This song is about the music industry, how it molds you into what they think and how they want you to look like for your fans, but PINK FLOYD did it their way. No 3 minute songs for the radio they liked long songs and wore what they wanted to wear. And you see where they are now, LEDGENS.

You NEED to listen to comfortably numb from the Pulse concert!! The best guitar solo by far… not to mention the laser show to go along with it. YOU WILL NOT BE SORRY. It’s a 10 minute masterpiece !

I like "Have a Cigar" from that album, it's probably the least popular track but I really like it. The guitar playing on the "outro" is just killer.

Agree, a fantastic track. The point is, even if it is the least popular track on the album it's still a 10 out of 10. The album is faultless perfection from start to finish.

the whole album is about how the Music Machine destroyed the founding member of Pink Floyd Syd Barrett

    • @Llydrwydd
      @Llydrwydd Před měsícem +2

I think Barrett's own fragile mental condition together with his use of LSD may have been more of a catalyst for his deterioration.

It's all about disillusionment with the music industry (The Machine). The whole album Wish You Were Here has a theme of absence, and Roger wrote this specifically about the disillusionment he felt becoming a famous rock star. The whole album is fire, you should check it out.

It's actually talking about the music industry. It's relevant to all corporate entities, but specifically it's about the music industry. The perspective of the person singing is from that corporate entity welcoming them `to the machine.` Telling them they understand where they came from and where they want to go. "We told you what to dream." Fame and fortune. It goes right into the next song "Have a Cigar," which is from the perspective of a music exec, within `the machine.` Although, it's relatable in other ways as well.

I bought this album when I was around 15 (1978), and it still gives me shivers even on a roasting hot day like today. When The Wall was released I felt like this track was a precursor to it as it deals with similar issues but in long form. I suggest you listen to Animals, which is very British in it's concerns, quite an angry album, especially Pigs (Three Different Ones). Going to have a Floyd session now, cheers.

A buddy of mine had 'Wish You Were Here' and 'Animals' and I had "Dark Side of the Moon' and another mutual friend had 'The Wall' .... all of them on 8-track. We wore those out.

Like a lot of Pink Floyd this song is not about one specific thing. It has many layers of allegory in an order to interpret a song like this one must possess critical thinking in a certain depth of cultural literacy. The machine can be any machine. But the machine is a reflection of what Society will expect you to do or believe unless you have a higher level of self-awareness.

I enjoyed your reaction, may I suggest that you check out their 1994 Pulse concert, you can enjoy the visuals with their music, Once you start down the Pink Floyd rabbit hole, there's no turning back and you will enjoy the journey, God Bless. PS: it's a sin to pause Pink Floyd music once it's started, please try not to sin so much K 😉 Oh yea, You need to be wearing headphones or ear buds when listening to Pink Floyd to get the full effect of their music

@user-jq5xe3wm8f I'm glad you enjoyed the video! We will make sure to do a whole bunch of pink floyd songs in the future, including the 1994 pulse concert. We'll also make sure to make a note on not pausing another pink floyd song since we don't like to sin, lol

I agree with everything you say until you get to the bit about headphones/earbuds. I'm fortunate enough to have been able to buy a Naim cd system with separate power and pre-amp, flat ribbon cables and Mission speakers, the stereo imaging is amazing and because I live rurally I can blast it out and bathe in the sound, which is precisely what I am doing now with Animals.

You didn't even listen to the end of the song.
    Floyd Council
    Pink Anderson
Two great Blues musicians which the band was named after.
The whole album is a concept album and it is about the former band member Syd Barrett. Yours earlier Sid had succumbed to mental decline due to overindulgence in LSD.
If you listen to a song out of order regardless if they're listened all at the same time it's like reading a chapter in the middle of a great novel. You have no context for anything prior and no conclusion.
A shell of Sids former self showed up at the recording studio in the recording this. None of the band members recognized him at first.
I have been a Pink Floyd fan since 1968. Pink Floyd didn't make many videos Echoes live at Pompeii is a must see. Anything off wish you were here came much later and does not accurately represent the music.
