Everyone hates on Vanilla Ice, but this track has passed the test of time. 32 years...
Yea as a meme lol. It's not respected. It's self aware. And a guilty pleasure lol
Classic
@@cjstats1514 Guilty pleasure indeed.
You could say that about every piece of recorded music...
Nothing like rolling through Compton, windows down, and Vanilla Ice turned up
A coworker of mine was in line for a ride at an amusement park during Covid. His 5 year old daughter started singing this because Vanilla Ice was in front of them. Vanilla ripped off his mask and sang it with her. Good man!

He's cool like that!
That's awesome. If I ever seen him I'm gonna come wit the go ninja go ninja go go go 😂
He’s a humble dude. Cool guy all around
@@Revelation22_5Yep he actually just reacted to this video on his channel, it's pretty great! I've heard from people who worked around him that he's a really cool dude.
He wrote this song when he was 16 and they filmed the video with hand held cameras (no video phones back then). This GREAT song has stood the test of time, with millions of copies sold worldwide. 😎👍
15 million . 500 lol crazy
Saw that video. It's crazy that the city sued them for using graffiti as a backdrop, shameless profiteering like.
Maybe 10 million in a day
I think the video budget was like $5,000.
@@Al_EllisandeWtf. How is that even possible
This song was not just HUGE IN AMERICA but WORDWIDE. It was ‘HUGE’ 🙌
100% correct!!
Only in America
Absolutely true, i went to his concert here in Lima,Peru in 1992, and we were a country destroyed by poverty and terrorism then, but it was something magical really!
@@Freyaaamirait was huge in the UK. I was 10 years old 😀
Man in Europe this was NO1 hit
Don't let anyone fool you from that generation. When this song came on, EVERYONE danced and spit the lyrics. Word!

And then they canceled him before it even a thing.
Lol 😆
They still play it

Just like 90% of CZcams reactors, I’m going to pretend I’ve never heard of this and simply ask.. who is this vanilla ice you speak of?
Vanilla Ice just did a reaction video on his channel and talked about the video and song. He said the album has sold over 500 million copies! This song never gets old
BS...No album has EVER sold even close to that much. His album has sold 15 million copies. Someone is lying...lmmfao
@@joanidavis2262 You're right. He's talking about streams.
There was a time in America when dancing was literally our past time. Every single weekend we danced in clubs for hours and hours. This song would get people LIT!
I am 41 years old and can't remember what happened last week but when this song comes on I can spit every word just like when I was a teen 🤣🤣 embarrasses the hell outta my kid, this one and Baby Got Back

Vanilla Ice had several 'Top 100' songs...not exactly a 'one hit wonder' - but 'Ice Ice Baby' is definitely what he's most known for. By the way...awesome video guys! 😊
This song aged much better than any of us thought it would, admit it
-_-
legit.
Real talk.
😂 it even aged better than me some days.
It wasnt the song that ever one had a problem with
it was because of all the things he was claiming that werent true to try and get "street cred"
Vanilla Ice lives in my hometown of Wellington, FL. He is a successful home renovator here and he donates a LOT of his time and money to students in the arts. He is a down to earth guy and he is always happy to tKe a selfie or to stop and chat. He eats breakfast at many local diners, etc. and I see him occasionally at the county building getting building permits. A nice guy.
If you see him let him know that even in the "frozen unkown lands of finland" people still think about him and wish him well 🤙❤
Down the street from you ☺️
This song came out when I was a girl and EVERYBODY loved it. The lyrics were so clever and fun to sing along and the beat was amazing and perfect for dancing. I was shocked to walk into my kitchen a couple of years ago and see my “Way too cool“ teenage son playing this song full blast. He already had a lot of it memorized. It stands the test of time.
This song is loved by generations.
and he's hott.
Yeah, I used to watch his show from time to time. Vanilla Ice is very talented. 🤩
I'm GenX and I found it pretty amazing to watch you guys react to this! I'm also happy to point out how chill everyone was back then, we all got along none of the drama that prevails these days. Man this brought back memories, good days the 80s and 90s!
As always enjoyed the video!
💯
Well said -- go Gen X!
For real. Back in the day you could have a political debate with family and then you'd be sitting around ten minutes later like it never happened.
It's cool to see these young cats reacting favorably to these classics. 👍
I’m 45. This song was big back in 1990. It was on the radio every second ❤
I’m 45 too, this song WAS 1990! Haha, 6th grade, best time ever

Vanilla Ice really brought rap to another level believe it or not
Before Eminem, there was Vanilla Ice
@@Lori-lp6ucBefore Vanilla Ice there was MC Hammer
@@dirtmcgirt7125 After MC Hammer there was John B

That’s just not true…. -_-
Fun fact: he wrote this song at 16 years old! This is also the #1 most sold hip hop song of ALL TIME. Over a half BILLION SOLD world wide. This is over 30 years old too.
Fun fact he stole this beat from Queen and David Bowie, they took it to court and he lost millions after.
People all clowning vanilla but wen this song came every car going by was bumpin it.
Just saw Vanilla in concert and it was insane…
Would love to be able to see him live! and that makes me think about the Roots Picnic at the Hollywood Bowl with a lot of forefathers and Queens of hip hop and such, but it’s sold out! Of course
He may be a one hit Wonder but his album went platinum and this rap song is the first ever rap song to go #1 on Bill Board charts. So arguably the best rap one hit Wonder ever!
Cool as Ice as a song was decent too.
I believe he has some kind of home improvement or construction company now.
He's technically a 2-hit wonder since his version of "Play That Funky Music" got to #4 (on the Billboard Hot 100). But yeah everyone knew this song, including people who probably never listened to any rap before this.
Yeah but Go Ninja Go from TMNT 2 will always hold a special place for me.
This guy opened up black rap to be accessible to white teenagers - especially with their parents. 'He seems like such a nice well groomed boy.' That's important to suburban mom's. They didn't make the connection to thug culture until Tupac etc were popped. But for at least a few years while Vanilla Ice was cool, the genre took root and grew.
Vanilla Ice earned his stripes in the rap world. Vanilla Ice and 2Pac used to open up together for Digital Underground for a couple of years before they made it big on their own.
damn I miss 2 pac. 😢😢
Wow. Digital underground! That takes me back
if you were alive in the early '90s, the rap music from Vanilla Ice or MC Hammer was the most iconic rap dance during that time. They were even better than Tupac or Biggie.
34 yrs+ and this song still hits the clubs and makes the body move! Vanilla Ice has more than this hit. Love this song cuz I'm a 90s kid!
Ice is very successful home fixer upper… he had his own Tv show on home renovations…. The guy is pro jet ski competitor too. Ice is doing really well
He also raced MotorX before his music career
I actually always liked this song. I think about half of the people that say they don’t like it are lying 🤥
@@joshperry3272 Exactly
They are. This was a huge hit. Everyone blasted this in the car when it came out. Black, White, Mexicans etc.
Yep, yep
😅😂 True its that beat 👌❤️
No way. The beat is what grabbed people and it was stolen from Queen. One of the cases that helped make regulations on sampling and musical copyright.
He was a clown who pretended to be down with the hood and got played as a liar on national television.
Lots of people genuinely hated this guy.
Guys, his song took RAP to the world. He was friends with all the big guys, look into his story you will be amazed. That one song still selling millions of copies each year. He also did the Ninja Turtles song. He buys run down homes and sells them for millions. A great story of making your dreams come true! And he still performs for his fans all over the world.
YYYEEESSSSS! He REALLY is a perfect example of the American success story! So proud for him. The man still works hard!
1990 was the year I graduated & when we were at the beach, this was all you heard. People today have no idea how huge this song was. You can't hear it without bobbing your head.

He got bad rap for using "Under Pressure" beat and not paying royalties or whatever, I think they crushed him because of that
Or dancing along!!
Still SLAPS! Best selling rap single of all time! 500 Million +
Awesome song. One of my absolute favorites. He was 16 when he wrote it.
He got into so much trouble with that riff. There was a huge lawsuit because he ripped the hook off from Queen. That being said, I know Rob personally and some of my family are very close personal friends with him. He is an amazing human being. Genuinely nice guy with a heart of gold. This song has stood the test of time and still hits today. Love your reactions boys.
You mean, HE SAMPLED the hook. Huge difference. 🙄
Rob was/is a legend. EVERYONE was playing this back in the day!!!
He was sued by both Queen and David Bowie. When they won, their names were added to the writing credits. Huge hit. For about a year, it was always playing at clubs and parties.
@@coolcpa3321 didn't he also buy the rights to the song?
It wasn't Queen it was actually the Rolling Stones that he ripped off the beat from the song
Yep, you know it's a banger when it holds up pretty well 32 years later.
He was 16 years old when he wrote this track and originally released it independently and made this video himself. And then became the best selling album of all time.
Best selling album of all time? Album? You sure? Album? MJ??
It's sold over 160 million world wide and still selling
Ohhhh the good ole days! Ice ice baby 🧊 Ran across this on my feed & it brought me way back! Grew up listening to this along with Tupac the great, Biggie, NWA & Ice Cube. This was a great time in the world. It was safer, music was on fire & all ppl got along United together. There was respect. I still crank it up for Ice Cube, “Today was a good day” 🎶
Absolutely 💯 %!!
Ice was a rapper, dabbled in Reggae and was in a Grunge band. He raced motocross, raced jet skis and had his own TV show. Helped produce several Nu Metal bands like Korn and Limp Bizkit. He also had some cameos in movies. My favorite was playing himself in Thats My Boy wth Adam Sandler.
I was never much of a fan of his music but I am a fan of someone who turns his life around and is determined to be successful
He also had a movie,he starred in,it flopped tho.He was also in one of the TMNT films. He still eating off of Ice Ice Baby. LOL.
I remember his show! He flipped house's and did awesome at it!
He was on the first Celebrity Big Brother! With Corey Feldman, Ron Jeremy, "mini me"... that crazy televangelist lady with all the makeup and, man, I am drawing a blank on who else.
He had to leave the hip hop world, or lose his life. He chose to leave, rather than sell his rights to the gangsters in the industry back then.
Wait uncle vanny was vanilla ice this whole time lmfao I watch that movie every time I see it on tv
Gotta give credit to John Deacon from Queen whose song “Under Pressure” was sampled for this. That beat really makes the song tbh
You are really trying to throw shade when most rappers sample.
The clip of Vanilla trying to explain how his track and the Queen track are different is comedy gold.
@@suzannedavila1446 stealing and sampling ain't the same thing sweetheart. And most rappers don't have much talent, especially compared to great rock and roll bands so have fun being mad. 💅😉
@@theshadowfax239 Stop it!!! There are different levels of talent with different genres of music. You can not like it which is your right, but gtfoh with that "not much talent" crap. They used to say the thing about Elvis
This isn't sampled... it's stolen. Ice had a bass player play the riff with one xtra note, so he could claim it was different. I think he wound up buying the rights to under pressure from queen so he wouldn't have to pay them royalties
Edit- i shall correct myself after some research... he paid $4M for the publishing rights to Under Pressure because the possible long court case could have cost him more than that and then he would have had to pay royalties on top of it
This song still hits hard. He put his soul into that song.
So great to see you enjoy and appreciate this song !!! I’m almost 68 and still jamming to it!
When this song hit the airwaves, it changed everything! Vanilla Ice stayed on the charts for a really long time and Ice Ice Baby was played almost on loop!😆

I've always liked the song. I know every word and the dance move 😆 🤣. Music back then made you feel like dancing and the beats made every one get in a good mood.
Nah, I didn't like it, wasn't cuz he was white, just wasn't the kind of hip hop or music I was into but ur right, this shit was everywhere, I didn't understand it but whatever, people like what they like...
Hated this song when it came out. Now I've discovered that i still do. I will never understand how this thing got popular
I just loved it when rap told a story. The best rap tells a good story, worth telling. None of this brainless .. shoot everything, on all the drugs, and getting every girl preg. Just gets stupid old. Ok... I'll give gin and juice, and pass the blunt around..but they don't light me up like great 90s rap.
He sampled Under Pressure by Queen featuring David Bowie. A great song. Gotta give him credit for sampling a great beat.
He did to pretend that that beat was his own until he had to force Vanilla to give them credit and some of the royalties of that song.

@@gunner-qf9eh Carrey's skit didn't help but Vanilla Ice's lies, bad company & arrogance were also working against him.
@@gunner-qf9eh oh I don't doubt that he blamed Carrey and took no ownership in his own role.
Or the fickleness of fame. The curse of a huge hit. Or the market at that time not really being sure what to do with hip hop, dance and cross over.
But mostly , I think his arrogance about claiming to write the Under Pressure sample really shut the door on who would work with him more than the Carrey skit. He could have risen above that like everyone who has every had to rise above by doing the work and growing. Maybe showing some humility.
(I am a little loopy on meds and this brings back my time working in clubs in the 90s and my hubs writing for Mad TV & stand ups)

This was such a bop back in the day. Everyone knew it.
I was 19 when this song came out and spent every weekend at the clubs. When that bassline dropped at the beginning, it didn't matter the color of your skin EVERYONE was together on the dancefloor gettin' hyped. It was an amazing time. I consider myself fortunate to have experienced it first hand.

That beat was sampled from a song Freddie Mercury (lead singer of Queen) did with David Bowie called Under Pressure. You guys should review that video/song. Freddie's vocals are PHENOMENAL as you already heard with Bohemian Rhapsody. RIP Freddie 🙏🙏💖💖🙏🙏
I never noticed that but you're right. I love that too!
Yes , Rob did sample the beat/riff from"QUEENS/DAVID BOWIE , UNDER PRESSURE" but what many many people don't know is that queen and David Bowie never recorded or performed the song together... I'm not 100% sure about this part but I think that some radio DJs put them together doing the song as a mix and the great Freddie Mercury passed before they could actually record and perform together. If you watch the video of the singing it at a concert typestyle you will be able to notice that they are not performing together that its place together from different performance. So go ahead and check out the video
Freddie Mercury and David Bowie were two of the greatest vocalists to ever sing a tune.
To sample from their only collaboration not only took the brassiest of brassy balls, but also legitimized and provided early hip-hop the mad respect the genre had well-deserved for over a decade.
Ice Ice Baby was perfect and timeless and all the haters who got something to say otherwise can come at me because I'm old enough to remember the time before rap when a crossover of disco and punk was as ethnic as you could get with a beat and a bassline.
It's never been about the color of your skin, it's always been about the amount of mojo in your blood. ❤
