      Yes, Al is an extremely good rapper. If you're familiar with the musical Hamilton You should check out his Hamilton Polka. He takes the fastest rap from the show, speeds it up, and does it in five part harmony. It's amazing.

      Not true. Yes, he’s known for his parodies, and yes, he typically includes a medley of popular tunes done as a polka (and a few other styles included as well), but a good bit of his material is original.

      Saw him last summer and he and the band played their non parody originals. What shocked me was that it was actually such good, solid music on its own. No need for the humor. I was really amazed.

      @@YaelleG Oh, there's humour. All his originals are funny too, just not specifically parodying another song. Most of them do parody the STYLE of a particular artist though, sometimes called a 'pastiche'. "Dog Eat Dog" is a Talking Heads pastiche. Mr. Popeil is the B-52s. Velvet Elvis is The Police, and Biggest Ball of Twine is Harry Chapin.

      Basically coolio’s producer gave the “ok” so weird Al’s team assumed that the producer covered all his bases, so it was kind of an apology because coolio thought they didn’t get permission, but it was more coolio’s team who messed up.

      He was single or had low key girlfriends for pretty much most of his life then got married about 23 years ago and had a daughter. They're still married, his daughter is about 20 now. He's never had a drug or alcohol issue, never had a relationship issue with another woman, he loved his parents and was close to them until they died, and he's been a vegetarian for like 30 years.
      Like Al once said, "I've never done drugs, I've never drank, I've never had to go to rehab, and I've never bought a hooker. So why does VH1 want to do a Behind the Music on me?"

    I always liked "Its All About The Pentiums". Al doesn't just do a parody for fun. He really DOES a song. He puts his whole soul into it, and becomes the protagonist. Never knew anyone to be so serious about being so funny. I've been a fan since "My Bologna" that he played on an accordion in his school bathroom to get the reverb effect.

    The crazy thing about this song is its sort of a way to measure how nerdy you are. The more references you recognize the more nerdy you are. Some are quite easy ones that most people get but then there are a few that require some serious big brain intelligence.

    Weird Al always asks permission to parody anyone, and a couple of artists love his work enough they were in concert and had to concentrate to make sure they sang their own song indtead of his.
    Donny Osmond as a backup dancer makes this more hilarious as he has always been the singer and he's nerding out as a dancer.

      The best part about that is that he has no obligation to do that. Parody laws are pretty loose, you don't even need the original artist's permission to make a parody of their work for profit. But he's such a kind person, he makes the effort anyway.

      Plenty of cases haven been won by artists claiming another artist ripped off their art because a few notes sound kinda the same.

    When Michael Jackson found out that Al wanted to do Eat it to parody beat it, he had his choreographer work with Al’s damn era and Al to get all the moves right and he had his team rebuild the beat it set for Al.

    "I Lost On Jeopardy" by Weird Al is legitimately one of the funniest things I have ever seen. Not sure if the humor translates to your generation, but for those that were around in the early to mid 80s, it hits hard.

    I've been listening to Weird Al for over 30 years. He is an insanely talented musician, especially when it comes to rap. He's also unofficial metric of success in the music industry; if he parodies one of your songs, you _know_ you've made it. Amish Paradise, Eat It, Fat, Tacky, Smells Like Nirvana, Word Crimes, Trapped In The Drive-Thru... There are so many great songs.

    Gentlemen, I submit for your consideration: 'Hardware Store' by Weird Al, it's one of his original songs and will absolutely blow your minds.
    On the subject of ERB: 'Vlad the Impaler vs Dracula', 'Clint Eastwood vs Bruce Lee', 'Muhammed Ali vs Michael Jordan', and 'Thor vs Zeus' are all excellent choices, but ERB really only has like two or three that AREN'T awesome.
    Edit: Nevermind, I'm stupid. Start with 'Moses vs Santa Claus', you won't be sorry.

    Something very cool about Weird Al was that he never required licensing to create his music. He would personally sell his pitch, ask for permission, and if they said no, he moved on. Eventually his name was so unbelievably widespread that a cover of his, would make originals pop-off generating original artists' revenue. It was a better time. Creativity is WHO the guy is.

"Chicken Pot Pie" got a no, for example, because "Live and Let Die"'s original artist was vegetarian-the irony being that Al had turned vegetarian by this time, too, but he just thought it was funny anyway, lol. Eminem strangely gave multiple yeses to album tracks but a no to "Couch Potato"'s video, for another example.

    If it hasn't been mentioned before, Weird Al absolutely slays with crazy fast bars (like Eminem "Rap God" or "Godzilla" fast) on his song "Hardware Store". There's no official music video for it to my knowledge but you'll want the lyric version anyways. Enjoy!

    I was listening to Weird Al when I was 12. And now y'all are saying you've known of him since you were younger.       @@thorkagemob1297 he got started in the 70s. There's a radio show "Dr. Demento" who played Al's first songs but yeah, by the early 80s, he had some fame and us kids (especially us nerdy kids) loved him.

      Genius in France is probably my favorite because I'm also a big Frank Zappa fan. It's supposedly so difficult that he and the band can't play it live.

      @@otherkorean It was 1979 when I heard "My Bologna" on the Dr. D show. I was a sophomore or junior in HS. Been a fan ever since. I was lucky enough to see him live at the Greek Theatre in Hollywood, with my son. It was the Poodle Hat tour in 2003. He and his band are all amazing musicians. I'm white and nerdy myself, so this is one of my very favorites of his.

    The first Weird Al song I heard was when I was a kid in the 80s: "Eat It" - a parody of Michael Jackson's "Beat It". After that there was a slew of songs. In the early 90s he spoke with Kurt Cobain on the phone about doing a parody of "Smells Like Teen Spirit". Cobain wondered if it was gonna be about food. Weird Al said something to the effect that it was gonna be about how no one knows the lyrics to your songs. Other artists have gone on record saying they were honored when approached by Weird Al because that is a sight that you're "made it" as an artist.

    Love that you guys watched some Al finally. Loved him as a kid. He was hilarious without ever being dirty or vulgar or anything. He lasted the test of time and after slightly falling off the radar, this one right here put him back on the map for good.

    I'd argue that what he does is harder than what most musicians do. He's not just bound by the beat- he's bound by the beat, The syllable count, total line count, beat changes, and more. He sticks to all of the patterns of the original songs, But completely changes the lyric scheme. That's damn near impossible, yet this dude has won like five Grammys doing it. It's absolutely incredible.

    I love all the little things going in this video. Key and Peele in the car, Seth Green with the action figures and the ass slap, Donny Osmand dancing. The red flares shaped like Pacman when he's dressed like Chamillionaire. Key and Peele locking the door despite being in a convertible. The vulcan sign at the end. And more I know I missed. I don't know who the guys were at the bowling alley or that flipped him off in the park or the guy who sold him the Star Wars VHS tape.
    I had to slow it down and stop it, but the questions on the Trivial Pursuit card are hysterical. They're obviously fake.

      Like so many things Weird Al puts in his videos, the door-locking joke actually works on two levels.
      Yes, it's a convertible, so locking the doors doesn't do anything. But locking the doors is the stereotypical reaction of middle-class and above white people when they find themselves in an African -American neighborhood. Reversing it that way just cranks up the funny.

    Weird Al was all over MTV (and the Canadian version, MuchMusic) in the 90's. My little brother was obsessed for a while. Most artists then and now consider it a big honour for Al to parody their music, because he just does it so well! Love Al.

    One of the funniest things about Weird Al is that no one really has beef with him. It could be because he never does a parody without permission (unless I'm wrong), it could be because he's so likable and friendly.
    But I'm convinced that it's partially because no one alive wants to be on the business end of his first ever diss track.

      "One More Minute" he wrote after a true break-up. Only sick love ballad he pointed at a real person. Good thing, too, because "Achy-Breaky Song" and "Smells Like Nirvana" were actually in good fun, but *wow* the disses come *hard!*

    The Star Wars Holiday special isn't a bootleg per se, just impossible to find to the point of having to have someone steal it if you want it.
    It was a TV special that was never released on VHS or DVD to the public.
    The only copy ever made on VHS was for and in the possession of Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia) and since she died is part of her estate.
    At the time of making this song and video, she was still alive, so if you wanted to take possession of the one genuine copy of the tape, which would be absolutely top tier nerd cred, you'd have to have someone go steal it from her home.
