Best of all, he turned out to be a really GOOD dude. Does a ton for charity and his community. He's a solid dude.
Met him a couple times in palm beach county, at Lowe’s nonetheless, he renovates a lot of houses in the palm beach area, super nice guy and very respectful.
💯
Never know a person so dont judge a person. :) Ice is awesome as a human being and those days were king.
A good dude?
HE LITERALLY STOLE FROM SOMEONE ELSE!
@@Daehawk except we DO KNOW HIM.
HE'S A THIEF!
I never thought Vanilla Ice got the respect he deserved!! He could sing and really could dance!
I agree 💯
No, he got WAY more "respect" than his lying ass deserved.
@@Reno_Slim 🙈 usual sponiy sense go for what you think you got to go by much love always
Yea look up why?! 😂
It's the opposite I think. He got way to much respect and almost forced him everywhere and that makes people eighter hate you or a very rare make you a superstar. Both are horrible because you end up working for a demonic cult in both those outcomes.
He was a way better lyricist than a lot of today's rappers.
No doubt
100% today's rappers are SHIT
These lyrics are crazy bad.
Better than Feminem.
@@fyoutube4226 Definitely not better than Eminem.
He is way more talented than he ever got credit for.
For real
💯
As an old hat, it's hilarious to me that Ice is getting much more respect than he EVER did, back in the day.
Because has has shown himself to be an amazing man
Its been 34 yrs for this iconic song. It was the jam and will always be.
Because he set the stage for white rappers, and Eminem finished it. But back then, people were just pissed about a white rapper and insisted that he had to be a joke.
He was 22 or 23 back in 1990 when this came out. He wrote this when he was 16 yrs old. He was the bomb back in the day! Still love this song!
The entire rap community the hip hop jondra owes this man a thank you and an apology
For what??? He had haters like every other artist, his fault for hooking up with Suge, that killed his career, not the genre or the hip hop community.
@@lisagriffith5000 This song was the commercial breakthrough that opened up the rap scene for the white suburban audience that now supports the entirety of its artists. Black people aren't filling these artists pockets, white kids are ... they are buying the tickets, merch and albums/streams. Unfortunately, they are the ones also killing it by supporting the mainstream garbage that the industry "Rappers" are shoveling now. Independent rappers are the only ones that have anything to say today, and are held under water by the labels putting pressure on the station operators to ban them from commercial airwaves.
@@avstryker Agreed. The other thing is if this sucked it would not have sold over 160 million records back in the day. He was very talented but there were so many who wanted to parody him like Arsenio Hall. Really sad.
*genre not jondra
@@lisagriffith5000 Did he do it willingly though? Suge was always threatening people.
"Play that funky music" "stop that train" "having a 'roni" honestly, his whole first album was pretty damn solid.
Dont forget "Go Ill" and "Its a Party" his Album was actually alot better as many Rappers at the Time. Amazing Scratching, Samples etc
Facts 💯!
🎤 What its like having a Roni🎤
I love the video for "Stop That Train". 😀
I’ve always felt so bad about the way he got done 😂😢 this song is worldwide famous for real.
@Deep Cut Reactions You have any hits I can check out for your lyrical mastery? ;-)
@Deep Cut Reactions Wrong, he bought the rights to the song from them. Vanilla Ice (Robert Van Winkle) owns all the rights to 1981 hit by Queen and David Bowie “Under Pressure”, after buying it from Brian May to avoid a court case.
Then maybe he shouldn't have STOLEN from the band Queen!
@@alricaneshama Wrong, he bought the rights to the song from them. Vanilla Ice (Robert Van Winkle) owns all the rights to 1981 hit by Queen and David Bowie “Under Pressure”, after buying it from Brian May to avoid a court case. Don't you people read before you open your sewer hole.
@@longshot398 He STOLE it first. Then bought the rights to avoid the lawsuit.
Don't make it sound like he did it the right way.
He didn't
HE STOLE!
He will FOREVER be a THIEF in my eyes.
The man that sold it to him should be beaten!
What a freaking INSULT to Freddie and David.
c hild of the 70s here. THis song changed my life.
Every night, i'd practice the dance moves, replaying it on VHS. Then, i went to nerd college before medical school and....
I was the only "nerd" that could dance. Got rushed by 3 fraternities in 2 hours after the first dance. I became crazy popular for a freshman and was the only freshmen they allowed to move into the fraternity. At the nerd school, when this song came on it, it was mainly all girls on the dance floor.....and me. It moved me out of my shy shell and I got my first girlfriend.
TO this day, my fraternity brothers are my closest, most loyal, oldest, friends.
I got to meet him just before the covid lockdown at a small concert here in town. It was a personal thrill and full circle for the uncool middle-aged man i've turned into.
Great story ❤
Thx for sharing that cool story…glad you got to meet him
He just recently was in a rap competition....he killed everyone 😂😂😂
I'm not surprised!
My fiancee at the time worked on his second album. Rob is a nice guy and basically financed the evolution of hip hop. Took a lot of heat from black artist at the time.
Facts
Helped make rap mainstream and brought a ton of white kids into it
Got disrespected by a lot of whites too. "Pop Goes The Weasel" by Third Bass was about Ice, and Eminem disrespected him too, even though he paved the way for Eminem. Queen/David Bowie made an example out of him for sampling their music at a time when everyone was doing it. Just glad he finally getting some respect from everyone.
Blk ppl were straight up asshats to him solely based on color and we never forgot that.
@@dablaqueguyDon't forget the In Living Color skit lol
This came out when I was a kid. It has always been my jam. I'm 43 and I can STILL recite the WHOLE thing. That was Ice's appeal. Same thing with MC Hammer. Loved all around by everybody.
Everybody other than 3rd Bass.
Yeah!!! Back then, it was Vanilla Ice Vs MC Hammer for about a year.
Ahhh. The good ol' 80's. Great decade to be alive!
This came out in 1990…
This song is history! I mean that in a good way. Vanilla exploded world wide and made movies. He was up there in motorcross racing to. Death row records began from Suge Knight taking money from Vanilla ice.
I remember when it came out everybody listen to it. It’s always been one of those songs. It needed to be made.
If anyone that was 10 years or older in the early 90s tells you that they didn't know this song, they are lying. This song played everywhere.
This song was HUGE when it dropped. Everyone was singing it!!!
Yes we were all races.
I still sing it today 😂😂😂
He took some flak over the years, people treated him like he wasn't for real. But he was good, man.
That's okay. The fans remembered him.
He was? He STOLE from the band Queen.
What makes him a good man?
@@alricaneshama Oh be quiet, you silly sausage.
@@alricaneshama he bought the rights for under preasure
@@boneless275 yes he only bought it after he stole it
Vanilla was legit he opened for some major rap acts before this song blew up. He also knew Tupac I think when Tupac was dancing with DU. He was not the interloper like some portrayed him.
Those downing him were just jealous, like Arsenio Hall.
This video still makes me happy, no matter how many times I've heard it. "Play that Funky Music"! Word to your mother.
Loved your reaction to this song :) Funny thing is, I think back then we thought those lyrics were kinda cheesy but when we look back now (considering what's called 'rap' these days) we appreciate how great they were :P
True
Vanilla Ice did have Ninja Rap from the Movie Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Cool as Ice, and Rolling in my 5.0 and three hit movies, but his biggest contribution to Hip-Hop by way of this track actually through the royalitys from Suge Knight which funded and founded Death Row Records, which lead to signing Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg and 2Pac. His hits may not of been as long as others but make no mistake he is a Hip Hop Icon.
BTW he does have recent minor hits including My Way in 2012, and even more recently collaborating with Rick Ross and another track with Kodak Black.
Dope! I didn't know he had recent songs and with Kodak Black. Will check out!
He did "Stop That Train" (great video too) & "Play That Funky Music".
Love me some Rob Van Winkle! Such a nice guy. A Bad A** on the mic or the bike, and a Home reno expert!
His little sister was a lifeguard at a pool a managed in the late 90s. Good guy
I smiled the whole darn time ! so so fun ☺️ great reaction...check out the hook while DJ revolves it ! ICE ICE BABY 😆
“Under pressure”😂😂
yes, but he bought the rights to under pressure and now owns both of the songs! LOL
@@craiglortie8483 He did say he bought the rights, but a Queen spokesman said the statement was "inaccurate." I have a hard time believing both Queen and Bowie would agree to a sale, but who knows...I sure don't!
@@lcbcreative yeah, i get different things when i look it up. several outlets are saying that ice bought the rights after the lawsuit, but if i remember correctly they settled out of court. the one i found said he paid 4 million for it to get out of the settlement that was never disclosed. another said it was bought sometime after by a record label mcm??? or some such.
I think it was partial ownership, not 100%
@@craiglortie8483 but he didn't at the time it was issued as a hit.
He was emnems inspiration. He could dance and spit some serious bars. He still around and looks about 5 years older than in this video.
Man at the time I thought it was rap pop, now I look back and it is a guilty pleasure in my playlist cause his lyrics were actually really good. Thanks for the review, brought back some memories.
everybody today autotune crap
I remember driving with my young son in the car and this would come on the radio and we'd both sing it. Love that beat.
I always did love me some Vanilla Ice. He has a few other hits as well. You should react to them. Great job with the reaction. Always a great time.
It was brilliant and all he needed was the right team behind him.. He would have been the hottest, singing and dancing absolutely tops.
I love seeing the young people discover this fire 🔥 track goes hard to this day 🙌🏼😎
“Other DJs say Damn, if my rhyme was a drug I’d sell it by the Gram” is one of my all time favorite lines in a rap song.
He also had the song play that “funky music white boy” and one or two others through the early mid 90’s but nothing reached the success of this one.
He also has the opening verse on Bloodhound Gangs “Boom” and it is nasty.
The best part of this song is Queen
This song is way better than Under Pressure.
This song was a HUGE hit back in the day.
I loved how much fun we had in the 80's. I think he ticked someone off, everyone was feeling it but then poof! TY for the reaction.
This was it….back in the day…every club bumped this jam….
I can remember when this song dropped and was everywhere. I've always been a hip hop head and everyone took it as Pop no one took the actual lyricism that was in it. Snow is another white 90s rapper they actually put in some work had a good gimmick and was totally underrated for it.
Same here. This is the first time I actually really listened to the lyrics. Its not bad! lol. This was HUGE when it came out.. I was, 7 I think. You could not escape the track. Props to Ice!
He got fame because he was on of the few WHITE "rappers" in the game then. Beastie Boys were way better and you had Snoop and Dre coming on. VI was vanilla and lame. Even for the day. He's a trick. Nothing more or less.
Snow was a gangster, he was actually locked up when his song informer blew up.
People always want clown him, but they were all bumping this back in the day.
Thanks for making me feel old as I am! Love the 80's!
Been a long time since I heard this!! Have a big smile 😊😂
Thank you, I needed this❤
Loved your reaction to our treasured Vanilla Ice, from back in the day.......there were a few surprises when it came to rap/hip hop, back during this time period, so if you haven't checked out, House of Pain(Jump Around), Snow(Informer), Marky Mark(Good Vibrations), and quite a few of the Beastie Boys, I would highly recommend reacting to those 😊
I was a kid when this came out, I can still recite every word! 😂
Vanilla ice was one of the first to sample old records. Queen filed a lawsuit against him but today rappers sample old records all of the time. He was ahead of his time and honestly I don’t think the rap industry knew how to handle Vanilla Ice. Wish he was treated better. He was great!
He didn't "sample it" he stole it and claimed he wrote it until Queen took him to court
It was David bowie song " under pressure" take a listen to it
@@jennettesimons2415Nah. This song is way better than Under Pressure.

I loved the song when it came out on my brothers birthday, August 22, 1990. Was there a version that I don’t know about that came out in the 80s? If so, I want to find it.

@@biohazard_613 😁 but we can still rock. Thank you, wishing you a great day too x
Rob came out strong on this track. We cruised in the cars bumping this up and down the boulevard 💯
I always thought he was saying "turn off the lights and lets go!" My young self thinking he was rapping about being environmentally friendly😂
If Rhyme was a drug I'd sell it by the gram..lol
Great lyrics.... my fav in this song 😂
My favorite line in the song
This was the jam back then and everyone loved it-still do!
Omg what a great tune back in the day. 1990 I was 14 and this was massive when I was at school. Great memories 😊
For those of us that were young when this was new, it's hard to describe the way this blew up. No matter what genre you were into, you knew this song by heart. R&B, Country, Rock, and even an unreconstructed ol' Metal head, like me. The '80s and '90s were truly a hell of a time to be alive and young.
Anyone around 40-45 maybe even up to 50 tells you they wasnt bumping this shit is lying. I was about 13 or so and used to bump the shit out of this. 44 now and the memories come rushing back when I hear it. Anyone else remember when Jim Carrey did a Vanilla Ice parody on In Living Color? God I miss the 90s. Everything was good!
I'm 49 and I think this came out while I was a sophomore and everyone blasted this song!!
First records i ever bought as a 10 year old were this single and "Do the Bartman" (bart simpson did a rap song ;). Was 1990, I remember that day well. This led me to being a Hip Hop head for the last 30+ years. I quickly moved on to Snoop, Pac, BIG, Nas etc.
Well done brother Everything Thumbs up
this song was HUGE!---he got in trouble for stealing that sample without permission... "Under Pressure" by Queen/David Bowie
Thank you Matt for bringing up he sampled Under Pressure. Now, I would never take away from Vanilla Ice. It was amazing in that time. We all sang it every day. Almost no one knew it was a sample from Queen. One of my favorite bands.
Queen never sued him because they didn't care was all david bowie and his egotistical ass
@@dawnray8550 ice got back at queen afterwards, he bought the rights to under pressure. LOL
Ice said that but Queens spokesperson clarified that it was not true.
Don’t get me wrong, I like the song and that famous bassline is what made it catchy. I have no respect for the artist to steal, deny, & lie in public saying he owned it. That is why he tanked.
That trouble wasn't his downfall though. I would say Suge threatened to throw him off the 15th-floor balcony to steal his song rights to this song is the reason he ran away from music for a few decades.
just loved this when it came out. Driving along with the top down this blasting out ... good times!
I was in the 3rd grade when this song was popular. A lot of people liked him back in the day but started hating on him when they got older. I'm glad that the younger generation is giving Vanilla Ice the proper respect.
OH, this brings back MEMORIES! I was at tha clubs when this came out😳!🤷♀️🤦♀️🤣🤣🤣🔥🔥🎶🎶🎶💯😎 Glad you enjoyed it! 😏
I was 12 years old, school trip to Tschechei, first afternoon disco.. And when this song came on the stage we all (tried to) dance to it... It was sooo cool.
Classic....still fun to listen and dance too
Very cool reaction ❤❤❤
I miss when videos were simple and just about the music
I am so glad he mentioned the head. No one ever notices or mentions it.
Give him his flowers he deserve it. Dude had lyrics
I was a teen in the 80's when this song came out. Black Rappers hated him for being a White Guy with the #1 best selling Rap single of all time. He took Rap to a new level of listeners.
Oh the memories... I could take you on a journey with music from this era that would change your whole perspective. These were fun times.
Best days ever!!!!!
I met Vanilla Ice briefly outside of a mosh pit at a Pantera concert. True story.
Its time to get this hit out again...check out his entire album...he is very rich now and has a rehsb homes coming which was televised, very talented.
The was the first #1 rap song on the Billboard Top 100 & became the fastest selling rap album of all time. Yes, he's had other songs that've reached the BT 100 (5 or 6 I think).
Rhythm and poetry is for all of us! Soul too!
I was into heavy metal during my high schools..when this came..iv bought this albums too..everyone has it😂
"The girls are on stand by, waitin' to just say hi.
Did you stop? No, I just drove by."
lol 😂
One of the best concerts I've seen, 1989 MC Hammer, and an unknown opener named Vanilla Ice
Lucky
This was his biggest hit. But he had also a couple other songs that were really good and successfull. (Play that funky music, Rollin in my 5.0, Cool as ice). And if you have time to spare watch his movie from the early 90s ( Cool As Ice)
Man that movie was ultra fuckin corny even by 90's corny standards.
yeah i remember kids saying "drop the zero get with the hero" after that came out. i didnt know what they meant for a while because i was listening to NWA.
Great vid...man, the early 90's had EVERYTHING!
Im 51 years old and can still recite every word!! LOL My kids think im crazy! Love it!!
Hey! Ice Ice Baby! Great tune! 🎵
The entire album was great! HUGE! 👍
I’m 50 now that song came out in 89-90 I was in 10th grade. That song never gets old
This is one of my favorite songs. ❤
"Word to your Mother" was a compliment/term of Respect! My Gen Z 2nd cousin thought it was a dis! I told him what's up!!
My favorite of his was It's a Party. Even the opening line of that song.. "Sparkling, like a tower inferno, you wanna learn my song this ain't no journal." (The Towering Inferno was a 70's film about a skyscraper on fire) Then in Play That Funky Music he rhymes supercalifragilisticexpialidocious LOL. People like to pretend they never listened to him back then, but they damn well know they did. Everyone during that time did. This album was the first one I had seen someone bought on CD at school.
Yep. That's all Miami too, he's ours forever. Love from the 305!
Yeah it has that effect ..... everyone smiles listening to Ice Ice Baby.. 😅😅😅
I can’t watch this without seeing the Jim Carrey version from In Living Color in my mind. LOL!!!
This is just his most known hit. He actually has quite a few songs that have charted. My favorite will always be Ninja Rap. Probably because I'm a Ninja Turtles fan and that song brings back all the nostalgia of watch the old Ninja Turtles movies when I was a kid.
He is still making Rap songs plus his a General Contractor in Miami. Dude is Awesome
I lived in S. Florida in that Era, everybody wants T- Top wheels including me😊.

When Vanilla Mud, sampled Queen’s baseline intro.said it was his own, never gave Queen any credit. Queen had to take Vanilla mud to court. (Queen Under Pressure 1981)
Robert Van Winkle, better known by his stage name Vanilla Ice, wrote "Ice Ice Baby" in 1983 at the age of 16, basing its lyrics upon his experiences in South Florida. The lyrics describe a shooting and Van Winkle's rhyming skills.
He has BARS!!!
This was the jam when I was a kid. It wasnt till I was older that i realized he sampled Under Pressure-Queen.
You know he hit different when Em said in a diss track that he would rather come back as vanilla ice’s son 😂…this song is clowning but it surely made an impact over the years
He was 16 when he wrote and released this song. And it became global hit. Most of the teens in their 16 are happy to live with their parents and that's all.
Ice also did a nu Metal album with Ross Robinson. Name of the Album was Hard to Swallow.
Marty Ray Project - Vanilla Ice is an awesome chapter 2. So soulful.
Vanilla Ice was the very first CD I bought back when CDs first came out 😂😂
