    I have one thing I want to add to this review, I ordered the R9 and the GS wheel 2 days ago. I had some issues with completing the payment (which was an issue on my part, Moza had nothing to do with this) and because of this I had to shoot them email. They responded to both the emails I send over the last 2 days, within 12 hours. I have only heard positives things about Moza's customer support, cant say the same thing for Fanatec.

      Of course they are quick with responses, it is a small company. Fanatec has had over 12,000 orders in a 17 day span from when I bought my CSL DD and went back 17 days later for another order. Fanatec probably gets close to a thousand emails a week for support and basic questions, etc.

I just received my R9 and GS wheel this week. I emailed them to ask when my order would be shipped because the seven days of processing time they claimed on their website had passed by a day or two. They responded very quickly and my order was shipped and actually arrived earlier than expected. I’ve owned many pieces of Fanatec gear and they have a history of slow response time to emails. The thing I hate the most about Fanatec is that they don't sell through retailers while their own shopping experience and customer support are so shitty. Everything takes forever to ship and they ship via FedEx in the US. If something went wrong, it takes at least a week before anyone replies and asks for something I've already written in the support ticket, and then wait another week…
    But Fanatec is the only one that offers PS5-compatible direct-drive bases, so I had to cope with them… MOZA products look fantastic, but I literally can't choose them for the same reason.

  • @trippulggaming26
    @trippulggaming26 Před 2 lety +57

    A big thing to consider which isn't mentioned in this video is the quality of customer service you can expect from each company. I haven't heard much about Moza, but Fanatec's customer service since the release of the CSL DD / GT DD Pro has been downright awful. 2-3 weeks (or longer) response time for support tickets is unacceptable when paying this amount of money for a product.
    Fanatec built these products to a price point that was previously unheard of, and they knew they'd need to cut corners to do so. Build quality and reliability took a hit as a result. Fanatec failed to adequately bolster their customer service department to handle what they undoubtedly should have known would be a sizeable increase in support requests, and now they are paying the price with unhappy customers and poor word-of-mouth.
    Sure, Fanatec equipment is great...when it works. But when it doesn't, and you need help...ask yourself before buying if you really want to take the chance that if you (God forbid) need an RMA, you'll potentially be looking at 2-3 months before getting a working piece of equipment back in your hands.

Once I realized that I could mix and match gear I wanted, I cancelled my preorder and went with the VRS DFP. Since I knew I mainly wanted to play rally and simcade type stuff, I didn't feel the need for a wheel with a button plate attached, so I was able to save a ton of money that way. Dont think it was mentioned but you can change your fanatec wheel setting though the steering wheel... the pedal prices were not taken into consideration. Although its a non issue for pc as you can use basically anything available. Fanatec does have the entry level pedals like the csl load cedal pedals for 200 and moza currently only has the crp pedal for 499. Which was something i took into consideration when i purchased my csl DD. Was about 1000 out the door with the wheel base, csl load cell brake pedal kit, csl universal hub, and mclaren gt3 wheel . Yeah, I thought it was a bit silly that he contended at the end that Moza was a better value, but did said very little to support it truly being better except one extra Nm of tqe 🙄. Fanatec is more detailed, costs less unless if you're pairing it with a wheel that doesn't really fit the same budget, and offers console support, not to mention a stronger ecosystem overall.
      Moza is a strong contender, and may well be a better value one day when their options expand, but as it stands right now, you would have to be a pc only user, not care as much about detail, get pedals from elsewhere, and already have it budgeted to pair a $500 wheel with a $400 wheelbase.

      @fups1 Před 4 měsíci

      Obviously none of the cars you drove were a Superkart or a 90s Indycar because then you'd understand those things produce 30NM+ of wheel torque so your comment is irrelevant. And even in my real car, when I hit a pothole or the kerb on a racetrack I can feel the sudden jolt in the wheel and the spike of the "force feedback" in it. The point of the higher nm wheel is to have a greater dynamic range and to help you fill in the gaps of the feeling which are missing from real life (like suspension travel)

    • @fups1
      @fups1 Před 4 měsíci

      "Digging into the data, an IndyCar team provided Road & Track with a graphical depiction of the phenomenon. Using a torque sensor installed in the steering column, teams use the information to quantify the twisting forces being applied by their drivers. Here, at St. Petersburg, the section where the greatest turning effort is required comes in Turn 3 wherein rotating the Indy car through the quick corner onto the long back straight requires a peak of 32.1 lb-ft of torque from the driver.
      On its own, 32.1 lb-ft might not look like an imposing number. The average torque rating for a lug nut on a passenger car wheel is nearly triple that figure, but with a socket installed on the nut and a long lever to apply the weight of your body to torquing the nut, the force required becomes manageable."
      32.1 lb ft converts to 43.5 nm. And that's the modern Indycar which is actually less powerful and more controllable than the older ones. There isn't a single wheelbase on the planet that can replicate those forces yet. So stop spreading your bullshit misinformation.

    I really like what Moza is doing. You may pay a bit more, but it seems you are getting a proportional step up in performance and quality over Fanatec. The McLaren GT3 rim is a good rim, for sure, but it's still a hunk of plastic. The Moza rim is something you could find in a real race car, and has much more functionality. 1 Nm might not seem like a lot, but it's 12.5% more available torque than the Fanatec. That's significant. It means you can set up your FFB so that you can feel the finer sensations more clearly without clipping the big stuff. The lower profile of the Moza base is also a plus if you want to get your monitor as low and close as possible. Just keep in mind that cheaper doesn't mean better value. I can tell you from experience that it really sucks to miss races and watch your rig collect dust because you had to send your rim back to repair a broken pin.

    • @lindigj
      @lindigj Před rokem

      This is sort of a personal preference thing though. I prefer having multiple wheels for different disciplines and not have to pay $500+ for each. Not to mention for me a huge part of the "value" of fanatec is console support so I can play with my buddies who don't have PC.
      I actually consider the mclaren's light weight to be a major plus since it takes less tqe to drive it, which at least in that setup narrows the gap between the 1 Nm difference.
      I think Moza caters to a very specific crowd and can be the definitive choice for some, but Fanatec caters to a wider audience.

    Console games are more arcade and less simulation, so I don't care about PS5 compatibility. All the software I care about, especially AMS2, runs on PC.

    Its a little unfair to write moza off for the ff feeling being better because fanatec have better r&d
    simply put its software and not hardware - the stock settings for the R9 are awful and will need to be customised further. With that you will feel just as much detail going over curbs and catching slides etc - Moza will be updating the firmware in the future i am sure. ps not a moza owner
    the quick release on moza wheels is far better and included as standard for the fanatec you will be spending a further $120 for the quick release so it comes in around the same almost and the wheel from moza has a better quality set of encoders and buttons
