There’s at least one other Bare Naked Ladies song that you know - Big Bang Theory theme song! Thanks for reacting to this classic Canadian group!
A group of very talented musicians that got discovered as street performers in Toronto by an alternative radio station. This song just makes people happy. They have many great songs - some quirky, some heavy. Check out their cover of Lovers in a Dangerous Time or their song Brian Wilson (inspired by the the genius leader of the Beach Boys)
John Merrick, incidentally, was the Elephant Man. When Michael Jackson was still alive there was a persistent rumor (not true) that he was in possession of Merrick's skeletal remains
The idiot tried to buy them. Another idiot wanted the Toilet that Elvis died on.
They were the coolest -- they could be the tightest band on the planet or the funniest or both at the same time!!!
Give The Old Apartment by them a listen, too! Totally different, but another evocative tune
I saw them in Atlanta At the Amphitheater during a thunderstorm. I won tickets to the concert so when I told my mom I was going to Atlanta to see a concert, she asked who I was going to see. I said "Oh Moom, it's going to be great! I'm going to see Bare Naked Ladies!" Should have seen the look on her face! They opened for Alanis Morisette. Her set was fantastic but she had the volume at 11 so my ears rang for two weeks afterward. The opener opener was a guitarist from LA. He said that on the tour, he got sick of all the back bacon and poutine. Thanks for the reaction, I love this band
I hear back in the day when they played this live (before the one of the leads left the band) this song would go on for 20 years with all the improv they did. It has such a great "hangin out with your friends" energy that I adore.
There is a good live version on Rock Spectacle from 1997 or so. It is pretty funny. I saw them live a couple times and it was always different. czcams.com/video/GqxJQHG1IEg/video.htmlsi=aJ2zN2juBzZz8VQg
I recommend seeing more of their hit singles! This band rocks!
I absolutely love this song and your reaction was hilarious!
The wife and I will be seeing BNL again in October. It will be our 24th BNL show. And every time we leave the venue we smile, like you did during your reaction. The BNL crowds have grayed over the years but I’ve noticed when we leave, everybody is happy. I consider that the highest accomplishment a band could attain.
A chesterfield is a brand of sofa in Canada.
Okay, here: K-Cars were a series of cars by Dodge/Plymouth/Chrysler that are credited with bringing them back from a bankrupcy crisis. "John Merrick's remains." Google "The Elephant Man" and you'll find info about a movie and about the real person the movie was based on. His name was John Merrick, and at some point his remains were considered to be a collector's item of fairly high value. Great song and Great reaction to it, by the way. This was fun.
And one of the K-cars was a Reliant - thus “a nice reliant automobile”
Apparently Michael Jackson loved the movie 'The Elephant Man'. So much so he travelled to London to view the bones. He offered $1m for them but somebody outbid him and donated them back to the same Royal London Hospital that had put them up for sale. Michael Jackson later said he didn't offer to buy them but it's widely believed he was lying. (When he had tried to buy them he got a lot of bad press).
I've never heard this before, but I really liked it. Thumbs up to the song and to Angela.
BNL is a fun quirky group - with fun quirky songs. And one of Canada's very best :). It's All Been Done is one of my favourites - worth checking out. Cheers from Canada! :)
When I fall,What a good boy and Jane are 3 of my favorites by these guys..You should check em out you might like them as well
spot on comments., its an innocent song written like a boy in grade school talking to a girl. you nailed it, is "innocent" ....
One Week, Enid, The Old Apartment are all real good. Lovers in Dangerous Time is a fantastic Bruce Cockburn cover song as well. Deep dive territory dear Angela.
War On Drugs and Break Your Heart are their best songs.
You should try this comedy/novelty song,
*BOB & DOUG MCKENZIE:
"Take Off"
With a very special guest singer
*The McKenzie Brothers from the Canadian sketch comedy show, SCTV, Second City - TV
They're so much fun! 🙂
You gotta love BNL for their humour . Great reaction.
Glad you GOT IT!
Thank for sharing...love you love it. ❤️-J
Loved your reaction! - RIGHT on the money. Sweet and innocent, yet touching with "I'd buy your love"
The original geek rock band! I love these guys. Unfortunately, Steven Page (the tenor singer who sings second) is no longer with the band. But, I still love their stuff.
They also wrote and sang the theme song for the sitcom The Big Bang Theory.
My absolute favorite song (tied with One Week) is It's All Been Done.
Page’s solo work is amazing!
Very catchy ,clever and amusing and all set to a good tune with some good instrumentation-Colin Ward
Love this group..so much so that our Quiz team is called The Barenaked Ladies..yes we are a group of women but have added a few men in now but kept the name of course..love you to review more of their songs..
Music from Canada rocks
The green dress line is just a play on the real fur coat being cruel as well
funniest line in the song and so few ppl seem to get it first time thru
Your confusion about the K car being reliant refers to the Dodge Reliant K car which saved Dodge from bankruptcy along with their minivan.
The Dodge was the Aries. The Reliant was a Plymouth.
Such a unique song that is a perfect sing along and yes some of it is dated but no one cares! Brilliant lyrics and brilliant song idea
A fun catchy song with perfect harmonies!...but I like Canada's BNL mostly for "Jane" and Steven Page's unique voice!
BY THE BY THEY LIVE DOWN THE STREET FROM ME AND THEY GOT H WAYYY MORE THAN A MILL AND NO TREE HOUSE AND I STILL RENT ! BUT I STILL LISTEN AND DREAM ABOUT THAT SONG . ANYWAY)
The fur coat and the green dress play off each other as a joke ( The fur coat not being real makes sense... the green dress doesn't... silly joke!)
Silly is the word you're looking for. :)
A Canadian standard.
Could not play in BIGMRK RADIO (DALLAS) BUT Thanks review💯
You see the fun and smile you had. That’s the point
Hello Angela Try a couple of comedy songs by Ray Stevens. The streak which we did in high school and the Mississippi squirrel THANKS
Another great Canadian band is Jacksoul. Check out their hit Still Believe in Love - official video plays to the song and enhances the experience.
Hi Ms. D., I am going to try and help U out a little; a K-Car is a series of Chrysler/Dodge/Plymouth cars.. They were Mid-sized cars.. ♠W.G.
1992 lot of good music came out a lot of good groups a lot of new groups. This is a very good reaction I love your reaction to this one because you're right it's a cute song but it's got a good beat to it and a good sound to it. I've always liked the Barenaked Ladies. But it's been so long since I've heard anybody mention them or heard their music unfortunately almost forgot them.
Just imagine if Gordon was the album that ushered in the new musical era instead of Nevermind…
I knew a guy who won a million dollars. He spent it on bare naked Ladies, wine, and song. He wasted the rest of it.
I’d suggest listening to this song when you’ve had a bad day.
The not buying the green dress cuz it’s cruel is going back to the not buying a real fur coat cuz it’s cruel
Good choice, Fun song, wasn't it? Fun group all around. I call it Canadian Honky Tonk. Reminds me of the Gear Daddies from this same time period.
So many people don’t realize these guys also sing the theme to Big Bang Theory
Big fan, but I forgot to tell you. NM USA reppin’ the 505! Anyway keep it up and..
Take it easy
If I had a million dollars, I'd secure at least $250,000 worth rent which would secure where I'm at forever and I'd open a pottery studio of my own and do lot's of travelling
If you actually know all the lyrics this is a fun one to do karaoke. Turn the screen so the whole audience can see the lyrics and sing along with you and your partner as you do the call-response.
another fun kareoke song is Adam Sandlers piece of shet car ... Adult setting of course ....
Pinch Me is so good
They never say I'd buy your love in the song. That graphic was wrong.
Check out the song
The old apartment
🇨🇦
I wonder if Americans understand the Kraft Dinner phrasing. I learned that Americans don't call it that.
Really great, fun song!! 😅
BNL is what happens when you form a rock band, practice really hard, get really good, and then forget to be a preening, posturing tough guy about everything. Turns out it’s really charming!
Have you listened to the new remake of 1 week by Postmodern Jukebox? Its good
Green dress for bridmaids
fun? i want kd (craft dinner) . IN MY TREE HOUSE IN MY GREEN DRESS , WITH MY MONKEY !
Dang, someone is a crooner. Maybe more than one?
There's a lot of stuff she wouldn't get, she's too young to appreciate everything that's going on😅
Angela, can you react Broken Vow by Lara Fabian and I Have You by Karen Carpenter...thank you.
Hello there Angela. I have an artist Women vocalist is very Avant-garde. She is a Pianist and she has a Right Octave vocal range. She does some really wild vocal stuff. She made an album in 1994 with the Bassist of Led Zeppelin John Paul Jones. The album is called "The Sporting Life" Please, please do a reaction for Diamanda Galás. I have 2 songs I must reccomend for you. The songs are "Skotoseme" and "Devil's Rodeo" ! Please check this singer out. She is not like anything you've heard before. Thank You. 🎶
You need to react to Pinch Me
Their early music was almost all fun and entertaining. I'm always disappointed they got more serious and lost both the harmonies and charm.
Google John Merrick.
i think it's from the perspective of a 5th grader
Never watched the Big Bang Theory they do the theme song
I have always loved the Kraft Dinners. Weʼd just eat more.
