      That non console compatibly is a problem!! At least in my opinion Console was a big miss!! It’s an Infrastructure that Fanatec is basically Alone in!! At least in Mid2high range DD wheels!! PC just has So Many Options!! Why 9NM stuck only PC player base… which is Huge no doubt… But still think PS and XB compatibility would have had consequences for Fanatec !! Would help consumers getting the price down with Competitive Hardware!!!

    As someone who lives in Asia its quite hard to get my hands on a Fanatec without ludicrous shipping and tax prices. Brands like Moza, Simagic, VNM, Simforge, Frex are probably the only accessible options for most in this region. You're doing us a justice by giving less popular brands a very thorough review Thanks Will!

    A quick note on their customer service, they have been exceptional to work with. I actually had the R9 but it wasn't quite as powerful as I wanted (coming from an Accuforce wheel) so I asked them if I could upgrade to the R16 and they have bent over backwards to help me even though it's something that they (or any company) wouldn't normally do. They have been very quick to respond and very polite and professional. Could not be happier with my choice with Moza. Oh and the wheel is amazing.

    Just a piece of advise for anyone thinking about buying anything from Moza Racing.
    I hope that this is not the wrong place to add this, in case it's not feel free to delete it.
    I'm not going to give all details about the current situation but I'm force to bring American Express to a legal claim agains this company for totally ignoring several issues with their R9 and the FSR Formula Wheel that I bought a few weeks ago. The main message here is that if you get into troubles with their products you could receive the same unacceptable support I'm receiving which it is currently been totally ignored.
    The base and wheel are failing since day one. I have been supplying videos and telling them about the shifting issues and the noise coming from the base and they are basically not acting as you will expect (last news received 7 days ago).
    There are multiple issues with the base and the wheel.... tried all kind of things to make them work but they are somehow damage or something went wrong on the assembling process.
    This is just a message to let you guys know that you could be facing the same level of support.
    In case of anyone wanting to know more let me know. I can show you the videos that are showing some of the issues I'm dealing with.

    I have the moza r16 for a month and I absolutely positively love this wheel. The only thing is it take time to get the sliders right for the game but that is with all dd wheels. I have an older gt Omega rig and was only able to use 2 of the 4 holes to mount it since the plate did not have holes and didn't want to drill the plate. It super solid on my rig with just 2 bolts no flex at all. If you don't wear gloves on the alcaterra the point where you keep you hand will start to wrinkle. I'm sure over time it will wear Down. If appearance bothers you then you will need to wear gloves to not wear the alcaterra down or get the leather wheel. It don't bother me since this wheel is better then I expected. I upgraded from a broken t300 that I only had for 3 years, that turned me away from thrustmaster. The difference is night and day, you can feel suspension compression in the wheel it's that sensitive and accurate, I never felt that in my thrustmaster. In all best wheel ever. I had a Logitech g25 tm t300 and now this.

    22:45 This is something that happened with the CSL DD that I have. One day when I was using it, I noticed the wheel disconnecting whenever I was braking, and I realized this was because I, like many people, pull on the wheel a little when I'm braking, and the shaft had worked itself loose just enough that a little tug on the wheel would disconnect it. It was easy enough to push it back in and tighten that collar up, but it is kind of annoying to have to worry about that.

    Thanks for a very detailed review. Your depth of knowledge is impressive. It’s kind of amazing these products don’t cost more given they’re fairly niche low volume products and the market is fragmented between several DD manufacturers. I think anyone being critical of this class of products doesn’t have the perspective of a manufacture doing all the R&D, paying lots of upfront costs for tooling etc, and hoping they can sell enough to eventually turn a profit. You can’t 3D print this stuff. You do the right thing by comparing Moza with their closest competitors.

    Thank you for your in depth review. I had been wanting a CSL DD for a while. When I finally had the funds to get one, they were sold out. I never heard of Moza until your review. The biggest selling point for me was the FFB was on par with the CSL DD, it looks better, has a better QR mechanism and I think the GS wheel looks better than the Fanatec F1 and GT rims. I went ahead and ordered the white R9 (maybe should have went with black, but I always like something that stands out), the GS rim and the CRP pedals. Hopefully they have some more RS wheels in stock soon. I look forward to their future offerings.

    The clunk in fanatic wheels is the connection having some play. I haven't used their QR wheels yet, but the clunk can be completely eliminated on the screw lock style wheels by tightening the locking ring slightly past the initial stopping point (the fingers on the inside will slip under the ring enritely and allow you to tighten further) or at least, that's been my experience.

    Thank you very much, a very complete review, I would say the best to date... The alpha mini review is missing and compare the 3 DDs that fight for the crown, I suppose the Simagic will win... You could also try a USB steering wheel ,since Moza and Simagic sell their QRs for that purpose. In Spain we already have 2 stores and speaking live on Twitch, the manager of the Barcelona store (search for Simufy) said that they will give full support to the customer, and if something goes wrong in 24 hours they send you the new product and collect the defective, without cost to the customer, something that only Amazon Spain does, I consider the best after-sales service on the planet. That makes me rethink whether to buy Moza r9 or Alpha mini, quite a dilemma.

    As a side note that people probably don't realize is that you can use any, literally any, third party real racing wheel with standard mounting holes as long as you buy a NRG quick release for it (about 90 dollars). So I bought a deep dish drift wheel for 45 dollars plus the quick release and I have a brand new drift wheel for 135 dollars! This actually gives it more variety in wheels than Fanatec which doesn't have that option. Obviously you won't have any buttons but for drifting, rally racing etc, you can't really use buttons effectively anyway while you're driving. This was the reason that put me over the edge for buying the Moza and I love it.

    The fanatec clunking is play between the notch of the QR and the groove in the shaft of the wheelbase. It only affect some people, likely due to just QA tolerances not being strict enough. Putting a small strip of tape in the groove to fill in the extra space completely fixes the issue, although to be honest it's pretty silly that that's the only solution.

  • @nejcmirtic529
    @nejcmirtic529 Před 2 lety +1

    The Fanatec QR1 clunking comes from the manufacturing tolerances in the base and wheel side parts. From my experience, it comes from the "rectangular" notch at the top of the QR. And it goes away when you screw in the locating/retaining screw. It tightens the QR to one side, so it reduces the amount of play in it. And at least in my experience with the Universal HUB and CSW 2.5, when I am driving w/o the screw there is enough play that it can be felt when the wheel is loaded in the corner and you suddenly lose grip and the wheel snaps in the other direction. It feels like for a split second there is no FFB, to use Will's words, almost like the wheel is slipping, but only for like a fraction of a degree and then the hit/tactile clunk after it hits the QR on the other side. But the experience may vary with different bases and wheels, it is quite possible, that I have an abnormally loose base and wheel side combination (I have already replaced the O-ring, to help mitigate that problem a bit). But the screw is the only thing that helps in my case.

    The fanatec clunk can be fixed. By putting a small square of plastic bag in between the QR and wheel base. At the top as is slides on. Shouldn't have to but it does work. Thickness of plastic bag depends on how much play you have. And like the video. Good job 👍

    $80 1 year additional warranty added to CSL DD to match Moza standard 2 year warranty, does not include shipping which is free with Pagnian.
    Moza R9 with CS Wheel - $1148, CSL DD 8nm with 2 year warranty + CSL BMW wheel $1180, $1350 with metal QR1
    Moza R9 with GS wheel - $1498, CSL DD 8nm with 2 year warranty + CSL Elite McLaren GT3 V2 wheel $1280, $1450 with metal QR1.

I'm very excited about the MOZA line, and after looking at their Chinese site, I'm looking forward to reviews of their mid range wheel (at about $250 USD) and pedals (at about $200 USD). You can use any wheel with a NRG quick release. I have a drift deep dish wheel that i bought an NRG quick release for and it works great! So basically you can use any aftermarket wheel with standard mounting holes, you just wouldn't have the buttons of course. This actually gives it more wheel options than Fanatec since most any wheel can be attached.

But quality, design, product wise Moza and also Simmagic have stepped up the game. First I got logitech long time ago, then trustmaster, then Fanatec. Each step the previous wheel felt like a toy. But now I can say same with Moza, my fanatec steering wheels and base feel like a toy compared to Moza. My clubsport inverted v3 and shifter are still great though and dont fall into toy category. Buttons are much better than Fanatec. Nice keyboard click vs cheap hollow click buttons.

    You pay for what you get with these. You pay slightly more in total for the Moza, and you get slightly better FFB. The CSL DD is slightly cheaper. And you get slightly less after buying everything and get slightly less NM.
    But both are fantastic wheels. I personally went CSL because the Moza wasn’t much better and when I want more I’ll probably get way better than just slightly better later.

    I have a number of Fanatec products, including the DD1. That was faulty and replaced 6 months after purchase (That took 6 weeks). I have a McLaren GT3 wheel V1, that was repaired a few months after purchase, due to faulty shifters. Fanatec don't have replacement parts for many of their products and in a money making ploy, just want you to return them via RMA and charge a massive hour labor cost, plus parts! So now you have after market suppliers who fill this gap and in fact, do a better job on the quality side. So, my personal opinion as an owner of many Fanatec products is, DON'T. They are unreliable, customer service is very slooooooow, weeks in fact before responding. So only time will tell with Moza, as the important thing will be back up - customer service, spare parts etc.
    It may in fact be worth waiting to see what DD wheel base Thrustmaster release this year, as their quality is superior to Fanatec for a start. Trust me, I've also has a number of Thrustmaster wheels and bases over the past 15 years and they shit all over Fanatec as far as reliability.
    I should also add, if you know anything about the Fanatec DD wheels, take a look at their forum site, they are still trying to fix this wheel base as it still has so many faults and glitches in the software and hardware.

    I just think the csl beats it by a mile. Here in the US at least if you had all the shipping taxes and all the extras you have to either buy or pay to have a complete working setup your paying hundreds of dollars more than the csl dd. The fanatec software seems much easier to use to but then again that could just be that it's because that's what I'm used to looking at but everything just seems easier. And I'm sure you can't actually tell much of a difference between the feel co considering they are almost exactly the same. So in short just buy whatever is cheapest based on where you live and for me that's the csl dd.

      See if it helps if some still left add one more piece of tape.

    • @storageroomracer
      @storageroomracer Před 2 lety +2

      Just on the strength of 8nm. David Perel is a South African race driver who drives for Rinaldi motorsport and has his own CZcams channel, where he actually says outside of an actual crash they don't get more than 8nm feedback from the car due to power steering. Now he's also an ambassador for Thrustmaster and he actually says he'll not buy a dd wheel as his top of the line Thrustmaster belt driven wheel has more than enough feel and strength for him, but again it's subjective. I'm going to go dd for the immersion but coming from a logitech G920 I see no point in spending 2 or 3 thousand dollars on a 20 plus nm wheel base when an csl dd or r9 will provide the level of immersion and realism that I'm looking for.
