Best feature of this channel is the getting right into the song. No messing around. Perfect.
That is a great feature, no doubt, but the BEST feature IMO is Lex!
@@brettkenschaft4239 she is pretty adorable. No argument.
Amen
Hate when reaction videos have a 3 minute introđ. So yea this channel is refreshing
You nailed it. Plus I love their demeanor good times!
My friend RG moved here to the States right before this song came out. He was from the Philippines and couldnât speak English. He fell in love with this song and studied it a lot. He figured if he could understand the lyrics to this song he would grasp English much quicker. 20 plus years later I know every damn word by heart because I heard him perform it so often. Great memories.
Thatâs amazing! It was definitely a nostalgic trip for me as well.
I still get this song stuck in my head all the time after like 20 years, the chickity China part
Lol, I do too.
Their song "The Old Apartment" reveals additional levels of "crazy" in their storytelling. Most of their songs are kind of like that. Their song "Jane" is probably my favorite.
You want crazy BL? Be My Yoko Ono is up there.
Aw Jane. One of my favs too!
Jane is kinda boring to me but Be My Yoko Ono is great. Grade 9 is good too and of course Brian Wilson but the live version is best
'What a Good Boy' is my fave.
How is the neighbor upstairs?
"If I had a Million Dollars" is my favorite song of theirs. It's hilarious.
But not a real green dress, That's cruel
"All dem crazy elephant bones" get me everytime.
"or maybe a Garfunkel"
I've always wanted a monKEY!
All the fancy dijon ketchups.
This is a song you have to listen to multiple times to really get everything and appreciate it. Barenaked ladies do put a bit of humor in many of their songs.
I'd even say a lot of humour. They're a very irreverent sorta band (see: their name), even though they often deal with heavy topics and have some straight-up serious and haunting songs (eg. "Lovers in a Dangerous Time", which is technically a Bruce Cockburn cover but BNL does it very well).
A lot of humor. If I had a million dollars is a great example (not a real green dress, thatâs cruel) XD
I worked in radio & once had the privilege of being a backup singer onstage with Barenaked Ladies in front of 15,000 people during a holiday festival concert. I was sharing a mike with them singing a couple of Christmas carols. One of the most fun things I've ever done! They are all super nice guys.
My dad had bragging rights in his friend group for the longest after learning how to say the fast part, between this and R.E.M.'s "it's the end of the world as we know it" was honestly impressive
In 99 I woke up every morning to the radio playing If I Had A Million Dollars. Told the wife Iâd like to see that band. She bought tickets for my 39th birthday. Went to the show in Cincy, went to see them in Columbus and Indy on the same tour within a few weeks. Weâre going to see them for the 19th and 20th time this summer, Cincy and Dayton. Weâve grown old with BNL. One thing I noticed leaving every BNL concertâŠ.. the people are always smiling and happy.
Lex is always such a mood hahah đ love her energy
They're a fun little band! From this same album, listen to "Brian Wilson" which is about the genius behind many of the Beach Boys' hits, and "Be My Yoko Ono" which has one of the funniest imitations of Yoko's "slinging" I've ever heard. (Oh, and you know they did the theme song for "The Big Bang Theory", right?)
BNL also did the theme song for Big Bang Theory
Don't let this song fool you. These guys are top notch musicians and song writers. You owe it to yourselves to delve a little deeper into their catalog. As always...good stuff, you two! âđ
Totally underrated. They put out a lot of good music.
To be clear, there are two singers on this track: Steven Page, and Ed Robertson.
Ed's the one doing the super fast talking rap bits. Steven's the one with the better singing voice.
For more Barenaked Ladies, I recommend that you check out 'If I Had A Million Dollars' and 'Brian Wilson'.
"Better singing voice"???? Rapping is not singing... And if you can hit the notes, it's all subjective after that.
Which one got busted twice for cocaine possession?...back around 2000.
huh.. never realised that
@@brainscott8198 Steven page
Love the reaction! Other great BNL songs are: Pinch Me, Lovers In a Dangerous Time, and If I Had A Million Dollars (their first hit in Canada).
lol, its an anatomy of a fight. Been trying to keep up with this since the 90s. its such a 90s song. Pinch Me was their other real big hit.
They referenced Birchmount Stadium which is attached to Birchmount collegiate High School located in Scarborough Toronto, when the âLadiesâ (and I) all grew up. All the regional intercollegiate track and field meets were held there, at least back in the day !
They say "Birchmount stadium home of the Robbie" in that line of the Lyrics. The Robbie is a huge international youth charity tournament held at Birchmount stadium in the east end of Toronto (Scarborough actually), I think they use both the high school and the nearby Variety Village complex during the tournament too.
Danforth Ave and Birchmount Rd. my old stomping grounds use rent the Ice at Birchmount Arena on Friday and Saturday nights from 12 am till 2am for shinny games back in the late 80s
@@steveorn5244 The Robbie is a soccer tournament
Scar Borough. Scar Borough. - Some live track.
@@jethro1963 Yup, Ooops,,,,,, I meant to say huge international youth charity soccer tournament, I kinda missed the word soccer, that kinda changes the whole meaning of what I said.
The last lyrics " Birchmount Stadium home of the Robbie" The Robbie Tournament is a huge youth soccer tournament in Toronto every summer . Birchmount Stadium is a small football/soccer field in the Scarbourough area of Toronto where they're from . Edit: oh ya and Swiss Chalet is a popular rotisserie chicken restaurant across Canada.
wow i never even noticed that i played the robbie
Have a drumstick and your brain starts tickin
Chickity China the Chinese chicken
Actually, if you have a drumstick your brain *stops* ticking.
Itâs not meticulous. Itâs familiar. When youâve been in a relationship long enough and had enough arguments, you can recognise the motions youâll go through.
Somebody does something. Thereâs some spite. Thereâs the silent treatment. Thereâs the realisation I screwed up. Thereâs the couple of days to build up the courage to apologise.
They are baboons they donât understand
Every time I hear this song it makes me crave Swiss Chalet...
I miss their ribs and 1/4 chicken since I am now in the Midwest USA , Also miss Harvey's as well and Mr. Sub
I have revisited this video several times since watching it. I had totally forgotten about it. I think it is one of the most inventive songs of all time.
Canada's own :) The entire first full length album Gordon is phenomenal (this song came after that album but still a good time). They do the song for the Big Bang Theory tv show.
Gordon is my fave album of all time. Sooo good.
Oh, I hear that now...
And now I have Enid stuck in my head just from thinking about Gordon... (laughing)
@@rickwelch8464 I'm a Patron on another channel, and I'd like to introduce the reactor to BNL. Along with, "Brian Wilson", and, "If I Had A Million Dollars", I want to sponsor, "You Could Be My Yoko Ono", but I'm wondering if that song is offensive/racist in 2022--specifically the part when they imitate her singing. What do you think?
@@Cosmo-Kramer I suppose that could be considered in bad taste. Hadn't thought of it
The shoutout at the end Birchmount Stadium home of the Robbie is in reference to the local park/community center in Scarborough, a suburb of Toronto. The Robbie was an international youth charitable soccer tournament
I always end up singing âChickity China the Chinese chickenâ every time I feed my chickens.
The more you listen to the song, the easier it is to keep up.
At the end of the song "Birchmount Stadium Home Of The Robbie"... was a reference to a sign that was attached for decades to the track and field stadium (Birchmount Stadium lol) of their high school, Birchmount Park C.I. .. The same high school attended by The Weeknd
Ohhh đšđŠđšđŠđšđŠđšđŠđšđŠđšđŠ
BNL iconic... lidtenbtobtge album Gordon. It's a Canadian classic.
We open for them in the early bar days. Great guys!
Also, sang the theme song for the Big Bang Theory
"It's all been done" is my favorite song of theirs.
Pretty straightforward song! Just about getting in argument with your girlfriend, and a little break for watching tv for some reason.
First of all thank you for this and all of the other reactions and songs that you both do. It is very much appreciated. What I got out of this song is that itâs just a fun catchy song, donât think too much about what it actually means and just enjoy it and smile.
Thanks for doing this one! This band has an endless playlist of great upbeat songs. I'm not sure there's ever been a "funner" band to enjoy live ;O) late 90's of BNL were TRULY the GOLDEN years. Their 1997 New Year's Eve Concert at the Palace in Auburn Hills was absolutely THE BEST! One of the best concerts I've ever been too. It's was like one big massive party. They were famous for their "Fan only" cruise vacations too! A friend of mine, who was even a bigger fan, and her ex-husband went on one of those. It was even a tradition for everyone to de-robe and take a nude photo together from a distant camera shot. Lol It was a total blast according to them!
Pinch Me by them is a great song
Agreed!!
I like their song, âEnidâ. They also did an amazing cover of âLovers in a Dangerous Timeâ.
I used to work with Enid, she is a real person whom the band met and liked her name
Their cover of Bruce Cockburn's "Lovers in a Dangerous Time" is freaking brilliant. Enid's a great tune too.
I would say theirbremske of Lovers In a Dangerous Time is superior to the original.
This was such an iconic song when I was in college. Still jam to this one..and fumble through a lot of the lyrics. =) React to "It's All Been Done" if you can!
Lex was jamming to that song and Brad just looked confused lol I loved it awesome video guys. đ
The live version of their song Brian Wilson off their Rock Sceptical live album first popularized this band in the US. It's definitely worth reacting to!!
Rock Spectacle is a fantastic album. That version of "Brian Wilson" is amazing.
In this episode of Brad & Lex, 2 lines in and we receive an astonished yelp from Lex, complete with a bouncy "shifty shoulder drummer bop", lyrical quivers,(shake face), "syllable hands", and the "pout mouth". Brad verbalizes his iffyness on the content with insinuations of stalkerish ways exhibited by Ed Robertson while Lex sees a brighter side labeling the vibe "sunny"and continues with a variety of free willed "bops" including "mic mouth", "the toll entrance" and "Ricky Bobby hands". Brad confirms the coolness of the sound after his light "sway" workout.
Nailed it. LOL
Brad seems like a total downer lol, Lex is a beam of light in a dark world!
Lots of Canada in this song that us Americans might not catch.
I have to tell you, your reviews are delightful! So engaging and fun! đ
This band has real interesting lyrics. Many of their songs are upbeat but the lyrics can be quite the opposite. I seen this band several times and they are very entertaining live. This song is not the best reference for their music style. You should react to "Its all been done" or "Brian Wilson" or "Light up my room" .
The Barenaked Ladies is a perfect erxample of the "College Rock" genre (or sub genre).
They also did the Intro for the Theme on the Big Bang Theory.
Canadians Band stream ! we have so many good bands ! Bernaked Ladies are a staple in Canada, as Rush, Tragically Hip, Billy Talent, Our Lady Peace, etc.
The Hip rocks!
Brad crackin' me up on this one! "This guys keeping track way too closely!" LOL
These guys are great writers and a boat load of fun live!!!đđâđ
I still love that line âI have a tendency to wear my mind on my sleeve, I have a history of taking off my shirtâ which basically is saying heâs losing his mind
I've heard this song 500 times and never realized the Birchmount stadium reference? I won a gold in the city championship at that stadium when I was 11. One of the highlights of my life.
Their live album is one of my favorites, for different reasons than all of my other favs. So good.
Interesting tidbit - The Barenaked Ladies used to busk and play the bar scene in Toronto. in 1991, they got a banned by the then (law and order) mayor from playing the city's new year's eve show because of the controversial band name. The "banning" of course put them on everyone's radar and with great songs, the rest is history.
It's All Been Done is another one I love from these guys. đ
Yall are so funny..love watching your reactions!! â€ïžđ
You guys are hilarious! My favorite channel!
These guys put on an amazing concert!
This is about the Birchmont Stadium (near Toronto which is not surprising since BNL are from Canada). They took down the sign and then put it back up after this song came out:
"The original sign was removed during stadium renovations a number of years ago, and had not been replaced until this month.
Entering its 53rd year this June and July, The Robbie is the worldâs largest youth soccer tournament for charity. Since its inception, the tournament has raised funds for Cystic Fibrosis Canada.
The tournament is named after Robbie Wimbs, who had cystic fibrosis and was the inspiration for holding the first tourney back in 1967 which featured eight teams and raised just over $47. In the decades since, The Robbie has raised almost $2 million for CF Canada."
"If I had a million dollars" is a must. Another awesome Canadian band! The last thing they said was about a stadium in their hometown Scarborough Ontario Canada called Birchmount stadium. Home of the Robbie. They always throw some random fun thing in their songs.
The Robbie is a Baseball Tournament
@@kengaroo67 soccer
Last line in the song (Birch mount stadium home of the Robby.....) its was one of the biggest soccer tournament's for kids in North America
LOVE this song, it was used in the movie American Pie ! So fun! đ„đ
It was also used in the movie 10 Things I Hate About You
@@rickyallen7176 Really? I didn't realise that! Great song to cheer you up and get you moving! If this or Teenage Dirtbag comes on I'm singing the WHOLE thing... (badly) đ€Ł

I always laugh at the "keep my mind on my sleeve, I have a history of loosing my shirt"
How is it even possible to be alive over the last 25 years and not know every word of this song? For real.
Barenaked Ladies have a ton of word play, puns, and references, etc in their lyrics. You should definitely listen to pinch me.
I absolutely adore you two!!! xxx
I love how my bro is so analytical and lady just be vibing.
Finally learned the last line to this one, and glad of it...
The last words of the song are, "Birchmount Stadium, home of the Robbie." This refers to an annual soccer tournament held for charity at Birchmount Stadium in Scarborough, Ontario. Steven Page and Ed Robertson have said that these are are the hardest words to say in the song.
The Robbie (officially The Robbie International Soccer Tournament), began in 1967 when some area soccer fans started a boys' tournament to raise money for 3-year-old Robbie Wimbs, who had Cystic Fibrosis. The tournament grew, and later became a benefit for Muscular Dystrophy research as well.
jaja these guys had top hits in the late '90s. Slipped my mind
Birchmount Stadium home of the âRobbieâ. Famous soccer tournament in Toronto. Iâve played in it.
This band was huge in the 90s lol. Every kid was singing their hits in grade school
Hearing brad explain the whole keeping track of all the bad things sounded lile rain man... Hahahahaha love it
Those Sailor Moon girls really do be making you think some things. Great reaction!
This band has a ton of great songs, for a bit of trivia they also did the theme song to Big Bang
This song has some bars that really go unappreciated.
Lex I love how you enjoy every song. Brad is so focused and you're having fun
Birchmount Park Collegiate Institute (my high school) had a huge stadium which had a sign that stated it was "home of the Robbie"
One of my favorite things about the reactions by Brad and Lex is watching Lex. She gives off so much joy. đ
Memorized this song for karaoke night and man is it fun when you bust out all the words đ
Loved this song growing up!
It's a song that makes me smile. Always liked it.
I think this was the song that took off in the USA for this band (from Toronto, Canada) because it was played on some popular TV show. This is also the band that does the theme to the Big Bang Theory TV show btw... They are a funny band, at least that's how they started. I think they got a little bit more serious as times went by, but still occasionally would drop funny lyrics. Many are very Canadian too.
"Who can keep up with this song"
"Vanilla is the finest of the flavours"
you got it you got it XD
One of my top five concerts ever, going back to about '78...
It's a song about the weird stubbornness that couples have about fights, and admitting that they said or did something wrong.
These guys are great!!!!
Brad: "Who can keep up with this song?"
Me: Check out Weird Al's 'Jerry Springer.' đ
Love this song, and how it lays out the way couples fight and make up. And enjoy the process. :)
**Immediately makes plans to bump this song past funerals this weekend**
I'll just tell 'em Lex said it's cool.
Love BNL!!!! I think this song was one of their biggest hits, but they have a lot of songs. "Who Needs Sleep" is still one of my favorites.
Fun fact: this song was number 1 for exactly one week....đ€đđ
Great Toronto group. This was a good memory and back in the day I could actually sing along to most of it. It was such a fun challenge :)
This is a great song and so much fun!
You guys are so cool. Keep it up!
This is one of those songs that you need to listen to often, and back in the day I did. lol
I never realized till today that this song is actually pretty good.
Great video as always! U guys ever thought about getting into late 80s/ early 90s rnb and new jack swing? I'd start with dial my heart by the boys
they mentioned Sailor Moon, which made this song an instant hit for me back in the day.
couldnt help but like it when this came out
I think he is taking about their passionate relationship and she understanding him., maybe. Catchy song. Loved it when it came out.
They sing the theme song for Big Bang Theory.
You're killing it
Luv you Lex!
The Robbie is an international youth soccer tournament held every year in Toronto area.
