  • The MOZA Racing R9 is a 9nm Direct-Drive wheelbase that retails for only $440. At this price point, it's competing directly against the Fanatec CSL DD. That being said... what's the catch? Let's find out.

I just purchased this wheelbase with the GS wheel and it is about $300 Canadian dollars more than the Thrustmaster wheel im replacing. I have the Thrustmaster TS XW racer with the sparco 310 wheel rim. The difference between these two wheel bases and wheel rims is night and day. $300 dollars more seems more than fair to me for how much of an improvement this actually is.

I actually ordered it and am waiting. I actually have the CSL DD and am I very excited. I also have the Mclaren wheel with upgrades. When you factor in metal QR and magnetic paddles the prices are closer. Additionally, I don't see $499 wheel as high end. It is more mid range with great features. Which is why I bit the bullet and took the plunge. I wanted a cube controls or ascher wheel but those to me are high end and much more expensive. I would have gladly spent $500 on a fanatec wheel like this since I only use 1 for Formula and GT Racing.

if theres anything ive learnt over the last couple of years of sim racing its that fanatec's SDK is where the real value is at, ive bounced between fanatec gear with the clubsport 2.5, DD1 and went over to simucube with the 2 pro and then sold that and gone back to fanatec with the dd pro now and something that always makes me happy is how fanatec just works thanks to its SDK integration, i thought the hardware of the simucube 2 pro was amazing, smoother than fanatec, more options for dialling the hardware in precisely etc but there were times it was simply not right, euro truck sim 2 for example was simply one of the worst experiences ive had with a wheel, no wheel spring return to centre for some reason i could never figure out making the game almost unplayable.
it was something like this that was a reminder how strong fanatec's integration into games is, it really does just work even if in my opinion its not the best hardware and i say that as a current dd pro owner, but i was always going to feel that way coming from a simucube 2 pro. so this is something ill always be weary of for newcomers to this space, sometimes you just cant step into it and have it go as smooth as you like, the competition is more fierce in other areas than just the hardware spec.

The ES wheel seems like a good budget "Do-it-all" wheel with the 12inch and formula mod you can buy to it. I myself ordered a AliExpress 13inch wheel and adapter at first. Saving up for a Moza Racing wheel later.

the R9 with gs rim is $1000 vs moza r16 with the gs rim is $1300 vs alpha with gt4 rim with clutch paddles equal to the gs rim $1600 vs DD1 base only $1200 to me the extra $300 to get the r16 is the way to go. I own fanatec for years. Have V3 inverted pedals, shifter, handbrake and couple of rims. To me this moza r9 looks better made than Fanatec DD. From materials, software and internals if I look at barry's video. Alpha mini also looks great, but in my opinion is lacking great steering wheel with good set of buttons and dials like this GS wheel. I have had moza camera gear and it did feel great quality. I hope their budget steering wheels will mot be too plasticky like fanatec. Have been disappointed with lack of progress of famatec. The dd wheels could have been so much greater. Build quality and construction and software is lacking in my opinion. Even to come up with proper quick release has been a failure. I'm worried since fanatec has grown so much it has translate to lower quality products I was used too with all my clubsport stuff.

So i just bought this wheel base with the GS wheel and i live in canada. Im replacing my thrustmaster ts xw sparco 310 wheel, which i paid $999.00 canadian dollars for. I looked at the fanatec csl dd with the booster kit and the mclaren gt3 wheel and it totalled $1150 after shipping, i Payed $1400 for the moza setup after shipping after doing my research. The GS wheel offers many more features than the mclaren wheel and the wheel base is more powerful and just as smooth as the fanatec. I feel that your comments on the eco sustem cost are not quite accurate. To get the same wheel in a fanatec to match the gs wheel your looking at over $350 canadian and it is a smaller diameter wheel. I understand that if you already have fanatec gear then its going to be more cost effective but if your switching from logitech or thrustmaster then i feel like the pricing is in line with fanatec gear. Great review. Keep up the good work👍

Great video ! The "vibrations" you felt were from the game and it's not specific to the R9. There's a setting in AC that creates that canned effect. I don't really see the price of their wheel rim as a big downside. Contrary to Fanatec's offerings you can put on any wheel you want. So let's go for an assembled GT3-style wheel from Kapral for 225€ and a wheelspacer for 30€ so it's easier to mount and boom, competitive pricing. Heck if you don't mind DIY'ing something you can get away even cheaper. The best part is if you decide to upgrade your wheelbase to a Simucube or VRS you can just take the rim with you which you can't with Fanatec's stuff.

I'm fairly certain it shouldn't spin like a death cyclone if driver loses grip. I think you are missing a checkbox or have a misconfigurstion sonewhere. The software should sense the loss of resistance almost instantly. My guess is that your sampling rate / resolution setting isn't acquiring wheel position/ load level frequently enough or safety options aren't enabled perhaps?
Is there a separate software suite for the motor configuration (like software made by/for MOZA to configure the motor/wheel, and not the settings in your sim-race software/game/Forza/GT7, etc so much.... I'd expect those to be fairly generic and not detailed enough.
Do you think the 9 is a much better motor than their 5 DD drive motor? If you can feel loose gravel, curb hits, loss of traction. Hydroplaning effects with the 5 that'd make me happen. I don't need wrist snapping torque, just want to be sure there's enough to feel "real" (ish)

In any of those case it might be janky/less precise.

I hope that this is not the wrong place to add this, in case it's not feel free to delete it.
I'm not going to give all details about the current situation but I'm force to bring American Express to a legal claim agains this company for totally ignoring several issues with their R9 and the FSR Formula Wheel that I bought a few weeks ago. The main message here is that if you get into troubles with their products you could receive the same unacceptable support I'm receiving which it is currently been totally ignored.
The base and wheel are failing since day one. I have been supplying videos and telling them about the shifting issues and the noise coming from the base and they are basically not acting as you will expect (last news received 7 days ago).
There are multiple issues with the base and the wheel.... tried all kind of things to make them work but they are somehow damage or something went wrong on the assembling process.
This is just a message to let you guys know that you could be facing the same level of support.
In case of anyone wanting to know more let me know. I can show you the videos that are showing some of the issues I'm dealing with.

Basicly 440$ is just not gonna happen trust me ur gonna spend atleast 700$ thats if u order from local store ( thats gonna takes months just for THEM to get it, then add anothers week or 2 for shipping to you ) the reason its not 440% is becuse first the local dealer u buy it from has to order it and trust me they are not gonna pay for the EXTREMELY overpriced delivery from moza and then u also gonna have to pay for the shipping from the local dealer ur basicly gonna spend over 1000$ just for the wheelbase and the mouting plate ( for the price of just the wheelbase and shipping its insane that its not included with the wheelbase ) u can imagine paying 200-300$ xtra from the price they say it is and then when it finaly comes after almost half a year of waiting after order u cannot even fucking mounth the damn thing.... and ik its like this with fanatec to but thats an excuse not a reason. Its so hard to get into sim racing not becuse its hard physically but becuse of shipping, availability and price.... so annoying i think ima just cancel the order i have on my r9 wheelbase cuse they cant even estimate for me how long it will take for THEM to get it... weeks? Months? Years? Prolly months... and thats enough to cancel it and just forget about sim racing and that sucks cuse i used to race irl but after an injury sim racing would be the best alternative but obviously its only possible if u are super rich and want to wait for months not knowing if u gonna wait another month or not... so fucking annoying shipping should be free if it takes months to get the fucking thing tell me where they make it and i will rather just take a train ride and pick it up myself for fuck sake

I got my Moza R9 base in 1 week from a US online storefront, us sim-motion. Paid Msrp too. Shipping was $66 and not hundreds like people say.
