. I was Franky disappointed, I heard that the set was so good but it was mediocre at best. Morril, Normand and Gillis all had better specials than this, even Jew by Ari felt better than this.
Exactly it wasn't really that funny to me...
That ish was 🔥 not just the will smith part of it and it was just a small part of the show anyway
Chris Rock.. Brilliant! Love it!

Man I've seen so many people on instagram comments saying Chris Rock isn't funny, "I've never liked him or thought he was funny" it's INSANE! Lmfao someone said "I've hated him ever since I saw him when New Jack City came out." Which is just not true at all 😂 Selective Outrage was the perfect title for this special and it was hilarious.
These Karen's are literally LYING about never liking him lmao go look at the comments on entertainment tonight instagram post about him joking about Megan Markle lol there's a bunch saying he "caters to white people" and "only attacks black women and puts them down" I couldn't stop laughing reading them. He's been trashing white people for 30 years and it's always hilarious 😂it's comedy anybody can get it 🤣
andrew going “Mmmmmm”
into the mix like charlemagne preaching some ancient truth or something 😂😂😂
Chris Rock is a freaking genious. Love him
The slap was live so the special had...TO,BE LIVE!!
7:45 when you accidentally start arguing the other person's point
Yo andrew Chris is a goat.
He can add as much pressure as he wants. When your that good that great, you got to challenge yourself. Something you will never understand.
Im white and I agree I love Chris rock, My favorite movie he did was Beverley hills ninja with the late great Chris Farley
Lmfao
Not literally called him a B, but insinuating he was a B. Duh🙄 It’s a joke!
Don't argue in front of White people also refers to not showing any sense of disharmony in front of them. Also, Chris said he reached out to Will during the August stuff, not after the slap.
I'm watching you because of the call out. I'm also enjoying the blog and I'm one of your new subscribers.
0:47 about projecting is FACTS 💯
Schulz needs to not be hating. He gets so envious or jealous and instead should just be investing that energy into his own work or specials.
Naw that shit was trash Chris Rock old asf
Natural competitor type reaction tho. If he didn’t get salty he wouldn’t be good at what he does
Yeah Schulz definitely hating here
Chris said he tried calling Will during the Red Table interview when Jada was talking about her "Entanglement".
3:40 is that Alex from the Flagrant podcast?
Andrew looks like he doesn't want to be there to talk about it like he's probably tired of talking about it
Whole special was great.
Even though he messed up the joke it’s dismissed. It was still funny. His human side showed-nobody is perfect He gave raw emotion live. I hope Will let him get his lick back live
It's like watching a fight live... it's definitely different.
One of the best stand up I’ve seen most comedians go up there and just parts of the show are funny some jokes you don’t get Chris was good from start to finish!!
When Chris Rock said, everyone called him a Bi***" I don't believe he meant literally used that word, but everyone did speak on that subject and looked at Will Smith being fully disrespected by his wife on red table talk and laughed, which equates to that word without saying it.
Also when Chris said he called him and Will didn't pick up, I'm sure he meant before the slap, regarding the crying meme time when he was getting mocked etc.
Will’s consequences for slapping him on live TV were that he got to sit back down, win an Oscar and enjoy his evening and get a few okay jokes a full year after 😂
chris also got 40 mill
@@wsd00 he would’ve got that anyway though
We all got to see will crazy scream and cry

wow what an honest and ensightful comedy special. I learned a lot, we all did. CHRIS ROCKS
I know Chris went in on both Will and Jada and I don’t know if it’s just me, but I feel he went in harder on Jada.
You’re right. The next slap will come from Jada.
Yea he did. He was 50/50 on will
@@dolphinsrr yea all he really said about will was mentioning the entanglement and calling the slap some bitch ass shit.

Cant believe Charlamange got Andrew hating on Chris.. the special was amazing
This will live forever on the internet...what perfect revenge.
Loved it !!!!!!! It was soooooo good !!! You know Will & Jada watched it too !
Comedians getting personal about themselves definitely has been a thing. Richard Pryor’s most notable special was just that! Kevin’s “Laugh At My Pain”. Eddie would talk about his family a lot but idk if it was all too personal.
The show was 3 o'clock in the schoolyard. Of course everyone was gonna tune in.
I’m rich, but I identify as poor…my pronoun is Broke 🧡🤣. Great special Chris.
Ooh I've been waiting to see Charlemagne's reaction to Chris and what he said about the part about him and everybody calling will a b!tch, Charlemagne, the breakfast club, the drink Champs, 🤣. I remember when it first happened, on the breakfast club Charlemagne said, "Chris didn't deserve that."
I totally forgot about the Will till it came up at the end..I love the beauty of story telling comedy..amazing stand up.
the first minute, CTG talks about projecting feelings, hes been doing that for years lol
Love Chris! I’m so elated he got his B slap back.
It was time for Chris Rock to shine and get his due respect and to show the world that he is the better person for how he handled this whole very stressful situation. I salute you Chris.
Chris said he tried to call Will after the “entanglement” interview to give him his condolences and got no answer-he hasn’t taken will’s call since the Oscars.
Chris said he called Will after the Red Table talk and Will didn't answer.
Do we have the numbers yet?? I wanna know the watch count!
Chris was SUPERB ❤
I assumed it was done live simply because he got smacked live. 🤷🏾♂️
That's how I felt eye for an eye
Wayan stand up was so much better everything was about the slap 🤣🤣🤣🤣
“Selective outrage” very true.
Andrew taking the noble high road when it comes to judging the specials or writing of other comedians is almost believable. Except, I still specifically remember all his cheap shots at Dave Chappelle, his specials, writing, and jokes after more than one special since his return. So you're all high and noble until the GOAT is being mentioned and "some" can't help but scramble for clout. From as far away from you as Egypt 🇪🇬, I can still see right through your thin act Shulz.. 👀
All the way from the motherland bisch 😂
I agree with Schultz, I believe more people tuned in for the revenge more than it being live.
Also, Chris called after the Red table talk not the slap.
When he said he reached out to Will, Chris was clearly talking about before the slap when Jayda was putting a business on a red table top
The entire special was BRILLIANT!!!
just a reminder for the guys over at brilliant idiots that the empty seat next to charla is reserved for Wax. the fans have been vocal on all platforms instagram, reddit & the comments that Nyla simone is bland, unfunny & a mood killer. Wax deserves the seat.

Nothing he can ever say. Will erase me seeing him getting SLAPPED on international Tv. That’s Forever 😂
Exactly, thats what Jim Carrey said. If it was him, he would have sued Will for 250 mill.
It did make me realize who Will Smith really is, that ruined Will forever.

Stand-up should be live. They usually do that at shows anyway
They fixed the "Concussion" joke in the edit
I thought the way he ended the special might have been super clever. He closed and then Kanye played over the credits.
After his bit about Michael Jackson vs. R Kelly and the the title being Selective Outrage, that was a pretty cool open-ended challenge to the audience, I thought.
Whether it offended you or not, the challenge is to check your other beliefs to see if you feel the opposite about someone else in a similar situation.
The MJ vs R Kelly bit was pretty weak. R Kelly - I get it; but MJ wasn't a good example for that bit.
